Holy Red Riding Hood, Wolf Man!

That was one HAWT read! I don't even know what else to say about it! I was with the author daily on this book (and Slave World: The Ties That Bind) listening to the changes that took place as the book took shape. Reading as He wrote it, bouncing ideas back and forth, watching it morph into something incredible. But to sit and read it in its completed format, start to finish after all the changes were complete... there are no words!

Johnny Stone has a fantastic imagination and He put it to good use with this book.

It's a story of Paula Redding, a Homicide Detective with a secret, a *big* secret. She's a werewolf and there's an Alpha Male in her territory and he's baiting her and she's more than ready to take that bait.

Duncan Patrick is that Alpha Male, and he's ready to add another bitch to his long line of females that he services in his territory. He baits her, leaving his scent for her to follow. And what a scent he has.

Add Martin "Marty" Jenks to the mix, Paula's human lover, the man she wants to marry and have a family with, and things start to get dicey for Paula.

Will she stay with her kind? Become the were-female bitch that Duncan commands that she be, or will her humanity, what's left of it, keep her from becoming the very thing she has sworn to protect the people of her territory from?

This is a must read, a quick and very, VERY hot read. Character development is dead on, and I was connected to them one by one. Losing a bit of my own humanity when the story turned very dark and sexual.

This book isn't for the faint of heart, it's dark, sexual, and violent in some parts. It's a wild ride and if you're looking for a quick PNRe to read during lunch, this is the perfect one for that... but beware, the sexuality and hotness factor of this book will have you wishing for a place to take a cold shower before heading back to work.

Solid 5 stars!

*I have the continuous privilege to interact with the author here on Goodreads and in my personal life. To the best of my knowledge this is an objective, fair and honest review.*

*Book source ~ Gifted from a friend.

Paula Redding is a Homicide Detective, but that’s not all she is. She’s a Werewolf, trying to hang on to her humanity while solving murders. Sometimes those murders are caused by the rare Werewolf infringing on her territory. Keeping her two lives separate hasn’t been too difficult until now. A string of murders indicates a serial killer, but the type of killing tells Paula that the killer is a Werewolf. However, not a female testing Paula’s authority, but a very rare Alpha male. Paula has never seen a male, but now that she has his scent there’s no going back to human for her. Is her carefully ordered world about to implode?

This is one compelling story! How do you reconcile two halves of your whole when one half is so primitive as to completely overwhelm everything that makes you human? Paula is between a rock and a hard place. She has a need to protect everything in her territory, but a rare Alpha is in town and her submerged Werewolf will not be denied the pleasure of mating, something she has never done in that form. It doesn’t matter that she has a job she takes very seriously or a man she loves very much. All that matters is the Werewolf and the most basic of urges.

This story is dark and is very gory in spots. I would have liked a bit more development of Jenks’ character and seen more of Paula’s relationship with him. I think that would have made what happened more horrific. Not that it wasn’t already, but the connection would have made the ending that much more painful to watch. Though this story technically has an ending, I’d be curious to see what happens later down the road. All-in-all a terrific emotion-filled read.

Carnal sex in beast form is a hawt taboo read. A Wolf's Dowry involves two werewolves and some dirty bloody sex. Paula Redding is a woman sans ties. Without a family or much history, she's made her own way in the world. She's also found a man she's going to marry. Jenks, a fellow cop, is the lucky man. When a new homicide which looks to be a serial killer haunts her, her carefully compartmentalized world starts to unravel. Her two sides collide when the suspected killer threatens her future white picket fence plans.

This story moves fast and the sex part is pretty graphic and hawt. The focus is on Paula's mating heat which turns her into a ravenous nymphomaniac. The taboos depicted in this story are right up my alley and I enjoyed them. It's aggressive, rough and bloody. The clear imagery combined with scent descriptions invokes a strong picture and makes this story come to life in vivid detail.

Still, this story is too short. There is little world building. It would be nice to have more background on Paula and the werewolf mythology used. Some of the information is conflicting. For example, it's mentioned she didn't know she was a werewolf until she turned. Yet she seems to have learned a little about the werewolf society in reference to other female werewolves and a possible alpha male werewolf. When a new werewolf enters the picture, it's implied she's more than just an average werewolf. She knows nothing about this but at the end of the story she suddenly declares something which makes no sense.

"The Anaski have always prided themselves on their ferocity in battle, and I’m no different." (p.26)

How did she learn of the reputation of the Anaski? It's never mentioned she has any contacts in the werewolf society. A reader needs to deduce the new werewolf in her territory somehow explained how things are for her. Since the only scene involving information distribution from said werewolf was scorning her ignorance, this doesn't seem a plausible scenario. This lack of continuity causes the story to be less smooth than it could have been. There are a couple of threads to the story which were left hanging which could mean a follow up story. Overall, this story is a quick read and recommended for paranormal lovers who enjoy a more ruthless style of mating.

***5 Awesome Paranormal Stars***

I think my favorite thing about Mr. Stone is that he doesn't shy away from the uncomfortable. All too often I read paranormal that is far too human in my opinion. I want to see the characters embrace their animalistic natures, and Mr. Stone's do just that!

Paula Jennings is a homicide detective, investigating a string a murders that she believes are being committed by one of her own kind, a werewolf. She has ran into other females in her territory before, ones testing her authority in the area, but never a male, let alone an Alpha.

As Paula delves further into the case, getting closer to the one committing these murders, she feels her animal instincts taking over, particularly her mating instincts. Paula tries to remain in control, in touch with her human side, but when she comes face to face with the Alpha Duncan, all bets are off.

There is something about this story that is just so raw and in your face, without any apologies for it. It is sweltering hot, and will leave you feeling deliciously dirty. This will definitely go down as an all time favorite of mine.

The book surprised me - more than a little. I loved the style, the richness of the storytelling, of the world being built. I was fascinated by the main character and the depth she was given. There are times when her internal conflict gets lost and forgotten - but overall it was an intriguing read.

I finished this novella a while ago, but it's taken a little time to figure out what to say. Although it has 'erotic' elements, I didn't find it particularly erotic. I did find it riveting, scary and unpredictable. It's difficult to say too much beyond the blurb without spoilers - but the twist at the end was as surprising as it was welcome. I so didn't see that coming. It took what had been shaping up as a 3-star and bounced it up a full star.

Well written story, just a little too gruesome for my tastes.
