I was absolutely delighted to read Failed Manipulation. I honestly don’t understand why there are so few reviews for this gem. It’s a beautifully written short story that had me hooked from the very first page—I ended up finishing it in a single sitting!
The story follows a successful female protagonist who earns more than her husband. Over their three-year marriage, his jealousy slowly erodes her self-confidence. But the turning point, where she finally stands up for herself and takes control of her life, is incredibly empowering.
What makes this book so special is the romance that unfolds with the CEO of her company. It doesn't feel exaggerated or overly dramatic; instead, it feels remarkably grounded, gentle, and genuine.
One quote in particular stayed with me:
"He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "They also know I'm in love with you." Sony's breath caught. The confession landed in her chest like something warm being set down carefully. "You've told them that." "Sony, I've told the mailman that.""
This scene perfectly captures the heartwarming and sincere tone of their relationship. If you're looking for a quick, touching read about finding self-worth, empowerment, and sweet, genuine love, I highly recommend giving this book a try.
