*I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Due to the fact that I've already wasted too much time on this book I'll keep my rant short or at least try to.

I found cringe-worthy the whole psycho-in need of control-alpha-male-super-possessive dude concept and the "oh we have such a deep love and so the male must be a super possessive jerk and the woman a meek submissive girl" (I'm baffled...should I have found it romantic?---I didn't.). And guess what? Normally, she is an independent woman but with him she's so submissive and she's so happy about it. WTF. Add him getting jealous for from stupid reasons to no-reason at all and going all psycho on her. How nice, said no woman ever. They actually talk about OWNING EACH OTHER NOT BELONGING TO EACH OTHER.
Him:"I want to keep you"
Her: "I want to be kept by you"
ME: I NEED TO PUKE.

Seriously, you do not own people. Love is never about owning people, is about being better together (and deciding to be together). A relationship - and lasting one at that- it is usually built on mutual respect and trust. Love at first sight alone if it exist doesn't get you anywhere--not for long at least.
Let me stop here or I might go on and on about how APPALLING the message here was.

I'll also skip commenting on how two supposedly adults acted as hormone-crazed teens and could not make any normal noise human beings make while having sex....they had to mewl, growl and so on (who turned national geographic on?).

Still, I would have been willing to slightly overlook these things if...there had been a satisfying plot, a decent overbuilding and likeable characters.

Unfortunately, I wanted to throttle the characters, the plot was non-existent and it could be summed up in the two MC lusting over each other and having great sex. Basically the "plot" ends here. Do you want to spend your time having great sex? Fine! Good! But then don't try to sell me the "love at first sight" and "we have a deep bond" crap. Plus they never really talked or tried to know each other, both of them went on and on talking about how beautiful he or she was and what great sex they had. At some point she's talking and he doesn't listen because he's lost thinking about what great sex they had. "Where do I sign up for such a relationship?" Said no woman ever, again.

The action was close to none and was laughable, there wasn't any exhaustive explanation about what the gargoyles exactly are or what they exactly do, just some very bland and generic hints were given (e.g. random and unknown divine assignments).
The twists were predictable and I couldn't take them seriously

Last but not least, the descriptions were pitiful in the sense that there was a total lack of detail throughout the book. There were like three (sort of) decent descriptions in whole of it. The name of the country where this book was set was mentioned only after 60% and with no descriptions whatsoever going along with it---you're left Googling it if you want to picture the landscape or something. The fact that for more than half a book I had no idea where the hell we were---was atrocious.
Due to the lack of detail I basically spent most of the book imagining the two main characters acting in front of the green screen (anti-climatic). Not that there was much going on except for those two having great sex and drooling over each other.

Some other examples of the total vagueness of the setting and general world building?
-"I entered the Gothic building" (What was it? How was it? Some description please? Help me picture it!)
- "We make our way through woodland and I can’t help but notice how lush and picturesque it is " (well duh. If you don’t tell me more I have no idea what to picture! Pines? Birch trees? What? Is this my cue to insert a random picture from The Lord of the Rings?)
And so on.
It was so frustrating!

In the end, I didn’t manage to appreciate anything this book had to offer (if it had to offer something...). The premise might have been good but Vernal didn't deliver.

This book and I didn't work out---and I'd rather forget all about it.

It's not a bad book. I just desperately miss Asher and eve. I keep thinking about them and I think it's just lowering the quality of the book for me.

Original review at The Book Portal.

2.5/5.00 stars
I should just post my rough draft as it is because I am out of words. Ha-Ha-Ha!
Moving on to the actual review...
I requested this book from NetGalley a long time ago. The premise sounded promising but I got lost along the way. I had to face the same problem I usually find in books like this one. The romance took over the entire plot. :/
While reading Vernal, I learn that it is a spin off series starter. Nothing wrong with that; although, for a new comer like myself, things were not 100% clear. Little details were offered regarding the world and plot. From what is presented, the setting, the magic system and its background seemed interesting. And this is unfortunate because, just like the characters, the story had a lot of potential.
Speaking of characters... I thought there is going to be more about exploration and build up when the romance element entered the scene. As in, how the protagonists connect and try to figure out this inexplicable connection/attraction they feel about each other. Instead... Bam! Everything ruined by the sex. They spend more time talking about and being intimate than knowing each other. Then, that whole "I am super possessive and inexplicable jealous alpha male. Everything you do is wrong and I own you" and "I am a strong woman capable of anything but I cannot live without you and I am owned by you and you are the only male who can tame me" was not my style. They looked like decent characters and had good qualities here and there but.... In the end, they got overshadowed by the romance and nonexistent plot. Also, there was not a concrete reason why Serena is special and has to become the next ruler.
All in all this book was not for me. Like I use to say, this was not my cuppa tea because of too much sugar was added. It was not what I expected at all.
[I gave it such a high rating because it had enough to keep me entertained and not DNF (do not finish) it.]

This is my sole opinion. ^_^

I would like to say thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Update 6/24/16:

It's finally out and I am so excited for everyone to be able to read this new novel from Randi Cooley Wilson!! This book deserves ALL THE STARS! I was extremely fortunate to read this book a bit early, but didn't want to post my review until the book was actually released. Vernal was everything I could have imagined and more. I laughed, I swooned, and I got my heart broken in the way only Randi Cooley Wilson could break my heart. I fell in love with Tristan (he's my newest book boyfriend, and believe me...he'll be yours too), and I seriously have no idea how I am going to survive until the next book comes out!

description

Vernal follows Serena, Abby and Callan's (from the Revelation Series) daughter. While this book can most definitely be read as a standalone, you'll definitely enjoy it more if you read the Revelation series first. That series was amazing as well, so come on...what are you waiting for? Serena was an amazing lead character. Randi writes such great female leads. I can't even emphasize enough how amazing her writing is in general, but one thing that I have always loved is her characters. Over the course of this novel, you see such character development in both Serena and Tristan's characters, and it makes for an wonderful time reading. Serena has spunk...she's rebellious and free-spirited. She doesn't want to be defined by her "destiny" and most importantly she wants to be treated as the protector she has trained to be. Serena has such a fire to her, and I loved her determination and attitude throughout the entire story. The minute Tristan came onto the scene I was in love. I guess Randi just has that way about her, but very few authors have the ability to make in fall in love with a character so fast. Tristan is such a strong, fierce protector in his own right, but I loved the balance Tristan and Serena had with each other. They worked together so well, and their banter was priceless! The had me laughing so much throughout this book. But Tristan is also an extremely mysterious character. As the son of Gage, it's bound to happen that he inherits some of Gage's behaviors...with one of those traits is being sexy even doing something like breathing.

description

The forbidden relationship that developed between Tristan and Serena is seriously one of my all time favorite relationships. Everything about them was perfect, and the steamy scenes certainly will leave you fanning yourself. This is definitely NA (or at least mature YA), but this girl certainly isn't complaining!! They're sexytimes seriously made you love them as a couple even more. They obviously have a chemistry that knows no bounds. But when things come out about Tristan's past, my face was the epitome of shock. Literally, I looked like this:

And a little bit of this:

description

I couldn't believe the huge twist that came and it broke my heart into little tiny pieces. Why Randi?? WHY?? Suffice to say, this book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, and it left me very excited for the next book.

For fans of the Revelation series, we see many familiar faces, and when these familiar faces come onto the scene...well let's just say they certainly leave a lasting impression. Callan, as always, had me cracking up and I literally had to put my tablet down because I was laughing so hard! I'm so glad that Randi incorporated them into the story, but have no fear because Vernal is Tristan and Serena's story through and through. There is plenty of action and excitement, adventures into new realms, and gorgeous setting that will make you want to hop onto a plane to Ireland as soon as possible.

If you couldn't tell, I highly recommend checking this book out as soon as you can! With gorgeous writing and characters that you will fall in love with immediately, this book has it all! I seriously don't know how I'm going to be able to wait for the next book in the series Aequus, but it certainly is going to be a LONG wait.

Happy reading :)

"You could have been my future, instead of my past."

One book ago, I said I didn't like how amateurish Revelation was. Well, I really love Randi Cooley Wilson's writing here! It's almost like authors improve. Lol.

"Tonight, I'm going to let you go. Not because I want to, but because I have to. I will take care of you. Even if it's from afar. I'll dream of you every damn night. I'll remember you, always."

"I will never regret you, raindrop."

I love it so much even if it's angsty. I can't wait to read the next book! ♥♥♥

4.5 supernatural stars!

Gargoyle Princess Serena St. Michael is the last of her regal bloodline and destined to live within the confines of royalty. Though she has her father wrapped around her finger and wants for nothing, her future is not her own. Duty requires that she study and train with the other gargoyle protectors, and that she must eventually marry to create a new alliance to maintain peace between various supernatural races. This plan does not sit well with the rebellious and free spirited 20-year-old princess.

In the third and final year of her training at the Royal Protector Academy, her family has secretly assigned her a new and additional personal protector/bodyguard, in anticipation of an assassination attempt from a source of evil long-ago wronged by the St. Michael’s. However, the family never expected that Serena and her new guard would fall for each other. Tristan Gallagher has a shady past and secrets of his own. He’s also gorgeous and off-limits. How could Serena possibly not be attracted?

Tristan has various connections in the supernatural world, and responsibilities of his own to uphold, but he cannot deny the strong pull he feels towards Serena. As much as he tries to convince himself that ensuring her safety is simply his current assignment, he can’t help but feel deeply for her. Tristan knows, better than anyone, that he is bad news for Serena and would only end up hurting her, that he cannot claim her, mate with her, or keep her once the assignment ends. But heck if he doesn’t want to, with every fiber of his being.

The Royal Protector Academy feels like a college atmosphere, with the gargoyle students adding witty banter to the already sarcasm-laced dialog. Despite the seriousness of their purpose, and the impending threat of attack, the tone among classmates is light and fun.

Author Randi Cooley Wilson has successfully managed to combine many different types of supernatural beings into one coherent NA love story. Perfect for fans of Laura Thalassa’s ‘The Unearthly’ series and anyone who enjoys a good NA paranormal romance.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Very disappointed, not what I expected

Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of this author's breakout series, Revelation series, loved her imagination, her development of characters, the story she was able weave and kept me entertained and eager to read into the wee hours of the night.
Therefore, I of course couldn't wait to get my hands on this book, she could not fail.....alas, this book failed terribly for me. The story, there is no story, the characters are so flat and boring, neither one of the lead characters could breath around each other from the " unexplainable" desire....I thought they would surely pass out at any moment and we would all be put out of our misery. So bottom line, read her Revelation series and stay away from this one.

I guess it might be considered bold for an author that is not writing porn to open with a girl dancing and lounging naked in the middle of a field, for the hell of it, next to her school under the public’s eyes, but then to make said girl wonder why when a guy comes along and stops to gawk at her and make comments about your nakedness is a little dense…. Or to be surprised that anyone is paying attention to her; I mean dancing naked out in a public spot is typically about getting attention so it’s pretty dumb to be surprised by it…. That was the first mark against this book and it didn’t really improve for me from there.

I think I actually enjoyed this more than the original series which I wasn’t expecting. Yes, it’s dominated by the romance element but that didn’t detract for me. I loved Serena as a lead, so strong & unafraid of being vulnerable & open with her feelings. It was quite refreshing.

I loved this new series from Wilson! It definitely has more of an adult theme. The World is familiar readers of the Revelation Series as it starts up about 20 years after that series ended. Though some of my favorite characters from that series have a cameo in Vernal.

Vernal has it's own prophecy lurking in the background and it's own war brewing as well. Add to that Gage Gallagher's son and Callan and Abby St. Michael's daughter. Makes for some very interesting circumstances and lots of tension.

Loved all the new characters we are introduced to in Vernal. Serena is different from most female characters in their early-20s. She is not a game player and she shoots straight. Tristan is the one that tends to play mind games, but they are warranted????

Lots of intrigue, romance, sexual chemistry, as well as a few laughs and tears. I really loved it and can't wait for the next book.

Most of the things i didn't like it have been mentioned before in other reviews (like this one for example) BUT i had to mention the wrong use of greek language. I understand the author might not know greek but i do find quite annoying when it goes all "and now he speaks awesome greek" and the phrases barely make sense. Better leave it in English and say it was spoken in greek. Also...not ancient greek either. Why am i so annoyed by this? Ugh....Either way...pass :/

Potential...but hard to read!

There's so much potential here but man is this book all over the place! It really lacked good, solid setting up of the foundations of the supernatural creatures and their realms and instead threw in tid bits of their physical attributes and history here, there and everywhere! I will keep going with the series to see if the writing improves. I also kinda want to know if shit hits the fan for Serena and Tristan.

I wanted so badly to give it more!
I loved the Revelation book series so much and all the different dynamics in the characters personalities... the relationship building and world building was a lot stronger..
That being said I think to even remotely enjoy this book you need to read the other series first.
I felt there was a huge lack in building up to their relationship and there was a lack in giving the characters personalities and purpose.
The plot fell flat there wasn't action or adventure and just when I thought there was going to be some there wasn't. Serena also acts like a little brat and she does something that could have gotten Tristan killed yet he laughs about it and acts like it's no big deal.
Something I loved about the Revelation series is the funny banter between the clan ... there was non of that it was just back and forth between the two main characters.
I feel like this book falls into a twilight category... yes I'll keep reading and finish the series because I feel like it has potential but I am very disappointed in it so far :/

on a side note I really didn't like the people who did the audio book for this book... the girl that did it for the Revelation series did so much better, this one falls flat and having an older male read for Tristan who is suppose to be in his 20s didn't do it for me... I usually get both the hard copy and audio for my Kindle app and I've decided not to do that for the next one...

Lions, and Dragons and Wood Nymphs… OH MY!
Vernal is a plethora of colorful creatures and characters
Remember Three Men and a Little Lady? It was the sequel to this romantic comedy about three dudes who find a baby in the hallway of their apartment building and raise it til the mom shows up… and then they become a big ole’ happy family. In Little Lady, the guys are forced to deal with change -in how they interact with the little girl and their lives in general. Change comes to us all – even three quirky dudes and a baby girl.

The loveably-askew St. Michaels boys of the Revelation series (we reviewed the last one) are back with their all-grown, reluctant princess, Serena, the daughter of Callan and Abby. She is quirky, earthy and all-things non-royal, and I loved her right away.

As does the son of Gage Gallagher – the hot and steamy Tristan.

But Tristan knows from day 1 that this pairing isn’t really something they can want – something they SHOULD want. He remains the level-headed one trying to prevent it, even as forces beyond their control threaten everything they are… as well as Serena’s very life.

In this first book in the spinoff Royal Protectors Academy series, by Randi Cooley Wilson, we know this isn’t just a “business as usual” continuation of the same story. There are characters that carry through, and partial storylines, but in reality, we have new focuses and foes, lovers and losers.

Ms. Wilson carves out a new solar system in a universe we already love, and we can’t help but fall in love all over again.
The passion between Serena and Tristan is fiery and sexy, with a healthy dose of rain-laden steam. There is sexual
content (so don’t say I didn’t warn you! lol) but it seems appropriate and timely for the story, with natural buildup and logical progression. They bring the sizzle from the very first chapter, until the very end.

So should you read it?

Oh, hell yes.
It’s going to KILL me to wait for the next book, and this book does leave you breathy and wanting more at the end. However, it’s so good you can overlook it (or start a re-read from the beginning each time you’re waiting for a new one… that could work

Unfornately, I did not enjoy this book. Randi Cooley Wilson is one of my favorite authors, but this book is much sub par.

There is absolutely no connection between Serena and Tristan. I couldn't get over how shallow the characters are. Their relationship is solely based on sex and lust. There are so many sex scenes and the first one starts at 20%!. These characters barely know each other and claim that they love each other after knowing each other for just a few weeks.

The insta-love really killed the novel. There is no chemistry nor connection. The world building in this novel is very flat. I wanted to see what happened to after the characters of the Revelation series and a whole new perspective of this amazing world. But, what I got was a tunnel vision of two characters who has tons of sex.

I do not recommend this book. I highly recommend you pass it.

Absolutely brilliant from beginning to end!! Serena and Tristan's story is one that will stay with you! Their love grows to a bond that can't be broken. When two worlds collide fate steps in and doesn't back down. Family and friends give warning but it falls on deaf ears and for good reason. Secrets are hidden but the truth unfolds. The characters in this book will suck you in and have you laughing so hard but also drowning in tears. I loved every page, chapter, character and this was not the end of Serena and Tristan's story but just the beginning.

I received this eARC from Red Coat Publishing and the author. This is my honest review.

Serena, princess of the London gargoyle clan, is tired of being special. She wishes she was just a regular gargoyle protector training to prepare for her future. Instead, she is being protected and watched constantly because she has a destiny to fulfill. But that doesn't stop her from acting out and causing trouble for the people who are watching her. She's made it her life's mission to make their job as hard as possible.

When Tristan first sees Serena, he was struck senseless. It didn't help that she didn't have a stitch of clothing on and was dancing in the rain. But he loves her rebelliousness and always needs to put her in her place.

The connection between the two of them ignites instantly, and neither Serena nor Tristan know how to stop themselves from caving in. Serena thinks that her being with Tristan will help her case to be free from responsibilities, and Tristan has a dark past, and also a deep secret that may ruin them both.

Because both are royalty, and royalty does not get a choice on their future. They are destined for two opposite futures, and yet they cannot help but go to each other because of their instant, red-hot passion for one another.

When the secrets come tumbling out, both get hurt in the process and they go back to their original lives. But, as fate would have it, they keep bumping into one another. Pretty soon, their lives and their decisions will forever effect their future.

Wow. Am I ever so glad that I was able to read this book through the Red Coat Publishing group! I seriously loved it so much and flew through this first novel. The storyline was great and the chemistry between Tristan and Serena was off the charts! There were so many secrets, so it was so gut wrenching when some of them were revealed!

I read some reviews where readers were mad that Serena went from a headstrong, break the rules girl to a submissive, meek girl when she was with Tristan. I can see that, but that, to me, shows that she is really invested into Tristan and knows that he will forever be there for her when she needs him, so she can put down her walls just a little bit.

The tension between these two blew my mind. I loved seeing them banter and I loved when their banter went into sexual tension that they weren't able to control. It showed that sometimes you can't help how you act when you find the one that is meant for you.

I cannot wait to read the next book and see how things progress with these characters. Now that all (maybe? I think?) of the secrets are out, it will be interesting to see how it will unravel and how it will end with them.

I am also really enjoying the world that Randi Cooley Wilson has created. It took a little bit for me to get into the setting of the story, and I realize that is because this is a different series in the same world with different characters! I am going to have to finish this series and possibly get my hands on the Revelation series to get the full package of this world!

I'm so glad I read this and will definitely be raving about it to my reading friends! :D

(Also, gargoyles? Love it! So different, and it reminded me of Jennifer L. Armentrout's series, White Hot Kiss :D)

********** Contain Some Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book, and thought it was a good follow up to Randi Cooley Wilson’s Revelation Series. Serena St. Michael, is the only heir to the Gargoyle throne, she knows that this is her fate but she wants something different for her, especially after hearing the stories about her uncle Asher and aunt Eve’s epic love story. Serena has always rebelled against her royal obligations. She’s in her final year at the Royal Protector Academy. Serena has no idea the lengths that her family has gone to protect her, they created a whole Academy so Serena would be surrounded by Protectors when the time came. Serena has no idea, that the guy she met while she was dancing naked in the rain is actually her bonded protector, assigned by her family to protect Serena, but not tell her who he actually is. Tristan was given the punishment of Stone Petrification after he k*lled a Royal Protector. Who was posing as a member of the Woodland Realm, Lion Guard. He was giving an alternate sentence to become Serena’s bonded protector and an associate professor at the Academy while Serena is finishing her final year, and then he’ll be free.

It was totally obvious that Serena and Tristan were eventually going to end up in bed together, as their chemistry/attraction was undeniable. Tristan being half satyr didn’t make matters any easier for them both. I enjoyed meeting Serena’s best friend Magali, as well as meeting Zander, Tristan’s brother as they both just added an extra layer to the story. I loved Zander and Serena’s banter, especially after Serena found out about Tristan’s obligation to his Realm. No matter how many times Serena and Tristan are reminded that there can’t be anything more than s*x between them, as they both have responsibilities related to their bloodlines. It doesn’t work as their chemistry is off the charts. It was really hard to tell the timeline of this book, so Serena and Tristan’s love story seemed very rushed to having such strong feelings, but they did bond when Serena wasn’t even born yet, and Tristan being injected with Serena’s blood as her bonded protector probably heightened their feelings greatly. Considering how this book ended, I’m looking forward to seeing what Serena does as Tristan has been pardoned, and now has to go back to his the Woodland Realm, and fulfil his duties as prince to stop war, no matter if his heart isn’t in it. He’ll even forsake his heart for his Realm. I’d definitely recommend this, book, series, universe and author to everyone.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book, given by Netgalley.
http://thesecretworldofbooklovers.blo...

Well I read this book without realising that it came after the revelation series, and it was a bit of a spoiler I must admit since I haven't finished the series yet. But I tried to keep the stories separated in my mind and kind of work ( I'm hoping).

That being said it was really fun to read about this new generation of gargoyles, their friends and enemies. They reminded me so much about their predecessors that I couldn't hold it together and wanted them to get over themselves and love each other, like yesterday.
But that's not how stories work so we bear with them fighting each other at every turn and at the same time falling so hard that there might not be a way back for either.

The main characters were amazing! Serena was strong, independent and smart; a bit too immature at first for my taste but she is young so we will forgive her for that.

Tristan was so ... Gage, yeah I think that's the best way to describe him, so similar but at the same time not that tainted by darkness. He might be going through a rough moment now but he doesn't know true darkness like his progenitor. He recognised the feeling from the start, he couldn't accept it but he knew; and that showed us he had a big and beautiful beating heart within.

And the cliffhanger we knew was coming, I can't wait to read the next part of this amazing an thrilling story!

For the love of all that is worthy, I could not take it. RCW's Revelation series was a lot of fun. Yes above all it was about an all encompassing love story, but it also had a great plot with complex side characters. All in all,I loved it.

Vernal is not that. I understand RCW wanted this to be an NA book, but heads up, NA doesn't just mean sex and alpha maleness and ownership. For Fucks sake, Vernal was less plot and more bite. Literally. It's about two supposed adults who are pretty
100% just insta-love lust-crazed maniacs. There is a side plot about dark faeries and such, but really it's just about Tristan and Serena's lust driven thoughts and stupid actions. If I wanted to read a book with alpha males, submission, and no plot, I'd have picked up 50 Shades of Grey. I was here for the plot and the world RCW built in the Revelation.

Gargoyles, I mean come on!!! That is one of be most unique mythical creatues out there, and it read like the author gave 0 fucks about the plot. She just wanted Tristan and Serena to have as many forbidden fucks as possible, and then be like, "huh" - scratches head - "what happened there?"

I'm sorry I had to give this a harsh review. This is just not at all what the blurb promised. I do not want to be inside Serena and Tristan's sex craved minds for the entire book. I wanted adventure and mystery and a built up love story. Vernal delivered on no accounts.

>Book Review – Vernal
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Royal Protector series and ends in a cliffhanger. Serena is a Gargoyle heir attending a bodyguard-type school. Tristan is a woodland heir that is secretly assigned to bodyguard Serena. I felt that this aspect of the story did not make sense. Serena was supposedly a strong bodyguard herself. If her claim to the throne was so important, why was she allowed to attend the school? If she really was able to protect herself, why was she assigned 2 bodyguards?
>Tristan falls for Serena and accidentally bonds with her. I loved how he goes all alpha-caveman whenever anyone touches her. I did not like how Tristan and Serena seemed to fall in insta-love, but did not blame that on any magic, even though a lot of magic was used to tie them together. Serena is portrayed as a shy girl, but she really comes on to Tristan. Which is her real personality? There are a lot of secondary characters in the story that help to keep the story going. I especially loved Serena’s deaf friend and Triston’s brother.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. Serena’s character was not written in a way that clearly defined her. A lot of events from a previous series were mentioned. I never read the previous series, so I was a bit confused.

Absolutely breathtaking story. From the very first sentence to the very last word, you will be drawn in. Randi Cooley Wilson weaves a tapestry of art with her words, painting a breathtaking love story between Tristan and Serena. They will overcome any and all obstacles for their heart's desire, yet the biggest obstacle they can't seem to see past are themselves. A little like Romeo and Juliet, they are the star-crossed lovers of their generation. As niece to Asher and Eve St. Michael, Serena is the Heir to the St. Michael Gargoyle throne since Asher and Eve have no children of their own (and never will), and Tristan is the son of the bad boy of days gone by, Gage Gallagher. However, Tristan has been assigned as Serena's current and personal guard. He is also a resident Professor and happens to be staying in HER dorm apartment. Can they stay away from each other? Can he keep his promises to his family? Can Serena? As Heir to the throne, and Tristan has his own obligations to HIS family (his mother, but I won't spoil that. You will have to read the book.), they have so many things to overcome and figure out. And war is coming to Earth once again. Heaven and Hell are getting ready to wage war, and this time, it's a battle for Serena's life.

Unbelievably breathtaking. There are not enough stars to give for this new series. My heart was in my throat and the tears flowed throughout the whole novel.

Vernal is the next generation of gargoyle protectors that we first met in Revelation series. While it is not necessary to have read Revelation Series first, you would be missing out on an epic read. This story follows Serena and Tristan. They have an amazing chemistry together and are awesome characters as individuals.

To be honest I didn't have high hopes for this series. Reason being that I was so attached to the Revelation Series and its characters that I didn't think this new generation could measure up. I could not have been more wrong. Author Randi Cooley Wilson's talent as a writer continues to astound me. you get absorbed into her story with her captivating descriptions. She leaves you hanging on every word she writes. While reading I found my self laughing out loud, forgetting to breath, and crying in heartbreak for Tristan and Serena.
