It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman...
Darla Williams is in no mood to be bothered. At the pleading of her best friend Bailey, Darla has found herself no longer behind her desk at Pemberley Bourbon, but face-to-face with Eli Barnett at a dive bar in Bowling Green, Kentucky. And so begins a southern-fried, bourbon-soaked Pride and Prejudice adaptation... served with a twist!
3.5 stars, good re-working of one of the best books ever written, this time The roles are reversed, it works well, the back story is very well written and put together. Loved the interfering aunt, and Eli's mum, total snobs the pair of them!, gotta have someone to hate right? Really liked Eli, my type of guy, down to earth, genuine, would pick him over a titled guy any day of the week!,
I won a copy of this book with Goodreads. I was so happy to receive it. And than a lot happend in the family so I did not have the chance to read it. Actually these last two days it was possible. And I liked it a lot. The characters are well written. You realy can love a character or hate it. Like in the original book. Loved Eli. What a guy. Do not tell my husband but I am a little in love with him. And you realy can follow the prosess in het head of Darla. The letters used in the book are easy to read. I took the book also outside to read it. That is a joy. I hope I do not make to many mistakes in the use of the English language because it is not my native tongue. I am Dutch. Crystal thanks for the book. I enjoyed it a lot. Not only the book, who was signed by your hand, but also the gifts I received with it. Hope I get an other opportunity to read a book by your hand ore someone else sends me a copy of his or her book.
Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favorite books. I eagerly began reading this book only to be very disappointed. This is P & P set in modern day with the twist of Darcy being Darla. Hugh chunks of P & P are copied almost verbatim. I did enjoy the clever use of names and places (ie the bar is called Longbarn). I didn't find reading the story from Darla's (Darcy's) point of view satisfying nor did I find Darcy's manner translated well into a female. When Darla declares her feelings to Eli it really loses the indignation of the moment 1. because it is a female declaring to a male and 2. it is from the arrogant viewpoint. Eli (Elizabeth) just seemed like such a weak character I couldn't understand why a successful, smart woman would be interested in him. There is more to a relationship than beautiful brown eyes. This book missed on so many levels.
