Yours Truly, Fall: A Small Town, Forced Proximity, Firefighter Romance

There are worse things than being stuck alone in a cabin with a hot as sin firefighter who’s good with his hands. A lot worse . . . This should be fun.

Agreeing to help Brandon Culver recover from his injury seemed harmless enough.

Sure, he’s a firefighter and Mountain Laurel Cove’s most eligible bachelor. But I’m too busy focusing on my nursing career to be distracted by a handsome face.

Unfortunately, Brandon is a lot more than a great face.

He’s steady. Dependable. He’s the kind of man who remembers the little things and shows up when it matters. His easy confidence is comforting. His quiet strength makes me feel safe. And the way he looks at me makes me question everything I thought I wanted.

But I’m in his home to care for him, not fall for him.

One tiny slip could ruin all the plans I’ve meticulously made for my life. Romance is a fool’s game and if I’m anything, I’m level-headed. Until his heated gaze and lingering touch threaten to turn the electricity between us into a five-alarm fire.

If I’m not careful, I might be the one getting burned.

Tropes forced proximity, small town, firefighter + nurse, workplace romance, friends to lovers, he falls first, feel-good romance.

ARC/ALC Review

So, it’s time for my thoughts. *hangs head* They’re not all bad thoughts, but mostly. Sorry. It's been a while since this book released, so here I go ...

✔️ Amnesia of only one person and that person is your love interest (side-eye)

✔️This is a small town, yet she had NO CLUE about the fire itself nor the fireman in the hospital with, for lack of a better term, a brain injury. (side-eye)

✔️Their shared “past” and how it had affected Autumn was just OTT. I get what happened, but I just don’t understand how something so long ago would affect a grown woman today. I just don’t see it. Then to finally find out what Autumn actually saw was basically “a trick of the eyes” had me rageful! LOL STOP.IT. This is just about the only circumstance that made me twitchy that could possibly be a “me” thing. Possibly! (eye-roll)

✔️If your BF and Mother are not going to pretend they don’t know said nurse, how does the information that he should know get left unsaid. HOW? What BF and mother do that? Because this whole selective amnesia is not bad enough, let’s pile on to his “confusion” by being deceptive. Of course. (side-eye)

✨The first 30(ish) percent of this book was the longest period of time in my life. Not kidding. (all the eyes)

If I felt that any and all circumstances about this book were a “me” thing, I would just say that and not “talk” about them. But I just don’t think it’s me interpreting the circumstances in this book incorrectly or in a any biased way. Like they are factually side-eye worthy, and I hate it! I hate it mostly because this book is coming off one of the best #winning streaks I’ve ever had with a new(ish) to me author. I was outrageously blown away by the depth and awareness in Scott’s last two releases. Outrageously! So, okay, maybe I was too “high” from those two books, and I set my expectations higher than I should have. Sure, but no, because the circumstances that made me very twitchy didn’t make me that way because I had high expectations. They were written twitchy.

For me, a story has to make sense. Realism can fly right out the window, and a story still can make sense. Farfetched scenarios are part of fiction. We all know that. However, all of that can be true and a story also make sense. This story did not make sense to me from the start and even though I listened to it from start to finish and "read" about 65% of it, the amount of times I stopped and started again was too high. That first 30% slammed me hard and I just didn’t get over it. *shrug*

I’m not going to stop diving headfirst into an SL Scott story just because this one went horribly wrong, but I will say that if you are a first time reader of Scott and you happen to be reading this review, start on another book. You’ll thank me later!

🎧Even though my frustration was super high, Vanessa Edwin & Jason Clarke’s performance of Autumn and Brandon “talked” me off the ledge every single time. I will admit it; there was no way I would have finished this book had it not been for these two narrators. They perfectly embodied each of the characters and all the nuances that came with them. It has always been a pleasure to have either one of them in my ears and this was no exception!

Unfortunately, this story barely rates a 2 star, but the audiobook is 5 solid stars! Overall, I’m giving it a 3 star rating as a unit (story & audio) for the purposes of vendor rating who don’t allow separate format rating. (You know who you are. STOP THAT! lol)

4.5⭐️ 2🌶 5🎧

This was such a sweet fall read. Brandon and Autumn have a history that slowly unfolds all while Brandon is trying to recover from amnesia and Autum is his nurse. The forced proximity works beautifully. Autumn and Brandon have great chemistry with a smidgen of tension in the beginning. I loved that Brandon even without his memory fell for Autumn all over again. Watching them fall in love was so heartwarming.

I adored the setting and the cast of characters. I cant wait to come back to this group. S.L. Scott has a beautiful way with words. I love the feelings she evoked.

This audiobook is in dual narration by Jason Clark and Vanessa Edwin. They did a beautiful job of putting me in my feelings. They both emote so well it makes it easy. They gave this story life and made it easy to fall in love with the story.

Thank you to S.L. Scott and Luna Literary for this ARC and ALC. These are my honest opinions and feelings.

It all starts with most eligible bachelor in four counties falling in love with his nurse. I absolutely loved Yours Truly, Fall by S.L. Scott; it is an incredible small-town forced enemies to lovers/proximity/second chance at first love story. S.L. Scott is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors to read and has once again shown that she is an amazing storyteller. I love that she continues to write the books that I love to read and is a must-read author for me. I was hooked on the first few pages, it was impossible to put Yours Truly, Fall down, it filled me with a rollercoaster of emotions, and I loved every moment on every page. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another? Yours Truly, Fall is the story of Autumn Season, nurse and Brandon Culver, Mountain Laurel Cove firefighter. The prologue begins the story twelve years prior to current day, and is told from the perspective of Autumn’s mother, Faith and how Faith gives Autumn her lucky blackbird token. Brandon was injured when rescuing a family dog from a fire. He ends up on the same floor where Autumn is a nurse. Autumn has interacted very little with Brandon, since that fateful night ten years ago. I love Autumn and Brandon’s initial interactions, and how Brandon has amnesia and has not memories of Autumn even though they went to high school together. Brandon is discharged from the hospital, and Autumn is assigned to provide live-in home health care to him to help him recover from his injuries. Brandon invites Autumn to stay in an extra bedroom in case he needed her overnight. As Brandon and Autumn spend time together things quickly heat up between the two of theat. Autumn does not inform Brandon what happened between them ten years ago while they were in high school. One of my favorite parts are the nicknames they call one another, Brandon calls Autumn, “Nurse” and Autumn calls Brandon, “lieutenant” his job title. I love the chemistry and the conversation between Brandon and Autumn which flows so easily, with innuendos and banter, with dirty talking Brandon who constantly flirts with Autumn. I loved the heart-to-heart conversation between Autumn and Brandon, especially when Autumn tells Brandon what happened between them ten years ago, and how Brandon told Autumn that that is not what happened, which she would have known had she stayed at the party. Another favorite part is that Brandon was able to solve the CS#7 tree carving mystery and how he took Autumn to the high school to show her the football jersey that belonged to her father, Charlie. Brandon removed a brass key from the display at Autumn's request, and how they shared their second first kiss. They keep their new relationship a secret. I love all the small things that Brandon does for Autumn, especially when he buys her English Pear & Freesia perfume that was running low on her dresser, and the significance of the perfume. I love all the changes that Autumn and Brandon are willing to make in their lives to have a life with each other, and the support that Autumn gives to Brandon and his promotion to captain. Another favorite part is how Autumn emails Brandon to meet her under the bleachers, where their relationship originally began, and how he asks Autumn for a redo when he remembers everything about her. Some of the moments that Brandon remembers are truly heartbreaking. My favorite part is Brandon’s proposal to Autumn, the location of the proposal, and what they are wearing. Another one of my favorite parts of the story is the epilogue that is told from both Brandon’s perspective, which details their wedding day. It is the perfect ending of their love story. I loved it! I also loved the bonus epilogue told from Brandon’s perspective and how Winter thinks she knows what the brass key means, I cannot wait to find out the details. I love the relationships between Autumn, her sisters, and Dolly. I love the descriptions of Mountain Laurel Cove. Another favorite part is how S.L. Scott incorporated the title of the book into the love story, with the closing of an email from Autumn to Brandon. I really enjoy how the book is told from the first-person perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Yours Truly, Fall is enemies to lovers/forced proximity/second chance love story is filled with all those things that I have come to love and expect in an S.L. Scott love story, especially the heartbreaking, heartwarming, poignant, and bittersweet moments as well as the plot twists and surprises that filled this page turner. I especially love those moments that made me laugh. I love how S.L. Scott always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Yours Truly, Fall, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed all the interactions between the Season sisters: Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring; it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I especially love how Autumn’s sisters call her “Fall.” I loved all the characters in Yours Truly, Fall. I thoroughly enjoyed Yours Truly, Fall. I am looking forward to reading Winter’s love story next! Highly recommend this incredible love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.

This was not what I was expecting after reading her sister's book!

Autumn is a nurse at the local hospital, and the last person she expected to find when coming back from a couple of days off in her ward is Brandon. They've had an interesting relationship over the years, with the last ten years being most contentious on Autumn's part. Other than not remembering the accident fully, the doctors don't see anything else wrong with him, but Autumn does - he doesn't remember her at all. This gives them a chance to basically start over, especially when Brandon needs help at home, and Autumn needs a break from a doctor at the hospital. Things go well for Autumn and Brandon during their week together, but what happens when Autumn tells him the truth about their past?

Brandon and Autumn get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.

These two! I feel the selective amnesia was a blessing for them and gave them both a chance to get to know the adult versions of themselves versus the teenagers they were when everything went down. It must have also been hard for Autumn to have that happen so close after losing her parents and to feel like she didn't have someone to turn to to talk about it. I do have to wonder what would have happened if they had talked about it as teenagers and if they would have made it, or if they would have fizzled out in college. I do love the mystery that is traveling through the books to learn more about their parents and their parents' love story, and I can't wait to see what they uncover next!

I received an advance review copy from The Author Agency, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wonderful story
I love a second chance story, then add in forced proximity plus a falling out many years ago and this was a story I knew I had to read.
It’s set in Mountain Laurel Cove and follows firefighter Brandon and nurse Autumn (also known as Fall) as they navigate being forced to be in close proximity with each other.
After a bad work injury firefighter Brandon meets the most gorgeous nurse, Autumn when he wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of ever knowing her.
Then drama at the hospital has Autumn being made to stay with Brandon as his live in nurse.
Putting behind her dislike for him and starting afresh has Autumn really seeing the true Brandon and the feelings they both have for each other.
Will he ever remember what they meant to each other before their downfall?
This was a gorgeous story of a young man that fell for a young Fall then lost her, not ever really getting over her.
Falling for her again is easy, can he keep her this time though?
A romance full of fun times, a bit of drama, some steamy scenes and a gorgeous couple that were meant to reunite and have their happy ending.
Such a delightful story with loveable characters plus a hint of the next book to come, featuring Winter.
I had the absolute pleasure of listening to the audiobook of Yours Truly, Fall.
Oh my, Jason Clarke’s voice is just pure perfection and paired with Vanessa Edwin plus featuring Ava Erickson this audiobook was something special.
I enjoyed every single minute of listening to it.
Thank you S.L. Scott and Luna Literary for the opportunity of listen to this lovely romance.

I received a gifted ALC/ARC of this novel via the author and I am voluntarily writing this review. YOURS TRULY, FALL is the second book in THE SEASON SISTERS series by S. L. Scott. Autumn Season provides home nursing care for injured firefighter, Brandon Culver. Despite hating him since he betrayed her at sixteen, she falls for his steady dependability and charm. This is a spicy, open door, first person, dual POV, contemporary romance with tropes that include Firefighter/Nurse, Workplace Romance, Second Chance, Small Town, Close Proximity, and He Falls First. This author consistently delivers stories that I love to read. This is a really sweet second chance romance with two people with a history and a chance for a fresh start. Autumn had spent so much time resenting Brandon that she never noticed what an attractive, kind, trustworthy, and charming man he was. When her job required that she care for him, she had no choice but to remain in his proximity, which required her to truly interact with him. The author also threw in a twist that made it even more complicated. The narrators, Vanessa Edwin, Jason Clarke, and Ava Erickson created an audiobook I could listen to all over again.Jason Clarke always delivers an amazing performance and Vanessa Edwin delivered the perfect Fall. The Season family played a smaller role in Autumn’s love story, but their appearances always added more heart to a heartwarming romance. I recommend this novel for readers/listeners who enjoy a small town workplace romance. (4.5 rounded to 5 stars where necessary.)

I LOVED Yours Truly, Fall by SL Scott! ❤️
Brandon Culver is the local firefighter who is handsomely hot, loves his quiet life on the mountain, and can’t understand why Autumn is not happy with him. After being injured during a fire, he heads home with the assistance of a nurse. Autumn Season—the hometown girl who went to school with him and has always known him, even though he doesn’t remember her. When she’s hired to help him with his recovery, their story begins again.
My heart hurts for both of them as they navigate his memory loss and the heartbreaking possibility that it might not return. Their journey is emotional, heartfelt, and beautifully written.
I love how this author writes meaningful, sexy, spicy stories with characters who always have each other’s backs. The family dynamic and emotional connection between these two made this one especially special.
And ladies…🔥🔥🔥 The chemistry is HOT, and the spicy scenes are VERY spicy! Definitely a story that pulled at my heartstrings while keeping me turning the pages.
Now, let’s discuss the audiobook! Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin narrate Yours Truly, Fall. Oh wow, do these two bring their “A” game to this audiobook. Jason Clarke has one of the s*xiest voices EVER!! Vanessa Edwin has a beautiful serene voice and her performance is just as amazing as her counterpart! These two narrators make a great duo. I truly could hear the passion and emotion they brought to Brandon and Autumn’s characters.❤️

I did the audiobook for this book, narrated by Jason Clarke (his voice is so dreamy), Vanessa Edwin and Ava Erickson (multi cast narration).

at the beginning of the book, I was a little confused. then it all came together. the voice actors were amazing, their voices blending well together and I felt the chemistry between the leads.

This is a small-town romance/ enemy to lovers. Deep down I would say second chance as well. This author is new to me and so happy I came across her.
I loved how Brandon (MMC) and Autumn (FMC) come together even after a misunderstanding when they were younger, they get a second chance. Brandon gets in an accident, and Autumn ends up being his nurse. She realizes that he has forgotten all about her and I loved how Brandon is so attracted to her even though he forgot about her.

When she takes care of him at her home they are always flirting and that's were our second chance at love starts to build up. they were able to talk about what happened in high school and finally clear up the misunderstanding.

The ending was in Brandons POV and let me tell you that it hit me hard, I wanted to cry because their love story was so beautiful.

I'm so in love with strong FML and let me tell you Autumn is on strong woman. I highly recommend listing to the audio book while reading the book it feels more magical

I listened to the audiobook and absolutely loved every minute of it. This book had me smiling from the very beginning, and that smile never left my face.

The amnesia trope is often hit or miss for me, but here it was used beautifully as a catalyst for healing, forgiveness, and second chances. Watching Autumn finally let go of the anger she'd carried toward Brandon was emotional, satisfying, and completely believable.

There was so much to love about this story: the humor, the heart, the romance, and the way forgiveness was woven throughout the entire journey. The banter made me laugh, the tender moments made me swoon, and the emotional growth of the characters made me cheer for them every step of the way.

As someone who is often critical of second-chance romances, this one worked despite the fact that it does fall victim to my primaryreason for disliking this trope (a conversation would havesaved years of heartache and anger). He forgot the past and she decided to let it go, seeing this as a new start and possibly a chance to find herself again.

Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin delivered fantastic performances, bringing both the humor and emotion to life. Their narration added another layer of warmth and charm to an already wonderful story.

🍂 Yours Truly, Fall — S.L. Scott

I really enjoyed this one! 🥹 Autumn had so much anger and resentment toward Brandon because of their past, and honestly, I loved watching that slowly fade. Her heart melted so fast, and I was completely here for it. ❤️

Brandon was such a sweet hero — caring, protective, and so easy to root for. I really enjoyed watching them find their way back to each other, especially with all the history between them.

I’m not usually a huge fan of amnesia in romances, so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about that part, but it actually worked pretty well for this story and didn’t bother me as much as I expected.

Overall, this was such a cozy, emotional fall romance that gave me exactly the kind of warm feelings I was hoping for. 🍁🥰

Thank you so much to S.L. Scott and The Author Agency for the opportunity to read Yours Truly, Fall as an ARC. 🤎🍂

So grateful to have been trusted with Autumn & Brandon’s story early! 🫶🏻

🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧

Why has it been so long since I've read an S.L. Scott book? I love her writing and it's been too long!

I listened to this story narrated by Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin. Jason Clarke can read me anything and I am there for it! Vanessa Edwin did a great job also. Their voices really drew me into the story and made the characters real.

Autumn and Brandon's story is a second chance romance. They were kids when things went wrong and Autumn has held it against Brandon ever since. When she is tasked with his care after an accident, she sees the man he has become.

I really liked this story. Brandon and Autumn were cute. I loved that S.L. Scott was writing another amnesia story since I LOVED Saving Grace. This didn't hit quite as much as that one did, but I did really enjoy it. Brandon is perfection! I can't wait for the next sister's story!

This was disappointing. I thought it would have all of the cute fall small town vibes and while it did have that, it was also all over the place. I love the idea that it was a story about 4 sisters named after the Seasons with the last name Season. Autumn/Fall is my favorite season but she wasn't my favorite FMC. She had promise but I felt like her character didn't make sense. She would swing widely between being smart and being immature. What do you mean she stopped speaking to her childhood love for 10+ years because of a misunderstanding? And what do you mean than man then gets selective amnesia and forgets only her and his accident? Brandon was no better of a MMC. He went from being super attracted to her to thinking she's disturbed for showing up at his house as his home health aide. I know he had a concussion, but he made no sense.

Quotes I enjoyed:

“Making love is just that, you’re creating it, making it, sharing it, feeling it. It can be fun, it’s about loving someone with everything you are.”

“It doesn’t matter what we’ve been through, cause we went through it together. She’s always been my person, I will always be hers.”

“Reach for the stars and hold out for both.”

Thank you to the author and Luna Literacy for the gifted copy.

Looking for a sweet Fall romance? Found one and it was so good and kept me hooked the whole time!

I am so excited to be back in Mountain Laurel Cove, with the Season sisters. Brandon, a firefighter injured on a call; Autumn, a nurse assigned to help in recover. Autumn and Brandon have known each other since childhood, and she has been hurt by him before. Now, with a case of amnesia, Brandon can’t remember who Autumn is; now she has a choice to make.

I love a sweet second chance and this one delivers. Brandon and Autumn are so good together. They are both so easy to relate to and root for. How they worked their way back to each other was swoony. Brandon and his protective side is so perfect.

I love the little mystery that the sisters are trying to solve, and the ending sets you up for the next book.

This is book two about the four Season sisters. I can’t wait for the next sister to have her HEA.

Listened on audio.
Narrated by Jason Clarke, Vanessa Edwin and Ava Erickson. I love the multi cast narration with some of my favorite authors. They did such an amazing job.

Cute story. A little bit odd when you get the story of why Autumn has been mad at Brandon for 10 years. Can you blame it on a 16 year old girl's thought processes? Sure. Would a 16 year old boy have tried to explain & smooth over that misunderstanding? One would think so.

Grown ups now, Brandon is a firefighter and Autumn is a nurse. The other part of the story that was a little too fragmented was between Autumn and Dr Ludlow. No real backstory and it was just a tiny little thing and then suddenly Autumn wins her complaint to HR that I'm pretty sure we never heard about until she won.

But, it's still a cute-ish story with virtually no drama, a little temporary amnesia, and some forced proximity.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has secrets, and sweet romance.

This is Autumn and Brandon’s story. He was hurt and she is his nurse. When he gets hurt, he has trouble remembering things. She can see it as he does not remember her at all and they know each other. She is assigned to take care of him and fall into a friendship of sorts. Can he remember what happened in the past and move forward? Or will they always have that between them? While healing they are falling for each other, but the hurts of the past are still there for her. Can she let go?

I recommend this book.

Vanessa Edwin, Jason Clarke, and Ava Erickson really brought the story to life. The chemistry and banter were so much fun to listen to, and they handled the more emotional moments just as well. 🎧

I was hoping for the perfect "Hallmark-esque" fall romance to ease my frustration after my last book but this was just too cheesy. What a terrible terrible employee Fall was. I liked the premise. But the whole book was based on a miscommunication (one of my least favorite tropes and so annoying) plus she's supposed to be on the clock for a short 7 days and she can't even make it that far without sleeping with him? C'mon FALL. Step it up if you want to be as professional as you claim.

This is a story of community, life and love along with a few detours. I enjoyed this book. It is light on angst even tho the situations written about fall into angsty realms and I appreciate that. I was looking for a good light story. This was perfect.

Second chance swoons

He couldn’t remember her and she couldn’t forget. It seems like a recipe for disaster but it’s literally a chance for a do-over. Sweet and sexy and altogether emotionally satisfying.

cute!

Sweet story! Loved as he was gaining his memories. It was the most climactic parts of the book. Brandon was so cute and sweet through all this book!
