Librarian Note: This series has been renumbered, currently this is book #2 (former book #1)
Fierce Scottish werebear Rhys Macaulay isn't looking for a mate. Hell, he's just adjusting to being an Alpha Guardian... and to living in 2015 New Orleans. The moment he lays eyes on curvy blond Echo, his whole universe realigns, and Rhys finds himself with a new set of priorities.
Claim. Mate. Protect.
One little problem: Echo is fated for more than warming Rhys's bed. She's a powerful medium in her own right, able to communicate with ghosts from the past. But more power means more enemies, and soon Echo draws an adversary of her own. When Voodoo king Pere Mal discovers Echo's special talents, he will stop at nothing to get what he wants...
Even if he destroys Echo, Rhys, and the entire world in the process.
This is the first full-length book in the Alpha Guardians series. See No Evil is an action-packed, pulse-pounding tale. Blending elements of urban fantasy and paranormal romance, this book is sure to satisfy BBW and shifter romance lovers. Happily Ever After Guaranteed!
This is my first read by Vivian Wood and I was impressed. This was a well written story, with an interesting twist and I look forward to reading more.
So why a 3* if I was impressed - two things that kept me wondering throughout the story:
1. Where was Mere Marie?. She made her few appearances but when Echo was introduced into the story, she was noticeably absent. Mere Marie was supposed to be powerful and their boss, she was supposed to be leading them and guiding them, yet she played no important part in the story except to give them a sword to kill Pere Mal.
2.Echo had her TSTL moment when she went to Pere Mal- I was sooooo hoping to never again read a romance where there was a TSTL heroine but alas this wish was not granted!!!!!. Echo I could not relate to, I wanted more from her, I wanted to see a side of her that would make me like her, she just kept doing stupid things.
Rhys was an okay hero, I didn't fall in love with him, I didn't feel a connection with him, Yes he was good looking and had a fantastic body but what else was there to him?.
Overall a good start to this series, I will be reading more from Vivian Wood, I just wanted more to this book to rate it higher.
Its been a good long while since i have stayed up until the weest of hours only to wake up a few hours later just to finish a book.
See No Evil is a unique, richly filled adventure of paranormal, and romance. And it was so amazingly executed and a delight to read. The characters were brilliant, interesting and fun to read about. I am utterly intrigued by some of the side characters in this book and i know they get their own books so words do not express how excited i am to start reading those.
The overall plot of the book and what will happen in the series is fantastic. It's a unique idea, and the setting of the paranormal world created here is awesome. I love the setting, and the passion the author obviously has for New Orleans. I had never been there before in my life but i could practically imagine being there, and through her love and obvious history with it, it felt familiar.
okay i would spend more time on this review but honestly i think this is something if you are a paranormal lover you NEED to pick up! immediately, right now. stop second guessing yourself and just do it. because i am off to read the second one :P
3.5 stars Better understood if you have read the prequel EVIL ABOUNDS. Not as great a start as I hope but still a very engaging read. 3 very different men from different times in history given a chance to come to modern day New Orleans to help fight an evil Voodoo priest. We learn so much more in this book about what is happening and meet the evil that will need to be fought and vanquished. Rhys was hunky and adapting well to being in modern times. His guilt over his past was understandable but misplaced. Echo was interesting with her powers but did the typical TSTL moment which annoys the hell out of me. WHY go anywhere near Pere mal. Lots of good banter and the camaraderie is slowly building in the team. I hope more characters will be introduced and this series will continue.
DARKLY COMPELLING AND COMPLETELY CAPTIVATING !!! Title: See No Evil Series: Alpha Guardians Designation: Book Two (Novella, Not a Standalone) Author: Vivian Wood My Rating: FIVE MAGICKAL STARS **** Wow! This is my first time reading Vivian Wood's work but must say, I'm definitely impressed. After reading Evil Abounds, the first book and introduction to this series, I knew this would be an adventure of a lifetime and could hardly wait for the next book. See No Evil is the brilliant continuation of the Alpha Guardians Series and features fierce Scottish werebear warrior Rhys Macaulay and beautiful witch/medium Echo Caballero. The story is filled to the brim with danger, spine-tingling action, suspense and seductive romance. The dialogue has a few editing errors but overall, the story is well done and flows smoothly. I must admit, my favorite element is the characters. I know, the characters are always my favorite part of every story but what can I say? I'm always a sucker for great characters. And these are great! They are captivating, engaging, endearing and sexy as sin. The backstory for each of the three guardians was given in the prequel, so many of our questions have already been answered. However, there are still enough remaining questions to make each subsequent book more than just a little interesting. I, for one, look forward to learning more about our three enigmatic heroes, their mates and their "mistress".
An evil is brewing in the mysterious city of New Orleans and it brings a dangerous enemy, one so horrendously evil that it will take three courageous heroes plucked from the past to protect the city. All three are powerful bear shifters chosen for their bravery and skill by Mere Marie, a powerful, centuries old voodoo priestess who seeks to protect not only New Orleans but the entire human race from Pere Mal and his evil machination to lift the barrier between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Oh my!
See No Evil begins the journey of our three unlikely heroes. Scottish werebear warrior, Rhys Macaulay is finding it not only difficult but quite daunting trying to adjust to the twenty first century. He spends his days training and his nights patrolling the streets of New Orleans. He lost his clan and the woman he once loved and certainly has no interest in the women of this century. They confuse and baffle him but Rhys soon discovers that fate can never be denied and neither can his attraction for beautiful Echo Caballero. Echo is a witch/medium who despises her abilities and only wishes to be human. She never knew her father and lost her mother when only a child. Now she has no one other than her mother's childhood friend, Tee-Elle. But apparently Echo is the "first light" which makes her a target for Pere Mal and his evil plan. Pere Mal sends his henchmen to kidnap Echo but the three Alpha Guardians are dispatched by Mere Marie to rescue her. Rhys Macaulay immediately recognizes Echo as his true mate which is more than a little surprising since he isn't even from this century. But it seems the independent and very stubborn Echo has a problem accepting his help and his domineering attitude. Oh my! Sparks fly! Attraction builds! Desires ignite! Passions blaze! Oh my goodness! Will Rhys and his fellow guardians be able to rescue Echo before it's too late? Or will Echo sacrifice herself to protect Rhyst? Hmmm...I wonder? Sexy alpha Scottish warrior-check! Beautiful, stubborn witch/medium-check! Three handsome sexy bear shifters saved from certain death in the past and relocated to the present to become the Alpha Guardians of New Orleans-check! Danger, drama, adventure, suspense, magic, voodoo and great evil-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, heartbreaking angst, sweet romance, true mates and steamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Each subsequent release will feature all the characters introduced in the prequel but will also include a separate love interest in each book for one of our heroes and will most likely culminate in a true mate bonding. Simply brilliant! I love it! I an hardly wait to read the rest of this series! This is NOT a standalone story but the first book of the Alpha Guardian Series by Vivian Wood. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Scottish werebear Rhys meets Echo, a curvy medium targeted by enemies. The story blends romance, danger, and supernatural suspense with steamy alpha dynamics and emotional stakes.

Gripping-enthralling well written read by a gifted author. The imagination behind this story is impressive, and beyond fascinating. I felt like I was watching a movie filled with special effects. Every word held my attention till the end. I loved it, and can't wait for the next book. In the paranormal world the possibilities are endless, and always fascinating... {I received a romance arc for an honest review}. Without reservations I highly recommend this book, the author, and of course the series.
See No Evil: Bear Rebel Alpha Guardians Book1 By Vivian Wood ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I was given this book to read and write a honest review. I have fallen in love this is Magnificent Series! OMG I love Vivian Wood's series I haven't read all of her books but can tell you I intend to. She has created a Alpha series with a great imagination and she tells it with magical words that makes you want more. The storyine is so fascinating with humor, lots of action, scorching hot sex, fated mates and romance. The characters charming, engaging, intriguing and awesome.
The story is in New Orleans French Quarter and around the cemetery's, buildings house, world of magic and the supernatural. There is Mere Marie and her band of warriors that means to protect the New Orleans from the evil Pere Mal. Rhys Macaulay is from 18th century and is a Scotsman and bear shifter, he is the first Guardian that Mere Marie chose Rhys accepted her proposal to save his people but he had no idea that it change his life. On a mission one day he saw his mate but he wasn't sure he wanted one but the mating pull is to strong. This is a Magnificent Fun Read. I highly recommend this series!!
See No Evil, An Alpha Guardians Series, Book 1 by Vivian Wood
The book was just awesome! See No Evil was a vividly woven story with spectacular details. I was once again lured into An Alpha Guardians Series, and it kept my attention. The novel was well paced, and descriptive. Yes, I found enough romance, drama, conflicts, action, and suspense to keep my interest.
The main characters in the story are Rhys Macaulay (Alpha Guardian, Scottish werebear warrior) and Echo Caballero (BBW witch/medium). Rhys was the first Alpha Guardian to find his mate. What do they both gain from being mates? How will they survive? How will they stop Pere Mal and his minions?
Voodoo king Dominic "Pere Mal" Malveaux has evil plans set in place. Why does he want to lift the veil? What are his plans for the Three Lights?
The dynamic characters in the novel have depth, and were intriguing. The setting was so realistic that I could imagine Echo running into Rhys arms after fleeing a bolt-hole. Fortunately, they get a happily ever after.
You'll just have to read the series find out more. I just can't wait to read the next book: Hear No Evil, An Alpha Guardians Series, Book 2 by Vivian Wood. I received a free copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
This was so intriguing, mysterious and romantic in this book the Alpha Guardians have been around for about one year protecting the city Mere Mal has decided that he wants to open the Veil and in order to do so he has determined that he would need to find the three light witches the first Echo Caballero he finds by chance and has one of his flunky's go after her just before she is caught the guardians come on the scene and Rhys realizes he has just seen his fated mate when she is crabbed and in a puff is gone Rhys the werebear is so upset that he shifts in broad daylight but Gabriel and Aeric bring him back and calm him because he has to have her they decide that they are going to wait because the flunky took her through a bolt hole and they could never find where it came out at so they wait and sure enough Echo comes out of the bolt hole right in front of them and Rhys is there and she falls in his arms crying and he comforts her and they take her back to the their house so that they talk to her and protect her and Rhys makes sure that she is staying on his floor of the house and that none of the others put their hands on her because she is his. Echo has her own ideas. This is Rhys and Echo's story and the evil, threats and violence that they had to go through to be together. Good story. I received a copy for an honest review.
This is Rhys' story, I had the pleasure of reading the Prequel for this series and I was excited to get to read this one. The author knows just how to blend, sassy, hot and smart and bring to you a fun book with characters you will enjoy.
Its about 150 pages, not a cliff hanger but its not a stand alone. It will be well worth your wee bit of time to grab them all.
Rhys is pure alpha and from another time, he hasn't quiet adjusted to the Modern yet. I don't think he is actually trying that hard. (smile) He and the other guardians are sent out to looks for a light.
Echo (loved her name btw) has been tamping down her powers, so as not to draw attention to herself. Well when she gets snagged but some evil henchmen, all bets are off. Echo is young, unsure and uncontrolled.
Someone tells her if she mates she will give up her power, someone says her mate is her conductor her balancer. How does she choose, will she be able to choose?
A quick fun read, likable characters and I look forward in reading the next one in the series. I recommend it and Enjoy.
it took me a while to get started on this series but after having read the prequel i was very much interested in reading the rest (who are now all on the short list). just over one year it has been where the alpha guardians have been living, training and working together under the watchful eye of their Mistress. rhys wasn't looking for anyone in particular but when they're called in to look at the disappearance of an elderly woman, he almost loses it when his eyes land on Echo. his bear going into full protect mode giving his fellow guardians a hard time to keep him under control. going from one drama to another disaster he can't help but feel compelled towards the curvaceous woman and he's willing to do anything to keep her safe and close. only pere mal has other ideas about that as he's plotting his own little schemes and he needs echo because she's a key to start it all!
join the guardians as they start the fight where they all traveled through time for and along the way manage to find their better half (they can be a moody bunch!) a captivating, fast paced read that i couldn't put down until i reached the last page!
I am enjoying the series. Rhys is a bear shifter and a Higlander brought to the future to defend the world from evil. He has only been in New Orleans for a year and is adjusting with the two other Guardians to their new roles. Echo is in the process of being kidnapped when he meets her for the first time. He knows immediately she is his mate and wants to protect her from danger. She is tied very much to his mission. It is a harder job than he thought and he must also fight his instincts to claim his mate immediately. Echo has a sad past and has tried to hide her abilities but realizes that it is no longer possible. She has to learn how to control them so she isn't controlled by others that would misuse them for their own purposes. Her attraction to Rhys is unexpected. There is still a lot of secrets about her mother yet to be revealed that sound very interesting. I look forward to reading the stories of the other guardians meeting their mates.I received a copy in return for a honest review.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. After reading the prequel, I was expecting great things from this author, and she certainly did not disappoint. In this episode, we are introduced to Echo. She is a medium/witch, and when she runs from Pere Mal's henchmen, she literally runs into the arms of Rhys. As soon as he lays eyes on her, he knows she is his fated mate. Now his biggest problem is how to break it to her. So much action in this episode that you definitely don't want to miss out on it. The plot continues to thicken as they search to bring Pere Mal down, putting an end to the risk of all worlds as we know them. We are left with a slight cliff hanger, but hope that the next episode will simply continue with the tale as we wait for the other two guardians to find their other halves. Ms. Wood has a wonderful imagination, and her ability to spin a tale such as this one is a wonderful gift. I am looking forward to reading the next part in this saga.
Unfortunately this one just wasn't for me. It was too short so the story went by too fast. But the one thing that killed this story for me? Insta-love. Yes, the dreaded inst-love. On the first glance too. . . I shit you not. I get the whole "mate" thing but I also like when they get the connection, and the protectiveness, and the need for their mate, but not necessarily magically fall in love on the first glance. I want a build up. I want tension. I want the goodies!
And I think the whole premise of the story is good but just wasn't executed well. Again, I think if the author made the story a little longer and built up the hero and heroines relationship and gave more world building and backstory then this could've been a lot better. It was missing the "meat" I crave in my reads!
Overall I was disappointed with this read. It was my first book by Vivian Wood and though I didn't like See No Evil I think she has the talent to wow me so I may give her another shot. If you're looking for a short, sweet, paranormal romance with insta-love then give this one a go, you'd like it!
Rhys Macauley is a bear shifter from the Scottish Highlands from several hundred years ago. He was brought to present-day New Orleans to be an Alpha Guardian and to help fight against VooDoo king Pere Mal. He didn't expect to find his mate in the process. Echo is a medium who can communicate with ghosts. When she finds out she's Rhys's mate and a key in Pere Mal's evil plan, she's not sure what to make of it. Will they survive the upcoming battle? I really enjoyed this book, the first in a series by an author that's new to me. While the overall concept of alpha males protecting a city isn't exactly new, putting the time pull spin into it helped to make it unique. I liked getting to watch Rhys and Echo as they got to know each other and accept each other as mates. I also really liked the overall storyline that will continue with the next book. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
Vivian Wood has created a fascinating series with very good guys, and very bad ones, that keeps you wanting for more.
Set in New Orleans amongst the mausoleums, old buildings, and world of the paranormal, Mere Marie and her warriors set out to protect the Crescent City from the evil Pere Mal an his minions.
One of the Alpha Guardians, Rhys Macaulay, 18th century Scotsman and bear shifter, had to make a decision to save his people that would change his life forever. Now finding himself in a time and place he does not understand, he has to get with the program fast, or die trying.
Hot sex, furious fights, and "fated mates", makes this a fun read. I was given this book for an honest review.
Loved it! Rhys a guardian bear shifter pulled from his time in the past to save his people and serve & protect modern day New Orleans and its people. When he meets Echo his life changes. Echo is a medium who can speak to ghosts and more important than she knows. A voodo king takes notice of her and decides he has to have her to complete his plan. He stops and nothing to try and acquire her. Rhys has his hands full trying to save Echo and falling for her at the same time. This suspenseful and romantic story will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I was given this e-book by the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. My conclusions are my own. I was not compensated in any way.
I received this Arc from romance arcade for an honest review . Another fantastic piece of writing in the Alpha Guardian Series. This story does not disappoint It has complex strong willed characters who fight against Pere Mal a voodoo priest who is intent on opening the veil. This story takes place in present time while the hero Rhys is from circa 1764. Pere Mal is in search of The Three Lights. Echo is a medium and the First Light. Rhys rescues Echo and realizes they are mates. Can they foil Pere Mal, rescue the people close to Echo he has captured and stop being so head strong? This is definitely a must read I give it a 5 star. Can't wait for book 2.
I received this book from Romance ARCade in return for a fair and honest review.
This is the story of Echo and Rhys. Although this is set in present time, Rhys is actually from 1700s though he has adjusted very well. Echo is a witch who doesn't want to be so uses a powder to stop her abilities from overwhelming her.
This is a very well-written and fast-moving story, giving an insight into both Echo and Rhys as well as the Alpha Guardians as a whole. The plot is interesting in that there is a whole paranormal side to New Orleans, good vs evil.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book I have read from this Author. It was great! Rhys and Echo have some awesome chemistry! Once their eyes meet they have this amazing pull to each other despite the danger surrounding them at their first meeting. The story continues with their fight against the evil that comes their way. It is a story with a steamy romance, high emotions as you wonder what happens next and the scenes are so detailed you feel like you are fighting alongside the guardians. It is a page tuner that keeps your attention from beginning to end and I can't wait to read the next story.
Wow, great start. Loved the prequel and really enjoyed this book. Rhys is a werebear Alpha Guardian in service to Mere Marie to protect New Orleans. He meets his mate right away "Echo" and has to work through mating, saving the city, and saving Echo. Really liked the how the story developed and the background that the author shows us. Echo is a powerhouse on her own and can help the Guardians. Can't wait to read about Gabriel and Aeric and their mates!!! This author has a few more series - darn looking like I'm going to be 1-clicking quite a few more books from her! I was given an ARC for an honest review. Lucky me.
n the alpha guardians book 1 we see Echo is the 1st light. 1 of 3 woman need to rip the Vail open between here and the spirit world. Rhys is one of the Guardians, who lives now in the city of New Orleans Pere Mal the powerful evil being. Who wants to rule all with his powers and that of his fearsome ancestors he would be unstoppable.
Great new story I love the twist of the Guardians, not only do they come from all over the place but also from all over time. They were all gathered to protect new Orleans and the 3 lights ( woman ) I can't wait to see what happens in the next book! Book gifted for an honest review and I honestly loved it.
4.5 Stars This is the first full length book in the alpha guardians series, I would have given it 5 stars but Echo the heroine had a couple of extremely dense stupid moments and i have problems with stupid heroines. It's like the part in a horror movie when the young beautiful girl walks into a dark ally and you know she is going to die,Echo made me roll my eyes and ask why would you do something so stupid but aside from that this was well written and very entertaining.I loved the premise of the guardians and although this author is new to me i definitely look forward to reading more of this and other series.
After reading the prequel I knew that these books were going to be awesome reads. What is it about a Scottish Highlander that gets our blood pumping and our imagination run riot. Well, it's understandable when that Highlander is as hot as Rhys. I for one am extremely looking forward to find out how the other two bad boys fare. The author Vivian Wood has managed to entrance us with a unique tale of shifters and magic and I have yet to decide which of the three guardians will be my next book boyfriend. Heck, can I have them all? I was gifted a copy in return for an honest review
Rhys & Echo's story is filled with lots of New Orleans influence & flavor; Echo is the 1st of 3 Lights that are trying not to help the bad guy.
Rhys is 1 of the 3 Guardians that Mere Marie brings from the past to the present to help fight Pere Mal (the bad guy) in this story.
Rhys & Echo meet as Pere Mal's henchmen were trying to capture her & of course Rhys knew right away that she's his mate. This is a HEA story with some sex, fighting & shifting. The good vs bad plot is why I'm rating this as a very good book.
Getting to you through the one’s you love Pere Mal is trying to find the three lights to aid in opening the Veil for his purpose of gaining power. He doesn’t care what else comes through. But the three lights are people not objects and one of them is Echo who also happens to be Rhy’s mate, or possible future mate. Self contained story yet part of a series. Well written and very interesting and entertaining to read.
Received the book for an honest review. See No Evil is book one in the Alpha Guardians series. This book is about Rhys, a bear shifter and his would be mate, Echo who is a witch. Rhys discovers that Echo is his true mate. Is he ready for that kind of commitment when he is indebted to Mere Marie to help her keep evil from destroying New Orleans?? The story is very well written with the makings of a great paranormal romance. Ms. Wood does not disappoint.
A great start to the series but one thing where was Mere Marie? She was pretty much not in it at all. Otherwise would have given 5. I have some suspicion considering what Happened with the mate thing and playing things out and the contract made me wondering. Can't say much more to it but I really can't wait for Aerics story. Loved the story though and I wonder if echo will become or is now immortal?
