A woman swept into a dangerous world of international espionage can trust no one—least of all the assassin she has fallen in love with—in this intricate thriller by master storyteller Evelyn Anthony
When Elizabeth Cameron leaves Rome for the Middle East at her uncle Huntley’s request, she has no idea that she’s about to become a pawn in an international conspiracy that threatens her life and everything she believes America stands for.
Huntley Cameron is a kingmaker. One of the most powerful men in the world, he has a brilliant plan to place a candidate in the White House, which, if successful, could be the greatest political coup the United States has ever seen.
Bruno Keller grew up in abject poverty fighting for survival. Now, he’s a paid assassin who lives by his own code of honor. But his latest assignment comes with an unexpected complication: a beautiful, vulnerable woman.
Hunted by both the CIA and the KGB, Elizabeth and Bruno can trust no one—not even their own countrymen. As the truth about a diabolical conspiracy comes to light, the pieces are in play for an assassination that will have political, religious, and economic reverberations for decades to come.

The US presidential election is nearing, and the KGB has its number one agent/mole in place to make certain that they control the outcome. One of the wealthiest and most powerful American businessmen has been unknowingly under their control and is financing an assassination plan that will ensure disastrous outcomes when the KGB-chosen candidate is in office. The Rebublican candidate leans far to the right, promoting white supremacy and the suppression of immigration. The Democratic candidate is promoting a liberalism that fuels those prejudicial fires. But, a third candidate has entered the race; one who has become popular because of a moderate approach that appeals to the grander American political ideals. It is difficult to believe that THE ASSASSIN was published in 1970! This Cold War spy thriller is the amazing accomplishment of the late Evelyn Anthony, but remains relevant and exciting in 2018.
Excellent spy thriller/love story. "The Assassin" sucks you in from page one. There are no boring, tedious parts in this novel. Bruno Keller is a compelling hero, one you can't help but admire and root for. Elizabeth Cameron is a lovely match for the brooding assassin. She's smart, beautiful, and utterly likable. Definitely worth reading!
