I have the updated 2021 version of this book and thoroughly enjoyed reading it with my 6th grader. The pictures are the same beautiful quality I've come to expect. In addition to the chronological history I really enjoy the lessons on famous Americans and on beautiful places throughout the country.
This is a fantastic resource for teaching history to young Christians, when used with other sources. It is saturated in Scripture, full of suggestions for extra assignments, and dedicated to teaching American history in a way that is true and brings glory to God. There are lessons about significant locations, people, and lifestyles from history.
It is especially good for families, and includes a family activity for each chapter!
Occasionally there are errors, and occasionally details are left out that I felt really should be included. One thing that bothered me was the heroic portrayal of Marcus and Narcissa Whitman. They did start out well, but by the end they were very poor ambassadors for Christ. I was talking to a fellow teacher about how inspired I had been after reading their story, and she winced and told me the details that had been left out. I did much research because I didn’t want it to be true! But alas. The next day I was sure to inform my students of this, as I didn’t want them to find out in a way that would cause disillusionment or deep disappointment in their souls.
I would recommend this to an anyone as a source for teaching history, though I would advise reading other sources as you go. :)
