Lifelong friendships will lead people to do things that they might never have imagined themselves doing. Grace and Effie, Amelia's best friends, are worried about her after receiving Amelia's desperate letter describing what has happened with her marriage Hugh Jordon. Effie is prepared to head west to help out Amelia, and she encourages Grace to accompany her. Grace is a bit more reserved than Effie and worries that her mother will send a Pinkerton agent to bring her back home if she tries to travel to Washington Territory. Grace changes her mind, though, when she is forced to endure the attentions of Horace Remington and becomes engaged to him. Effie and Grace think they have the perfect plan, complete with disguises and assumed names, but they are no match for Jonah Blackthorn, the Pinkerton agent hired to bring Grace home. The girls are nothing if not resourceful, and lead Jonah on a merry chase which ultimately ends in Seattle at the Jordon home. Jonah is not the only one hired to find Grace, so there's a bit of intrigue there, too. The next book, which I'm guessing will be about Effie, should be as entertaining as this one!
