Twins for the Rebel Cowboy by Sasha Sunmers The Boones of Texas series, #2. Harlequin American Romance category line. Can be read as a stand-alone. Annabeth Upton has a lot on her plate with her job as school principle being open to applicants, her grandmother’s medical bills, and her six year old son that stutters, not to mention her single mom status. Ryder Boone steps in to protect her from a rowdy bar patron and their ride home turns passionate. When Annabeth ends up pregnant from that night, Ryder agrees to a marriage that she thinks is temporary, but he’s not letting her go. He’s been in love with her since they were just kids. All he has to do now is convince her that he’s worth keeping.
Heartwarming and adorable with extended family interference and small town stumbling blocks. I love a book when you know clearly what the hero feels and I cheered him on the whole way as he convinced her to trust her heart. 4.5
Annabeth is a widow with a five year old son, Cody. Her husband was killed in Afghanistan before their son was born.
Ryder Boone is/was the family rebel, the black sheep if you will. He has been best friends with Annabeth and her husband since they were young children and Annabeth has been in his heart from the beginning. Unfortunately, for Ryder, his best friend laid claim to her before he got the chance. He has loved her from afar all these years but he is your typical bad boy. Doesn’t want to settle down and the story lead me to believe he is/was a man-whore. Annabeth is equally drawn to him and has yearned for him since the death of her husband.
On Annabeth’s way home her car goes off the road in inclimate weather. She goes to the local watering hole to make a plan to get home safely and while doing so she sings a little Karaoke. When a rowdy, aggressive man hits on her Ryder comes to her rescue...kissing her and pretending she is his so this guy will leave her alone. She thinks the kisses are real and when they get to his truck so he can drive her home she is all over him and he doesn’t fight the pull but they both instantly have regrets. Him because she belonged to his dead best friend and her because she immediately senses he regrets what they did.
There were several stumbling blocks in this read for me. I like bad boys but I am fed up with their horrible reputations and bed-hopping sexcapades. Believe me, every person in their town took it upon themselves to remind Annabeth of Ryder’s bad boy ways and all the women he had been intimate with. It really got old. Worse than that was the repetitive negative thoughts and self-talk that seemed to scroll unending through Annabeth’s head and a blind man could clearly see that her thought were unfounded. I get that the author wants to make a point but when the heroine goes over this, what seems like a million times, I take offense. I equate that type of thing with a nagging mother or spouse who just keeps on until you want to scream and simply ignore them. That is how I began to feel about our heroine. I was at the point that she lost what I had originally liked about her. I became frustrated and was tempted to skim past her parts but I didn’t.
It was a decent read but one I will not read again.
The second book in this series was equally as good. I am enjoying this family and how they are all there for each other. In this book, Ryder gets a chance to be with the one he always love but was too late to capture earlier in life. Will his second chance bring him happiness? This is a great book on how great friends growing up, discover a very strong love between them.
This was super cute, even if i did want to whack Anabeth a couple of times. But Ryder has his fair share of whackable moments. I am really digging the slow burn romance right now, and this just hit all my buttons.
I just love this series from Sasha Summers! This book was just as romantic and emotional as the others I've read. I love seeing the bad boy with a chip on his shoulder fall in love!. I do wish Ryder and Annabeth would have talked honestly and gotten everything out in open without guessing what the other was thinking, but that kind of drama is to be expected in a romance novel. The kids in this book are super adorable and no one writes cute kids like Sasha Summers. I love the Boone family!
A bad boy womanizer cowboy that works on cars for a living - he's essentially who Dean Winchester would have been if he hadn't been raised as a monster hunter. Amazing. 10/10.
Annabeth is a widow raising her son while working for her temporary elementary school principal position to become permanent. After Ryder saves her from being hit on by a creep at the bar, they hook up in his truck. This results in a pregnancy. Ryder has known Annabeth since they were in high school, being best friends with her and the man that ended up being her husband - he even always had feelings for her but never felt like he was good enough for her. He's determined to do right by her, being there for her, her son and the babies that she carries. Annabeth has walls up from the cards that life has dealt her and while I understood that, I just wanted her to let him in. I also wanted him to just talk to her, he kept thinking about how he was going to show her that he was committed to her but I just wanted him to tell her that he was committed.
This novel also had everything that there is to love about small town romances with it's meddling family and gossiping towns people. I was charmed by it all.
Twins For The Rebel Cowboy by Sasha Summers. Annabeth Upton's husband died in the war six years ago. She has a ten year old son, Cody, who stutter. She has car trouble and goes into the bar near the car. The towing place called Ryder Boone, knowing Ryder was a good friend of Annabeth. Ryder has always had feeling for Annabeth, but she married his best friend. That night they have sex and she ends up pregnant with twins. There is a lot that goes on in this story. A very good read.
This was a lovely quick read about friends-turned-lovers and expanding family. I loved reading about Annabeth and Ryder, and was pleased the author didn't beat around the bush when it came to their changing relationship. It was a bit annoying after awhile that Annabeth kept insisting Ryder would end up going his own way, and despite multiple times Ryder stating he would make his views of things known to her, we never got a clear black-and-white reveal scene. After reading the book, a part of me feels like it deserves a different title than the one it's given; it's not that it isn't accurate, it just makes it seem like the twins would play a bigger picture in the story than they actually did (and the book cover image is a bit misleading too). Overall, a pleasant read and would recommend if you are looking for a quick romance to enjoy.
3½⭐.... Cute, small town romance. I am a sucker for small town romances, and sometimes you just need to read a book that you know is going to have a happy ending. This is the 2nd in the series of The Boones of Texas, and I am loving the chaotic, but loveable family with their various personalities and will definitely be reading more in the series. Each book is a stand alone, but I am reading them in order and would suggest others do the same, as the back-ground characters, family and friends are intermingled in the series and reading in order you "journey with the entire group"
Wow!!! What an emotional roller coaster. I absolutely loved this book. Ryder has loved Annabeth for a long time. One night and her world changes. They make a deal, even though, Ryder doesn't like it. Things happen, life changes. They just needed to be honest with each other.
A book that covers a lot of things happening. It was a good book to read and enjoyable reading. Taking place in Texas was new for me as was the author. She did a great job in writing and keep my interest through out the book.
Good book. Annabeth had been having a really bad day when she stopped in a bar to get out of the storm. She's being hit on by a pretty aggressive customer when Ryder arrives and steps in. Something sparks between them, and a moment of madness in the front seat of his truck has long lasting consequences.
Widowed Annabeth lost her husband to the war six years earlier, shortly before her son was born, and she has been raising him mostly on her own. She also cares for the grandmother who raised her after her own parents died in a car crash. Between taking care of Cody and Flo and her job as principal, she's really busy. She and Ryder have been friends all their lives. He was also her husband's best friend, and has been part of her life since Greg's death. She never expected the burst of attraction that resulted in an unexpected pregnancy. A scandal like that could cost her her job.
Ryder has always cared for Annabeth, but his buddy Greg got to her first. Since Greg's death he has tried to look out for them, the way Greg would have wanted, but Annabeth's independence makes it difficult to do much. When he finds out about her pregnancy he's determined to do the right thing and proposes. Being married will make it much easier to care for her. He doesn't expect her to accept his proposal as a temporary measure.
I liked Annabeth, but I did get a bit frustrated with her at times. She's a strong woman who has been through a lot and has learned to depend on herself. She's a terrific mom who worries about her son but also takes the time to have fun with him. I loved her relationship with her grandmother, and her patience when Flo's memory starts to slip. When she found out she was pregnant, she was determined that she would not trap Ryder in a marriage he didn't want. She'd heard him say that he wouldn't marry, and knew he had a job offer in Dallas, so she made it clear to him that she only expected a temporary marriage.
I loved Ryder. He has had a reputation as a rebel, thanks to his early years. He had never really fit in with the ranching side of his family and as a result had tended to rebel by getting into trouble. His mother died in a car accident on her way to get him after one of those episodes and he has carried a lot of guilt about it ever since. But in the last few years that lifestyle has lost its appeal and he has started to settle down. I loved his protectiveness toward Annabeth and his determination to take care of her. He was surprised by her plan for a temporary marriage as his intention was for a real and permanent one.
I loved seeing their relationship develop. Ryder doesn't push his intentions on her, but he's determined to show her what they could have together. It was really sweet to see the way he notices the little things that make her happy. I loved how he's always there to support her, even when she thinks she doesn't need it. I felt for him because he never seemed to be able to find the words to tell her how he feels. Annabeth started out determined to keep from depending on Ryder, sure that he would be ready to leave by the end of the school year. It didn't take long for her feelings to start to change from friendship to something more, but she was afraid to believe that he could feel the same way. In her fear she kept pushing him away. I loved seeing them both finally find the courage to confess their feelings. Ryder's surprise for Annabeth at the end was really sweet.
I enjoyed some of the secondary characters and the way they added to the story. Annabeth's grandmother, Flo, was quite a hoot. I felt bad for the health issues that she was having, but when she was "all there" she was great. I loved her part with Ryder when he went to see her. Cody was a great kid who was a lot more observant than Annabeth knew. I loved the support that both Annabeth and Ryder got from his family, and how he finally started to feel part of them again. I think my favorite was the kitten Tom. The scene with him after his encounter with the skunk was hysterical.
"If you like your American Romances with some steam, then Summers’ latest is a must-read. Out of the starting gate, the chemistry is smoking hot" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
