Serial killers commit the most shocking and nerve chilling acts of crime. Always on the prowl looking for their next victim, the killers go on a rampage never totally satisfied with the brutal deeds they commit. Charles Ray Hatcher also known as Crazy Charlie is one of the historical serial killers who had committed a host of crimes including auto theft, abduction, and murder.
The psychopath crime wave unleashed by Hatcher created quite a stir during the early part of 1980s. The long list of American serial killers is incomplete without the mention of Charles Ray Hatcher. His murders reek of pedophilia, abduction, violence, murder, and lust.
This book gives the details of the life of this lust killer right from his dysfunctional childhood and petty crimes to the brutal murders and trial. True crime stories give the right insight about the crime, the criminal, and the victim. Most of the serial killers biography tends to border on sensationalism and trashy content. This book seeks to dispel this notion and brings to you the true facts about Charles Ray Hatcher, his trial and an analysis of his psychopathic crimes.
The riveting account of the life of one of the notorious American serial killers strives to enumerate the events in his life as artfully and completely as possible. The narrative also gives the reader a glimpse of the American culture during the period from 1930 to 1984. The true crime story is bound to keep you shocked tremendously with its nerve chilling storyline and give you the right perspective on the serial killer.
I live in one of the most beautiful places in Florida, Jupiter, with my wife, two kids and our golden retriever, Vincent. I've been a full time author for the last 15 years and I wouldn't trade it against anything in the world!
My father was a journalist and wrote about some of the worst crimes you could ever imagine, and that's where my big interest from serial killers and other horrible crimes comes from. Just to hear my father talk about the evil acts of Ted Bundy as we were out fishing as a kid are some of my best memories.
I have read other books by Jack Rosewood, so I don't what went wrong with this one. It was very badly written. The sentence structure and punctuation was horrible. I believe he had the information but failed to present it well.
Charles Ray Hatcher's criminal history was interesting, especially the way law enforcement kept releasing him to kill more people. It was disgraceful how poorly Hatcher's crimes were handled. He would have continued killing had he not confessed to his 16 murders. And then he very cleverly committed suicide by hanging with his hands tied behind him. I would think it would be difficult to tie one's own hands behind one's back, but obviously no one questioned it.
Here are some examples from the book: "Charles had nearly six social security numbers"; "after three years of committing the crime"; "the right part of Churchill's chest near his heart." Am I just being persnickety or do these look wrong to anyone else?
Anyway, I did not read the latter portion of the book where the psychology of serial killers was discussed. I feared it would be as convoluted as the rest of the book. I am not recommending that anyone avoid the book as it does contain an interesting case study. Just be prepared to translate as you read.
This book branches out more than some of my previous reads by Jack Rosewood not so much in the telling of the trail of Hatcher's murders but in the information provided about this type of killer. This series often adds some educational information regarding the psychology or behavioral patterns of known serials. This book on Charles Ray Hatcher has even more of a breakdown of what is known about serials.
Hatcher is convicted of 2 murders, confessed to several others, and is suspected of being connected with yet more. Jack Rosewood touches on the lives of these victims and the pointlessness of their deaths.
This book as with so many other's by Rosewood offers a great what I've come to calling a lunch break read. The reason for this is that they are not so long or complicated that you have to worry if you will lose track of what's going on from one reading to the next. They are well constructed, cleanly organized, and the information is straight forward.
This book covers general facts about serial killers more than the particulars about Crazy Charlie himself. The work also was probably not written by Rosewood himself, as the grammatical flow is that of a non-native English speaker. In fact, the writing style is reminiscent of my many years of business correspondence with Indian nationals. I guess Rosewood's proofreader/editor sat this one out.
if you have enjoy true crime, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. it is extremely well researched. if you have any questions about psychopathy, Mr. Rosewood has the answers. I look forward to reading other true crime books he's written.
Fast, informative and interesting...be careful out there some deranged minds from psychos truly do exist interesting details provided on the case and the unimaginable times of escape is haunting
Horrible grammar, spelling, punctuation, and its missing words in sentences. I couldn't even finish it. It had promise but I couldn't get past all the mistakes.
