4.25 stars. This novella is dual POV, well written, and a fast-paced, funny, sweet and steamy, boss/employee, abducted for her safety, fated mates, contemporary fantasy romantic comedy between Tessa, the female human financial analyst lead, and Chase, the male cougar shifter business owner lead. I enjoyed Tessa’s determination to get free. I was amused at Chase’s refusal to acknowledge why he wanted to keep her with him. I enjoyed Chase’s gradual acceptance of Tessa’s contributions to his life and business. I enjoyed the steamy intimate moments. I enjoyed the non-romance plot resolution.

She wants her freedom. He wants his mate. Someone wants her dead.

Tessa has spent years fighting her attraction to her arrogant boss, so being confined to his home “for her protection” only gives her more reasons to resist. Chase is controlling, territorial, and far too certain she’ll eventually give in. Tessa would rather escape, argue, and prove he doesn’t own her, even while wanting him more than she wants to admit.

Chase knows Tessa is his mate, but claiming a human could threaten his position as alpha. When someone inside his pride starts targeting her, protection becomes something darker and more personal. Danger keeps pulling them closer, blurring the line between possession and devotion, while neither can keep pretending this is only lust.

Tessa refuses to become helpless, and Chase’s need for control clashes with every stubborn inch of her independence. Their power struggle turns intimate, forcing them to face years of frustrated attraction and feelings neither knows how to handle. As pride politics close in, Tessa has to decide whether she can trust what’s growing between them, while Chase has to choose whether loving her matters more than the authority he’s spent his life protecting.

Tessa gradually stops dismissing their bond as circumstance and lets herself choose Chase without surrendering who she is. Chase begins to understand that protection without agency isn’t devotion, and their constant battle for control starts shifting toward trust, vulnerability, and a partnership neither expected. The more they risk for each other, the harder it becomes to deny that this bond is built on choice as much as instinct. ‍

A hot, forced proximity, fated mates, boss-employee, shifter romance filled with possessive attraction, danger, banter, and emotional push-pull. It’s about autonomy, trust, power, and the difference between being claimed and choosing to stay, with a stubborn heroine who won’t break and an alpha who has to learn that love means more than control.

The Elevator Pitch: A stubborn human finds herself trapped under the protection of the arrogant mountain lion alpha she has wanted for years, just as someone within his own pride decides she has become a threat. Their battle for control turns into something far more dangerous when desire, loyalty, and a fated bond force both of them to question what they are willing to surrender for each other. With an unknown enemy closing in, falling in love may require trusting the one person neither of them has ever been able to resist.
