I gave Julie and Lawson 3 stars, not because I didn't enjoy them but because I feel like they could've been more. The plot follows them as they navigate an attraction while dealing with former domestic abuse and PSTD. They are reluctant to get involved but lucky for us, they can't resist. Where this book didn't work for me was Lawson. Sure, he was sexy. Said and did the right things, most of the time. But then he pushes Julie away and of course eventually wants her back but is it because he realized he loves her and she's worth it? Sure, he says it's that AFTER he finds out he can overcome his fear. To me, he should've wanted to be with her in spite of his fear. Maybe even because of it, if she inspires him. I don't know, but it just didn't sit right with me. I couldn't really believe the feelings. The pacing was a little off in some parts but I enjoyed the book. Safety: No OW, though H has a stalkerish OW interested in him. No OM. No sharing. Neither are Vs. No abuse/rape. They use condoms. H pushes h away.

5 - "You look good on a horse." Stars!

I loved the first book in Annie Rains’ Hero’s Welcome series, the introduction to the town of Seaside, North Carolina and the characters that live and work there was a really easy to get along with read.

The second book Welcome Home, Cowboy takes you right back there and it was a great to revisit previous characters and get to know some new ones with the telling of Julie and Lawson’s story.

"Ladies choice."

This is essentially a good old fashioned love story, as you would expect both characters are dealing with separate sets of issues, and although they are both under no illusions that starting a relationship with each other at this point in their lives is probably not the best idea, the chemistry between them, and the fact they seem to get each other in every way pretty much pushes their reservations into the background.

Marines didn’t do yoga. They trained. They fought. They swore to serve their country. They shouted “Oo-rah!”. They didn’t chant “Om”.

Lawson was charming, even when acting like an idiot, and I liked that although still feeling pretty raw and vulnerable from her previous relationship, Julie didn’t massively let it affect her blossoming connection with him. There is the inevitable drama from both sides, but it wasn’t dragged out or overplayed.

"I’ve liked you since the moment I met you. And I’m starting to think that’s not such a bad thing after all."

This series is definitely shaping up to be an absolute keeper, the author’s writing style engages you into the story-line and the couples they are written around are likeable, and although dealing with their own various issues, nothing is too dragged out or overdone. I love a series, where each book builds on the last, but features a different H/h, and Welcome Home, Cowboy is another great addition to Annie’s Hero’s Welcome series.

"Just don’t forget about me…"

"I couldn’t if I tried."

Tattooed good guy Griffin Black is up next, and seeing as his love interest is preacher’s daughter, Valerie Hunt, I am expecting another absolutely stellar read from this series when it releases in August.

Julie Chandler returned home to Seaside, North Carolina following a failed relationship that left her trying to find her way. She's looking to develop a career based on her yoga instruction skills at the town's Veterans Center. Lawson Phillips is an Army pilot mentally recovering from a devastating helo crash that's left him struggling to fly again. He's had his eye on Julie but it takes an interesting turn once she begins her yoga classes.

I liked the promise of this story, as well as both Julie and Lawson. What worked was the spotlight on not just the symptoms of PTSD but the therapies that seem to work. I also liked that there weren't any shortcuts and Lawson had to do the work. I appreciated the attention given to emotional abuse and its impacts, though Julie's final confrontation required a suspension of reality.

By the middle of the book however, I began to receive so many mixed messages from them I lost my way. I also found it curious that there was so much emphasis on the sexual relationship but most of the activities were summarized oddly. I didn't need it to be more explicit but the story put me there.

Overall, an enjoyable story and romance, despite Lawson's low moment near the end. I just wish the characters would have been more deftly developed. 3.5 stars

Welcome Home, Cowboy is the second book in Annie Raines' Hero's Welcome series. In this series, Annie takes us to the town on Seaside, North Carolina where the military has a STRONG presence. This was my first book I've read by this author and I thought Welcome Home, Cowboy was an enjoyable read with good characters. Each book can be read as a standalone and not miss anything from the others in the series.

Julie Chandler is trying to put her life back together in Seaside. She came back home after a difficult break up with her boyfriend/boss. In a last ditch effort, she presents a therapeutic yoga class at the local VA for military members suffering from PTSD. When she is given a 30 day (unpaid) trial period, all she needs to do is convince a group of stubborn marines to give her program a real chance.

Marine pilot Lawson Phillips was born to fly. But ever since he lost a crew member in a helicopter crash, Lawson just hasn't been able even able to look a helicopter without breaking out in a sweat. Being ordered to take a yoga class isn't going to help him get past his fears. But when he sees who the instructor is, MAYBE he is willing to show up again.

The progression of Lawson and Julie's relationship is a sweet, steady pace. The only thing (for me), is I wish there was a little more "heat" between them. I still really enjoyed how these characters grew and developed together and as individuals. And I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Julie has returned to Seaside, North Carolina after walking away from a destructive relationship with the hope of starting a yoga class at the local veteran's center. Growing up in a town with a military base has given Julie a healthy respect for the men and women who serve and she yearns to give back in the best way she knows how - by offering her yoga expertise as a way to help these heroes manage stress and PTSD. She knows she'll likely meet some resistance but she's determined to make it happen.

Lawson is struggling with the after-effects of losing a crew member when his helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan. He's less than thrilled when he is ordered to attend a weekly yoga class to help alleviate his stress but he'll do what it takes do get back in the air and off desk duty.

Julie and Lawson are not strangers and I liked that they already knew each other when the novel started. Lawson's best friend is married to Julie's sister (Micah and Kat from the first book in the series). They were more acquaintances than friends but their paths continued to cross and the chemistry continued to grow. Julie was gun-shy from her last relationship and this often led to her acting defensive and abrupt with Lawson. Sure, sometimes he was cocky but he was genuinely a good guy and his actions proved that again and again.

 photo WHC-2_zpslntk0dza.jpg

I loved the evolution of Lawson and Julie's relationship. From friendship, to friends with benefits, to the real thing - watching them navigate their feelings for each other was equal parts swoon worthy and frustrating. I was anxious for Julie to share her feelings with Lawson, and for Lawson to open up to Julie about his struggles with PTSD. But their hesitancy and reluctance felt completely realistic and made for a richer story.

Being married to a veteran who served for 20 years, I found that it was Lawson's story that really touched my heart. I hurt for his loss and the guilt he struggled with. He was such a good man and felt such a sense of responsibility to those he loved. It was easy to want a happy ending for him.

Welcome Home, Cowboy is on the sweeter side of romance but does have a few nice and steamy scenes. It is the second in the Hero's Welcome series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am already looking forward to the next book in the series.

Welcome Home, Cowboy was a lovely, heartwarming and entertaining read.

I really enjoyed this book, loved both Julie and Lawson's characters. They made me smile, they frustrated me, they made me swoon and they touched my heart with their insecurities and fears.
Together they were able to find inner peace and unconditional love.

PTSD & Domestic Abuse. Neither of which sound like the combine well into a thriving relationship that will last or flourish. Regardless of what my on-setting views are I found a series that I want to read all of. Sweet down home welcoming in the air. Cowboy can leave and then come home anytime. The welcoming part is quite fun.

I found in this instance that one that has experienced domestic abuse may just be the answer to provide help to PTSD survivors. Because there is some of the PTSD in a domestic abuse survivor. Julie has a new life, new goals, new town, new everything. She struggles with life in the way that a domestic abuse survivors does. She was reserving and standoffish. Protecting herself was her top goal.

Lawson cowboy at heart and Marine pilot has more than he thinks to offer the world around him. Fear can freeze a man. Fear can scare a man. Hurting someone that they love can cause this fear to turn into unwise decisions. Lawson learns this first hand. Julie experience it also. Did she give in at the wrong time? Will it turn around?

Annie Rains has me wanting to move to Seaside, North Carolina for the warm people, tight community, and the thriving spirit of the town. I look forward to more

This was a very cute, kind of sexy, and all-around enjoyable book. My first by this author, but very unlikely to be my last, I found myself quickly sucked into the tale of Lawson, the cowboy Marine (and holy hell, if that's not the hottest thing ever) and Julie, the yoga instructor getting over a bad relationship.

While I did, on occasion, find Welcome Home, Cowboy to be a touch cliche, for the most part, I simply enjoyed the well-paced humor, the energetic characters--adorable Sabrina leading the pack on that--and the simple but sweet development of Lawson and Julie's relationship.

Ms. Rains did an admirable job of handling the topic of PTSD, without making it overly trite, or giving it an easy solution. Instead, she drew real emotion from me, as I watched Lawson struggle with his past, and try to move on. I do wish we could have seen a little more of the 'aftermath' of the climax of that storyline, but nonetheless, this book ended in a way that is sure to draw big smiles.

I might have missed book one in this series—Micah and Kat's story—but I had zero trouble following along with this couple, and I would love the chance to go back and start from the beginning. Even if I don't manage to do that, I will definitely be checking in for Griffiin's book...hopefully with Val. ~ Beth, 3.5 stars

Julie is back in Seaside again. After a bad breakup she needed a fresh start and going home to her friends and family was the only thing she wanted. She's looking for a job and because the search isn't going too well she decides to be brave and create something instead. She offers to give yoga lessons to veterans with PTSD to make them feel more relaxed and help them with their recovery. Lawson is one of her students. He's been through a lot and because he needs them Julie's yoga lessons are being made mandatory for him by his boss. At first he isn't interested, but soon he changes his mind, about both the lessons and his teacher. Only he isn't in a good place and Julie doesn't want a relationship, so do they really have a chance?

Welcome Home Cowboy is a romantic story about two damaged people who deserve a second chance at happiness. Lawson is a great man, but he's traumatized due to a horrible experience in a helicopter. Annie Rains writes about what happened to him with compassion and sensitivity. Julie's relationship with her ex-boyfriend was awful and that scarred her for life. She's strong and she's determined to make the best of the chances she gets. I liked that about her and I loved reading about her personal growth. A lot was taken from her, but she doesn't feel sorry for herself, she works on getting it back. I admired that and enjoyed reading about her progress. Julie and Lawson are both wonderful and that is a big part of the charm of the story.

Welcome Home Cowboy is a story about emotional boundaries, loss and hope. It's has many different layers and Annie Rains describes them all very well. Her writing is heartwarming and she makes the readers come close to her main characters. They know exactly what they thinking and feeling and I really liked that. The descriptions of the yoga exercises and life as a marine are vivid and believable. I enjoyed reading about Julie and Lawson's passions very much. Their jobs are a big part of their life and they define their personalities. It was interesting to read about what makes them feel happy and alive. I genuinely hoped they would get that back. I love stories about second chances and people who deserve a break and Welcome Home Cowboy is definitely a good one.

So I really enjoyed the first one in this series …. but this one took a while to get into.
It was hard to connect with not only the characters but also with the story line as a whole. Even though we met both Julia and Lawson in the first book and we get to know them better in this one obviously. But their connection was strange.

Julia as we already knew was running from an abusive relationship, a bad break-up and desperate to get her life back together again.

Lawson is a marine who is suffering from PTSD but is unwilling to accept that he may need some help in order to get back to active duty.

While waiting to hear back if she can finally start her PTSD yoga class, Julia needed an income but nothing seemed to be working out. That is until she takes up watching Lawson’s wild niece.
Both of them are dealing with their own demons and are reluctant to get together. Of course they do and we get some deliciousness out of them.

But we can’t have a good love story without some drama so naturally guy gets scared and pushes girl away. Girl goes about her own life pinning after guy then guy realizes he wants girl and try to win her back.

My biggest issue would have to be with how they both acted towards the end. I was shaking my head in confusion over some of their decisions. So all in all it was a decent read.

UPDATED 08/25/2016:

As addition to this book, I read the short story 'Aloha, Cowboy'. A little glimpse intp Julie and Lawson's trip to Hawaii.

I loved the short story, super cute and loved seeing how Lawson is willing to 'sacrifice' for Julie, showing just how great he is to her and worth all the trouble they went through in 'Welcome Home, Cowboy'.

Fun and sexy, a perfect little thing. ;-)

Thanks to the author for providing this short story.

Original Review:

This was such a lovely read, just like the first book in the series.

We have Julie and Lawson, meeting for the first time in Seaside. Julie plans on working there teaching yoga to marines, and Lawson happens to be recommended to do this.

I loved both these characters. Loved Julie’s strength and how she was able to work hard and move on from that idiot guy she was dating. And how Lawson just wants to get better and doesn’t give up.

I hated that people didn’t see the power that yoga has in helping people, and kinda looked at Julie like she was crazy, I really wanted to slap them. And I was super glad that Lawson might have started kinda like that, and then he turned into her biggest cheerleader.

I really enjoyed this story, and can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

I received this book asp an ARC from Net Galley for an honest review & my thoughts are wow! Two people both battling something that if they fail will alter their worlds. Lawson a Marine captain is trying to get his career back on track after crashing a helicopter in Afghanistan & loosing one of his men. Now he wakes up from nightmares of the crash & can't seem to go anywhere near a helicopter without breaking out in a cold sweat & wanting to vomit. Julie is trying to get her life back on track after leaving a very abusive relationship of 3yrs. Now she's trying to do something to give back to the men & women serving in the military that are battling demons the only way she knows how with her Yoga. Lawson & Julie know each other from a year ago when her sister married his best friend now retired from the Marines. Their first meeting doesn't go well to say the least but when Lawson is order by his base psychiatrist to take Yoga classes they begin to see who each other really is even though they both know that a relationship right now would be a mistake. Definitely recommended. I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed the 1st book in this series. I'm hoping that the next book is on Griffin another best friend of Lawson's because he's so cocky I can't wait to see him fall.

The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak.

If you have not already read the below I would recommend reading those books first:
Welcome to Forever (Hero's Welcome, #1)

This is Julie and Lawson’s story. Julie has moved back home after a failed relationship. She is looking for a job but not having a lot of luck. She approached the Veteran’s center with an idea that could help everyone with PTSD. She wants to teach them yoga to help combat PTSD. Lawson who was injured in a crash is suffering and can’t get inside a helicopter. He gets assigned to her class. He wants Julie and has made it no secret that he wants her. When he spouts off that yoga is a joke and he hurts Julie’s feelings. He knows he must make it right with her if he wants a relationship. The more time they spend together the more they fall. What happens when you decide to make decisions in a relationship by yourself? You push away the other person and end up hurting the both of you. If there any way to fix the hurt that runs soul deep?

I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Welcome Home, Cowboy is the second book in the Hero's Welcome series. I enjoyed the first one and I can honestly say I liked this one even more. This is Julie and Lawson's story. Julie is Kat's sister from the first book. She has returned home after ending an abusive relationship and is trying to focus on finding a job and new life. Lawson is fighting his PTSD that prevents him from getting back into a helicopter after a devastating accident during the war.

I really loved this couple together. I liked how they started out as friends and it slowly built into love. Both of them were struggling, but gave each other the strength to go after what they wanted. I wanted to drop kick Lawson at one point because he was so blind, but he redeemed himself nicely!

I have never been a fan of yoga the couple of times I tried it, but after reading this book, I am wondering if I should give it another try. Maybe it will eventually help me with stress reduction. Just like Lawson, I can have my mind changed.

This was a great addition to the series. I look forward to Val and Griffin's story coming up later in the summer!

#2 in the Hero's Welcome romance series

I really liked the warm and loving feel of this book. The characters are very appealing--quiet, interested in helping others, with solid and loving personalities. But not only do they have strong characters and good work ethics, but they are also vulnerable and caring. They both have strong family ties and are just trying to reach their dreams. They are strongly attracted to each other from the beginning, but neither is really looking for a relationship because they are both battling their own issues, overcoming traumas in their pasts. Lawson's problem is more obvious, but Julie had trauma to work through as well in her relationship with her ex. I liked how they reached out to each other even though that wasn't their first instinct, and they had to overcome their fears. I liked Rains's writing. It was smooth and easy, and the characters were interesting. She was able to promote a discussion of the work Julie was doing with PTSD and other stress-related military problems without it being preachy. I will definitely look for more from this author.

The book started out a bit difficult for me as I had troubles connecting with the characters and feeling the chemistry between Julie and Lawson. But then it got better and better and I really liked the two, especially together.
I really liked the character's path in this book. Julie starting a new life after a bad break-up and then Lawson trying to settle back into life after his war experiences and a bad accident. I found the way the story was told and how the characters struggled very authentic.

I really enjoyed reading this sweet story and also enjoyed the author's writing style. I will definetely read more.

A relationship isn't something Julie Chandler is looking for, not after what she went through with her last boyfriend. But being back in Seaside and running a yoga program for Military men and women with PTSD, she finds it hard to keep resisting the gorgeous Lawson Philips. Especially when she discovers he's her newest student for her program; a program he doesn't believe can be of benefit for him. However, she's determined to change his mind.

After a serious helicopter crash, Lawson Philips hasn't been able to do what he does best - fly, and as a Marine pilot that is what's important, especially if he wants to stay in Seaside. Seeing a psychiatrist is bad enough, but what she orders him to do to help him further is something he'd never ever do unless forced. Yet, as soon as he learns that Julie is the instructor, he's all for giving the relaxation technique a try, if only to spend as much time with her as possible.

Having absolutely loved the first book of this series, I was really looking forward to reading this one, and I've got to say that it does not disappoint. Right from the beginning, it was very entertaining and fast-paced due to Julie being in a bind. Can she convince someone that her yoga program can do wonders for those suffering PTSD?

As for the dialogue, I loved every moment between Lawson and Julie, even when she's stand-offish towards the hero. Not that I could blame her after what happened with her ex. However, Lawson is different. He'd never become her ex, and it shows through how kind and caring he is. Not just towards Julie, but everything he does for his sister and niece as well. However, the dialogue is also intense due to the main characters back stories, what Lawson has to go through to find his way back to flying again and when Julie finally confronts her past. She surprised me the way she finally finds the courage to tell her ex off, to do what she did so he couldn't ruin the huge chance she was being offered when it came to her job.

Both the main and secondary characters are fantastic, and I liked that Kat and Micah, the couple from the first book made an appearance in this one. The advice each of the secondary characters offers Lawson and Julie is good for them, as it forces both to realize how good they could be together. More so Julie than Lawson, because she deserves to be happy after the disaster of her last relationship. Her ex is a total jerk that didn't deserve her.

Julie is strong, brave, tenacious and I liked how she grew throughout this story. She's quite down in the beginning because of everything that's happened in her life, but once someone gives her a chance to prove herself, she begins to shine. Begins to find that she can do anything she sets her mind to without relying on anyone besides herself. But what I liked most about the heroine is how hard she works to prove that yoga can help lots of people.

While Lawson is strong, brave, and really struggles with his dream of getting back to flying. Indeed, I felt sorry for him. He's haunted by the accident, by the fact that he couldn't save everyone. It seems that no matter what he does, or how hard he tries to get past his demons that have been niggling at him since the accident, nothing works until the timing is right and someone in trouble needs his help.

Hot sex scenes heat up the pages at the perfect moments throughout this story. Moments that illustrate the intense chemistry that is between this couple from the moment they come face-to-face. Julie needs to be sure that she can trust Lawson before giving him a chance, and he does everything to prove he can be the right man for her.

Overall, Ms. Rains has penned another really good story for this series with an engaging plot, great characters and well-written dialogue that has left this reader wanting to delve into the next book as soon as its released. The way this story ended was incredible, as Lawson found what it takes to overcome his fears -- both in his personal and professional life. Then there's the epilogue that finally ties up whether Julie is getting a niece or nephew, and how Lawson wants to take their relationship to the next level. But what he has planned isn't at all what most would think it is. I would recommend Welcome Home, Cowboy by Annie Rains, if you've read the first book of this series, or if you enjoy a hero and heroine that need each other to heal from the hurts of their pasts.

MY THOUGHTS:
This is the first time I have read anything from this author and I didn’t know what I was getting into, but I found I really enjoyed this book. It is a sweet love story between two broken people and how they help each other move on and heal. If you are looking for a hot and steamy book, this isn’t’ the book for you. What you will get is heat and passion between Lawson and Julie, but its subtler and focuses more on their connection than graphic sex scenes. There are many feels in this book and there is a great supporting cast of characters.

Julie Chandler moved back home to Seaside to be close to her family again after a very bad breakup with a controlling ex-boyfriend that was also her boss. Julie is a yoga instructor with a passion to share the benefits of yoga not only for the body, but for the mind. She is trying to convince the Veteran Center to hire her to teach yoga to active duty and retired marines and their families. Julie’s friend convinces her boss to give Julie a chance, but the catch is that she works for free for 30-days to see if this is something that would work for their community. Julie takes the job even though her bills are piling up, but she just can’t give up her dream of helping the military members.

Lawson Phillips is a very sexy cowboy, but he is also the ultimate macho Marine with ideas that running and lifting weights is a better stress reliever than yoga, of all things. He is under the care of a Psychologist who insists he attends these yoga classes as Lawson is unable to be near helicopters without having panic attacks. He is soon going to be evaluated to find out if he is fit to fly again and his commander is watching him closely. If Lawson is unable to get a handle on his panic attacks he will be sent to another duty station away from his sister, niece and the beautiful, talented yoga instructor that he has grown to care for deeply.

Julie and Lawson’s love story builds and they fall in love. Lawson has to work with Julie on her trust issues and just as things are going well personally between Julie and Lawson, his professional career was not improving. He wasn’t as willing to share his issues with Julie even though he demanded she share her issues with him. After some contemplation he makes a bone head decision. He ends up hurting Julie and himself because he thinks he knows what’s best for both of them without talking to Julie about it. I wanted to throw my IPad at him! Thank goodness his sister and niece talked some sense into him and he redeemed himself! I won’t tell you anymore of what happens, but they find their HEA.

I loved this story and the characters. I will definitely go back and read the first book in this series, which is Welcome to Forever, Julie’s sister Kat’s book. If you want a book with feels, some heat but done tastefully, then this is the book for you.

Review:

This is a sweet story of letting go of the past. It is a military romance that takes place in the town of Seaside, North Carolina and the military base located there. This is part of the Welcome Home Series, but it is a stand alone novel that can be read independently of the other books in this series.
Plot-Julie Chandler has relocated to her home town of Seaside, North Carolina after a bad break-up with her abusive boyfriend. Trying to make a new life for herself, she has developed a yoga class to help alleviate stress and the effects of PTSD. Now to convince the Marines, and the owner of the rec center that this is a viable program. Captain, Lawson Phillips has recovered from the physical wounds of the helicopter accident that killed one of his crew and injured others, but he still can’t face getting back into a helicopter. What does a person do when all they ever wanted to do was fly and now even the sound of a helicopter causes you anxiety? Forced by his psychologist to take the new yoga class, Lawson comes face to face with Julie. The beautiful girl that he keeps running into. This is a well written story where both main characters must overcome their demons so that they can make the most of their lives. The chemistry is evident between Lawson and Julie from their first meeting. The story is paced well bringing in other characters making this a believable story. This is a happy ever after story, so, yes I loved the ending. Both characters grow and learn to trust in one another, but most importantly in themselves.

I received an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review and here it is: 3 stars.

Julie Chandler, has returned home to Seaside, NC, hoping to make a fresh start pitching her idea of teaching yoga as a stress-reduction reliever at the Veterans' Center there. As she's getting out of her car, a truck pulls up next to her, splashing her with rain water and mud. She soon discovers that the driver is Captain Lawson Phillips, whom she met a year ago when her sister began dating and then married his best friend. Although the job she was hoping for doesn't really exist, she manages to get Mr. Banks, who owns the center, to agree to let her offer her yoga class for a one-month trial basis, without compensation, to see how it goes. In the interim, she then agrees to take a part-time job as a babysitter for 4-year-old Sabrina, only to discover that she's Lawson's niece.

We soon learn that Lawson, a Marine, was piloting a helicopter when he was shot down, losing one of his crew members and leaving another minus a leg. Although getting the 4 other crew members to safety, he's been on light duty at Camp Leon ever since, and has refused to see a psychiatrist with the Naval Mental Health unit. He can't even hear the sound of a helicopter without having an anxiety attack and since being a pilot is what he's always wanted to do, he's afraid of the PTSD label. Not only does his superior officer order him meet with the psychiatrist, the psychiatrist orders him to take the new yoga class as part of his therapy. While attracted to Julie, taking yoga is the last thing he wants to do, and, at Julie's first class, he turns it into a joke, although he is attracted to Julie, and she to him.

We soon learn that Julie has issues of her own. She moved back home after running away from her 3-year relationship with Daren, her former boss and lover who had become increasingly controlling and manipulative and who had eventually struck her. She doesn't trust her judgment about men, and doesn't really want to get involved Lawson, who is doing his best to change her mind. Their sexual relationship happens rather quickly, something that didn't quite ring true for this reader. Lawson is very charming, but Julie's resolve to focus on her job and avoid relationships, something Lawson's therapist has also advised him to do, doesn't last long.

While I'm usually a sucker for a wounded warrior story, especially if said warrior has PTSD, this novel simply didn't move me, and the behavior of the characters simply didn't ring true, nor did I feel particularly sympathetic toward either of them. Lawson's denial of his PTSD symptoms, especially when PTSD is now openly discussed seemed off. When Julie, who fears her ex-boyfriend but needs a glowing job reference from him, decides to go see him alone and then practically blackmails him into giving her that reference, also seemed off, and certainly not something a woman who has been controlled and battered would do. Although this novel is well-written, I found myself questioning the decisions made and the actions and behavior of the main characters, which is why, although wanting to really like this novel, I found it an okay if slow read, but not quite up to the standard of other, more intense and dramatic wounded warrior novels I've read.

A heartwarming, incredible story about love, and new beginnings.

WELCOME HOME, COWBOY was an unforgettable story, and even as I finished the book, I thought about it for a while after. I wondered, what would happen to Lawson and Julie after? I loved the two of them together, I was rooting from them from start, the moment that the two of them met one another. I read the first book, WELCOME TO FOREVER with a good friend of mine for buddy read. I fell in love with the story, the plot instantly. I been eager to pick up the next book in Hero’s Welcome Series ever since, and moment I picked up WELCOME HOME, COWBOY the only thing that I regret, is that I didn’t read it before now. I already know that Hero’s Welcome is going be a series that I am going fall in love with, I think that I already am.

I loved WELCOME TO FOREVER , But once I started reading WELCOME HOME, COWBOY I found myself loving the book a bit more than the first book in the series. I fell in love with Julie and Lawson. I loved Lawson since he was introduced in the first book, and I was curious about Julie and what happened to her, to come back home. Like Lawson, I wanted to give her ex a piece of my mind myself, she didn’t deserve what he had put her through. Lawson, how can you not love him? Despite his issues, his fears about flying, He’s the type of guy that every girl dreams of. I wish he didn’t push away Julie when he did, but at the same time I understood why he did. He’s lucky that Julie loved him so much, that she forgave him. Of course I couldn’t help but smile. How could I not? Julie deserved someone who loved her for who she was, and did not try to control. Lawson too, he deserved someone who be there for him, no matter what. Lawson and Julie, they belonged together.
The story, characters and the plot weren’t only what pulled into story. Did you see the cover? It’s stunning. Just looking at the picture will make you smile. Even if you didn’t know what story is about, cover will want you to find out what it is about. I am already eager to see what is in store for new couple in this heartwarming series. I only read two books by this author, and I am in love. I can’t get enough.

Magnificent from start to end.

Welcome Home, Cowboy, written by Annie Rains, is the second book in the Hero's Welcome series. The main characters in this book initially appeared in the first book of the series, Welcome to Forever. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend reading the first book in the series, as well as any future releases. This truly is an amazing series, filled with great characters and interesting storylines.

Julie Chandler is a yoga teacher that has recently moved to Seaside, North Carolina, after a devastating breakup. She is determined to start over and make a new life for herself, but is unable to find a job. Out of options, she turns to the one thing she knows best, yoga. Julie wants to be able to help soldiers suffering from PTSD, and has developed a yoga program that will help them to better handle their symptoms. She pitches the idea at the base, and is given one month to see if her program will actually be effective. The only thing standing in her way is how to get soldiers and veterans to actually try her program.

Lawson Phillips is a captain and pilot in the Marines. He recently lost a crew member after a helicopter crash in Afghanistan, and hasn't been able to fly since. He continues to have reoccurring nightmares, and his PTSD is out of control. To make matters even worse, he is on the verge of losing his career as a pilot. He is unable to go near a helicopter without freaking out, and his therapist has found a way to help him manage his PTSD...Lawson is ordered to enroll in the yoga class. Lawson is skeptical at first, until he finds out the teacher is Julie Chandler. The two met previously when his best friend, Micah Peterson, married Kat Chandler...Julie's sister. The first time that he met Julie didn't go well at all, but he doesn't let that stop him from trying again.

The last thing either character is looking for is a relationship...both have their own personal issues to deal with. The author does a great job in letting their relationship progress over time, even though the chemistry is there from the start. As the story unfolds, they end up helping each other to heal and move forward. Overall, this is just a great feel-good romance. The storyline is interesting, and held my attention from beginning to end. I was able to connect to both characters, which is always a good thing. The supporting characters were written well, and I am hoping the next book in the series is about Griff. I also liked the whole yoga idea to help treat PTSD, and found this to be a unique addition to the storyline. The author brings the story to life, and that makes you want to see that happy ending for the characters. I would strongly recommend this book, as well as any other books in the series.

I was given an advance digital copy of this book from Random House Publishing Group- Loveswept and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book has your spoonful of military and has layers of cowboys raiding horses.
As they say,
Save a Horse
Ride a Cowboy!

Received a copy from netgalley for an honest review. Some Spoilers...

Julie spent three years of her life, trapped in a relationship she wish she never had to be in. Now she is back in her home town, living in her sister’s old house and trying to start over. First on her list, find a job! Nowhere on her to do list does it say, fall in love with a cowboy/marine; but the heart sometimes want what it wants.

Lawson has been back from his deployment for a little while. He hasn’t been released to return to full duty. His commander and those around him can tell that what happened in Afghanistan shook him. He has changed. Flying has been his dream and life since he was little. Now he isn’t sure what to do or where to go. He is having a difficult time finding peace. Flying brought him that, but now the only peace he is getting come in the form of green-eyes, fair skin, blonde hair, and teaches yoga.

Julie and Lawson meet in Welcome Home Forever. There were sparks, but weren’t sure if it was going to ignite. We can be satisfied now. This is their story.

What I liked about this book is the PTSD that Lawson goes through. I think it is over looked too much and has a taboo on it. It SUCKS to have to go to a therapist or psychiatrist while in the military. There is a stigma that they may kick you out or brand you as crazy, which can hurt a military members career. It isn’t true, but at the same time it isn’t talked about. I know this because being in the military world, we have seen it. I am glad that Annie Rains allows Lawson’s career to not be hurt by the fact he goes to see someone once a week.

Julie has her own problems. She is trying to become an independent women. Julie doesn’t want other people to make choices for her. She had that already and doesn’t want to go through that again. Throughout the story we see her standing up for herself, and facing her fears.

This book is all about overcoming one’s personal fears; to not allow the past to dictate your future. We are not able to control what has happened to us, but we do have the power to control how we live now. Julie and Lawson find that inner strength with the help of each other and a bit of yoga.

If you are a yoga person you will love this book. If you don’t even know what a child pose is, don’t worry, you will love this book too. I hope you all enjoy it.

Returning to Seaside, we have Julie who has come home after a series of fails: failed relationship, failed confidence and an attempt to find her footing. She really wants to make her mark as a yoga instructor, and offers her class and skills at the local Veteran’s center.

Lawson is a pilot, injured after a helo crash, and dealing with the associated guilt, fear and other lingering effects of deployment. The yoga class is one of those opportunities that his treatment team believes he should take – and order him to participate with the thought that it will help him build techniques for lowering his stress levels.

There aren’t too many shortcuts in the ‘issue’ area here – Lawson has to do the work to get the benefits, and Julie also has her own history of the abusive relationship to put in the past. Their connection is palpable with sexual tension, but these two do serve to help one another move through the minefield that is recovery. While I found that Julie’s final moments leading to her letting go of the past were a bit ‘out there’ and didn’t feel as plausible as I had hoped, she is able to reframe her own expectations and learn to stand on her own two feet as she moves past the self-doubt and questions brought on by that relationship.

Lawson was more of an enigma – there were plenty of issues to work through, and I think that there were moments where the issues took the place of development of his character in demonstrable ways. He did grow and develop an understanding of the issues he was dealing with, and we did see him start to come to terms with his own guilt, I wanted a bit more of his journey TO those points. Yes – we see him struggling and later on in his recovery, and a low moment (as this trajectory is never always forward moving) worked to show that these aren’t quick fixes, but I did want to feel that his changes were actually incorporated, so I saw more of his growth rather than just be told about them in different perspectives. This didn’t detract – in fact for a second published work this book continues to display the promise I saw from Rains’ first title, I just hoped for a bit more.

Annie Rains is an author to watch, and this series is a solid read for those who like a rather tortured and troubled hero, or military themes with heart, options and some truly honest perspectives on PTSD, Trauma recovery and coming to terms with the past.

I was a huge fan of Welcome to Forever, the first book in this heartwarming series, so I was looking forward to the second book, especially when I discovered it was going to be about Lawson. Lawson and Julie were introduced in the first book. I was so happy these two would get their own story.
Lawson and Julie each have issues they are dealing with. Lawson came across as a self-confident flirt, but that is not what is going on inside. He’s battling a fear that threatens to ruin his career as a pilot. Julie is returning to Seaside, hoping to start a new life. She hasn’t had the best of luck in the romance department, and both know having a relationship at this point in their lives won’t be a good thing. As they meet each other again, there is some major chemistry. When Lawson is forced to go to a yoga class to deal with his PTSD, he’s not excited at all! That is….until he sees Julie will be the instructor. She’s running a test program to see if it actually helps vets with their PTSD issues. The two build a friendship and enjoy each other’s company, but it’s getting harder not giving into their hearts. Will becoming more than friends give them their own forever or completely, or will it just blow up in their faces?

I developed a slight crush on Lawson in the first book, and I completely fell in love with him in this one. He is far from perfect, but he has such a big heart. At times, I wanted to scream at him like his sister did, but I completely understood why he acted the way he did. He was so afraid, and it’s hard for a brave Marine to admit that, so he does makes some decisions that will hurt himself, but he’s not a bad guy at all. It was such a joy to see Julie take back the pieces of herself that her ex took away. She grew from a woman who completely didn’t believe in herself to a woman who learned to love herself again, but most importantly, she became a much stronger woman. I loved all the secondary characters, especially Lawson’s sister, Beth, and his niece, Sabrina. They truly added so much depth to the storyline.

I love a good romance, but I also like a romance with some depth and heart to it. Both books in this series are just those kind of love stories! Not only was it a great, heartwarming, and spicy romance, but it was a book of hope, second chances, finding strength inside oneself, and making life better. It really opened my eyes to the issues our veterans face…one of the biggest is PTSD. It shows readers how exactly what it is and ways in which they can find hope again. Great book!!!!

The problem with a fantastic first book in a series is that it builds up your expectations for the next one coming. And that’s not always easy to pull off. While I loved Welcome to Forever, the first book in the Hero’s Welcome series, Welcome Home, Cowboy was just ok. I can’t say I didn’t connect with the main characters, it just felt like I didn’t do it in the same depth as with the former couple.

Julie came running back to town when she broke up with her live-in boyfriend of three years. Unable to find a job as a yoga teacher right away, she decides to ask if the local Marine Veteran’s Center will let her set up a yoga class for stress relief. Lawson is a pilot with the Marine Corps who has been grounded for over a year because of a severe accident in his last mission. At the end of his recovery time, he is sent to her mandatory stress release class.

Julie and Lawson had been dancing around each other for some time, but both have reasons to not to want to get involved. Regrettably for them, the heart wants what the heart wants, and even with them fighting it, their feelings for each other grow as time spent together increases. Unfortunately, inner demons are not so easy to overcome, so when things don’t go exactly as they want them to, will they stick together and fight or take the easy road and give up?

As I said, I liked both Lawson and Julie. Julie had to rebuild her self-confidence and stand up to her past. Unfortunately, at times her self-doubt got to be too much for my taste. Lawson was seriously in denial about his ordeal and was not really coping with it. I loved that he wanted to be the best possible version of himself, but that came with a misguided concept of what his best version is. At one point he does the “I’m-not-worthy-enough-for-someone-as-good-as-her” routine and that just pissed me off.

Welcome Home, Cowboy is a relationship driven story, and as such I felt Julie and Lawson’s issues and the past that haunted them should have been explored more thoroughly. As it is, it ended up being kind of bland and not as emotionally grabbing as the first book.

If only Ms. Rains had gone into more depth about their pasts, this could easily have been a fantastic read.

Welcome Home, Cowboy is the second in a series by Annie Rains about people in the military service and their coming home. In particular back to the town of Seaside, North Carolina. Welcome Home, Cowboy features two familiar characters introduced in the first book. Lawson and Julie are near and dear to the protagonists of Welcome to Forever but despite that this novel can definitely stand alone. Lawson has recently come back from an assignment that didn't turn out as he expected. Sadly he's also come back with a case of PTSD that has affected his work as a Marine pilot. Because of this, he's ordered to attend counselling and some form of exercise to decrease his stress levels. Little did he know that it would also involve attending Yoga classes and coming in contact with the one person he should really stay away from. Julie has been putting her life back together after an emotionally abusive relationship. Her program to introduce Yoga classes in the Veterans' Center is the one thing she is passionate about. Getting involve in another relationship is definitely not a good idea. But then those good intentions have a way of being forgotten when these two people are in close proximity to one another. Pretty soon they are more than hot and heavy but when circumstances in their lives starts seeping into their relationship, one of them starts breaking apart and ends up hurting the other.

I love Annie Rains writing ever since Welcome to Forever. She manages to create stories with real life circumstances and create plausible happily for now endings (don't worry they do end up as HEA sometime in the future). Welcome Home, Cowboy is no exception. There is honesty of feelings and emotions. There is laughter despite the serious circumstances that Julie and Lawson find themselves in. And the redemptive power of love is so real you can't help feel you know these people and they are just around the corner living their lives like you and me. Eagerly waiting for the next book and this time around you can definitely get an idea who the protagonists are going to be.

Julie Chandler has moved back to Seaside after finally taking a stand and leaving her abusive ex. She’s now at her wits end because she can’t find job and to say that her cash reserves were running low wouldn’t be an exaggeration, they were almost none existent. She’s come up with an idea though, one that she knows would make the world of difference for some people… Teach yoga to Maries that suffer from PTSD. It’s a long shot but she has to give it her all and is all set to do so, dressed to impress with proposal in hand, but then Lawson Phillips happens and once again he has all riled up and not in a good way, well some of it’s good but he and every other man on the planet is off limits. She was not falling another hot and sexy man no matter how sweet he seemed on the outside.

Lawson Philips is one of those Maries that is currently suffering from PTSD having been the pilot to in a helicopter that came upon enemy fire. The town saw him as a hero but he only sees himself as a failure because he lost one of his men in that crash. Now even the sound of a helicopter makes him break into sweats and freezes him in fear. He has hidden his problem for as long as he can and once his Commander makes that discovery, he sends him to the base physiatrist. Now his time at Seaside has a timeline as well as some as rules.

I feel in love with this series when I read Kat and Micah’s story so I was excited to see this one show up in my feed but I was disappointed and somewhat let down after reading it. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed but was expecting more. Lawson wasn’t the bad boy that he was in book one. I guess this is both good and bad and while I know that he’s been through some trauma I wasn’t expecting him to be so tame. As for Julie, well she had just come out of a bad relationship so she acted like I would have expected but I was expecting more excitement and drama when she faced her past.

Book three is about Griffin and the preachers daughter which I cannot wait to read. I truly hope that I’m granted the honor of being a beta reader for that one as well.

I was given an ARC by the publisher through Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I loved Welcome To Forever so much I wasn't sure I'd ever manage to like another book half as much. Annie Rains didn't disappoint with this new story, and pulled me right into the book, making me fall in love once again with her characters, the small town setting and an emotional story that made my heart soar. I think I'll never get enough of this series!

I loved reading Lawson and Julie's interactions. When they started getting closer, my heart swelled at the sweet, romantic and funny scenes. What I liked about these two was that they never failed to bring a smile to my face. Their banter was sweet, sometimes sexy and sometimes downright romantic. Page after page I felt a little closer to them, felt Lawson's pain and fear of failure, of failing his sister, his niece and even Julie. I felt Julie's insecurities, her struggle to stay away from Lawson even as he was all she could think about. I loved the building of the romance between them, and was pained when they reached their dark moment and everything seemed lost.

Just like in book one, Annie Rains has a way of pulling the reader into the story; with every story I feel like she's wrapping a warm, fuzzy blanket of emotion around me and taking me on a beautiful journey toward a happily ever after that won't fail to leave me with a contented smile and a heart full of emotions.

I truly loved this book. I could go on and on about the many reasons why I loved this book, but sometimes words just aren't enough. Just trust me when I say all you really need to do is read this book asap!

If you've read Welcome To Forever, I have no doubt you'll enjoy this book just as much. If you still have to discover Annie Rains book, Welcome Home Cowboy works perfectly as a standalone, but I recommend reading book one, too once you've finished this, just because it's a wonderful story!
