This is an ACE for ISBN13:9781634764063 Nothing in Common

Three sexy lighthearted reads that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

An accident with a cardboard box is the start of a beautiful friendship—with benefits—between newly out Mark and gorgeous removal man Jamie. As Jamie initiates Mark into the joys of gay sex, “nothing serious” might turn into something important to both of them.

Noah’s nothing special. Average height, a bit on the skinny side, and cute but rather geeky, he’s relentlessly ordinary. He certainly doesn’t expect to be noticed by Sol, the gorgeous stranger Noah sees on his commute home most days. Noah’s friend, Dom, has a plan to get Sol’s attention—if Noah is willing to take the risk.

Aiden gets talked into joining a team for the Mad Mucker—a twelve-mile muddy slog over an obstacle course—and Matt agrees to be his training partner. Attraction flares, and they embark on an intense physical relationship. But keeping to their “no strings attached” agreement might prove as much of a challenge as the race.

I don't hang out on Goodreads much, so if you'd like to connect with me then Twitter, Facebook or an email is usually best :) All my contact details are on my website.

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn’t stopped writing since.

Jay writes contemporary romance about men who fall in love with other men. Jay has five books published by Dreamspinner Press, and he also self-publishes under the imprint Jaybird Press. Many of his books are now available as audiobooks.

Jay is transgender and was formerly known as she/her.

This is a group of short stories that are sweet, funny, and low angst. This collection is everything, actually. Each story is a standalone, allowing them to be read in order. What I love about this author is that he can weave a story so well, you feel as if you are a part of it or at least a voyager. The stories draw you in and you can't help but root for these sweet guys to get their happy endings.

Book #1 - Nothing Serious
We meet Mark and Jamie. Mark has finally admitted to himself that he is gay and ends his long-term relationship with his girlfriend. Then Jamie enters into the picture when the moving company he works for is hired to move Mark into his new apartment. This is the beginning of a dance that comes complete with a dropped box of "toys" and a friend with benefits agreement. As they navigate the ups and downs of their new attraction and agree that they might very well end up more than just friends.

Book #2 - Nothing Special
Now we meet Noah and Sol. This one is my favorite out of the group. It's nice to have a cutie appear in the start of a story line. Noah is a bit insecure and confides in his friend about the guy in the London zookeepers' uniform that he’s seen on the train, as he travels to and from work. In a brave move Noah posts an ad in the local paper, to get Sol’s attention...and it works! He certainly gets Sol’s attention. But will getting Sol’s attention be enough or will Noah’s insecurities drive them apart? I was rooting for these two throughout this really sweet story.

Book #3 Nothing Ventured
Our couple in this final offering is Aiden and Matt. Talk about a long road to haul… These two guys work together but are not really friends. They only agree to train together for a charity race that their office is entering called "The Mud Masher" which I thought sounded simply awful. Aiden has been a bit of a couch bunny and needs to train for this race. Enter Matt, who is bi and not exactly "closeted" but doesn't make it openly know, and who reluctantly agrees to help Aiden train. As the training progresses and race day approaches the two guys begin to realize they are not as uninterested in each other, as they and their co-workers thought. The question hangs in the air "will Matt win Aiden’s heart or will they crash and burn?

Each story is complete with sexy times, wonderful banter, and completely delightful characters.

Sweet Nothings!

These three stories are refreshing with the ups and downs of finding love despite miscommunications, misunderstandings, and mental obstacles. Interesting enough MCs, low angst, no surprises. Overall, a good, average read.

NOTHING SERIOUS
Moving guy, Jamie meets Programmer Mark over a dropped box of sexy toys and immediately went for a “friends with benefits” connection that develops into so much more.

NOTHING SPECIAL
Retail Bookseller Noah devises an ingenious and romantic way to meet hottie Zoo Keeper Sol and find his HEA. A simple, low angst, slow-moving romance.

NOTHING VENTURED
Training for an obstacle-course marathon, Adien hooks up in more ways than one with Physical Trainer Matt. I got the camaraderie between the MCs but not so much the love connection.

Engaging, heartwarming and fun

Nothing Serious

Sometimes the best and most-lasting things happen by chance. Jamie and Mark spark from their first unforgettable meeting. I wish my movers looked like Jamie, who makes an excellent teacher, and Mark is quite the attentive student. Their journey to love is full of heat, laughter and tender moments.

Nothing Special

Noah and Sol both are extraordinarily special in my eyes. They have the most romantic meet-cute and dates. I adore how Sol sees Noah and even though it takes a few bumps, I love how Noah grows. This wonderful story put a smile on my face from cover to cover.

Nothing Ventured

This story was my favorite of the collection. Matt and Aiden tugged on my heartstrings and I love how they slowly led each other to love and to open up. They are the exception to every rule and I adore them to pieces.

There are three novellas in this collection so I'm going to write a short review for each of them. Jay Northcote is a great writer. I always enjoy the characters in his work, and I love the way the books are paced! All these books are HEA or HFN - and all the books of Northcote's that I've read are.

Nothing Serious: At the beginning of this story, Mark had just ended his 9-year relationship with his girlfriend, Rachel. He's moving out... because he's finally accepted that he's gay. He had a lovely friendship with Rachel...but that was it. When the movers arrive Mark meets Jaimie. When a box with his butt plugs in it drops on the floor, the flirting begins.

This was a lovely story. Jamie is a bit younger than Mark and has far more experience for obvious reasons. They hook up with the idea of helping Mark discover what he likes... no strings. Things get complex when feelings get involved.

Even though this is a short story, as usual, Northcote's characters are well-developed. Little things are revealed about each character that enables the reader to make a connection. For instance, Jamie is dyslexic and struggles with texts and writing. There are always lovely touches of humanity in Northcote's books - his characters are always really human.

Nothing Special: Noah rides the tube to work and he keeps seeing the same gorgeous man on the commute. He doesn't speak to the man because Noah thinks the man is out of his league, after all, Noah is "Nothing special". It's Noah's friend Dom who finally convinces him to put a crush notice in the Metro paper that the handsome stranger reads.

When he finally exchanges a few words with the stranger, Noah gives Dom the go-ahead to place the ad in the paper, and his life changes. Sol is the name of the exotic stranger and he's definitely interested in Noah.

Lack of confidence is the issue in this story. Noah just doesn't see himself as a catch and I think probably a lot of people can relate to that. He constantly compares himself to Sol and to an ex of Sol's he has seen in a drawing. Lacking confidence means that Noah doesn't think that Sol could possibly want a relationship with him.

Again, there are some fun moments in this book. Sol's little sister provides some comic relief and time for some really sweet and romantic moments between the main characters.

Nothing Ventured: When Aiden goes out for drinks with his friend Liz and they get into the Tequila, he wakes up remembering that he promised to enter a Mad Mucker race (the equivalent of Tough Mudder). Liz's hot cousin, Matt is very fit and Aiden reluctantly agrees to train with him.

Matt has always dated women... but he's had sexual relationships with men. This novella does a pretty good job of exploring the issues that people who are bisexual deal with. Some people are more comfortable having relationships with one gender or the other. Some people find that when they express that they are or may be bisexual... there are preconceived ideas about what that means - and often they're incorrect assumptions. There's a little bit of this in the story but it's corrected quickly. The struggle for Matt is really well written in such a short novella.

There's a bit of push and pull between Aiden and Matt but as usual, Northcote nails the pacing and character development in a way that makes it so easy to identify and love his characters.

Three fantastic books; some of my favorites by Jay.

I loved each of these books when I read them over a year ago and it was fun skimming through them once again now that Jay has published them in one bundle.

Nothing Serious:
Mark and Jamie are really sweet together. Jamie is having fun showing Mark all of the pleasures of a gay relationship. These two really burn up the sheets! I loved how Jamie takes care of Mark, not only while teaching him about gay sex, but also when he comes down with a nasty virus. But Jamie doesn't really do relationships and balks when people close to him keep telling him that he's fallen for Mark. When these two finally start to communicate with one another, nothing serious turns into much more.

Nothing Special:
I LOVED this book. I think I connected with it so much because I could really sympathize with the insecurity that Noah felt about his relationship with Sol. I suppose everyone has had at least some bit of insecurity when it comes to a relationship but Nothing Special just really got to me.

For the most part this was such a sweet story; so sweet that I kept waiting for the thing to happen. This anticipation kept me glued to my ereader until I finished the story. I knew there would be an HEA but still, waiting for the something to break them up caused a bit of anxiety. Not bad anxiety, rather the good kind when you are loving a book but know that something has to happen before you’re rewarded with an HEA. And rewarded I was! Books that bring me to tears are among my favorites and Jay managed to wring more than a few tears out of me while I read this one.

Nothing Ventured:
Matt is helping Aiden train for a 12-mile run. Aiden is attracted to Matt. As they spend more time together Aiden begins to believe that Matt is attracted to him, too even though he supposedly straight. Eventually they give into their mutual desire for each other and begin a no-strings-attached relationship (and boy is it hot!). Neither of them wants anything long-term – or do they?

Wow! I really felt the connection between these two guys. Matt tried hard to fight his feelings for Aiden but a near catastrophic accident during the race finally makes him realize that he can’t let Aiden go.

There are definitely rocky places along the way for Aiden and Matt, and I shed more than a few tears – both happy and sad, but I’m not giving anything away by telling you they do get an HEA and I thought it was pretty wonderful.

In conclusion, The Nothing Collection contains three fantastic stories. It's a great value and a significant cost saving vs. buying the books individually.

A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Jay Northcote does it again. It’s like he has a direct tap into people’s minds and psyche or something. He has a beautiful way of dealing with inner turmoil, insecurities, and varying human emotions and struggles. He weaves his stories in such a way that they are very relatable on a basic human level. It’s consistent with every book of his that I’ve read, and I’m just in awe.

I love books that deal with different levels of personal growth. It’s utterly fascinating to me. So these books piqued my interest. Each man has his own struggles to get through before accepting love, relationships, and themselves. I found myself drawn to the characters, and rooting for them as I would a real person. While I’m reading these stories, they felt real.

While this is a collection of books, it is not a series, and each book completely stands alone. It is nice to have them all in one combined book, though. They were easy, fun, and enjoyable to read. The light angst to the stories was just enough to keep it from being too ‘fluffy’ and not heavy as well. I would definitely recommend this collection. It would make a wonderful addition to your library.

This was a great collection of like minded stories that still had something unique about each of them. I only read the first story before, so it was nice to re-read and also read 2 book by Jay I missed.
Jay has a very special way of writing mundane situations, of making it feel real, like it might as well have happened to you. And I really like that about his books.
In this collection each couple have their own sweet romance and struggles to overcome. They all expect to have a casual flung and end up falling for the other man. In the first story you get the first time experience, that I adore.
The secondly story had a rom-com sweet vibe with how they met on the train.
The third was my favorite, the training the share to get ready for the marathon is incorporated well in their growing relationship. Despite Matt's objections to being anything more then casual feeling ran deep.
It was a fitting end to a great collection, that promises HEA and sweet, simple storylines with not too much angst.

No spoilers of any kind included.
I thought The Nothing Collection was good and that’s all I’m going to say.
The author Jay Northcote does have great story weaving skills since I was able to get lost within this collection of books before I even got finished reading the second chapter.
So it’s going to be a yes I do recommend The Nothing Collection.

Excellent Series

Good stories. At least one man unsure and the other out and proud. How they worked it out and ended with a HEA.

Nice down to earth stories. Likeable MCS.

I read all of these books when they first came out, and I remember enjoying them then. They are all different, but all are worked around the same type of theme: being in the closet, coming out, and accepting the love of someone of the same sex. They're all normal working guys, and the stories seem to have been written at a time when being gay was even less acceptable that it is now. Overall, they're just nice heartwarmingly normal tales. Quite uncomplicated, no deception, no deep misunderstandings, just stories about normal people, the type of stories the author is famous for. All three stories are well written, the characters down to earth. There's no real angst, which made them a really refreshing to read. Excellent value for money.

This is a great collection of 3 standalone short-ish stories. They are filled with wonderful slightly-imperfect characters and unique storylines, low on drama, high on chemistry..... Definitely worth a read.

All three of these stories are fun and sexy and very enjoyable quick reads. Nothing Serious is probably my least favorite and Nothing Special has the best proposal and sweetest HEA but all are good and worth reading. It's also a plus that they came packaged in a single paperback!
