Cindra Corrina has spent two years in the Daerbrik Fighting School, training in the combat style of armored knights. She has proven herself to her classmates and her teachers, and has gained confidence she never imagined. But all of her achievements are based on a lie; the lie that she is a young man named Dillan DePort. Now her deception is catching up to her, and the arrival of her Royal Cousin and his new army have brought imminent civil war to her doorstep. Cindra must now face her greatest enemy yet: the politics and culture in which she was raised. While Cindra faces the consequences of her actions, and the Dissenter Houses finalize their treasonous plans, the forces of chaos move the Dark Heart closer to its final, chosen victim.
Mark Rude is an author and artist living in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. In 2005 he created a short-lived comic book series called 'Passage', which evolved into the fantasy novel series 'The Cindra Corrina Chronicles' for which Mark does the cover and interior illustrations. His first novel, ‘The Gold Cat’s Daughter’, was published in 2011. His character illustrations have appeared in Kim Harrison’s 'The Hollows Insider' published by HarperCollins in 2011. In 2013 Mark wrote an urban fantasy satire story about a demon-possessed duck. This silly little book often overshadows the series he has spent so much time and effort on, and is simultaneously a source of appreciation and frustration. ‘Devon, the Demon Duck from Hell’ started when author Kim Harrison told him, possibly tongue-in-cheek, that "demon duckies are going to be the next big thing." As I said in my other reviews, I've greatly enjoyed the entire Cindra/Gold Cat series. This book is the fourth in the series and it gives even more character development (and entertainment). I love the plotline regarding Cindra being in disguise. Five stars because, like all of Mark Rude's books, this one tells a great story, is well written, and just plain fun to read.
