This is my first crime thriller novel, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a fast pace, quick read, filled with suspense and some naughty moments. I can't read a book without the naughty bits. I like the heroine, Gweyn, even though I wanted to yell at her and you'll know why when you read it as she goes on the hunt for the mysterious, gruesome, evasion serial killer Doc. I'm definitely waiting the second release because I have questions and assumptions and I want to know if I am right! For lovers of this genre, a worthy read. I recommend it.

This book started off good. However, I never connected with Gwen on any level. She has an attitude towards authority that bothers me, it feels to me that she thinks she can do whatever she wants because of who her father is. Also, she's a cop...doesn't she know the dangers of taking a stranger home especially when she's drunk?!? That's how the crime scenes she is tryouts no to solve happen!

The storyline has potential and I know that it is done in parts so the next books will build both the characters and story. There were some grammar errors but not enough to take away from the story. This is my first read of Olivia Howe and with it just being novella I didn't really get to adapt to her writing style. I will give the second part a chance.

What a great start to a new psychological thriller series. Meet Gwendolyn Anderson a detective who is trying to solve the biggest case of her career. The serial killer's name is The Doctor and he kills women after raping and torturing them leaving a bloody smile on thier faces. Detective Anderson is determined to solve these murders and put a stop to The Doctor at any cost. From the first page Olivia Howe has the reader on the edge of thier seats waiting to see what's going to happen next. Can Detective Anderson find out who The Doctor is or will he win at his mind games he's playing with her. Once you finish this book you will be anxiously waiting to read the next book in this series. Im looking forward to seeing what's going to happen next.

This is part of a serial, the story is not finished. You will need part 2.
Gwen is a homicide detective and the governor's daughter. She is on the trail of a serial killer nick-named the Doctor. He rapes ,tortures and murders young women.
Gwen is determined to catch him, and he is taunting her.
If this had been a complete book, it would be a lot better. I do not like having to wait for a conclusion. I'm not sure if this is written the way the characters are meant to be speaking or thinking, but the English grammar did not read well for me.

Killer by Olivia Howe is a great novella. Olivia Howe is an amazing and talented writer. I loved this story and cant wait to see what happens with Gwen on the trail of Doc a twisted serial killer. Things are starting to get personal for Gwen and Doc is testing how far her can push her. I loved how Gwen and her partner know each other so well and are great partners. This was such a great novella and I cant wait to read Savage. This is a must read.

Synopsis:

Valentino County Detective Gwendolyn Anderson tries to solve the biggest case of her Career. Serial Killer AKA The Doctor is on the loose, killing innocent women, leaving them dead with a smile painted on their face. Some trademark he has.

Detective Anderson is determined to do everything in her power to solve The Doc case before the FBI takes it under their wing. Can she take down the biggest serial killer in Valentino County without ruining her career in the process?

Little does she know, Doc is right in front of her face.(Goodreads)

Review:

Gwen Anderson is a detective who is trying very hard to catch a serial killer. She and her partner have been after him for months now, and everytime she thinks they are getting close to catching him, he alludes them. She is not worrying about breaking rules and knows she will do whatever it takes to catch him and get him off the streets.

Doc, as he has been named, stalks his victims, learning everything he can about their routines. He then makes his move, attacking the victim, torturing and raping them before slitting their throats. His trade mark is the smiley face he paints on the victim’s face in their own blood. The more victims he claims, the more the attacks seem to become more personal for Gwen. At the latest killing, he stayed on the fire escape waiting for Gwen to show up. When she realizes how close he was, she feels sick that he got away. It also makes her very mad and she doubles her efforts to catch him.

The characters are well developed and well rounded and you can tell that Gwen is a no-nonsense type of woman. I did not see many signs that she has a softer side, but that may not be observed until episode two. She did a few things that I do not think a smart woman would do, such as going home for a one-night-stand with a virtual stranger. That seemed very unrealistic to me. I liked reading the banter between her and her partner and I wonder if there is a romance in their future.

The mystery is carried on well throughout the story and I have no idea who the killer is. Since this is the first episode, I knew that I would not have all the answers to my questions when I finished this novella. And that is fine with me, because I knew before I started reading it that is was part of a serial. I will definitely be reading the second episode to find out what happens.

I would recommend this novella to anyone who enjoys a mystery suspense thriller. Just know that this is part of a serial and nothing is wrapped up at the end of this novella. The good thing is that the second episode is available, so you can read them back to back and hopefully get your questions answered.

A genuinely engaging read, it had everything going on and more and it was one that I just couldn’t take my eyes off for a single second.
Catching a serial killer is a task that nobody wants to have to take on but that is what is facing Gwen Anderson because as a homicide detective, she is facing the daunting truth that her partner and her and being led a merry chase by a deviant who has eluded them for far too long. Frustrated by the lack of progress, Gwen isn’t above taking chances and either bending or breaking the rules to get a foot on the ladder to getting this guy behind bars, Too many people are living in fear, he has to be stopped at all cost and as far as Gwen is concerned she will stop at nothing to make that happen.
I liked her determination but at times I found her a little hard, I got that her situation was far from rosy but she gave very little away, although I was screaming t her like a loon when she bedded a one-night stand, really woman are you not trying to catch a man that is killing and mutilating women and yet you swan off home with a guy you have just met!! I was incredulous.
The killer has been tagged with the moniker Doc, and I thought the author did a superb job of getting across the deviancy of his situation, he was a master manipulator who took his time to select and study his victims, before brutalising them in a way that was close to barbaric! His signature mark of a smiley face drawn in their own blood was macabre.
I think as the story took hold, it was obvious that his obsession was heading Gwen’s way and when he watches for her to arrive at the scene of his latest handy work, I was sure that it will be only a matter of time before they will meet in all too different circumstances. I have my fingers crossed for Gwen with that one.
As the first book in a novella series, they don’t come much better!!

During my journey through the introduction I was bubbling with excitement, because I felt I was viewing a premiere Lifetime suspense on my favorite channel #82. But when I by approximately 7/8 through I came to a crashing disappointment. The author lead me as a reader to believe the heroine was full of principles that govern her behavior to be A- class. But gradually as the story continues, she reveals herself to be the "bad boy " rather than the A.J Cook. Maybe I went into this novel expecting too much hope when I get into Savage Episode 2 , Gwen will redeem her transgression. But right this second I'm loving Devon so I'm definitely purchasing, Savage.
These are my sheech against Killer
1. Gwen a stuck up brat who defies authority !
2. The inability to take other opinions under consideration.
3. As a woman into today society ( sex after bar drinking after just meeting )
4. Hell I don't even think I want her near my precious Devon !!
5. Oh and she definitely has a drinking problem ! AA definitely in her future
I

My thumbs up for Killer ...
Well develop and well section characters for such a short introduction !
The author has a bright talent for TRILLER
The paste of the story was WOW. I love the paste. It took off with a smashing bang !

In conclusion Devon is my only reason for moving forward with Savage!!!

***4.5 STARS***

Killer is the first part of a serial series and it is also the first piece of work I have read by Olivia Howe. I will definitely be checking out her other books and continuing with this series.

The Doctor is a serial killer that has had over twenty women victims during his last few years of taking lives. He stays in Valentino County and is the best at what he does, no mistakes but now he seems to want to tease the detective that is after him...

Gwen is the Governor's daughter but doesn't want to be treated any different. She is good at her job and is determined to find The Doctor. She has been on the case for eight months and no real leads and only has six more months until the FBI take over. This is her case and needs to find him. Now. She finally gets a lead and it seems that he wants to get caught. This is a game to him and she is ready to play and win!

Can Gwen find The Doctor before his next victim? And what kind of games is he going to play in the next book?

Overall...it was a fast read with lots of action packed in. I will be reading part two very soon...

Quotes:

The epinephrine takes control of my body, forcing me to grin. I want to hear her fear. I want her to beg me for her life.

“What are you up to, Doc?” I whisper.

Doc is messing with me. He's probably watching me right now laughing.

This is the first book by Olivia Howe that I have read and I really liked it. This book is about a serial killer that has been killing for years. Detective Gwen Anderson and her partner have been working the case for the last eight months and they only have another six before the FBI take over the case from them. Gwen is determined to catch the serial killer known as the Doctor. She is so consumed with the case. The Doctor seems to be targeting her and playing games with her. Could he be closer than she thinks? This was a great fast paced quick read. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I am hooked on this series. I have an inkling of who the killer could be but only more reading will confirm it. Gwen is determined to make a name for herself separate from just being a senator’s daughter. The Doctor is a brutal killer. He likes to torture and kill. His signature is drawing a smiley face on the girls face with their own blood. I look forward to reading other books by Olivia Howe in the future.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Olivia Howe has given us the first installment to a story that will leave her readers on the edge of their seats. Once I started reading this book...I could not put it down!!!

This installment to the Killer Series is filled with mystery, drama, a little bit of romance, and so much more. It is also really well written!!! I was hooked from the very start of this story. I connected with the lead character and was guessing the whole time that I was reading. I cannot wait to read the next installment of this story to find out what comes next!!!

Ink Angels Book Blog received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A thirty something female police officer named Gwendolyn is on an important serial killer case. She and her partner Sullivan have a lot of built-up sexual tension, but the serial killer known only as Doc is playing a cat and mouse game with Gwen.

The story had a Silence of the Lambs feel with a modern sinister twist. It was a quick read and much shorter than I would have preferred. I enjoyed the book very much and would have liked to read more.

There was one particular scene in the story in which Gwen has a chance encounter with a stranger. I look forward to learning whether or not I have identified the killer. This is a terrific read for anyone who enjoys mystery, suspense, horror and romance.

Killer is an exciting thriller/mystery novella that was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. There is a cliffy and I can't wait to read the next installment.

Gwen is a detective that, along with her partner, is trying to catch the serial killer, The Doctor. She is taking risk in her attempt to do so that may cost her, her career.

The Doc is clever and painstakingly careful to not get caught. He dangles himself just outside of her reach and is taunting her.

Olivia Howe has done an excellent job in this novella and while it is short is didn't feel rushed. She develops the story and the characters wonderfully.

I received a copy for an honest review.

Killer, is episode one in The Killer Novella Series, by Olivia Howe. This book starts out with high intensity revolving around a serial killer. This is a good Novella, but end with a cliffhanger. Although if you are looking for a series of Novella's to read this would be an excellent series to start with.

Gwen, a detective, has been searching for the Doctor, a serial killer, for months now. The FBI is now on the verge of taking over her case since she and her partner haven't been able to produce any results. Gwen has thrown her life into this case, to the point she knows exactly what the doctor is thinking. But he always seen to be two steps ahead. The doctor likes to torment Gwen into thinking she is close to solving the case only to leave her with more dead ends.

Detective Gwen Anderson is determined to take down the most notorious serial killer The Doctor (a.k.a. Doc). Known for his gruesome and torturous murder rituals to female victims, Doc seems like a genius who doesn't leave a clue behind and he's always one step ahead of the detectives. Gwen should keep her distance, but she'll stop at nothing to put Doc behind bars. Along with her sexy partner Sullivan, Gwen puts herself in Doc's mind, but is she getting to close for comfort?

This book is amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves thrilling suspense with a hint of mystery and romance. Great job Olivia Howe! I can't wait for the next episode.

Killer is Episode 1 of the Killer Novella Series.

Detective Gwen Anderson along with her partner Detective Sullivan are investigating the case of the serial killer 'The Doctor'.

Gwen is attempting to solve this case before the FBI take it over. She is on a six month deadline.

The Doc begins to play cat and mouse with her.

I was pulled into this book from the beginning and felt I was trying to figure it out along with the detectives.

WOW! The Prologue alone deserves 5 stars. That was definitely something else.
The story is really good and even though crime mysteries are not my preferred genre I definitely enjoyed this one. Very well written story.
Cannot wait to read the next episode to know what happens. I think I know who the killer is (The Doctor) unless the author totally takes me by surprise and makes him someone else. If it is who I think it is then it will make things interesting.
Will recommend to my friends but only if they are not squeamish, there is a lot of blood and murder descriptions.

I absolutely loved this story. Although it is a cliff hanger and I need the second book, Killer keeps you engaged and wanting to know what is going to happen next. The Doc is crazy, seriously crazy! Detective Anderson has been on the hunt for a serial killer known as Doc for a long time. It seems the good Doc is always one step ahead of her though. With a past that haunts her, a tragedy that keeps her on the hunt, will Detective Anderson be able to catch the Doc? He may be closer than she thinks. I recommend this series but be warned, you will need the next book!

Knocking off a star for the editing here. It was hard to follow at times because of the choppy sentences. That being said - this is a really fast and intense read and I immediately moved to book 2.

Gwen is sassy, arrogant and a pain in the ass. On the heels of a serial killer that they've nicknamed The Doctor, Gwen makes some crazy moves that leave the reader going "seriously?" All of her choices culminate in the intense moment that ends book 1....and then again in book 2. It's a fast paced, crazy ride that left me gasping.

Loved it!!!!!

I don't usually read psychological suspense books (which I plan on rectifying), but this one got me wrapped up and I find myself playing Detective.

Well written and the head games leave you trying to decipher the killer's motives and next move.

Book 1 leaves you with a cliffhanger and frustrated. UGH!!!

(Time to get my hands on Book 2!!!)

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. The author gifted me a book for an honest review but I was quickly sucked in. It is fast pace and I found myself wanting to keep reading. I felt like I was one of the detectives. It is a cliffhanger so of course I immediately bought Episode 2. I recommend this book especially if you are into suspense/mystery.
