Basically I became interested in becoming a writer after reading Terry McMillan’s novel Disappearing Acts. In 2004 my author dreams were realized via the release of my controversial debut novel My Daughter’s Boyfriend, the story of a 34-year old single mother that becomes attracted to her teenage daughter’s boyfriend.
I love writing about marriage, infidelity, juicy love triangles, family, romance, women's issues, and male/female relationships. It never gets boring to write about what human beings go through.
My novels make you think and feel! If it doesn't do that, I haven't done my job.
My novels/interviews have been featured in USA Today, Black Beat Magazine, Publishers Weekly, Jewel Magazine, Today's Black Woman, Vibe Vixen, Quarterly Black Review, Booking Matters Magazine, Essence magazine, Ebony magazine, Black Expressions Book Club, among others.
'If Your Wife Only Knew' The story of a Kiara, a married woman, and Rashad, her womanizing husband. As she wades through his inappropriate behavior, she comes to close to enacting drastic life altering decisions. I found that Kiara's reactions were just as bad as her husbands infidelities. Which leads you to wonder, would a woman such as Kiara, a mother no less, supposedly put up with so much. I found this story to be somewhat unbelievable, filled with a childish cast and dialogue. My hope is that the maturity of the characters and the writing style improves with part two.
Have you ever read a book and sincerely wanted it to get better? I mean really try to do a "Jedi mind trick" and change the dialogue? That was sincerely my wish when reading this book. It wasn't because there were grammatical or editing errors, but it was simply immature and childish. But, since we are living in the age where folks on reality shows are "stars" and women that dress half-naked on Instagram are "models," then I'm sure there is an audience that will really love this book. It simply wasn't for me!
I dont understand women that allow their husbands to treat them any less than the Beautiful Queen she deserves to be treated as. This book depicted what a lot of married women go through just so they are not alone. I had a hard time finishing this book because I see a woman that allows her husband to knowingly cheat on her and treat her like pure shit as a weak woman. And a woman that continues to go back to a cheating man is just pathetic. I can't do it. I'd rather be alone than put up with a man that is not loyal nor respects me as his QUEEN. A man that does this to you doesn't love you at all.
Kiara Eason has been married to Rashad for close to ten years and to family and friends, they have the perfect marriage. Yet, lately Kiara’s intuition is telling her that there is more to Rashad’s lack of attention in their lives inside and outside of the bedroom than being overworked. Kiara loves her husband and will do anything to save her marriage. Confronting Rashad on her unhappiness only causes more frustration when his behavior does not change. Rashad is having a difficult time meeting Kiara’s expectations, as his mistress, Alexis McNeil, who just happens to work for Kiara, becomes more demanding of his time and commitment. Kiara has secrets of her own as she finds satisfaction in the arms of a close male friend. But secrets have consequences Kiara, Rashad, nor Alexis anticipates. So who will make the next move?
Ms. Rax pulls the reader in with her wonderful storytelling and great pacing, as explosive secrets upend the characters’ world. I enjoyed how the story becomes complex as more characters were introduced with their own agendas to muddle the issues and throwing curves to the unsuspecting characters. Kiara strives to have the American Dream, if only her husband is more attentive to her and their son. Blinded by this quest, she does not see that her husband is a womanizer and I just wanted to shake her until she got some sense. Rashad is not a likable character as even he acknowledges he is selfish when in reality it is his immature behavior that sets off a chain of revenge moves. I am so waiting for Rashad to get his comeuppance. The flawed secondary characters cleverly serve to create havoc on each other as well as Kiara and Rashad. While I was engaged in the storyline I would have liked a little less of the same angst being visited again and again.
IF YOUR WIFE ONLY KNEW is the first book in The Love & Revenge Series trilogy. The emotions and betrayals run deep in this story as the characters express their vulnerability and hurt. This book is perfect for book clubs as the actions invites readers to figure out what they would do in the various situations. I commend the author in the building of tension and suspense and taking this book to a point where I am clamoring for the next book.
I recommend this book to fans of Cydney Rax and readers who enjoy storylines with a dramatic flair.
Oh when they say the wife didn't know! The secrets in this book are many. IF YOUR WIFE ONLY KNEW is the first book in the Love and Revenge series by Cydney Rax. Kiara and Rashad Eason's marriage is not what it appears to be on the outside. Rashad is a very busy man outside of the home and it is not all at work. As Kiara slowly peels back the layers of Rashad's indiscretions, she find herself not making the best choices. These characters and the secrets they hold is a hot-bed of salacious interactions. I did find the characters naive and immature but the drama drew me in. Looking forward to the follow-up in the series.
Talk about Drama, lies, and scandalous. This was a very good book. I won a ARC and had not read it until know. I could kick myself. This book made me mad, laugh and a whole lot of Omg no he did not, or no she didn't. Men and women are trifling on a whole another level. I cannot wait to read the next one.
What a prologue!Too bad it was only a dream.Rashad was a total dog and player and I really would've liked the prologue to be true.I liked that Kiara worked as hard as she did to keep her marriage together but also had a secret special account only in her name. Some people can do that and in her case it was a smart thing. The fact that Rashad was soo unfaithful to her and had a child even and never told her makes him more of a dirty dog.He was using her money too to pay for the care of another child right under her nose.I agree with people standing up and taking care of their children but not that he was using her.He totally used her and I am glad she made him go.I wish she hadn't of done what she did with Eddison out of spite or revenge, but all kinds of stuff happens when our emotions get involved. She was making the best of the situation at the end of the book and wham----you threw that in there.I am now waiting for the next book since Rashad proved how shady he is.What an egotistical person to think that only he could ever have her!He doesn't deserve any woman or their child due to his actions.I hope Nicole smartens up as Alexis did.Alexis was happy at the end and I hope that all works out for her.Keep thinking for the next book since a few more characters will be coming into the picture for this one!
If Your Wife Only Knew by Cydney Rax was something serious. Rashad Eason was a man who wanted his cake, ice cream, and goodie bags too. He was successful, yet way too confident. His boldness was on another level.
Kiara Eason is the perfect wife who has the perfect life or so she thinks. Lately, her world has started to shake but nothing will prepare her for the moments when it all comes crumbling down!
This book paints an interesting picture of what happens when you find yourself doing something you'd never thought because your mate has more options than a drive-thru menu.
Cydney Rax brought the drama in a way that makes you wonder if everyone has gone insane. It was a very good book choice for our book of the month. She gets two thumbs up from Characters Book Club. Great job!
I don't feel bad for Rashad at all that's what he gets. I was done for at the end when he was following them. Like now you see what good you has. But you want to cheat on a good woman. Now she's with someone who actually cares, and now you're with a psychopath. Lol but you don't want her even though she meets your needs boy bye. KARMA IS A MOTHER.
I'm so glad that Kiera finally got rid of Rashad and gotten with Edison. I was praying for them to mess around. My heart was racing glad that Miles or Kiera didn't kill themselves.
God work in mysterious ways. That was God work to stop her from killing herself when Miles ran out into the street.
Even though it's a fiction but, it's not too far from the truth.
Reading this book reminded me of something that my Gramma used to always say. "When you look for trouble, it gets in your face." Kiara is hellbent on snooping on her husband's dealings. She allows her anger to propel her to another level, and even more drama ensues. The characters in this book actually remind me of some people I know, who stop at no lengths to "check" their S/O, then act shocked and appalled when they find what they were searching for. When you look for drama, you find it, and this book is certainly no exception to the rule. It's full of drama, laughs, and is a thrill read. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a "ripped" from real life read.
This book held my attention for the most part, plenty of drama and messiness. There were some unrealistic parts that were far fetched even for a work of fiction that made me give it a 3 instead of a 4. These female characters were a mess and definitely needed some help. The male characters were more believable. The way the book ended I suppose there is a follow up book. I'll probably give it a listen if it's on audio. There were some unanswered questions in this book.
Sometimes you find your life is not what you portray it to be. Rashad is just a whoremonger and he seems to not want to change his ways. Kiara has gotten fed up with her marriage. Alexis and Nicole are the side chicks but don't know how to stay in their place! There was so much drama and suspense. This was a great novel and I look forward to the next installment in The Love and Revenge series.
I won this book in a holiday extravaganza giveaway and I loved it. This book was full of drama from beginning to end. You never knew what was going to happen next. Rashad is married to Kiara but can't keep from being unfaithful with people Kiara has to see on a regular and he doesnt seem to know the meaning of protection. This was a great start to new series and can't wait for part 2.
copy received through Netgalley This story did not hold my attention. within the first couple of chapters. I started skimming. I thought the dialogue was childish. the characters were a bit immature. if you like a book full of drama, selfishness and disloyalty, this will work for you. just ok for me.
I listened to this on audiobook. This was a decent read, but the ending was not only anticlimactic, but it kind of left it open ended. Rashad was a crap husband and person and Kiara stuck around for the foolishness for way too long.
Not a bad story for my first time reading this author. I got a copy from the library and read it for an online book discussion. Now I have to Wait until August to find out what happens next.
This book was a good read, I stayed in the book and pretty much didn't put it down for 2 days..except when I had to. I gave the book 4 stars because at some points the flow of the story felt unclear each paragraph went back and forth between different individuals when I felt a new chapter should have began. Also the story felt rushed. It felt like something's were missing. The book should have spoken more about Rashes and the lack of empathy/disconnect with reality. Overall good read though.
Not enough violence for me. The twists and turns are decent, but the drama was corny and the resolutions to the problems were not "real life" endings. Kiara was entirely too calm when she found out about her husbands affairs, someone should have been hanging from a tree after Kiara got wind of his despicable indiscretions.
Cydney Rax keeps you on edge. This book would definitely make a good drama. The characters are something else. The only thing is I would have liked to understand Glynis and Alexis more, i got the gist of it yet i think that it is a story of its on. Kiara and Rashad whew they are alot to cope with.
This book lacked realism in a lot of ways. While I do appreciate the hope and faith aspect of the story the main character was written as a bit of a flake from the very beginning. This book had way too many moving parts and storylines that made the it unrealistic.
This book was sooo good. Beginning to end ! Kiara just wanted to make it work , Alexis just wanted something to call her own , and nicole led by the heart . 3 women 1 men and they all shared a drama bond. A must read.
COULD BE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW! CATION! DON"T READ IF YOU DON"T WNT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE YOU READ IT>
That prologue, in the beginning, had me so confused. In the end, I thought that we (as the readers) get to see who Kiara punch out. But end the end she punches no one. Like in the world what was the purpose? I want to know smh. And Rashad thought he was going to get his cake and eat it too humph karma a B-word isn't it. Men don't like when their women cheat but think its okay for them to cheat. I was so glad that Kiara left Rashad wack ***. He wasn't a real man. As Nicole tried to say and I was glad that Alexis finally moved on to because she definitely didn't deserve what Rashad did to her either. But Nicole I'm a skip on past her looney ***. Plus in the end, I was happy Kiara got with Eddison she needs some new stuff in her life because Rashad wasn't it. Plus Lil Miles liked Eddison and that's a plus. And that ending had me a little scared because I thought Miles was going to die. But I believe he knew what was going on with his parent's kids aren't stupid as people think.
