If you’re looking for romance & a cutesy read, this book is not it. But the plot & build up alone makes it so worth it in the end!
I am so hoping we get more back story for the side characters as well in the next book!

The idea behind the plot was great. The idea of the characters was great. The smut? Also great. 🤣 Unfortunately, I just don't think the execution quite lived up to the potential.
The banter and honestly most of the dialogue, felt quite flat to me. There were so many one word or very short responses that the conversations started to feel clipped rather than natural and after a while it really started grating on me. I wanted the interactions to breathe a little more and give these characters space to actually develop.
I also never really became emotionally connected to anyone, which was probably my biggest issue. I would've loved more insight into the unit, their history together and the individual motivations. There was such a perfect opportunity to do this through Jackal in particular and I kept waiting for the story to dig a little deeper.
The characters definitely had their own personalities, but somehow a lot of them still started to bleed into one another. Jackal and Wolf were probably the two who stood out the most to me, while the others never felt quite distinct enough for me to become properly invested in them.
There was also quite a bit of repetition and the plot occasionally felt a little all over the place. There were plenty of interesting ideas, but I don't think they always came together as smoothly as they could have.

My god I wanted to love this.

The concept was brilliant.
The execution not so much.

Honestly? The dialogue is written by AI. You can’t convince me otherwise.

There is no way that every single character in this book is devoid of human emotion the minute they begin to talk to one another. I’ve used AI/chatgpt to help with dialogue before and because it’s so clipped and emotionless I binned an entire novel. Because it ruined it for me. Even after I changed everything and stopped using the AI, it was totally tainted.

I’m so so disappointed. ☹️ like genuinely.

If the author was to rewrite and use her own words and writing to do the dialogue, then I’d give it another go.

But as for now… it’s 1 ⭐

I love a good dark military romance, unfortunately this wasn’t it for me.
The FCM has no descriptions or story building, I feel like everything is very dialogue heavy but there’s no scene setting. No description, just one or two word snipe dialogue between characters. I do enjoy that occasionally for humor, but not with every conversation.

Also I love a masked mysterious MMC as much as the next person, but why is Wolf wearing a half face mask all the time? In the bunker, in the bathroom, in the kitchen. No one thought that was weird? Idk maybe it’s explained later in the book why but I can’t be bothered to read that far

Okay so… this book was GREAT entertainment. Like Wattpad in the best possible way. I mean that as the highest compliment.

I loved these characters. I loved the banter. I loved the tension. I loved the drama.

But honestly, the thing I appreciated the most was the buildup. THANK YOU. Thank you for not making two characters look at each other once and immediately decide they’ve found their eternal soulmate and then somehow end up naked 30 pages later.

We actually got to WATCH the relationships develop. The little interactions. The tension. The actions with everyone. The feelings slowly creeping in. We weren’t just being slapped in the face with “he was so in love with her” every five seconds. No. You SHOWED me. And I appreciate that SO MUCH.

I also really liked that the main plot wasn’t just an excuse to get everyone into a romance. There were actual details, descriptions, things happening, and a story underneath all tension and emotional suffering.

Like… excuse me??? What am I supposed to do with myself now??? I’m going to miss these boys. 😭😭😭

Overall, if you want a quick, fun, addictive read with banter, tension, ridiculous amounts of anticipation, angst, romance, whump, and characters you’ll get way too attached to…

This was my first military romance and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! I immediately fell in love with all the characters!

Finally well developed side characters that aren’t there just to fill in space. Each one brought something different to the story and I appreciate this.

Again, being new to military romance, I came into this blind. It was easy to follow, easy to understand and kept me SO INVESTED in the story (which is heartbreakingly sad but so so real). I felt connected to the Mia and Wolf but also excited to read about the other boys 😏 especially Jackal. That man stole my soul.

I can’t friggin wait for the next book to come out! Totally hooked. Wolf can GET IT. The spice is spicing and the plot is plotting!!!!!!!

I’m used to reading books where the spice happens right away but this was a slow burn in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE. And when the spice happens…. Oh yes. It was fan-fucking-tastic.

I will be sitting here patiently waiting for the next book. Maybe I’ll convince my husband to play Call of Duty 🥵🥵

I devoured this! The MMC was so well written, and I loved the FMC's attitude. The plot is a huge focus here, and I honestly lived for all the tiny nerdy details about guns, tech, and military gear. Do I wish the characters had a tiny bit more depth? Yeah. But it was so refreshing to read a romance without any instalove or instalust. People say there was no chemistry or build up, but I disagree. The tension stayed professional and totally uncringey. I know some readers hated that the MMC kept his mask on the whole time, but I was obsessed with it. It made total sense given the whole secret identity thing. Not perfect, but easily a solid 4/5 stars.

This was a great read. I have read THOUSANDS of books, long, short, series, you name it. I have not read a book like this in a while.

The tension, the little hints, the dynamic between characters. And the pay off???!!!! Worth the wait. 🥵 My mouth was literally AGAPE at the end. I'm DYING for the next book.

I had higher hopes. The plot? Great idea. The smut? Also great. The ending? Was good. The reason for ⭐️⭐️⭐️ is because I felt the book was rushed. There was no character build up at all. There was no background on the characters. You get an idea why some of the characters act a certain way but not the full picture. I just wished there were more back story about each member of the unit.

Let me start by saying this book is NOT a romance.

There was no buildup to their relationship, no chemistry, and the only thing we got was one sex scene at the end. I had so many issues with this book.

The whole thing was so monotone. There was no excitement, and the dialogue was rough to read. A character would ask a question or make a statement and the response would be ONE word. It was like reading a book about robots. 😂 There was just no human emotion in any of it.

Some of the descriptions were also cringe. Like… “puffed lips”? 😬

And then there’s the mask. This man is wearing a mask that covers his entire face EVERYWHERE. Going into a coffee shop? Mask. Gas station? Mask. And nobody thinks that’s weird when he’s also walking around in cargo pants, a utility belt, and his entire face covered? 😂 That would raise so many red flags!

The frustrating part is that I actually LOVED the idea of this book. The storyline and characters could have made for an excellent story. But it felt like the author was just giving us the story in bullet points instead of actually letting us experience it.

There was so much potential here, but the execution just wasn’t there for me.

I wanted to like this, the plot had potential but it just didn’t go anywhere for me. I got through 50% and felt like nothing had actually happened- their mission came across quite boring- there was a lot of descriptions of location etc but no actual drama. I wasn’t rooting for the fmc, there wasn’t anything special about her, she just didn’t follow orders. The mmc also gave nothing. The scenes where they were together were the best part of this book but not enough to really keep me interested. The side characters have potential but they were not developed enough in this book- the jackal seemed the most interesting, I would be intrigued by his story. Overall this just seemed like a very long introduction to the characters. The cliffhanger was slightly interesting so I would read the next book.

3.5 stars/// this book was a mix between COD, taken, swat and a lot of other shows. Overall this was a great debut novel. It was more plot centric rather than character development which I would’ve like to see a better balance of. The plot twist at the end was insane, however it didn’t necessarily make sense with the FMC actions. I wish all the military guys were more developed with a backstory although the banter was excellent! The dialogue also felt a bit choppy because it was straight dialogue then describing where it should’ve been interspersed. The romance was definitely just thrown in here and it could’ve been more slow burn, but overall the plot was very interesting and I am excited to read the next one.

The ending!!!?!?!? 🤯😩🙌👏 if you dont like spice right away you'll love this! The characters are so likeable. You want to read about each and everyone. This is my first military romance and I want more!!! I didnt even know if ill like this trope? Genre? Whatever it is but omg I WAS MISSING OUT. The writing is done perfectly in my opinion and even though I dont know military talk lol it was so east to follow and the way things are described I felt like I was there. When things were getting heavy I felt like I couldnt breathe because just the way it was written felt like I was in the room with them. The chemistry with the other characters are so good and my only "negative" thing is I wish it was longer 😭 im definitely gonna be recommending this book to everyone

Ooooof, what a great book! the tension between Mia (rabbit) and wolf could be cut with a knife. I love how the plot was such a big part of the book, loved all the details about the guns, the processes Mia and Raven went through to analyse the data they got and all the geeky military equipment the special ops team wen through. It was 10/10, chefs kiss! Can’t wait for the second book.

Phew…
This has everything I could have wanted in a book. The banter, masked MMC, action, and so much more. The list is endless. I really was unsure at first if I could get past all the technical terminology and missions. But it flowed with the story so well mixing it up with the banter between the guys and Mia.
That cliff hanger though! I’m going to have a book hangover. I can’t wait to read the next one!!!!
