Mecca is forced to fend for herself. She learns to play with the hand she was dealt, but who will be left standing in the end? In Mecca's world, everyone is suspect, and no one can be trusted, not even family. When the truth is revealed to her, it is up to Mecca to decide if she'll do the right thing and lead a life of righteousness, or continue to walk down the same dark path as her aunt.

When you find out you can't even trust the ones you love, what is your next step? For Mecca, it appears that Lou has rehabilitation in mind, but that's not the road she wants to take. After surviving a near death experience at the hands of her ex-boyfriend and finding out the truth about her beloved Aunt Ruby, Mecca's mind is only set on one thing--revenge. The thing is, when the players are more powerful than you, you have to come up with a plan B.

Mecca is trying to lead a normal life and get out from under her aunt's hold. Ruby, on the other hand, has other plans, whether or not Mecca wants to go along with them. With their bond already severed, it's only a matter of time before the secrets that were brought to light will completely tear them apart. Mecca is ready for action, and Ruby is ready to fight for her own, but who will win?

About the author

Anna J. started writing as a child, creating short stories in her creative writing classes. This later turned into writing poetry in high school. In her early twenties she entered a short story contest, and her first work of fiction "Stories To Excite You: Menage Quad" was published. Always an avid reader, Anna J. saw a void in the industry. The types of books she wanted to read hadn't been written yet. With that in mind, she penned her first book "My Woman His Wife", published in 2004, which quickly became an Essence Magazine best seller. Anna J went on to pen 12 novels. She also participated in 9 short story compilations, and self-published 9 works of fiction.

This was a pretty different tale from the hood. It recounted many horrible scenes that could have occurred in countless cities similar to the Brownsville neighborhood of New York. It is amazing how drug dealers can buy Benzes, cars and all of the finer things with minimal repercussions from the feds. Mecca had been wronged numerous times in her life. After watching her Mother and Father be murdered, a perilous journey begins. The beginning of bloody chapters seemed like a funny place to put Bible verses. Not a single character went to church. Even the funerals were in a funeral home. I thought the dream scenarios were different when as the plot unfolded. The last chapter made me think of the Wizard of Oz.

This book was not what I expected at all, but I liked the twist. It will catch you off guard, that's for sure
