From the "gay capital" of Asia, Thailand, Tetay Sirapob Kaewmak's Rainbowlogy is an informative, side-splitting autobiographical essay that doubles as a guide to the LGBTQIA+ community. Through chapters exploring the many facets of gender diversity and Tetay's personal experiences, the book offers knowledge and heartfelt storytelling. Rainbowlogy is an invaluable companion for readers navigating their own identities and for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of LGBTQIA+ lives and experiences.
I'm gay, but this book made me realize I still know so little about being gay! Haha! Rainbowlogy offers a wide range of interesting topics about the many facets of gender diversity, most of which I only learned upon reading this--terms such as the Kinsey Scale, the Unicorn Scale, the gay and lesbian archetypes (Bull Dykes, Fairies, etc.), the Weinberg's model. It was fun learning about these. It really felt like I was studying a subject about my identity.
And it wasn't just the new terms. There were several important discussions too about gender discrimination, gay sex, gay dating, the rise of BLs, the struggles of coming out, and many more that I could relate to. It was even made more fun upon reading Khun Tetay's personal experiences. Kinda makes me feel that I found a new friend in this book. Appreciated also the footnotes, especially the comparison of Thailan and Philippines' culture. And the random pop references! Gosh! They're so funny!
I genuinely believe this is an important book, not just for us queers, but for all of us humans. I wish many people could read this and learn more about gender diversity.
