Second Verse #1

First Verse

Rate this book
From the moment Kinsey Brock walks in on Emmett Hudson in the shower, she knows he’s going to be trouble. He’s sex with a Southern accent and a guitar, and he makes her heart go from zero to sixty just by darting his intense moss green eyes in her direction. But he’s also the grandson of the woman who took Kinsey in when she had no one else—and that means he’s off-limits.

Too bad for Kinsey that word isn’t in Emmett’s vocabulary.

But want, need, and more sure as hell are.

**NOTE: Set eight years before the standalone novel SECOND VERSE (Coming July 2015), this prequel novella tells the story of Kinsey and Emmett’s first moments together. Both stories are intended for mature audiences.

Emily Snow is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who loves angst, hot alphaholes, and enemies-to-lovers, so naturally, she writes stories about all three.

Damn but this was a good teaser. Emily Snow did a great job with this prequel by giving us enough to whet the appetite and hunger for more.

I liked the instantaneous connection and chemistry between Emmett and Kinsey. It was both hot and sweet. The fact that they have a mutual talent and love for music was an awesome bonus.

The foster care system needs more people like Mrs. Hudson. I'm just saying.

Hazel (Emmett's sister) better get her comeuppance in Second Verse. What she did (and the consequences to her actions) made her evil.

I'm still waiting to read book 2 and with the amount of times it's been delayed, I doubt I'll get my hands on it any time soon. Release the book already!!

Enjoy! xo

So this novella was really, really good. It reminded me of how much I love Emily Snow. I would say that I am super excited to read Second Verse BUT I am aware of Ms. Snow's reputation for not having books come out on time. So instead of being super excited I will be hopefully optimistic. But, IF the next book comes on out time let's just say I will buy it the day it comes out. I can't wait to read more of Emmett and see how he reacts to "the news"!! But, only time will tell...

Kinsey’s had a hard time of it, but she’s finally living with a great foster mom who really cares for her. Then her foster mom’s grandson shows up. Emmett’s supposed to check on Kinsey, make sure she’s not scamming his grandmother. Romance happens, as well as the setup for another book.

description
- Liked Kinsey : Kinsey’s history, her struggles, her friendship with Lyra, all of that made me like and root for her. She’s a very young heroine, just turned 18, but I thought she handled herself as best she could in a bad situation.

- Emmett? Not so much : Emmett had potential, but when the time came for him to step up, he didn’t. He’d need to do a massive grovel to get back in my good books. Like, on an epic scale, so I only hope the next book really does that.

- His sister is the WORST : She needs something horribly, horribly bad to happen to her to justify her actions. A horrible case of diarrhea at the very least. She is a see you next tuesday on every level and if she doesn’t pay or have a big turnaround, it will be a letdown.

- Cliffhanger : So, these are not my favorites, but I knew going in that this novella was strictly to set up the events in the next book. It made it easier to read and accept the cliffy at the end. It sets up the feelings between Emmett and Kinsey and even makes me understand why certain plot points (especially a big personal one) are going to happen in the main story. It’s a very quick read, so it’s not a big time investment. I just don’t know if I want Kinsey with Emmett because of what happens here, so really it’s going to be an uphill climb for him.

It’s not a bad start, but it’s only the prologue to the full story. The way the heroine was hung out to dry makes it hard for me to want a HEA for the hero. I liked Kinsey, though so I’d read the next one. Probably….eventually.

Loved both Emmett and Kinsey and can't wait to find out what happens next. The ending was definitely an Oh My Heck kind of ending. As with all of Emily Snow's books, I loved all the characters including the mean and nasty characters like Hazel, Emmett's sister, they add the perfect amount of angst motivation to the story.
throughout this prequel novella there is a full range of emotions and you get all the feels that definitely makes you want to read Second Verse and dive into the full story of Emmett and Hazel.
D */5 (no rating) only because you have to read the next instalment to get the whole picture and therefore I in my opinion this is part of the next one and I will read and rate it as one story.

I'd just like to start by thanking Emily for writing this amazing novella which is free on most platforms.

I absolutely devoured this novella in one sitting I simply couldn't get through this book quick enough, it was so well written you'll find yourself so engrossed in it, if you are anything like me, you'll turn the page and reach the words .... To be continued and you will scream at your kindle.

I totally wasn't expecting what unravelled in this book, I dont want to go into great detail because it will spoil it for the reader. What I will say is that this book will leave you wanting....

McKinsey is a person with a good heart and was easily misguided by loved ones and left to fend for herself when she needed them most. Until someone took a chance on her and gave her the life she craved, someone to care about her.... is she willing to risk that for Mr Southern with Moss Green eyes? Temptation is a wicked thing ;)

I can guarantee you wont be disappointed if you one-click this book.

Great work Emily can't wait to read more now.

I am so impressed with this prequel novella! Emily Snow has always done a great job at writing angst. Her characters are ridden with it for various reasons. They love hard, fall hard, and always find a way to live with their pain. She tells phenomenal stories. First Verse is just as amazing as the other books of hers I've read.

Kinsey stole my heart from the very first page. I felt her uncertainty, pain, and worry about her current situation. I felt so bad she was being judged by others for her circumstances in a bad way. However I really liked her spirit and her response to the haters. She was honorable and determined to do the right thing. I liked Emmett too. I thought he was bad news at first, but as it turns out, he wasn't. I loved how he took care of his grandmother and I loved how he cared for Kinsey.

I loved the chemistry Emmett and Kinsey had. It felt effortless and electric. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book, and not just because I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, but because of how hot they were together. I got so caught up in what was happening between them I completely forgot a separation was coming. That's a testament to the writing and story. This novella had so much packed into it, I felt like I was reading a full length novella.

I may or may not have yelled, "No!" at the end of this book and tried to click to the next page when there wasn't one. All I can say is, the sooner I have my hands on Second Verse, the better I'll be. Emily Snow has done it once again. In 70 pages she wrecked me. I'm looking forward to seeing how she puts me back together again.

I enjoyed this novella as a prologue to the Second Verse. It did what it was designed to do, which is get me excited about the follow up. But...

It seems that Second Verse isn't coming out anytime soon, which is very disappointing. It has already had two missed release dates, and incredibly limited information from the author about why it hasn't come out, and when it is actually going to come out.

I'm sure that Emily Snow is a lovely person, and has a busy life. I hope that she realizes that when she gives us a release date for a book, that she is creating an expectation for her fans. Then when the book isn't released on the stated date, it is disappointing. The biggest problem is the lack of follow up, and the management of those created expectations. Despite numerous questions about a new release date, she has not followed with any new information. And since it isn't available for pre-order (my guess is Amazon won't allow it after the debacle with Consumed taking a year to come out after its original release date), those of us that would like to read Second Verse, will keep checking for its release, and then continue to be disappointed. I don't know if this is designed as a ploy of some type to drive sales, or if there is some other reason that the release date wasn't met, again a little communication from the author would go a long way.

Personally I would prefer to wait a longer period of time, and get a specific date that will be met, then have a teaser date that just leaves me frustrated and disappointed.

This was a fast read. I loved how the main characters fall in love with each other. I hope that that actual book Second Verse will be more of a thrilling love story. They have great chemistry. Can't wait for Second Verse the novel to come out!

This was more of a novella than an actual full length book which was really very frustrating. Overall storyline and writing was good. I just wish there was more to it in both length and plot development.

Ok so I'm a bit unhappy that I picked this book up thinking that the 2nd was already realeased.. Bc it was supposed to be released in July and it is now September... and now i'm left with a cliffhanger and no second book.... bummer

The more im thinking about the book the more meh im becoming on it. I left the book on a man I want to read the 2nd now! Find out what happens, but now since I can't read the 2nd book im left here thinking about this one and the initial quick high i was riding is collapsing.

First Verse is the prequel story of how Kinsey and Emmett first met and got to know each other before their story begins in Second Verse. Having just graduated from high school, Kinsey is about to officially embark on her adult life but doesn't have a lot of close friends or family. She's had some mishaps occur in the past as a direct result of other's wrongdoing but Kinsey doesn't let those things set her back from her goals. Mrs. Hudson is her aging foster mom who has a great relationship with Kinsey and now Mrs. Hudson's rising star and country singer grandson, Emmett, is visiting. Emmett is pretty sexy and seductive right from the very beginning when he first sets his eyes on Kinsey and although she tries to stay away from him, he won't stay away from her. I really loved both of them, Kinsey always followed the moral path and avoided trouble at all costs, but trouble seems to find her. In this story, that trouble comes in the form of Emmett's sister Hazel and Kinsey winds up in a situation that changes everything. I was definitely disappointed with Emmett although I know there's more to it than what I read from Kinsey's POV. I am anxious to see what he will do to gain her favor again because he's going to need to work overtime for it, especially now that there's another factor to consider. Looking forward to Second Verse!

First Verse by Emily Snow
Kinsey life is a little on the unpredictable side. She has just finished school and is unsure if her foster mother, Mrs H, is going to allow her to stay on. Mrs H, has been the kindest person to her and they have a special bond. When Mrs H grandson, Emmet arrives in all his glory, Kinsey it instantly attracted to him. The feeling seems to be mutual. They share a love of music and Emmet is on his way, to becoming the next famous country singer. He has been sent to his grandmother for a reason and once he meets Kingsley he is instantly taken with her. She is open and honest with him, about her life that has been anything but easy. Their bond grows and you can feel the love they have for one another. When Emmet sister arrives, so does trouble. Can Kinsey survive? Will Emmit fight for her? What happens when he does not acknowledge her circumstances? Ms Snow builds her characters that you will fall in love with them, rooting for them. Her story starts off sweet and lures you in. Then she flips it around, with plenty of angst, building climax and suspense. This one does end of a cliff hanger and I am so one clicking for second verse.
