Julie wakes up expecting to find it on her bedside table, but it's not there. Maybe it's lying on top of the other pillow? Nope. Did it fall on the floor? Not there either. Oh well, it doesn't matter anyway. Does it?
Amanda Linehan is a fiction writer, indie publisher and INFP. She has published three novels and a couple handfuls of short stories. Her short fiction has been featured on Every Day Fiction.
She lives in Maryland, likes to be outside and writes with her cat sleeping on the floor beside her desk.
This short story could have been so much more but the author failed to close the story. It started out rather strong but it was all downhill from there. Too bad. Opportunity missed... by the author.
Good job this was a free book. Though to be honest it wasn't even a chapter in a book let alone a full book. I think the author gave it a very appropriate title ' The Note' as that's really all it could be described as and had no depth to it whatsoever. She looked for the note and couldn't find it. He left a note but the cat got to it first blah blah blah. The end.
The author's fresh and funny style is still there, but this short story feels pointless, lacking focus and a proper conclusion. Yes, you should read Amanda Linehan's stories and novels, just don't start from here.
Something I was never enitrely sure about was whether this woman took random men home often. By the way she talked about notes being left, it seemed like she'd done this at least a few times before. I do find it entertaining that she typically doesn't like getting the notes, but the one time she doesn't get one, she desperately wants to find it. What actually happened to the note was really cute, though I'm bummed she never followed up on it. Then again, it's possible she does after the story ends. It's also possible she prefers her encounters to be one-nighters and never intended to follow up. Either way, I loved the cat in the story and her interactions with it.
What did I just read? Glad this was free as it was awful. She had one night stand and was expecting a note after he left in morning, now I've had few one night stands but never expected a note.
