Souls of the Knight #3

The Making of Matt

Rate this book
Matt Carter, self-proclaimed sex-god and drummer for world renowned Souls of the Knight, didn’t have the time or inclination for planning his future, preferring to fill his days with music, women and alcohol. He didn’t want or need anything else in his life.

Until the band parted ways and he found himself no longer living the dream.

Bored and lonely, with too much time and money on his hands, Matt turns to his best friend, Alex Clark, to help devise a new direction to take his life in. Together, they embrace their newfound venture, as owner and manager of one of L.A.’s hottest gay clubs – Kaleidoscope. For the first time, Matt has a plan. He knows where life is heading.

Until a devastating phone call turns his whole world upside down, sending him straight into the comforting arms of his best friend and leading him to doubt everything he’s ever known or believed about himself.

Alex had always been content with his unrequited feelings for his rockstar friend, but as Matt starts to question if he might actually feel the same, he runs as fast as his feet will allow.

Has Matt gone too far? Has his reputation as an irresponsible womanizer who refuses to take life seriously, finally managed to push his best friend away for good?

Or is Alex hiding secrets of his own?

Dear Matt,

First of all, let me just get this off my chest. You are the most infuriating/immature twat/adorable asshole that I’ve ever met. Half the things that came out of your mouth are crap. Damn if I don’t love you for it.

When I started on your story, I’m not a fan of your charming personalities. As I am new to your world and I never meet Sawyer or Ryder before, maybe I’m judging you too harshly without getting to know you. But anyway, you are basically a prepubescent boy in a man’s body. You are nearing 30 and you still need your mum to pick up after your shit. Shame on you. Or maybe Mrs. Carter is to blame for all your immaturity.

Before you throw your tantrum and accuse me of not appreciating your sense of humor, I have to say you did grow on me, like a mold. I’m itching just thinking about it.

Moving on to your sex life. Oppss… sorry, I mean your love life. Omg! I can’t believe you make the first move to Alex, who is basically your best buddy. I usually thought the straight guy won’t be the one to make the first move, guess I’m wrong and kudos to you. I’m sure gayitis is contagious!

Although all your experiments failed big time, I had a good laugh at your expense. I’m a chick and I do get off on watching gay porn. What does that say about me? By the way, I can recommend you some good m/m read that is way more tasteful than the super cheesy one that you got.

Back to the love of your life Alex, the huge freaking bomb that was dropped by him – woah! Honestly, I was stunned for a minute there because there are a few possibilities that came across my mind but never THAT. So I forgive you for freaking the fuck out. Although it was a huge gigantic deal for you guys, I’m glad you both work the shit out and able to deal with it like adults. I had some tears in my eyes while reading about it.

And Matt, I feel as if throughout this book I see you actually might just grow up and be a man. A man capable of love, commitment and responsibility. Although you can’t cook for shit, is the thought that count right? I will eat your P&J anytime. Oh, and please remove the pasta stain from the ceiling. I think I pee my pant hearing the about your attempt at cooking pasta. TMI? Oh, I think you love my blunt honesty since I endured hearing you complaint about your putrid armpits.

Anyway, I’m so proud of you until….. you whip out a tape and measure your own cock. Seriously! I guess, tiger can’t change its stripes and Matt can’t not be a twat.

That’s all for now, Matt. Thanks for making my ‘heart smile’ throughout your story. I wish you happy years ahead with Alex filled with amazing sex, infinite blowjobs and orgasms.

Your new fan,
Amanda xx

p/s: I’m heading over to read Sawyer’s book, but don’t worry you will always be my favorite.

Quotes:
Matt’s philosophy of life
“I hit any shit life throws my way with a high five.”

What Matt felt about Alex,
“Never before had I found a man so damn beautiful I couldn’t look at him without wanting to eat his fucking face.”

What Alex felt about Matt,
“You’re my jerk, Matthew Carter, and you always will be.”

I really enjoyed reading this one. I didn't read the previous books in this series, but I had no difficulty following the storyline, so this one can be read as a stand alone.

Anyone who read the previous books already know Matt. I didn't, but I gotta tell you...I loved him !!

He's a snarky, bitchy and very funny twat...as his friends call him...Matt the twat :)

He's the drummer of a rockband that recently retired...the members are still friends and he's still very famous. He's also a big manwhore who thinks very highly of himself. Alex is his best friend. They haven't been best friends for very long (you can read about that in the previous book), but they are very close.

Matt is straight, fucking his way through every woman he meets and Alex is gay, out and doesn't flaunt his sexlife.

Alex has been in love with Matt for some time, but he knows nothing will come off this for more than one reason. He's not pathetic about it or anything. He just excepts that Matt is his best friend and is oke with it. But Matt has been starting to develop some feelings for Alex, that he is confused about. Thankfully he has some very good friends to talk to.

The thing I loved most about Matt was, that he didn't belive in labels and he didn't give a shit what anybody else thought about him. Once he knew he wanted Alex, he went for it..100 %

But Alex has some demons of his own, that he needs to conquer.

This book wasn't too angsty. It wasn't too fluffy either, eventough there was some fluff (there are quite a bit of "I love you's"..."you make my life worth while". Still for me, it was really sweet. It also had some nice steam (always a plus for me!).

Now there is a heavy and serious subject in the book, but I think it was very nicely done. It didn't make the book all serious and sad, because I didn't cry once, but I did laugh my ass off on multiple occacions :)) Matt is so damn funny !!

4,5 stars from me....the storyline gets 4, but I'm giving an extra half to Matt...I would love having a friend like him !!!

High expectations exceeded!!!

I loved this story from start to finish. I dare say this may be my favourite portrayal of a straight playboy turning GFY that I've read to date. It was handled well. Every thought and feeling was weighed and processed; nothing was rushed. It was a slow burn, but not too slow. AND it was a friends-to-lovers story. Seriously, it was winning on all counts.

I absolutely adored Matt and Alex as lead characters. Matt and his outrageous (yet adorable) personality is one that I could happily read about forever. And who wouldn't want an Alex of their very own!? No one, that's who.

Matt's mum said it best when she explained to Matt how he'd recognise what real love is -

"When something happens in your day, big or small, good or bad, they’re the person you can’t wait to tell. They’re the person you can sit in silence with for hours without feeling uncomfortable. The person you can insult but would defend to the ends of the earth if anyone else dared to try. When you see them, hear from them, or even just think about them, they’ll make your heart smile."

Also, major props for handling possibly delicate subject matter with the utmost care and remarkable grace.

I smashed through this series in a matter of days. Nicola Haken has easily established a new fan in me. I can't wait to read more.

Definitely has its moments!!

...3.5 Stars....
I really liked this story. Matt made me laugh so many times, especially with his total lack of filter!

I jumped in the middle of this series so I felt a list at the beginning when the parade of names and couples came forth. Still, it was easy enough to settle into the story of a gay man in love with his best friend, Matt.

Matt is a straight, self-proclaimed, man-whore who feels empty in his life after the break up of his band. His best friend, Alex, and his mother are the two constants in his wreck of a life. When he loses those two anchors, Matt begins to grow up and figure out what it means to love.

Alex has been keeping secrets from Matt, and keeping himself at a distance from all sorts of emotional attachments (pinning after a straight best friend can't lead to anything, right)? Wrong.

The two end up together, and apart, and together.....The hated non-communication at play here. Thank fully, Sawyer (from previous books) keeps the two talking instead of hiding and helps them on their way to an HEA.

I liked the added dimension that Alex's secret brought into the relationship. I thought Matt's easy acceptance of mm love hard to buy at times, but it fit his character. A couple of other things niggled that kept this from being a solid 4 star read but I loved Matt, so he made this book a happy win for me!

Loved it! I was so eager for Matt's book and it was better than I anticipated. I really didn't think I could love Matt more but oh boy - what a fantastic hero! He rocked my world with his tenderness, caring, tenacity and patience.

The best of the series by far and one of my favourite reads of 2017, and Matt earned a spot on my perfect heroes shelf.

YAY! This one exceed my expectations! Finally. I knew reading the series would pay off!

I don’t if it has anything to do with the fact that I have a soft spot for: GFY and characters who are kind of assholes, but who turn out to be really great guys who used their assholery (yeah I just invented this word) as a disguise. Matt is THAT asshole. He’s known as “Matt the twat” for his friends. He has no filter, he’s the WOMANIZER to end all the womanizers, but deep down he’s just lonely. Enters Alex, gay friend who is sweet and kind and just exactly what Matt needs.

GFY when well done is probably my favorite trope. I liked that Matt had no problem accepting that he had fallen for his best friend. Matt is that kind of person that doesn’t care about anyone’s opinion but his and he just dives head first into everything he wants, so he accepts his new status just fine. There’s some drama, obviously, but I’m not gonna spoiler anyone.

All in all I’m happy I insisted on the series because it got progressively better.

Ha! Well am I embarrassed. I have that feeling like walking into a room (like a conference room during a meeting) and feeling all eyes on you as you all realize this is not the room you were meant to go and then having to back out. Yeah, cause a lot of you REALLY liked this book. Huh….what to say. I’ll keep it brief I thought the main thing the book had going for it was it set a realistic expectation of what entering into a relationship with POZ partner might mean. My only wish is that Alex, having been positive for 6 years, had already come to terms with it himself and hadn’t come off like he was living in shame. He’d done nothing wrong, these things happen. I also wish there hadn’t been the whole immature sagas surrounding them getting together. I felt Matt kind of said “hey I’m just going to go with my instincts and fuck definitions…it appears I want to get me some Alex” perfect attitude, initially, but then we’d have these things that didn’t mesh with that persona, like reaching out to a friend to have the “perfect date” and the whole joking all gay men wax saga that left him with one perfectly bare strip near his balls OR the whole gay must be catching because all these supposedly heterosexual male band mates happen to ultimately end up in same sex relationships. I think when the moment called for some seriousness all we got was more jokes. These made it not work for me. When they should have manned up and had a mature adult conversation they would miscommunicate and Alex would sulk off to his own apartment. Matt would get jokey and buy a car/dog/something.

Overall 2.5

So you start of with Matt who played drums for Souls of The Knight and was a huge player. Has been best friends with Alex for awhile, who has been there for Matt.
They way they were together from the start...
I just honestly loved everything about this book! I also loved seeing all the old band mates and friends.
You get your misunderstandings, Secrets, the sweet and of course the steam!
I really do not want to give anything away because this is one you defiantly need to read for yourself.

All together I really loved this book!

I would defiantly recommend this book!

I loved the first two books in this series and couldn't wait for Matt's story because, well, he's Matt! If any of you have read the previous books you'll know right away how Matt basically talks before he thinks. He has no filter and doesn't care what anyone thinks about him. Well, anyone except Alex. It was so endearing to see another side of him as he realizes his feelings for his buddy. Watching him flounder through unchartered waters of trying to do the right thing with not only NOT messing things up with Alex but also being a part of a real relationship.

There are a couple of serious issues written in this story ~ one of them an eye opener for not only Matt and Alex but for us readers as well. I am in awe of how Nicola handled this subject matter. This very subject, along with Matt's insecurities of messing up now or later with Alex, puts the two of them at the top of a disaster list for new couples. But, because they have friends or should I say family, like Ryder and especially Uncle Sawyer throwing them life preservers (I think Sawyer would've liked to have knocked them out with one or two) maybe, just maybe, they might have a chance for this to work.

I loved being inside Matt's head as scary as that sounds. He is truly a one-of-a-kind character that only Nicola could conjure up! At a moment's notice, he acts the obnoxious, entitled rock star that he is, in the next heartbeat he is sweet and vulnerable. His road to discovering that he just might belong on the "butt-bandit team" is hysterical. His text messages with Alex made me fall off my couch laughing so hard that my family thought I was insane or hurt! There are so many specific parts of this book that I want to share, but I won't dare ruin it for anyone.

"You're it for me. I don't need all the sh*t I used to think made life perfect. You're my perfect." Alex and Matt are just that, perfect. You know the expression, "there's someone for everyone?" That holds true because honestly I don't know how anyone else but Alex could possibly handle THE Matt fu#king Carter!

I know that all of you will enjoy this as much as I did. Nicola Haken completely outdid herself with this story. I've read hundreds of MM and this by far is one of, if not the best MM book that I've ever read.

Given this ARC as part of an honest review for upcoming blog tour ~

The Making of Matt is Book # 3 in Souls of the Knight Series by Nicola Haken and it is absolutely my favorite book in this series omg how I love Matt.

Matt Carter has been living his life bored and mostly lonely ever since the split of their band although he still sees his band mates which he considers his family there is something missing.

Alex Clark is best friends with Matt he looks up to him and is hiding a very important secret.
Together these two will have you laughing in stitches the banter between them is hysterical and also have your readers melting with the scorching sex scenes: and Alex is the only one who can somehow keep Matt somewhat stable.

I really loved how we get another look into Matt's personality and how he leans on his best friend Alex for support and venturing into a new journey in his life. Also the relationship he has with his mom is so endearing and we also get some laughs there too.

Watching these two develop into more than just friends is such a beautiful journey Nicola Really wrote this so brilliantly I loved the flow and the GFY aspect from best friends to lovers.

This story also will have you in tears at one point but it's so well done and fits right in and it shows so much growth and trusting between these best friends.

Nikola dealt with a very sensitive subject that effects millions daily but she did it with such grace, it shows with research,patience, love , and understanding love will prevail. Thank you so much for this beautiful story I can't recommend this enough.

Oh and be prepared to laugh your A*^ off at one of my favorite funniest scenes "at the spa"

At the beginning of this book I was skeptical about how I felt towards Matt. He was that eternal baby man, the most embarrassing relative you love but still not sure you want to be present for the holiday. He didn't exactly endear himself to me in the first book and was not making much effort here either. I was starting to get a little disappointed in him but then the miracle happened.

Enter Alex. That one friend everyone should have - understanding, non-judgemental and loving you the way you are. At first it seemed the story will evolve around unrequited love between a simple guy and a lazy rock star. But I am happy to say that it was more than that.

This was a fun read. So much humor, teasing and sometimes crass jokes was just what the doctor ordered. I loved how Matt and Alex were together. It was a discovery for them both. There were some really big bombshells dropped on my head unexpectedly but it was amazing to watch them get through them all. Matt turned around but not in a sense that he totally changed, he just came into his own, became the man he was always supposed to be. He kind of found himself. Alex, well his story is a lot different from Matt's, had his own issues to contend with. He needed the push to accept himself, maybe forgive too and move on from his past. Matt made him see himself in a different light and made him feel like he belonged. There were some pretty unnecessary misunderstandings, but then they were relationship virgins, well almost, at least Matt was and it was new and they were navigating it together. But, major book advice, talking to each other really helps!

I can't help but compare two different couples: Ashley and Adam versus Matt and Alex. This was one question that went unanswered for me. After Ashley's story was told who was in the wrong? I mean Matt had his opinion and Ashley had hers or was it even hers? I just wonder did she change herself or was it conditioning? Like turning into a perfect Stepford wife. I wish that I knew. It bothers me that a person can change so much and not in a good way. I felt sad for Matt but more for her because of what she will miss out on.

The boys were definitely lighting the sheets on fire. I am glad that Matt got serious enough to take the plunge and Alex got secure enough in himself to let go, and yeah, they left me all hot and bothered. Matt's adventurous side made things spicy! But it was also great fun and so sexy! I loved them together. Things were finally as they should be for everyone. It's sad that there will not be any more stories about Knights but the ones I've read I will remember with fondness. Bye guys, I will miss you much!

It's a testament to Nicola Haken's talent, that despite the fact of m/m romances not being my preferred genre, she manages to lure me in every single time.
"The Making Of Matt" isn't any different and kept me captivated and messed with my emotions throughout.

I was really apprehensive when I heard about this book as I couldn't see how Matt suddenly started a relationship with another man. There was no indication of him being gay in the previous books and I feared it was just a way to follow a trend.
But the more I read, the more I realized how well this turn of events fits with Matt's personality.
He's non-judgemental and open-minded and he loves a person. He loves their personality and their soul, not making love dependent on their gender.
This really is the kind of person Matt is, so it ended up making sense.
His own book confirmed why he was always my favorite character in the series.
He's a bit crazy, a bit funny, very cocky and quite the handful. He's the wild child within his circle of friends. The party machine and the ladies' man.
At least he was but he has started to change.
And those changes are brought about by his friendship with Alex and the influence this friendship has on him.
Alex has been his best friend for a while now, becoming a focal point of Matt's life.
Not surprisingly, Matt is at first confused when he realizes he's attracted to Alex. But confusion quickly makes way for acceptance as Matt wants to take the friendship further. His easiness with his feelings for Alex was so heart-warmingly beautiful. There wasn't much questioning. There was no shame and embarrassment. There was just love. And that was really refreshing.
Matt doesn't give a damn what anyone else might think or about other people's approval. He's sure in himself and his own choices. And therefore he is sure in his feelings for Alex.

But his enthusiasm is met with hesitation and resistance on Alex' side despite the fact that Alex has had feeling for Matt for a long time. The reason for holding back is heart-breaking and his fear of rejection tangible throughout the story.
He would rather lose out on the love of his life than risk losing his friendship with Matt. He shouldn't underestimate Matt though as he proves again and again how awesome he is.

I loved the fact that this book showed a different side of coming out. One where the character wasn't fearful or ashamed, but comfortable with who he was. He simply saw himself as a person in love.
I appreciated the fact that Nicola Haken yet again tackled a sensitive topic and has done so gracefully.
Personally, I would have loved to see a bit more of a struggle on Matt's part with the revelation instead of his at times nearly ignorant enthusiasm.
Showing more of the adjustments and trials and tribulations that Alex' secret bring about, would have given it more weight. But then I love when books dive into the more difficult stuff, even if it is at the expense of the romance and the smut.

"The Making Of Matt" was a beautiful love story that showed the meaning of true love, acceptance and friendship.

A well deserved 5 A-FREAKING-MAZING stars, 'cause let's face Matt's just that great ;)
Matt the self proclaimed sex-aholic who, where some people worry where their next meal will be coming from, worries where his next lay will be coming from. His best friend, Alex is gay and nothing Matt does shocks him anymore. He's in love with Matt but Matt can't see this and is straighter than a ruler, or so he thinks. A few things happen which trigger Matt's true feelings to surface and, when a fall out leads to them not talking for a while this just cements his feelings all the more for how he feels about Alex. This story was soooooooooo emotional at times and i really felt sorry for Matt but was proud of how he dealt with certain things which he found out about Alex, especially with how immature he was at the beginning of the book. He definitely grew up A LOT throughout the story and i think Nicola did an amazing job covering Alex's "news". Well done !!! Beautiful story, amazing characters, absolutely loved it !!!

Matt Carter is a former drummer, resident mama's boy and pussy destroyer. What he wasn’t was driven, organized, and he had no plan for what happened after Souls of the Knight. But Alex Carter was his BFF and when he proposed that he find a new passion, he blew him off. Then his phone rings and spins his world around. Matt has no idea how to cope with what comes next. Alex is there supporting him. The feelings that Matt feels for Alex…he isn’t sure if they are real, from the trauma or what, but he wants to explore them.

Feels, oh the feels! I’m not going to flail about but I will say, if you want a book that makes your heart soar, renew your faith in love and the human spirit, this is your book! There are some real life and hard issues that come up, but they are dealt with in an educational but loving manner. For Matt, finding love with Alex isn’t about being male or female but finding true love. Everyone deserves to be loved, and Matt and Alex found it together! ~ Heather, 5 stars

~~~
I occasionally get the pleasure of recommending books to friends that want to try something new, and one of my favorites to recommend is always Being Sawyer Knight. Why? It’s just SO good and for people new to the M/M genre, I think it’s an excellent place to get started. And now, I can add this book—the third in the same series—to my list of go-to recommendations. Because The Making of Matt is ALL THE THINGS I love about reading.
Matt Carter doesn’t know what to do with himself now that Souls of the Knight are no longer. His life was always music—and the women and booze that came along with it. Lost and a little unsure, Matt turns to his best friend, Alex Clark for help deciding what to do next.
Alex has been in love with his very straight, former rockstar of a best friend for a long time. But that doesn't mean anything though—nothing is ever going to happen, and even if it could, Alex has a past that he can't avoid. Getting Matt move to the next phase of his life by helping him buy a club is the least he can do…especially when Matt’s life is rocked once again.
What happens though, when Matt starts to think that his feelings for Alex—his rock, his confidante, his best friend aren't so platonic? Can these two damaged souls find their way to happily ever after?
Oh man, THIS BOOK. It is amazing. And, like I stated above, all the things I love about reading. It's funny as hell—Matt’s kindle adventures…enough said—and it had the ability to bring tears to my eyes at the drop of a hat. Who knew that laundry could have that effect on someone? It’s chock-full of characters that just mesh perfectly, and angst that's never forced and just in the right amount to get your blood pumping.
Nicola Haken wowed me with her first book in the Souls of the Knight series, and I enjoyed the second book too, but this one? This one is unequivocally my favorite. Matt and Alex are…perfect. Or, more like, perfectly imperfect. Matt is an I-don't-give-a-fuck drummer that's lost inside, and Alex has been broken a little by his past—and by his future. Together, they fit so right, it's impossible to turn away from them. I loved how they bantered, how they loved, how Matt faced this major change in his life, and how Alex showed his concern for his friend, all while (quite rightly) trying to protect himself too.
Add in “Uncle Sawyer” and Jake, Ryder and Mason, Kip and Elle, and all their crazy friendship antics, and The Making of Matt is simply unputdownable. The dynamics of this group of friends—this family—are addictive, an emotional roller coaster that I did not want to get off. I wish I didn't have to. But since I have, I'm now going to encourage everyone else to climb aboard instead. READ. THIS. BOOK. ~ Beth, 5 stars
Matt Carter, self-proclaimed sex-god and drummer for world renowned Souls of the Knight, didn’t have the time or inclination for planning his future, preferring to fill his days with music, women and alcohol. He didn’t want or need anything else in his life.
Until the band parted ways and he found himself no longer living the dream.
Bored and lonely, with too much time and money on his hands, Matt turns to his best friend, Alex Clark, to help devise a new direction to take his life in. Together, they embrace their newfound venture, as owner and manager of one of L.A.’s hottest gay clubs – Kaleidoscope. For the first time, Matt has a plan. He knows where life is heading.
Until a devastating phone call turns his whole world upside down, sending him straight into the comforting arms of his best friend and leading him to doubt everything he’s ever known or believed about himself.
Alex had always been content with his unrequited feelings for his rockstar friend, but as Matt starts to question if he might actually feel the same, he runs as fast as his feet will allow.
Has Matt gone too far? Has his reputation as an irresponsible womanizer who refuses to take life seriously, finally managed to push his best friend away for good?
Or is Alex hiding secrets of his own?
Review
Wow! Just wow! I think this is my favorite book out of the Souls of the Knight Series - this story is intense and not what I expected for Matt's story at all. Throughout the Souls of the Knight books we are shown a side of Matt that really makes the readers either love him or hate him.. personally I had a little bit of a love/hate relationship with Matt. Once we get to his story, we realize there is much more to Matt than just a cocky rock star looking for the next woman to score with.
Lets not forget Alex though, as this is very much his story as well as Matt’s. Alex has been a supporting character since Ryder's story and we have watched Matt and Ryder build a strong friendship -- so it makes sense that when Matt has his world forever changed he would turn to Alex. The thing they both have to figure out is are these feelings real or as a result to a traumatic event and when everything is brought to light, is their love strong enough that they are both willing to lay it all on the line and go for it?
This is a great series all around. I enjoy it when an author is able to keep building the storyline throughout a series instead of just writing books for the sake of writing. Some series run into the age old problem of sequel books not living up to the first book, therefore the series is a disappointment. However, some series deserve to have those extra books, the story demands it..the characters still have so much to say - Souls of the Knight Series is the perfect example and the second and third books in this series definitely live up to the beginning.
Quotes
“I don’t know how or why I feel like I do,” he said, his voice strained. “I’m confused about everything…except the fact that I want you. I need you, Alex. I need you to believe in me. To trust me. I need you to give me a chance to prove to you that I’m serious about this. About us. I’m not saying it won’t be difficult, that I won’t get freaked out and turn into a monster jackass sometimes. But I want to try, and f#ck I need you to want it too.”
By far the best in the series for me. Matt is F@#$!%G hilarious! He is such a dumb ass you can not help but love him. The writing in this one for me was better too. The writing got stronger from book to book. Really sexy, heartwarming story. The HIV theme was handled well in my opinion as well. The Matt character really steals the book. He is refreshing and genuine. I really liked this book. I didn't leave reviews for the previous two books not because the were bad but they were just ok. This book takes the series to another level but I do not recommend reading this one without reading the first 2. So much of the group dynamic is established throughout books 1 & 2, obviously making it easier to understand the relationships. Good book.
This is by far Nicola's best novel so far! I feel like Nicola picked me up from page one and stuck me right inside Matt's head. Known as Matt the Twat, he is a very interesting character. I loved being in his head! Her characters are raw, compassionate, sexy, and so full of love. You get to experience a whole new side to Matt and watch him come into his own in the story. I couldn't put this book down. Nicola totally gave me all those butterfly feelings you get with first/new love. Amazing characters, amazing love and amazing novel! I can't wait for another wonderful story from Nicola, she is definitely one to watch as I believe she is coming into her own too!
This is the best book in the series, IMO. I liked Alex and Matt, but I loved them as a couple. Their friendship was the perfect foundation for their relationship.
The author did a great job showing how much both characters grew over time and how important their other relationships were for them. All her characters were credible and stayed true to their personalities, which were intrinsically theirs.
Overall, a really quick and fun read with a serious topic within-- explored and presented from an informed point of view.
PS. Now I want to read Alan's story, even if it is a spinoff from the original series.
5+ stars!! I REALLY enjoyed this book! Let me first say the cover is HOT and it's how I picture Matt completely. I can't do review now but I'm so excited that this book was sooo good; I almost read in one sitting (haven't done that in awhile:=) ) I completely forgot I read the 1st book in the series "Souls of Knight" - it was forever ago. The book description does a good job of giving the background on Matt; the drummer in Souls of Knight. I was able to pick it up pretty quickly and get into it right off the bat. Lots gong on in it and it kept me completely hooked!
