A powerful Contemporary Romance. Here is the first book in the ‘Whipped’ Series by Lucia Jordan, written in her signature style of high passion and emotion.
‘Burke is the missing piece to Avery’s puzzle, but is he as perfect as he seems?’
Avery Martin’s life screeched to a halt ten years ago when a drunk driver killed her parents, and any hope she had for a normal life disappeared. Now all she has to show for her life is a dead-end job in an antiques store owned by Margot, Avery’s boss that treats her like a slave. She has no idea who she is or what she wants, she just knows something – or someone – is missing from her life.
Burke Stone instantly fell for Avery Martin when he first saw her at the courtroom on the day of his stepbrother’s trial nine years ago. Even through her grief, she was the most demure young lady he’d ever seen, a perfect mix of sensuality and innocence. So when Burke walks into the store where Avery works she has no idea who he is - all she knows is she’s completely entranced by the mysterious stranger’s charm and seductive good looks.
But as the passion starts to intensify, Avery begins to discover the man of her dreams is no stranger at all. Will Avery be able to overcome the tragedy of her past to create a future with Burke?

2.5 stars. This is more like a 35 page sample, and if you like it the entire series (4 small parts a total of 154 pages) is available for 2.99 on Amazon.
It's cute and sweet at times, despite the writing being off. There are typos and the dialogue is sometimes unnatural. The story is unrealistic, and combined with the writing style it comes across as rough around the edges. For such a short story, there's a good amount of character development for the heroine.
It's mostly forgettable. If it was free on KU I'd probably continue, but I'm not invested enough to purchase the series.
I like a quick erotic read at times and this one could have been that without the horrible boss that took away from the connection between the two MC’s Avery and Burke. And for a story entitled whipped, the only BDSM involved was a tie. And it leaves you on a cliffhanger.

Avery's parents were killed ten years ago. Ever since then, she has put her own ambitions and dreams aside to take care of her younger brother. She works at an antiques store. She's good at her job but has decided to endure dealing with an abusive boss until her brother graduates from college and becomes financially independent.
During a typical dreary day, a handsome man named Burke walks into the store. The attraction between Burke and Avery is intense and instantaneous. Burke has been obsessed with Avery ever since his stepbrother killed her parents. He has been keeping tabs on her and her brother over the years and decided now is his chance to get to know her. Even as he pursues a relationship with Avery, he doesn't reveal his connection to her.
This book started off as promising but the relationship between Burke and Avery felt more awkward and uncomfortable instead of being sexy and romantic. The extent of the rage and anger Avery's boss directed towards her was totally insane. The way Avery's boss interacted with her and Burke made me think she had an undiagnosed personality disorder. It threw me for a loop. There was something about all of the relationships and interactions in this book that felt off-kilter.
I have to admit there is a curiosity factor with regards to reading the rest of the series. I wonder how far off the cliff these characters and their storylines go in the other books. I have a feeling this story is only going to get more unhinged the deeper you get into it.
I thought this was going to be a quick erotica short but it’s a 35 page set up for the series. And it doesn’t read like a typical erotica. There’s surprisingly a lot of character development and it’s written in third person which is very unusual for an erotica. I love third person, it shows the author wants to write a story and not lean on the crutch of a first person POV.
The sex is typical sex. More explicit than normal romance stories but for me it was tame.
This isn’t a BDSM story, AT ALL. The heroine is tied to the headboard and some talk of the Hero being a Dom. That’s it — maybe in later books this is explored?
This is a story about a man who has been obsessed with a young woman he met during a bad time in her life. She doesn't remember him but he's kept up with her and her brother. Her vindictive boss will feed on her insecurities. This is a entertaining read. Enjoy I did.
So far it has me wanting to read more about this story. It's got me wondering how Lucia is going to get these two people together with the baggage that they both bring. Can't wait.
Just okay. The story line is intriguing but the sex made me feel like I was reading 50 shades again. Paired with grammar and spelling errors, it was a struggle to read, and I don't see myself reading the next book.
Not bad, but not great. Too much like Fifty Shades of Grey...almost to the exact wording. But this doesn't drag on...definitely gets right to the point!
This is the story of Avery Martin and Burke Stone. Avery works in an antiques store. She has been working there to basically pay for her younger brother's college education. Since he is close to graduating she doesn't know what to do with her life. She feels her brother is growing into adulthood and won't need her anymore. She is now thinking of having a self-exploration of what she wants to do with her life. Go back to school? Quit her job with her boss Margot, who she feels doesn't appreciate her and is intimated by her beauty?
One day Margot tells Avery to keep a customer occupied until she comes back to the store. Avery was not to engage the customer. Margot was staking her claim to that particular customer. In walks Burke. Unknown her Avery, Burke has been fawning over her for 9 years. He has been keeping tabs on her and her brother due to a sense of duty. He cannot control himself around her. When he saw her he thought he would have been able to ask her out, but it moved so fast that he wanted to take her to bed right then and there. While flirting he could feel she was attracted to him too.
They had an amazing night of sex. But what threw me off was that he wanted to tell her he was a dominant and when he did Avery was so casual about it. The next day Burke sends a gift and Margot sensed they were together and made accusations, which made Avery look at Burke differently. Why would she believe anything Margot says? She knows that Margot is jealous and vindictive. Some of the things she said could have been true, but she knows the words were said to cut her.
Things in this book moved a little fast, but I do want to see how Avery and Burke get back together. I want to read about his actions to do that and her thoughts during that time. Also I am wondering what it is about Avery that had him whipped and stuck on her for 9 years. I will be reading the next book in the series.
Whipped by Lucia Jordan Purchased: Kindle - Free My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars
What It’s About: Avery has always stayed in the lines when it came to her life, after raising her brother for the last ten years she didn’t have a choice. But with his impending graduation from college, Avery doesn’t know what to do with her life now. Cue in Burke Stone and her life turns upside down.
The Best Parts: The brass nature of Burke’s and Avery's relationship is fantastic to read. Granted this whole portion to the story is basically just sex it totally work. You learn so much about the characters within this time that I couldn’t help but fall in love with them. The story is unique that it is the man who is chasing after the woman and that he is the one constantly fighting for her.
The Worst Parts: I actually didn’t find anything that I didn’t like about this story. It is a BDSM novel, but I love that things are loosely explained and then solidified. It makes it all seem so real and not just some fantasy like some BDSM novels do.
I just love the stories Lucinda Jordan writes. I love that the first book is always free and the latter are .99 a piece. Again, this is a short story and boy is it steamy. Love many of the scenes in this book. I have read 50 Shades of Grey and hated it... to tame for my taste. But, let me tell you, the scenes are more visual here than in FSOG. If you are looking for a steamy erotica book, I recommend any stories written by Lucinda Jordan.
Avery and Burke have met before but she doesn't remember him. He knows exactly who she is and wants her to be his. But what will happen when she hears his secret. I want to know. Recommended for those that like a little romance with their erotica.
