Exactly a year ago, I read the first book in this series - Girl on the Half Shell- and I was immediately mesmerized with this story.
Chrissie Parker, daughter of famous musician Jack Parker, is a confused, spoiled prep school girl when we first meet her. She falls hopelessly in love with rock superstar, Alan Manzone, and messes up her life royally along the way.

The books follow Chrissie in her life and endless pursuits of love and affection. She goes to college, believes she falls in love with Neil Stanton, but can never shake the draw she has to Alan Manzone.

Alan is magnetic, his energy palpable through the pages of especially this book. He loves Chrissie. She pushes and he pulls and vice-versa. Despite their long laundry list of issues and shortcomings as a couple - he's a manwhore and she's a mess - I have pulled for these two from the beginning.

THIS final book, is the most beautiful of all four. Poetic, romantic, lustful and painful, WARD weaves the rest of this story through the reader's heart.
I don't like Neil, and I continue not to like him throughout this book. YES, some readers will feel empathy toward him. I don't.
I do love where Chrissie goes in this story, and the family connections woven throughout including the birth of her daughter.

I REFUSE to give spoilers, but I thought the ending was exactly what is should be, and the EPILOGUE left me with a long list of wishes and dreams for Chrissie -
AND I 'm pretty sure they will be answered in the spin off series - with Kaley.

THIS IS a must-read series. I adore each book. 6+ stars for the ending.

Quite an action-packed ending to the four-book series, during which my allegiances definitely shifted from Neil to Alan. Two big secrets are revealed which I did not see coming, but Chrissie finally gets her HEA in the end. A fitting finale, although the family’s story doesn’t end here (yay!).

This book ("Only Him" on Amazon) is the fourth of FIVE in the series, but this is the last one from Chrissie's point of view. (Like an idiot, I thought this was the last one in the series and that the one from Alan's POV was going to be a parallel novel, but it isn't -- it includes flashbacks, but it chronologically completes the quintet.)

What can I say? This book is heartrending. Addictive. All-consuming. Glorious. Makes you stay up until two in the morning to finish and then it's all you can think about anyway. Many of the lines took my breath away.

It's not perfect -- I still don't like Chrissie's mercurial character. Alan can also be a royal buttface. Throughout the series, it seems like he says things just to be cruel (though in book 5, we relive some of the crucial moments from his POV and he's a little bit redeemed). Their relationship is as complicated and flawed as they are. But dang.

I couldn't have prepared myself for a more gripping finale

Wowsa.  I started this last night and fell asleep at 2am with 15% to go.  Woke up at 6am and had to finish!!!  Susan was right when she commented about wanting to throw my Kindle at some point.  But how could I expect anything less from this epic journey of love, pain, regrets and self discovery?

The Girl in the Comfortable Quiet ends the saga of Chrissie, Neil and Alan in a most arresting fashion.  If I thought for once things could be easy for Chrissie, I was sorely mistaken hence wanting to throw my Kindle.  Though Neil and Alan do have a huge presence in this book, Chrissie is the voice of the series and what a heart wrenching journey this has been.  Huge discoveries happen in this book.  HUGE.  Seriously heart wrenching.  I can't even formulate a non spoilery sentence regarding what she goes through.  Just know through all her self doubts and self preservation, decisions made and certain paths traveled, this story had to unfold the way it did.  It leaves no room for second guessing the outcome and ends it sweetly. And I loved every minute of it.

Wow!! Just Wow!! This final installment in 'The Girl on the Half Shell' freaking blew me away. It all comes full circle, and a roller coaster ride of gigantic proportions! I loved Chrissy in this book, I loved how much she had grown emotionally, and though she still has some hang-ups, she finally went after what she wanted and the hell with everyone else. Loved her concert. Loved her message to Neil and the way it was delivered. The author did a fantastic job of keeping me on the edge of my seat! She impressed me with her knowledge of the recording industry, the politics, the PR, and the lengths those involved will go to in order to remain on top.

Look forward to more from Susan Ward!

Exactly the way I would have ended it!

I honestly love this series. It deals with so much and I loved it all. I remember the dates that Susan Ward used in these books because I lived them, prominently Kurt Cobain's death. It changed me as it did the main characters in this book....before I give to much away read this series you will love it.

Oh dear... I sit here, after reading all night and barely making into work today, and I am so overwhelm with all the emotions book #4 arised in me: I was happy for Chrissie as she enjoyed her pregnancy and marriage to Neil. Annoyed when Neil started acting so weird. Cautious when Alan suddenly appeared out of the blue. Shocked to my core when the truth about Neil came out. Angst when Chrissie's life spiral out of control again. And not surprised, and really wishing deep deep inside me since the beginning that Kaley was his daughter....
And now, I feel sort of empty and lost...There was a lot that was left unexplained in this story, so many loose ends to tie up... I NEED ANSWERS ! I WANT MY ANSWERS! I AM HAVING A HISSY FIT HERE!...
I need to know more about Jack and Linda, I need to know what Jesse's the journalist role was, I want to hate Renee even more for being such a lousy and selfish friend. I want Kaley to know who her real father is. Nonetheless, I still care for Neil and need to know he is ok....
It's funny, I started not liking Alan Manzone and Chrissie to much at the beginning, in book #1 and know I am craving to learn more about them...just like in real life, you should never judge a book series by it's first installment..always read the full story....

This book was so frustrating, or should I say, Chrissie was frustrating. I kind of had a feeling what it is that Neil must have done to be so bad to make Chrissie leave. I just wasn't expecting her to find out the way she did. I don't think anything Chrissie could have done would have changed things but she was something else in the way she would treat Neil. She was in such denial of reality and what her true feelings were for both Neil and Alan. I also was not expecting the way Chrissie found out about Jack and Linda and she had every right to react the way she did. Linda was the one who was in the wrong for she said and did and I wished that Jack could have witnessed how Linda had treated his daughter. What can I say about Renee. I believe that she is jealous of Chrissie and treats her the way that she does. She doesn't really have Chrissie's best interest at heart. That was evident in what she did to her. The ending to this series didn't answer anything. It just left me with more questions about how certain things turned out. I just hope the spin-offs will clear up a few things.

What can I say about this book, except that it was the perfect ending to the Chrissie and Manny saga---that actually wasn't an ending...
I adored this series for every reason imaginable but mostly because the characters were realistic and imperfect and their love was something most people dream of...but it's a long difficult road. I was sad to finish this series, but elated when I read Broke Crown, because the story continued and then came to a wonderful conclusion. Keep reading peeps, Susan Ward nailed it with this rock star romance saga and the Sand and Fog series is every bit as awesome.

The ending to this series blew me away. There were a few surprises along the way that I did not see coming. If you have not read this series you "must" read it. I fell in love with Chrissie and Alan's story. I was happy to see that it does not end here. I must read "Broken Crown" next.

If I describe this series I would say it's a rockstar love triangle.. Hundreds of books were about this.. And I hate love triangles...

But this series was amazing... It was beyond the cliché. I didn't like or hate any of the main characters...they were all humans...they were complex like in real life..no black and white..

Chrissie the narrator was very confusing...she seemed to me self-absorbed...Sometimes she's strong...sometimes weak.. Her walking away from Allen has many interpretations.. May be she was scared of his overwhelming character...afraid to lose herself into him. May be she didn't want to disappoint Jack and was doing what's expected from her..same as Neil.

All in all...it was a thought provoking series...and seems there is more to come

So stayed up through the night to finish this book. Overall this series is a 3* read. I’d guessed what the ‘pink elephant’ in the room was by book 3 so that was no surprise. I’m unhappy with the Epilogue as I think it raised mire questions that one would want at the end of a book. The amount of times I wanted to slap Chrissie Parker was off the scale, even for me who tends to find most modern heroines aNnOYing. Not sure how many books Ms Wars had written before this but I have to admit that the story telling got better as the series progressed.

All in all a worthwhile read.

Worst series ever!

This is one of the hardest series I've ever read! I've wanted to slap Chrissy so many times for being so petty and irritating! I seriously don't understand what Neil and Andy see in her! I knew I should have just given up on this series from the first book but I thought maybe she'll come good in the end and the Epilogue was just dire and felt like even the author had had enough of her in the end!

What a disappointing end to a series. This book not only did not answer your question it frustrates you and the way that Chrissy never truly grows up really pissed me off. Her reaction to Neil was just wrong, I do not care how much you thought you loved him that you guys were best friends. He had been using her from the moment he met her in book one. He used her name, her father's fame, so that he could cover up being gay from the very beginning. It doesn't matter that overtime he developed platonic feelings for her and they had a friendship. He was never honest and he ruined her life. And who doesn't tell their father or the supposed love of their life, that their husband is gay! It's totally ridiculous that she doesn't want to tell anybody and allows him to sling blame on her! Who else knew that Neil was gay since book two? She was so obviously lying to herself about everything and then I just don't understand what happened at the end with Alan. The ending just left more questions. He said no children and then she is still lying to him! She doesn't tell him about the Kaley be being his and then boom it's over! Insert epilogue where she rambles and talks about her children, plural. What the crap? Is she with Alan? So disappointed with one.

I am just so hurt. I don't even know where to begin my thoughts on the story. I jumped out of my usual Labbe order to read this last installment of the series. I was so eager to finaly learn Neil's secret that jumped over 50 other books in my to read library and started on the last installment. I read the first 60% of the book until 12 AM in the morning. I woke up the next day instantly wanted to finish the heart aching story. Neil's secret was painful yet I knew that was the problem. I think Chrissy was just blinded by Alan that she just didn't want to see the truth about Neil. I think Chrissy and Neil's time apart during there marriage was how Neil kept his secret so long. Boy he did a good job at living a double life. The story was just so painful to read. I felt a lump in my throat as I read each line of the story. Once I reached 70% of the story, my emotions and feeling just changed. I just felt anxious from that point on. The story was just so strong and painful that my bones just hurt.

Now as I sit hear, after reading the series i feel incomplete. I have so many questions and I some ways i feel hurt. How could Ward just end a 4 installment with so many unanswered questions. Im confused and I don't know what to do next. I have this constant ache because I don't know the ending. That's how you know you just read a good book. When you still feel the emotions in your heart and bones. Now I just have to find a way to shake these emotions so I can return to normal.

Wow, just wow. What a roller-coaster of emotions this book turned out to be, way better than I expected.
It took her 3 books but Chrissie finally made the decision to take control of her life and her emotions like the adult she is. It was heartbreaking what happened with her and Neil. I kind of figured out about Neil when Chrissie saw him talking to Andy in London, but the build-up to THAT scene was so full of angst, I was hyperventilating.
There was a lot that was left unexplained in this story so I got a bit frustrated with that. Jack never explained about Linda, Rene was not mentioned after the "concert from hell", I didn't really get Jesse Harris's role... He was a neighbor who had a crush on her and wrote a book about her, and that was it? What was the point? Did she ever tell Alan Kayle is his daughter? Did she ever tell Neil?!
The epilogue mentions something about her burying Neil 10 years ago after a mention of Kurt Cobain's suicide... I got a bit confused, did he die or was she referring to the end of their marriage?!
I feel for Neil, and I think he was a nice guy. I really hope he got his happy ending too.

This is really a rating of the 4 books in the series.
This series contains lots of plot lines I usually;
avoid,
find eye-roll inducing or
kindle-throwing-worthy;

Yet I couldn’t stop reading, a testament to how well written these books are. Is it perfect, no, but a solid 4 stars IMO. The author managed to make me believe that our heroine is just immature and naïve, and done very realistically so. She makes a ton of mistakes and yet I bought it, and all the angst that went along with it. I couldn’t turn the page fast enough. I wanted to see how she matured, handled the next situation in her life. I cheered her on and yelled at her, but I couldn’t stop reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole series and will definitely be reading this author again. I have a feeling this series isn’t over yet, and I’m hoping it doesn’t become dragged out drivel because right now, it’s great and I don’t want to see it ‘ruined’ by that. Too many series get tarnished by being dragged out past their enjoyment and it would be a shame for that happen to this one.

Great ending to a fantastic series!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from the second I started reading it last night. I loved Susan's writing of this book and how although Chrissie has changed she's very much the same with her "lame, so lame" comments. My favorite part was the suspense leading up to Chrissie finding out Neil's secret. I could not put the book down! She did such a great job building the suspense and describing Chrissie's feelings that I felt like I was right along side Chrissie with my own heart beating wilding and saying "No! Don't open the door!"

I'm glad Chrissie finally got her HEA, in the sense that she finally finds herself and is true to herself about her wants and feelings. I wish the ending was prolonged a little more but I can't wait to read more about Kaley in Susan Ward's soon to be released new series!

Wasted reading

There was no plot on this book. It basically showed how it took 20 years before a HAE for both Alan and Chrissie. It jumps year to years on every chapters. It also showed how both heroine continues to get married to other people but not to one another. This book ruined the other series. Nothing on this book made sense. I don't get how all her kids 5 of them were all his. Don't waste your money on this. Nothing on this book was different from the other series. The female is still wishy washy and the male as a manhore. Unrealistic plot...it's an epilogue that got written as the main plot. Disappointed...

A poetic love story

No matter how you read this you feel the pull. The way love Is so unfair and yet we yearn for it. I agree it's better not to see the future because of we could some of us would change that. We fight for what we want and not let it go by the waste side. I think that's what Ms. Parker had to learn in life. If not with Alan "Manny" with whoever she spent the remaining days of her life with.

I loved this story. The characters made you hate them, love them and want to scream at them to just act right. What a deep and entrancing book that I was unable to put down! I recommend this series!

I had a knot in my throat reading this book. Lies! OMG…… I love angst and I love emotional roller coaster rides. There are those books that you read that feel like you have been stabbed in the chest. I feel like a wound will fester after this one. I am so invested the lives of these characters.

Chrissie is confronted with more unexpected changes. Truths about her father and Neil’s shocking secret & Alan’s unrelenting love for her. I want More…..
