It’s Louis’ senior year, and he’s dead set on doing it right. However, along with his pair of cleats, a healthy dose of sarcasm and his ridiculous best friend, he’s also got a complicated family, a terrifyingly uncertain future, and a mortal enemy making his life just that much worse. Mortal enemies “with benefits” was not exactly the plan.
Or: The one where Louis and Harry definitely aren’t friends, and football is everything.
This one also counts as an actual book so let’s have it! The first larry fic I’ve ever read and it was great, very enjoyable! Interesting opening scene too...
You know that you're not gonna forget about a fic when it makes you look back at your own life and friendships and kinda rethink everything you've been doing; which in this case, that also eventually led to multiple mental breakdowns and me crying all day. So how could I not add this to my goodreads?
Enemies to lovers, Explicit, high school au, coming of age, football is everything fr in this one.
this fanfiction made me realize how much i love the enemies to lovers trope! such an amazing story, i’ll definitely reread it at some point. there was so many cute scenes but my favourite one was when someone called harry princess and louis defended him, my heart exploded! it was such a cute fic
*Keep in mind, this is rated differently than how I rate real books, as it's fanfiction*
This is one of the first fanfictions I've ever read and I was not disappointed. I was actually pleasantly surprised by how good the writing was.
The characters were complex and had real substance, along with the plot. It wasn't super out there, but it kept me engaged and rooting for them the entire time.
I don't have too much to say about it, but if you don't mind a lot of smut and you're looking for a good, iconic larry fanfiction, this is for you.
I know I know, it's a very reductive way to put it but bruh it's true. Without taking the credit away from the plot, characters, pace and the setting - this is literally all you need to know to take a deep dive into the book: co-captains, hate-to-love, football, school, family.
This one's definitely better than Young and Beautiful.
listen, i feel wrong criticising fic writers because really they’re just sharing their work free of charge, as something they love and are now allowing others to love. however, i do not understand this one and never will. do i love the brilliant inside jokes it brought to the fandom? definitely. but do i also think it’s the epitome of the ‘wattpad fanfic’? also definitely. i don’t regret reading it completely - it’s always great to look back on and laugh or just appreciate the absurdity of it.
for a first fic of someone’s, maybe this can be considered good? but honestly, do yourself a favour and skip this one all together if you want something that may resemble, or in some cases even surpass, published novels. which i’ve found is actually the case for quite a few larry fics i’ve read - not this one. i feel like i’m on acid when i read it because the characters are so undeveloped and nothing more than archetypes of the typical highschool tropes. the smut often didn’t have a purpose that contributed to their overall story and relationship, and the writing style.. yeah. i think i’ll just leave it there because this evidently is an unpopular opinion. i just think it’s definitely one of those fics that only contributes to fanfic’s bad name and reputation.
I really related with the main character, I have his temper and personality and I tend to do his exact actions when we're under the same circunstances. Plus I was in the closet like him but in the deep we both knew we were soooo gay.
This was so fucking cute but at the same time passionate, I found myself more thrilled than expected with the football matches and how the author really makes u think about some things like family or even falling in love.
Note: I will never listen Candy Shop in the same way ever again
Ahhhh unbelievers. What an absolute classic. Came back to look at reviews for fun because my friend is currently reading it and I miss it. This book is absolute gold(lol get it). Literally though, it is such a good book and I would recommend it to anyone, Larry fan or not. The book has a lot of complex themes, but still finds ways to keep it light hearted and fun. They also are just normal people with normal problems, not traumatized tremendously like some other fics and it’s a nice relief. It’s funny, somewhat relatable, spicy, and fills your heart with warm and cozy Larry love. Of course it isn’t perfect, like any book. I would say it is definitely still a fan fiction so there is not perfect grammar or organization, but it isn’t bad. The only other complaint I have is how it ends. It was pretty unsatisfying for me, but not terrible I guess. I just decided to envision my own ending in order to make myself feel better so I’m gonna summarize it down below for fun so here we go. Oh also in case you didn’t get it, I would give this book at 100/10 and highly reccomend reading it. Anyways, this is more for me than anyone else so feel free to click away.
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT:
So I envision Harry and Louis much older in their late twenties, having graduated from Manchester together and having stayed together for the majority of it. I’m sure there’d be rocky points, but i’m also sure they would overcome them. They would build a life together, make friends together, live together, and love each other endlessly. But now they have graduated from college and are on a successful, professional team together. They are married and you can see Liam standing on the sidelines of the current game going on with their two little kids cheering them on. They win the game and celebrate with new friends and old, and with their kids who really have no idea what’s going on. They’ve made history on their team being the first men openly together and being some of the highest scorers in history. They’re gonna spend the rest of their lives together, happy forever.
Much more satisfying to me, but everyone’s different so who knows.
