A Prepper fiction book of survival in an EMP grid down post apocalyptic world. Farley is a old prepper that is stuck in the city when a solar storm sets of a electromagnetic pulse event taking the grid down world wide.. Our hero stays in the city facing societal breakdown for ten weeks until it is evident he must escape and bug out somewhere. The problem is he only has a half tank of gas and not any means to get any more. His destination requires more fuel than that and he finds himself stuck on the side of a dirt road heading towards a lake cabin he once stayed in. A violent encounter changes his life and his circumstances forever as he tries to protect a boy and his mother in a apocalyptic world. This book is filled with the author’s southern prepper fiction humor and wit that teaches you survival skills while entertaining with a tale full of twists and turns..
I enjoy apocalyptic fiction and have read a lot of new writers and as a writer myself I hate to be critical, but before you publish a book it should be edited and mistakes corrected. From what I read the author had some good ideas, but unless English was not his first language there is no excuse for the misuse of language, the typos etc. At the very least have friends and family read your book and Mark the mistakes, so they can be corrected. Heaven help us this is just book one in a series, please Mr. Foster find a proofreader and an editor if you are serious about being a writer. Good ideas are only the bones of a book, proofreading and editing are what makes the book enjoyable to read.
I enjoyed this book for several reasons. I learned ideas to protect myself and conserve. Many things I had not thought of as I strive toward self-suffiencykkyi
Wonderful story just not enough of it. Just when the story was getting good it ended. Would love to read more of the old man, his new wife and their son. :)
This book is not long enough. It leaves the reader wondering what happens next. It has good advice for "what to do" in a disaster. Makes a person wonder if they could survive a world wide disaster.
If you'd like to read a catalog of survival gear you can buy, interspersed with occasional descriptions of a guy using them to survive the end of the world, look no further. Love the genre, even love the premise, did not care for the execution.
This is the second book I have read of Ron Foster. The first one I hated. This book is actually pretty good. Fun to read. For an apocalypse book I can see this happening for real. Looking forward to reading more of his work.
The story itself was not too bad but I was very distracted by the mistakes in grammar, punctuation, etc. This definitely could have used a proofreader/editor. Most if not all of the new authors that I have read have this problem.
