CAT4 Level E Practice Book: Year 8, Ages 12-13: Eight Question Types Taught, Three Full 168-Question Mock Tests, an Explanation for Every Option - ... Spatial Reasoning

Rate this book
648 questions, and every one of them explains all five options.

Three complete mock tests. All eight CAT4 question types taught before they are tested. For the child who says "I just guessed" — because guessing is what a child does when a question type is new to them, and this book removes the newness.

What is in it

Eight taught chapters, one per question the method, the traps that catch children out, two worked examples, then a 16-question drill — 128 drill questions in all, each built to a named difficulty tier rather than shuffled.Three complete mock tests of 168 questions, in CAT4's real three-part sitting order and to the published time limits — 72 minutes of testing, with an error grid to mark against.648 worked answers, not 648 answer letters. Every question explains the option that is right and the four that are not.A chapter for the adult. Reading the school's report — SAS, stanines, national percentile rank — pacing, English as an additional language, access arrangements, and what to do next. Why the wrong answers are the point

Every wrong option was built to catch one specific mistake, and the answer names it. Not "the answer is C", but "this one follows the row and ignores the column", or "this one mirrors the holes through a fold whose flap never covered them" — in the words of the chapter that taught it. A child who gets a question wrong learns which habit did it, which is the part a mark scheme leaves out.

Written for Year 8. The vocabulary is held to a Year 8 band rather than carried down from an adult book, and the figure and number questions finish a rung above Level D — three-fold paper folding, three-by-three grids with size as a dimension, two-step number rules.

Written, not generated. Every question in this book is original and was written for it. Nothing is copied, adapted or traced from any official test, practice material or other publication.

Which level does your child sit?

CAT4 comes in ten levels (X, Y, Pre-A and A to G), and the school chooses which one a child takes — from their year group, not their ability. This book is Level E.

Level X — Year 2, ages 6 to 7Level Y — Year 3, ages 7 to 8Level A — Year 4, ages 8 to 9Level B — Year 5, ages 9 to 10Level C — Year 6, ages 10 to 11Level D — Year 7, ages 11 to 12Level E — Year 8, ages 12 to 13 — this bookLevel F — Years 9 and 10, ages 13 to 15Level G — Years 11 and 12, ages 15 to 17Schools occasionally sit a level above or below the year group, so if your child is near a boundary, ask which level they use before you buy.

The first time they see it shouldn't be the real thing

CAT4 measures reasoning, not knowledge. It is not a test that can be revised for, and this book does not claim to raise a child's ability. What it removes is surprise — a child who has met every question type before meets the real test with less of it.
