Nai and the crew of the 2nd Ship head for the metropolis of Vantonam, with 1st Ship's Jiki on board under Captain Tsukitachi's orders. The group takes some time off to enjoy the city, but while browsing the Nyanperona Shop, they are called out by a young boy, and...?! Later, Nai receives a secret communication with a dire message from Karoku as Circus begins planning an attack upon the "Smoky Mansion," where Karoku says he is being held. After the fierce battle ends and the dust settles, what truth will await Nai and Gareki...?!
The story becomes a little hard to keep up with, but oh my GOD do I love this art style. Everything is still pretty confusing, but it's got me wanting to read more and more.
This omnibus nearly wraps up the anime adaptation, leaving us before the last few minutes of Episode 13. Besides this series having a very special place in my heart, the manga is definitely going to come and live aside the anime in that place. Once again, we have a very eventful and enjoyable experience that was hard to put down, and a faster pace that kept things more engaging this time around.
The Smoky Mansion arc is the standout here, with great attention to detail and intensity. I liked how one scene was completely different here for a better explanation of a motive and how events following this reveal are different compared to the anime adaptation. But I'm still curious about the Karoku situation that is revealed to us. Let's see if the manga will be able to answer this, since the anime couldn't.
I also liked the bonus stories, since they were super cute, heartwarming, and funny. Touya Mikanagi's art is still super gorgeous, and looking at more of the Drama CD comics, I start to notice how she draws the seiyuus with similar characteristics as the characters they play, which is pretty cool.
I'm going to be taking a break from this series since I'm requesting it through my local library's Interlibrary Loan system, which requires that the product in question be released 6 months prior to the request date (Omnibus 4 is almost there), but I hope that when I pick it up again, I'll be able to experience the magic that is Karneval in general. I can't wait for more adventures!
This ends just about where the anime does, with Gareki .
The manga feels like it's kind of picking up, or at least I hope so. The manga is beautifully drawn and interesting enough, but nothing mind blowing yet. I'm hoping for a little more next time, but I have high hopes, and I've got the next omnibus on preorder.
Another great addition to the series. Love how innocent the main characters are and how adorable their interactions are. Once again, I sometimes have trouble following the panels/text, but less so than in other issues! Artwork is gorgeous, story is great, and overall it's a fun read and series. Much prefer the manga to the anime (though I really like both).
Chapter 28 had me in my feels, cried like a baby. I can't remember where the anime ended but I feel like we're catching up to it? Can't wait to hit uncharted territory!
I know I said this before, but the art style and character designs for this are really, really good. In a way kind of like Pandora Hearts. Anyway, another good volume.
