Investigating the current groundswell of experiments and creative work that utilises design as a method to explore and manipulate actual biological material, Neoplasmatic Design presents the impact of emerging and progressive biological advances upon architectural and design practice. The rapid development of innovative design approaches in the realms of biology, microbiology, biotechnology, medicine and surgery have immense significance for architecture, being as important for their cultural and aesthetic impact as for their technical implications.
This edition is a good way to dip your toes into this new coining of a specific area of Bio-integration within Biodesign (which in itself is unavoidably and wonderfully a very interdisciplinary arena of creation, esploration and problem solving which in my humble opinion holds many of the strings of the regenerative future we are trying to weave against the clock. The lense is focused on architecture mostly, as would be expected but I yearned for more under the surface than what was left visible. I still recommend it, especially if you are unfamiliar with the term. The definition of Neoplasmatic Design alone in the first pages was worth it to me.
