Book 3 of The Threshold Adesina, the young queen of the L’avan people, traveled across the world to rescue her husband from the hands of her enemies. After countless hardships, she finds herself trapped on the other side of a Threshold, in a realm far from her world. Now she must find her way home again and stop the power-hungry demon Cha-sak from fulfilling his plans of dominion and bloodshed.
Callie comes from a family of writers, and has loved telling stories from an early age. She dabbled a bit in poetry and other short works until she discovered her passion for novels. She is a wife and a mother, and currently lives in Utah with her family.
An extremely satisfying conclusion to a great trilogy. Callie Kanno couldn’t have wrapped things up better. The Labyrinth of Destiny paints a realistic picture of war, showing the readers how long and drawn out battles can be. And how wearisome. Told through multiple points of view, we’re taken through all sides of the story. The leaders, the foot soldiers, the enemy, the immortals, the allies. However, the majority of the book is told through Adesina’s point of view and I have to say that she is one of my favourite YA fantasy characters. I put her up there with Alanna and Daine from Tamora Pierce’s books. She is driven, passionate and still able to remain level headed. There is a huge amount of responsibility placed on her shoulders, as the queen of the L'avan and also as the Threshold Child, but she never lets it overwhelm her. Sure she has moments of fear and doubt, but that only makes her more relatable. Her relationship with L'iam remains as steady, strong and healthy as ever. Both worry about the other but never let it interfere with their duties to their people. One of my favourite fiction couples:)
Loved the addition of Ruon and the reappearance of characters I thought we’d never see again.
I’m sad the series is over, but so happy with how it ended. Nice work Callie Kanno!
I honestly, thoroughly enjoyed this series. It was a brilliantly created world, with rich characters and a very strong and deep plot. Even with all the war in this last book, it wasn't dull. I liked that it branched off and gave the reader the perspective and actions of side characters that we've come to know, so we can better understand the full extent of actions and hardship everyone in this book had to face before the book finally ended. There was nothing that was seemingly 'easy' in their efforts, no safety of loss. There was lots of loss, lots of walls that the main characters faced and had to readjust their efforts in different directions in order to succeed. The epilogue was beautiful and a perfect 'ending'- although there's plenty of room for growth if the author decided to continue the story.
This was a fitting end to a great series! I only wish the epilogue had been a bit more informative. Like did they successfully rebuild the nation in unity? Did they accept Hestia in her new role unquestioningly? Did the immortals adjust properly? Did E'nes' third child have a dava?! These are important questions that need answers! Loved the book/trilogy though!
Ms. Kanno's has honed her writing skills to superb. This final book to this trilogy was excellent. I found myself thoroughly enmeshed in the plot, the great characters, and I loved the ending. Once again I cannot believe the talent in the writing skills and the imagination of authors who can connect their minds, hearts, emotions and put it all down on paper. BRAVO!
Great Series!!!! I only wish the epilogue included more details in what happens to all the charecters that have come and gone throughout the series. Like the family she lived with in High City and others. Perhaps we will get more stories from this world later on.
This story is very well written. Few typos which are a big problem on kindle books. The story follows the growth and discovery of a child of protect from her harsh beginnings to her acceptance of her powerful role in a fight between good and evil. The characters are well defined, and the story opens up like a flower. The pacing is near perfect. This is my favourite sort of fiction and I am always pleased to find such a gem. I believe many readers will empathize with the hardship and courage of the vast cast of characters.
I just finished book three of this series. The series is well written with characters that become real. This fantasy is full of action as decisions must be made to help the people. It is a love story that makes you wonder what could happen next. Read the series. I think it will be worth your time.
This book is better than the second one. The story is tighter and there is less rambling. There continues to be a few grammatical errors but they are minor and not off-putting.
The story is a good one, the characterisation continues to be a strength of this author's work and the plot is good without ridiculous plot holes.
This series kept me intrigued throughout. I enjoyed the subtle blending from chapter to chapter and book to book. The only thing I found distracting was the fact that I did come across words that were apparently typos. I only mention this as a reader of each word, at a quick pace and dislike having to backtrack and clarify. It did not affect the storyline, simply the fluidity of reading through. Still I truly enjoyed the story and highly recommend it to others.
Couldn't put the book down. Full of suspense and action as the forces of light battled the forces of darkness. Nicely down and excellent ending to at great series.
A decent ending to the series. I thought the climax was a bit heavy handed. As with the previous book, the battle action just went on and on, and I found myself skimming large chunks.
I did like the series, but as it went on, it became one of those that I felt was too much like work.
This was a really good trilogy. My only complaint is that it ended. Stories from earlier and later in the timeline would be awesome. Stories of the immortals, the northern tribes, even the ancients.
