Prayer is not hard; it's a conversation. People of every culture and of every age group can do this. We make it harder with misunderstandings of what God wants, who He is, and how He views us. The desire of this book is to gather nuggets of wisdom from people who have spent time with God and journaled their findings. These quotes are intended to inspire us to continue our journey and fan the flame of passion to spend time with God.

This book has been categorized by topics to help the ease of use. However, as this is an electronic file, you can also use the search function to find quotes by author or specific words. I understand there are differing views on prayer, so I did my best to include all the main thoughts on prayer. You may come across some with which you disagree - keep reading, with over 2,500 quotes from 400 authors you will find plenty that you will inspire you to greater depths in prayer, so feel free to highlight those that encourage you.

This is an exceptional collection of powerful quotes about prayer. I liked reading through a few pages at a time and seeing which quotes really stood out to me. They are grouped into subjects. I appreciate the amount of work it took to assemble these quotes. At the end are some short articles about prayer that are very practical. I read this book a while, then put it away a while...then back to it. It would be hard to read straight through ... but worth the time to contemplate the statements about prayer.

This book contains lots of quotes about prayer, centered around topics. Some topics deal with why we should pray, the role of prayer, and the benefits of prayer. Shorter also includes quotes about the roles of the Persons of the Trinity in prayer.

The quotes come from a variety of people. Some are contemporary Christian authors, like Max Lucado and Bill Johnson. Some are people noted in history, such as Blaise Pascal and Martin Luther. There are many people quoted that I have never heard of.

Shorter has included several articles at the end of the collection of quotes. The articles are very helpful to anyone wanting encouragement in their prayer life. He has tips to a better prayer life, ways to find God, and ways to effectively pray for others. He has also included great prayer lists, with suggestions in praying for your husband, wife, kids, marriage, and pastor.

This is not the kind of book one would read cover to cover. One could look at the subject headings at the beginning of the book and find quotes in the area of interest. I did not find the quotes as inspiring as the articles by the author.

Quite an impressive collection of prayer quotes. There are some gold nuggets in here, but unfortunately half the quotes are from modern preachers/ authors from charismatic circles that tend to emphasize human experience and man's ability over the sovereignty of God. It also bugged me that qoutes from false teachers such as Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen are included right along with good old C.H. Spurgeon. Regardless, I was happy to collect a good 25 pages of great prayer quotes out of this book.
