A contemporary romance, with heavy themes throughout. Ella and Jacob's story is one that is inevitable but that doesn't mean that it will come easily.Ella-
I always believed in happily ever afters, straight from the pages of my favourite romance novels. I’ve spent years dreaming about the kind of love that takes your breath away and sweeps you off your feet.
This dream however, has only ever involved one man– my brother’s best friend. The only person who ever made the rest of the world melt away, only now, he's not the same person I once knew

Jacob-
I’ve spent most of my life hiding; concealing my past and surviving my present. But behind the easy smiles and life-and-soul of the party exterior, lies a life that I’ve worked hard to keep from those around me.
One thing I’m tired of hiding though, after years of being away, are my feelings for the girl with eyes the colour of whiskey.
Problem is, she’s off limits and always has been. But when has that ever stopped me before?

A beautiful story of young love, addiction, and finding the strength to stand by the people you love.

From start to finish this book had my heart aching. The way in which N.S.Williamson writes her characters is addictive and immersive.

Ella was enjoyable to read. There was an air of nostalgia surrounding her character, along with the raw emotion of young love, heartbreak and finding self worth.

Jacob's character was written with extreme care and attention to detail. His story wasn't sugar coated, we got to see his struggles and turmoil. We got to experience the effect that addiction has not only on the addict themselves, but the people who love them too.

Whilst there are heavy themes throughout, it's balanced well with the lighter, more comical moments.

A stunning debut and beautiful story of endurance and love - congratulations to the author 👏🏻

This book completely stole a piece of my heart. ❤️

From the very beginning, One Day at a Time transported me straight back to being a teenager and that all-consuming feeling of having a crush on someone. The nostalgia, the little details and the way those early feelings were captured had me smiling because it felt SO familiar.

And then there’s Jacob…

What a man. 😍

Caring, strong, protective, swoon-worthy and just the right amount of damn. 😂 He had me falling for him right alongside Ella, and I absolutely loved watching their relationship develop.

This is a slow burn, but when those spicy moments hit… HOT AS F*CK. 🔥 They were perfectly placed and definitely worth the wait.

But this book isn't just romance and spice. There is so much heart woven through these pages. It made me laugh, swoon, blush and, at times, completely break my heart. The emotional depth of the story really got to me, and I found myself becoming incredibly invested in both Jacob and Ella.

There are so many little moments and lines that had me grinning, and the chemistry between these two is everything.

I was lucky enough to beta read this book, and it was my first ever beta read, which makes it even more special to me. Thank you to N.S. Williamson for trusting me with this story and allowing me to experience Jacob and Ella before they were ready to be shared with the world. ❤️

I don't want to say too much because this is a story you need to experience for yourself, but if you enjoy slow burn romance, second chances, emotional depth, strong chemistry and an MMC who will have you absolutely swooning, put this one on your TBR.

Jacob and Ella will definitely be staying with me for a long time.

A beautiful, emotional story that made me feel ALL the things. ❤️

And Jacob…

Yeah.

He's staying on my book boyfriend list. 😂❤️‍🔥

Firstly, congratulations on your debut novel.

Genuinely, this book will stay with me for awhile. I wouldn't change a single element of how this story progressed from start to finish.

For yourself please do check your own triggers.

Jacob & Ella had me rooting for them from the offset. It gave giggles, it had spice, it had deep feels which broke me but then it built back up again.

I really do not want to give any spoilers away. This one really will pull you out of any reading slump you may be in.

I felt like I was right their with these characters. The author did them complete justice.

This book! Wow. I completely forgot I was beta reading and was meant to be taking notes because I got so immersed in the story. I'm still emotionally recovering!

From the very beginning, I was rooting for Jacob and Ella. I just needed these two to get their happy ever after. Ella's internal monologue was so relatable. Her awkwardness had me giggling and thinking, I would be exactly the same! But Jacob's struggles, his
thoughts and his feelings about himself, hit me in a completely different way.

Being aware of the damage addiction can do, the desire to do right but feeling yourself being pulled back into the darkness, all of it felt so real. I just wanted to cuddle him. I knew this was going to be a painful journey for him, and I could only hope he would get there.

For 70% of this book, I was smiling and giggling. But that last 30%? Oh my! I completely broke apart, only to start rebuilding, to then be broken all over again!

I had no criticism, constructive or otherwise, for this book I loved it. From the giggles to the spicy scenes, the emotional damage and the recovery, there isn't one thing I would’ve change.

I can't believe this is a debut. It's absolutely stunning, and I genuinely think it will stay with its readers long after they finish.

I'm so grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this book. All I need now is the physical copy so I can tear up every time I see it sitting on my shelf. I'll miss Jacob and Ella, but I already know this is going to be a book I reread again and again.

I absolutely adored this book! Ella and Jacob completely stole my heart, and I loved getting those little glimpses of them when they were younger before seeing them reconnect as adults. Their connection felt so natural, and their relationship genuinely had me grinning like an idiot at times!

Jacob’s struggles with addiction were written in such a raw and honest way that it genuinely broke my heart at times. The author didn’t hold back, and I found myself rooting for him so much throughout.

I loved how beautifully the book balanced those heartbreaking moments with such a sweet romance and little moments of humour. One minute I was emotional, and the next I was smiling like a madwoman!

The ending wrapped everything up so beautifully, and I finished with emotions all over the place.

And the fact that this is a DEBUT novel?! I’m genuinely in awe of the writing, the emotional depth and the characters she’s created.

An absolutely beautiful, emotional read that completely stole my heart. An easy 5 stars and I can’t wait for more! ❤️

Wow! Just wow, this book was incredible.. it touched my heart in so many different ways, it made me cry.. it made me smile, it made me laugh.. this is genuinely a masterpiece, a lot of people suffer with an addiction and to even get a slight snippet of a POV from the person with the addiction is eye opening, you never truly know what other people are going through, which is why I believe and I will continue to believe, kindness is everything.. be kind to others as you don’t know their story, thank you truly for writing such a magnificent book.

What a beautiful profound story that held everything…from playfulness to heart wrenching moments, spiciness and enrapture and underneath it all a beautiful story of a man who fought his demons and realised he was more then the choices that he made, as well as the choices his parents made.

Sweet Ella, who loves her books, loves her job and loves her family, has also loved her brother’s best friend, Jacob, from the moment she met him. And Jacob….Jacob Jacob Jacob…that beautifully broken soul that struggled believing he was worth something. All he needed was someone to show him they were gonna be there for him despite it all - so he could see he was worth doing better for himself. He fought it, man did he fight it. But the pull was there - the invisible string that connected Jacob and Ella was stronger than the darkness he battled. ‘Because now I’ve had a taste of what Ella and I could be, the addict in me is roaring his head off and beating his chest.’

The reality of emotions, and the rollercoaster you are taken on by N.S. Williamson is WILD! My face never stayed the same for long….from giggling to pure laugh out loud moments, anger and tears and the utter heartache for Jacob as the little boy who deserved so much more.

Grab your tissues and be ready for an all nighter because I could not put this down!

What a raw, beautiful debut One Day at a Time by N.S. Williamson is.

Jacob completely stole my heart. He is the perfect representation of anyone battling internal demons, questioning their self-worth and falling into the trap of self-sabotage. It was truly heartbreaking to watch him finally try to pull his life together, only for the darkness to take over, but that is the painful reality of hiding from your demons instead of facing them.

His journey with addiction powerfully illustrates how deeply it impacts not only the individual but everyone closest to them.

Ella was incredibly sweet, caring, and always led with her heart. I loved how fiercely she stood by Jacob, and I was rooting for them from the very beginning. Their romance felt so authentic and real and their connection was undeniable.

One day at a time beautifully reinforces a message I say all the time, often, the person with the biggest smile is the one struggling the most on the inside.

N.S. Williamson struck the perfect balance between tackling heavy, raw themes and developing a completely organic relationship.

Thank you to N.S Williamson for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
