Slacker Mills is back in a harrowing sequel to Lee Stone's popular Free Fish Friday. With a tragic Key West experience behind him and a promising new life ahead, the acclaimed fisherman doesn't make his South Florida escape quickly enough. Adrift in a sea of women with the beauty of sailfish, the majesty of marlin, the mystery of mahi, and the hearts of tarpon, Slacker hooks up with monumental trouble instead. Another special friend is dead and he could be the reason. When a barracuda bares its teeth, no one is safe.
Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Lee Stone made Alaska home for over thirty years. Now residing in Delray Beach, Florida, he began writing in 2014. His initial four books fall into three separate genres: Slacker Mills Mysteries, the coming-of-age adventure of teenager Amy Westin, and the fantasy tale of an old golfer.
Stone's storytelling is unique in both its originality and awareness that both good and bad reside in everyone, a hero and a villain, a savant and a stooge. Only the degree and deployment of each set us apart.
That philosophy is on full display in Stone's new release, "The Student Council." Early reviews have stamped young Amy Westin as "intriguing and unforgettable."
Stone is also known in South Florida for his unique sand creations. Samples of his sand play can be viewed on Facebook under Delray Beach Sand or under Lee Stone Sand on youtube.
I loved Free Fish Friday and this sequel was absolutely more of the same. Same great characters, same sharp writing. Overall, I thought there was probably more depth in this one and a couple of turns I never saw coming. The braids! Was it one of the sisters, or Maria? I loved them all and read with sickened anticipation to find out who it was... knowing I'd be gutted no matter who it could be. The addition of a new true Key West character and his plot line also threw me. Can't wait for Slacker 3! Incidentally, I just finished The Student Council, hoping for more Slacker-type adventures from the author. What a treat - completely different from the Slacker series, and surprisingly even better. Don't miss it, it's sure to be an instant classic.
Barracuda, by Lee Stone is a worthy successor to Free Fish Friday, but I would not read it without first reading "Free Fish...". Barracuda has too many references to the first book that would be a shame to miss.
Slacker Mills is back but not fishing so much in this sequel. He has a love life to sort out that turns into a tale of revenge and danger. Slacker sticks with what he does best - fishing and being the best friend, lover, and mentor he can be. The result is life keeps going his way but with potholes and bumps along the way to make it interesting.
Will there be another Slacker adventure in Costa Rico?
Another good one. Slacker's one of those characters you want to see continue. Are you paying attention, Lee Stone? Meanwhile, I've ordered two others and they're waiting on my iPad.
I had to read this after finishing the first Slacker Mills book, Free Fish Friday, at the end of August. This book expands on the characters introduced in the first book and they are funny, and quirky, and set on the great exotic (to me) island of Key West. On finishing this I looked for the next only to find that Lee Stone's latest book is not related to this series. His Amazon page says he likes to make sand art on the beaches of Florida. I would like to tell him to get off the beach and get back to writing Slacker Mills books!!!
What a series! I finished Free Fish Friday feeling like I lived in Key West and knew the characters. Barracuda picks right up with the same clever writing and smooth, enjoyable reading. After reading 3 books now by the author, the Slacker Mills series were great fun, very entertaining. The Student Council was one of the best books I have ever read. Can't wait for more!
