The Krays: Their Life Behind Bars

Rate this book
The Their Life Behind Bars is an extraordinary book - written by the only journalist the notorious twins trusted.

Robin McGibbon, who collaborated with Charlie Kray on his best-selling memoir, Me and My Brothers, was welcomed into the Krays' inner sanctum.

As a valued friend and confidant, the former Daily Express sub-editor was asked to visit Reg in top-security prisons, and Ron, in Broadmoor's hospital for the criminally insane.

For more than ten years, he saw the twins at close quarters, witnessing their contrasting personalities, violent mood swings and eccentric humour.

When Ron's second wife caused him to suffer a mental breakdown, it was McGibbon he turned to, writing 23 heart-rending letters in just two weeks, pleading for help.

When Reg was distraught with grief over his twin's death, McGibbon was the person he chose to help with the most intimate parts of the funeral.

The Their Life Behind Bars contains private letters and personal photos of the twins - and an unedited transcript of an exclusive Broadmoor interview, in which Ron tells for the first time why he shot a rival villlain dead in the Blind Beggar pub.

This sensational insight into the minds of Britain's most feared gangsters also

HOW Reg destroyed a friend's life.

WHO Ron ordered to be murdered.

WHY Reg denied his brother his dying wish.

WHICH gangster Ron hated most.

H0W the twins humiliated their older brother, Charlie.

WHY innocent people were beaten up.

And, intriguingly, this fascinating. revelatory book tells why the author would never have met any of the Krays had it not been for sex!

In all the books I've read about the Krays, this is the first time I've ever seen Ronnie Kray presented in a sympathetic light.
You normally cringe at just how utterly dangerous and bonkers he was.

This is an interesting read and what the author says about Charlie Kray at the end of the book is food for thought.
