Newlywed Serena Jackson has finally married the man of her dreams. Life is great, broken relationships are on the mend, and serving in ministry is better than ever before. Serena believes that even greater things are on the horizon for her, until her life makes a detour down an unexpected road. Her dream of having the perfect life with what God has blessed her with soon becomes a blur.
Everything Serena holds dear to her heart is being snatched away from her. Silenced by her pain and betrayed by the love of her life, Serena's own life-altering decisions will rock her family to the core. She questions whether the God she's served most of her life is really for her. Was everything she worked for all in vain?
Unfortunately I didn't like this book very much. To be women of God, the women in this book really put me off. Now don't get me wrong, I know just because you are saved everything does not come easy, but when I read where there is a life and death situation involving a prophetess and a pastor and the it says "prayer is not an option at this time" that truly shook me up. As a Christian prayer is Always an option. Now whether or not you choose to exercise that option is up to us, but to put the characters in a situation like that one and say that it was not an option in a title that is Christian fiction floored me.
I'm thinking maybe because I accidentally read the sequel first maybe I didn't connect with the characters enough to truly like them or invest in them. I kinda just wanted their story to be over. There were some parts I really liked about the story. I liked that Nathaniel and James worked with disadvantaged youth and I even liked how Trina was always there for her friend Melissa. And even when Melissa was wrong Trina didn't mind letter her know but she still was a friend to stick by her side in even the worst of circumstances. The issues of forgiveness in the midst of trying situations really came through with Serena's story.
Unfortunately what I didn't like outweighed all of that. 1st Nathaniel cried to much for me. I think he cried more than Serena who was the one carrying a burden. And Prophetess Serena... well let's just say she was dealing with a lot so i'll cut her some slack. I really meant to quit after the first chapters because it started off with everybody getting upset about what I do not know. So I was afraid the rest of the book was going to be disconnected. But I kept reading because I wanted to find out what was going to happen. But unfortunately I just couldn't like or identify with any of the characters. I guess a sequel is in the works because there were a lot of unanswered questions.
That being said, praises out to author Lacha M. Scott. I support my sisters for following their dreams and seeing their blessing come to pass.
This book was amazimg. The story told for each character was refreshing, it was funny, and other was sad. The emotions were all over the place for me. I could have cubed in the pages and punched some lights out. I wanted to fight, scream, shout and do a hallelujah jig. The twists and turns had me going. The detail that was put into the storyline was on point. Church folk are predictable in so many ways. As I got to the end, it reminded me of the story of David and the consequences he faced. I loved it.
I am glad I hung in there and finished this one. The beginning was a little rough and seemed to be a first-time effort. There was a lot of wailing and I've never heard so much about men crying in my life. But after a while the story picked up and even got somewhat good. If you like Love & Hip Hop type drama, you'll like it.
Prophet Serena dealing with getting cancer again, being Peking pregnant but don’t want to take chemotherapy cause it will harm the unborn baby and want the baby to have a full life replace of hers. Her husband Nathanial cheated on her with a woman name Melissa in the church whom he know that wanted him, gotten her pregnant but they ended up losing their child together.
I truly enjoyed this read and how the author allowed the characters to have their way in this book...how they were more edgy and their transparency was on point...full of shockers, laughter, and a few tears. The many trials and tribulations incorporated in "Up Pops The Devil" are real life issues but the power of Christ is one to be reckoned with, the one to lean on in any hour. Thank you Lacha for sharing Serena's story; her courageous strength to make solid decisions in the midst of her storm. She definitely kept her Faith In God. #Triumph #Victory #AwesomeBook
Up Pops the Devil is the sequel to Speak of the devil. I enjoyed the book and it left me with a lot of unanswered questions so I am anticipating another book in this series. Up pop the Devil was a great title for this story, because the devil was popping up everywhere in everyone's relationship. You have to have a strong faith to go through what these characters endured.
