Even though Gabriella fucked up in book 1 really badly I just knew there was more to her than what we saw in book 1 -- breaking a couple up just because she loved Pietro -- I mean the girl practically dropped her whole life for him to see her and he still didn't then came the biggest fuck up of a mess which resulted into Gabriella starting over again; somewhere different. Book 2 follows Gabriella joining culinary school ( her mum signs her up ) then she gets the letter of acceptance and goes to France
I had my own expectations going into this book (based on the tropes - which were delivered till the very last page) -- hence the five stars otherwise this would've been a 4 (yes in some books that extra mile matters) especially when you end up forming your own attachments to the story.
The MCs
Gabriella: This girl has my whole fucking heart! From afar she seems like the rich girl who has everything and is always put together but the way her character was written with such vulnerability and complexity it makes her seem much more relatable; I can't lie I was somewhat annoyed but protective of her in book one but book two was a whole different level.
Alain: He's the epitome of "that one man that comes along and makes you realise why it didn't work out with anyone else and he is exactly what Gabriella needed. I loved him so much I could cry 😭 he's so pure, so selfless it actually fucking hurts 😭 it felt like two wounded people healing together from a life that dealt them completely different cards yet somehow they needed each other to heal ❤️🩹
The writing Style
As a reader I love lines that resonate with me or touch something in me, I like to play with words too and I'm very expressive and so while reading this book I managed to highlight 64 lines.
I loved how the author connects the food and love together for example the menu is based on the couples and how they met so item number 1 was "Loving someone from a different world: the story of Gabriella and Alain underneath there's an overview on who they are and then the ingredients would be listed underneath. I found this detail rather cute and shows the author's passion for cooking and how she sees food as a "love language".
Another aspect I loved in this book was the found family trope, more specifically Christelle; her personality is close to my heart; very friendly and full of love may sometimes even come across as naive.
