Three Months with the Spirit is popular author Justo Gonzalez study of the Acts of the Apostles. Eminently readable, the study uses the see-judge-act method to bring readers closer to the text and informs and challenges the daily life of the Christian.
These thirteen studies can be used for Sunday school, for evening Bible study, for home study meetings, for faith communities, for retreats, and for personal Bible study. In addition, Three Months with the Spirit can easily be used as a daily Bible study as each lesson is divided into seven parts.
Justo L. González, author of the highly praised three-volume History of Christian Thought and other major works, attended United Seminary in Cuba, received his MA at Yale, and was the youngest person to be awarded a PhD in historical theology at Yale. He is one of the few first generation Latino theologians to come from a Protestant background. He helped to found the Association for Hispanic Theological Education and the Hispanic Theological Initiative. Dr González is now on the faculty of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.
I have enjoyed a slow read through the book of Acts and the accompanying commentary by Justo Gonzalez. I believe it's imperative to study Scripture through the lens of different cultures and minority people, and Gonzalez helped me to not only read scripture (and appreciate it) differently but to better value the equalizing work of the Holy Spirit in uniting all believers.
Mr. Gonzalez injects political comment and opinions, particularly concerning Hispanics and a dig on climate change, that I found offensive, unsubstantiated and without acknowledging the opposing view. I felt he also suggested readers commit divisive actions within their own church. It did not present the study of the book Acts that I desired. This will be the last book of his I will read.
