An introduction to coding for complete beginners, this friendly and accessible book will teach children the basics of Scratch (a free, online programme developed by MIT which is widely used in primary schools), allowing them to get inside the code of their computer and create simple games and animations on screen.
As Editorial Director at Usborne, Jane oversees books about absolutely everything. She grew up in Moscow, Singapore, and in a forest in Sussex, building treehouses and pretending to be one of the Famous Five. Miss 3 (ASD) picked this up in the library and we decided to give it a go. Scratch is simple and easy to use with a lot of background coding for each of the 'jigsaw buttons' that are used to build the programmes. The instructions are clear to follow and we used them as guidelines only since my budding Art Director insisted on changing all the elements of each project and making them more complex! Have already recommended to other parents in conversation.
