Wounded Navy SEAL Luke Dunham's only goal is returning to active duty…until he rescues his physical therapist from a lethal attack. Now he'll risk everything—even his recovery—to keep Mandy Berg's attacker at bay. Mandy's been burned before when she trusted the wrong man. And she knows better than to develop feelings for one of her patients. Yet how can she help falling for a man who does not hesitate to put his strength, his skill and his very life in harm's way to keep her safe? Relying on anyone feels dangerous…but turning away Luke's protection could be deadly.
Men of Valor: These Navy SEALs were born to excel…
Navy SEAL Security was really good, although slightly predictable. I guessed pretty much right away who Mandy's attacker was and so the reveal wasn't surprising at all.
I found the romance to be sweet. I loved how Luke pushed through his pain to protect Mandy and even risked re-injuring himself at times. Very heroic.
All in all, Navy SEAL Security was a great story and I've really been enjoying this series.

There's something about a wounded navy SEAL that has me all twitterpated! Luke is the perfect hero -- slightly brooding, a little bitter but completely unable to turn his back on a damsel in distress. Even if that damsel tries to brush off his help. But as the danger increases, Mandy comes to rely on Luke and he's determined to protect her. Sinister suspense, an intriguing romance and a captivating romance all combine to make this one very exciting page-turner of a read.
I enjoyed this story and liked both of the main characters, although I didn't feel like I got to know them on a really deep level. Mandy's reticence made sense with her past and didn't feel stuck in for the sake of conflict, which I really appreciated. And Luke's protectiveness, even with his limited physical ability, was amazing! Actually, their mutual protectiveness of each other was probably my favorite part of the book. <3
The action and danger was definitely intense, although I did guess the villain pretty early on. (Probably more from a long history of Nancy Drew books than anything else. :P) The only thing that bugged me a bit was Mandy's tendency to put up walls and then treat Luke's respecting of them as evidence that he didn't care for her in the way she cared for him. Grrrr...
Overall, a nice, clean romance with a good dose of edge-of-your-seat danger. 3.5 stars
Content--multiple attempts at murder, including vehicle accidents, fires, shootings, etc.; mentions of a woman falling in love with an engaged man and a married man trying to rekindle a romantic relationship; mention of a suicide; a few kisses
Someone wants to scare Mandy Berg into submission. Who and why remains a mystery.
Until . . . . . a wounded Navy SEAL approaches Dr. Berg for her reputation as a highly skilled physical therapist; Luke Dunham is convinced she is his last chance of improving his knee's range of motion; ultimately allowing him to re-enter active duty. After experiencing one of Mandy's near death experiences first hand, Luke is convinced that he can help her expose a dangerous stalker. Can they form a mutually beneficial alliance or will Mandy's past mistakes with patient/therapist relations keep Luke at an unhealthy distance?
This intriguing romantic suspense has several red herrings and plenty of reasons to pay attention to the details until the very end.
Utter. Garbage. Yet again- this is my *FOURTH* 'Men of Valor' book, and... it just doesn't get better. Ever. Not ever. Not kidding. But I have the series in a box, and can't just chuck them without at least an attempt...
In yet another rip-off of Suzanne Brockmann's SEAL heroes, Liz Johnson this time swipes from Brockmann's book, "Frisco's Kid", in which the hero's knee is destroyed on a mission overseas, and he's desperate to get back into shape and into the teams. Only this time Mia is Mandy... not that there's a huge stretch there, but then Johnson's steals are blatant.
So TWO YEARS ago, someone tried to steal Mandy's identity. They opened credit cards in her name, racked up debt on her... and then tried to steal her professional license, too. Then we're told someone has been in her apartment, but the author is always so ridiculously obtuse, she can't tell us if THAT was two years ago, or two weeks ago, or both or neither... we don't know. It's oh-so-unclear. Because grrrrrrrreat writing.
Anyhow, it almost sounds like all of that happened two years ago, and she reported it, and a detective was assigned to look into it, but... that went nowhere? We run with that, and fast forward to today (well, 2017, when this was written). After TWO YEARS, the criminal is ba-ack. With no rhyme or reason as to why there was a TWO YEAR space in the middle of things. It's stupid.
Mandy is THE bestest physical therapist in the entire universe, and Luke hasta-gotta-must-must-MUST have her for his PT. Because he wants in the teams, again, a la 'Frisco's Kid'. And he can't imagine life without the teams. Nevermind that the longevity of a SEAL career is about ten years. Whatever.
Then the author absurdly tells us that Luke - who is ADAMANT about getting back on the teams - tells her to NOT call him Petty Officer... because he's "one signature away from being kicked out". One signature away from being OUT is still IN, in the book of someone who so desperately wants to stay on the teams, and he would NEVER tell her to drop his rank because he was gonna lose it. BAD, bad, horribly stupid writing!!!
But Mandy is tooooooo busy to take him on. She's busy getting flowers from Gary, and then nearly being run over in the parking lot, then having Gary visit her, then having her break lines cut in her car and the emergency break taken out in the offing...
... Anyhow, Luke *NEEDS* a mission, and Mandy's got a baddie on her backside! HERO TO THE RESCUE!! And all of this stuff comes down in TWO. DAYS. No, I'm not kidding. Because 'Love, Inspired Suspense'. And it definitely would totally be THAT fast.
But I'm not complaining. It's not like Johnson has her doing much of anything, otherwise. She saw absolutely ZERO patients that second day - except Luke, who she couldn't see, but now is seeing as her patient. Because **Stellar!!** writing! Kind of like Jess, who spent days moving beakers around a lab? Mandy's version of the-awesomest-PT-ever is to 'do paperwork'. (((sigh.)))
Pg 18: Beautiful, sweet-smelling white roses... from GARY. GAH, "the roses stank..." SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Roses don't change their aroma based on the giver. The writing...!!!
Then we have Luke, who 'has kept in top shape by working with resistance bands and anything else he could manage from his bed or a chair' who breaks out in a cold sweat pushing a wheelchair across a paved parking lot I kid you not. This isn't writing, it's pitiable.
So then the author starts introducing the potential baddie identities, by saying that Gary was married to a psycho who goes off her meds often and hates Mandy. So we have second-hand suspect revelations that are oh-so-believable, coming from a stalker ex-boyfriend?! Seriously? And that's credible information in a book. Since... when? As he threatens to sic the psycho on Mandy? (((O_o)))
Not that anyone believes it's the second-hand psycho or the obvious boyfriend - we all know from page EIGHTEEN that the killer is Tara. It's so badly, BADLY written...!!! GAH.
Okay and then the no-brakes, high-speed terror scene: Luke is chasing down Mandy in her no-brakes car, helps her to find a 'gravel runaway truck ramp' for her to crash on (WHY did she never put the car in neutral, btw? Or try to snag in the grasses on the edge of the road, to slow down?)
Then the author decides that in 2017, the SUV has no AIR BAGS (!!!! wtfarts?!), and she bashes her head, is bleeding profusely ("classic head wound, bleeds like crazy")... but when the cops/EMTs arrive, nobody carts her over to the ambulance or CALLS an ambulance, even though she's likely concussed and is "cradling her arm against her chest"?
No, she walks away with the SEAL's shirt pressed to her still-bleeding head, and isn't checked out at all. Riiiiiiiiight. Additionally, wouldn't her 'detective' have been notified, and brought to the scene? Guess that's asking a lot of the author...
We're told that Mandy has never met 'anyone like Luke'. Except she's a PT in San Diego - the city with THE HIGHEST number of Navy enlisted and SEALs in the United States... so I'm sorry, but pretty boy, baby-face, glint in their eyes soldiers are *NOT* new to Mandy, regardless of which bridge Johnson is trying to sell you. It's laughable.
Then on 62 we have Mandy SOOOOOOO exhausted that she couldn't *possibly* do her job, so she tells the receptionist to let the next patient know it's going to be an additional ten minutes (um, PEOPLE HAVE LIVES - she is NOT an admirable, inspirational character!).
As for Luke's injury, he GOT BLOWN UP... his knee was 'shredded' and we're told he was lacerated all up and down his left side. But then pg 70 we're told he has *ONE* raised scar on his knee. That's it. WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FARTS?!?! If his knee was shredded? It'd be WAY worse than that. But as in all sugarplum gumdrop rainbow fluffy 'Love Inspired' novels, you can rest assured that he makes a FULL recovery. By the grace o'Gawd, of course. Because Gawd don't never let none o'His own have lasting injuries.
At least Brockmann's knee injury remains at the end, and Frisco comes to accept it and goes on to teach at the Naval training facility. Here? FULL RECOVERY, back to normal, all is hunky-dory, baby...!!
I know, because I jumped to the epilogue after pg 70 and spared myself screaming and throwing the book. Oh, the time I just saved...!!
Luke and Mandy meet when Luke come to her office for physical therapy after his knee injury due to an IED. He's worried he won't be able to return as an active SEAL and she's determined to keep her distance due to her past. However they end up coming to an agreement when Luke learns someone is targeting her. While I liked the characters, in particular Luke, some of their reactions to events felt unrealistic. It was hard to believe that Luke would have been able to do everything he did with his injury and not make it worse. And with the number of near death experiences Mandy went through in a matter of days, I think she wasn't as cautious as someone probably would be. There was very little faith mentioned in this story.
This is the first book written by Liz Johnson that I have read. From almost the beginning it was filled with lots of action as Mandy and Luke try to find out who is threatening Mandy's life. The author introduces several characters who might have good reason for hurting Mandy which adds to the suspects the reader has to consider as the plot progresses. This was a quick, suspenseful read. I enjoyed it and appreciate the time and planning the author put into writing it.
I read this as a stand-alone but looking forward to reading the whole series. Mandy and Luke's story kept me engaged and interested. Enjoyed it very much.
I think this is my favorite of Liz Johnson's Men of Valor series. She just keeps getting better and better. I enjoyed the story line and the suspense was engrossing. An added bonus was that the writing and continuity were tight. I don't always expect that in the Love Inspired series. If it's a fun read, that's all that counts. However, they are important to me (Possibly the result of having a mother who was an editor?) and I know that with Ms. Johnson, I will get both. She's just that good.
Additionally, I liked both main characters a lot. Despite what she is going through in her personal life, Mandy stays a totally professional, but not in an ice queen way. Luke's focus is lasered on returning to active SEAL duty. It's where he found his definition. But when Mandy's life is threatened, Luke jumps right in to protect her. Disregarding his blown out knee from an IED attack and overlooking the fact that Mandy had just refused to take on his Physical Therapy case. He just does what needs to be done ... and keeps on doing it. Until the problem is resolved. That's what men of valor do. (Not a spoiler... you knew it would be resolved, didn't you?)
The big surprise is in how it is resolved. You will have to read the book, with all its twists and turns, to find that out. If you are a fan of Ms Johnson's, you will truly like this book. If you have not read her books, you should. Really. You would like them.
I certainly appreciated the ARC, but this is my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed Navy SEAL Security, the fourth book in Liz Johnson's Men of Valor series. However, even though there are characters from the other books, this book can be read as a stand alone. The series is so good though that I highly recommend the other books as well. I enjoyed the real characters and storyline so much that I couldn't stop reading until forced to by pesky things like work or sleep.
In Navy SEAL Security, Luke was injured by an IED and is seeking Mandy's help with his physical therapy. While the physical therapy is an important part of the book because Mandy is a dedicated professional, Liz Johnson doesn't bore you with lots of details - just what's needed. Luke needs the help in order to get back to active duty on the SEAL team. It turns out that Mandy needs Luke's help as well in dealing with a stalker. Mandy is reluctant to both give and accept that help as she recognizes her immediate attraction to Luke and had a bad experience in getting involved with a patient previously. Although I figured out who the stalker was early (probably from reading so many mysteries), I still enjoyed reading what happened to the characters and how the mystery was figured out. I really like how Liz Johnson showed how God has a plan for our lives and hears us when we call for help. I can't wait to read the next Men of Valor book.
I am now finished with my book. I have to say the book was not as good as I thought it would be. The cover of the book was deceiving leading you to think that it is action packed, but it was not it was more focused on the topic of love.
Although there was more love scenes there was also some times when there would be some action. When there was action it was very well scened but was way too short. Sometimes the book would get off topic with many different things at many different times. But the characters are well thought out and make a big part of the story. There could be some corrections in this book to make the reader want to keep reading.
When I heard that there is a series to this book I hoped that it would be better than one I read. But if you are into the romance novels you might want to consider reading this book. This book is also not very long as well like other romance novels.
In conclusion I think this book is over rated and boring. But if you enjoy romance novels I suggest you try to read it. This book was overall not the worst book but still not the best.
This is my first book by Liz Johnson but it definitely will not be my last. It hit the target for me in so many of my reading 'soft spots.' I definitely love to read a great military romance without having to blush or skim through certain sections of it. I have a special love for the Navy Seals. I also love a slow-build from friendship or from unexpected circumstances. And I also enjoy a bit of tension or suspense included.
Luke is a hero whom any sane person would love and respect...and I believe this to be true of most Navy Seals. As a friend of mine once said, "God used being a Seal to turn me from a punk into a God-fearing man." In spite of uncertainty about his future, Luke is a man who still puts others first and he is exactly the hero that Mandy needs. Mandy had personal struggles to overcome but she too had grown through past experiences. There were times I was a bit frustrated with her, but ultimately she and Luke make a great team on several levels, and I was anxiously awaiting their HEA. I was not disappointed!
NAVY SEAL SECURITY is the fourth book in Ms. Johnson's Men of Valor series. There are some appearances of former characters in the series, but NAVY SEAL SECURITY stands alone. I enjoyed getting to know Luke and Mandy -- though don't judge a book by the cover. There is NO way the cover model was a SEAL -- or even in the Navy. I married a military man.
I did figure out the whodunit right away. I've read enough romantic suspenses that I'm rarely caught by surprise. That said, I didn't figure out the why. And as the characters chased down possible leads the villain trailed them, keeping Mandy and Luke guessing. I had to keep reading to find out what the villain had against Mandy. 5 five star romantic suspense.
This book was okay. I really liked the hero, Luke, but I had a hard time connecting to the heroine, Mandy. Also, this was my first time reading an LIS book, and maybe the genre just isn't for me. It seemed the heroine was in need of rescure every ten pages, to the point where it just became annoying. I couldn't understand why she made some of the choices she did, which would put her right back in danger. Also, I think the biggest down side for me was that the faith elements felt a little superficial. I didn't get the impression that either of the main characters has a really deep connection to God. The whodunit aspects were good, though. It took me a little while to figure out who the culprit was. Overall, I think it was a good book, just not the book for me.
I really enjoyed this book. Of course romantic/suspense is my favorite genre. Luke is a very determined if handicapped hero and Mandy is trying her best to remain professional with him. This is a story of regrets and Mandy's struggles to forgive herself for past mistakes. Also Luke is trying to figure out what his future holds all the while protecting Mandy from a stalker who is determined to kill her. There are lots of suspenseful moments as you wonder how in the world they are going to make it out of the situations they are in. Very enjoyable 5 star read.
I won this book in a drawing with no requirement for a positive review. All views are my own.
Navy Seal Security by Liz Johnson Men of Valor Series Wow another hit. Navy Seal Luke Dunham seeks help from Dr. Mandy Berg’s. As his physical therapist she helps him find healing while, he helps her find peace and security from a crazy stalker. Together they find a little romance. This book was action packed from the very beginning until the last page. The suspense was intense and kept me guessing who the bad guy was until the very end. The characters were well written, believable and faith filled. Navy Seal Security is a 5- star page turner. It is part of the Men of Valor Series but is a great stand-alone book.
Yet another delightful and immersive read by Liz Johnson, I found this book to maintain a great balance between exciting suspense and sweet romance, as well as provide some spiritual lessons on accepting grace and dealing with past mistakes. Also boasting a beautiful, humorous, and wonderfully complete ending, I enjoyed seeing characters from past books pop up again. That said, this is very much Luke and Mandy's story, and an enjoyable ride it is.
Oh my yes this was great read. I don't know if it is because my dad was Navy or the mixed muscle and tenderness, but I'm a goner for this series. I did figure out who it was half way through the book but the author did a good job trying to keep you guessing. I love seeing characters from the other books. This is good as a stand alone, but do yourself a favor and read the whole series.
This story was amazing! I love Liz's mysteries and this one is my favorite of all! I adored the character of Luke. This had a great mystery and lots of exciting twists and turns. I figured out the culprit fairly early but I like the mysteries where I can figure it out. All in all a very enjoyable read!
Whoa, what a great book! Fast paced from the start, non stop danger, couldn't put it down, and simply loved Mandy! I suspected who the culprit was towards the end and was right, but was still amazed by the story :) Need more good stories like this from Johnson, good clean action and a sweet romance with a SEAL in the midst of it, recommended!!
This was a great book. I highly recommend it be read. The story was a great read and fun to keep up with. It was who done it. This was a book I would like read again later in the year to remind me how great it was. Will look to read more of this authors books to see how they read.
