I liked this. It reminded me of a scene in the book The Goonies where the kids spooked each other with ghost stories in the dark.

It had the nice “story within a story” device and the characters even mocked the very same technique of drawing suspense - which the author used anyway. Totally brilliant.

The ending wasn’t what I expected, but it suited the tale overall - considering the characters. I won’t say more because spoilers suck.
