She is different, unique, and one of a kind. Even in this weird new world. In a world ravaged by an inter-species war and almost devoid of Witches, she has to hide, keeping her heritage a secret. Only two people knew the truth about her: her father and her mentor; her savior, Seth. A highly trained assassin, she kills with impunity if the target deserves such a sentence. Unfortunately, far too many do. The lawlessness that stretches from coast to coast allowing unspeakable acts to go unpunished.
Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, and a host of other species now run free upon the earth and some of them were downright evil. She tasks herself with dealing with wrongdoers whenever she can. She is strong, fearless and powerful. An anomaly, probably the only Witch/Wolf hybrid left alive. She shields herself from detection. If anyone knew she has Witch DNA they would all come after her and she couldn’t take such a horde on and live.
Her assignments as the ‘go to’ assassin for The Council give her plenty of opportunity to wreak justice upon those who deal in death and destruction. Her targets mostly found dead with black lips and tongue; a result of her spells and not just the poison everyone thinks. So, when the new Head of the Council, Basilius, a Demon, tasks her with taking out the most powerful Vampire alive she can’t refuse. Can she?
The Black Rose will strike again for the good of humanity. It’s what she believes she’s been born to do and she will tackle this as she does all of her missions; with deadly intent. There’d be no difference this time. Would there? Or is the dangerous Vampire, Cassius Allarde, not all that he seems?

Come follow Rose’s journey as she fights to find out the truth. About the Demon, the Vampire and the Witch hunt that destroyed most of her kind. Book 1 in A K Michaels new series, The Black Rose Chronicles. If you like your dystopian books with the added bonus of supernatural beings in abundance then this book is for you.

Rose is a strong, fearless and powerful assassin and the Council gives her plenty of opportunities to wreak justice on those who deal in death and destruction but something is off about her newest target in this bold, dark and edgy new dystopian urban fantasy.

Rose’s newest assignment has her seeking out the most powerful vampire alive at the behest of the head of the Council and the reader can’t help but get drawn into the intrigue and excitement as Rose begins to believe that things are what they seem and Cassius isn’t what she’s been lead to believe. There is lots of hot and steamy sex in the story between Rose and her mentor Seth but things get even hotter when she meets Cassius and passion erupts but that causes all kinds of emotional turbulence as Rose becomes torn between Seth and her target. The characters are strong, bold and demanding as they pull you into their world and the fast paced, smooth flowing plot has adrenaline pumping throughout with lots of suspense, excitement and passion while vivid imagery brings the story to life and the intriguing plot ensures that there is never a dull moment, especially as there is danger everywhere.

There was no way that I could put this story down once I got started, this fascinating world is daring with a dark and edgy twist and a bold and sexy heroine that draws you in and refuses to let go and I can’t wait to read the next one. Warning: major cliffhanger.

REVIEW

Rose is born in a time where supers are free to walk the earth but more than that, they are free to destroy it all as well. Rose's mother is a witch and her father a werewolf and someone is out to destroy all witches. Rose’s mother knows they are coming and she hurries off to the hiding place although her mother does not stay with her.

Rose is soon taken to a friend of her father’s home his name is Seth and he is a witch. He trains Rose, and comes to love Rose although he knows she is not his mate.
Rose is a powerful Assassin and is hired by the council to take out those who are killing and doing other horrible things. She does not kill however until she knows it’s a warranted need.
The new head of the council is a powerful demon and after taking on the job Rose finds she can not follow through with it.
Cassius the vampire she is sent to kill does not seem to be as he is portrayed.

Can Seth, Cassius and Roses father keep her safe?
What will the head of the council do to her?

I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AND THIS IS MY HONEST OPINION .... OVER 18 READING......
Rose O'Connell is a mix breed but in her time she keeps what she is, well hidden behind the shields she was taught to keep up as a very young child. Her father , Brendan was a wolf and her mother,Marie a witch, with the witch being what she needs to keep hidden most, years before for some unknown reason many of the different species started hunting and killing all witches ,even if you were only a part witch. The Black Rose is an assassin, very well trained in weapons and in her wolf and witch abilities. So a demon Basilius (now Head of the Council which hires her for most of her assignments, comes to Seth's private encampment, where her father had brought her as a small child for safety when the hunters came and took her mother, Seth agreed to keep her 1 week and she still lives with him. Seth is the only other witch she has ever met. Basilius tells her and Seth that Cassius Allarde, one of the oldest vampires left alive, just elected Lamia Summus Dominum (Vampire High Duke) plans to gain power and then have vampires take over and enslave any species he can. He with held the name until Rose excepted the assignment and as soon as he said who it was Seth yelled no, but because of what the demon said Cassius was doing Rose still said she would do it. Seth kept begging her not to do it, he felt he would loose her if she did. Rose finally after 20 years gets Seth to tell her what little her father and he have found out about the witch hunters, the why seems to be because of some legend about a Witch bringing death and destruction to all. The demon returns he has an ideal how to get her it to the vampires well guarded house if she is trained in computers, most people aren't since most don't have electric, running water, food ect. But Rose is, he tells her she has to come that day, he will transport her and she has only 3 weeks to do the job. Rose will have a problem , that will lead to being attacked by what looks like a fairy at the gates of Cassius hotel, she is seriously hurt, Cassius tries everything he can think of to get help but since there are not many doctors especially surgeons (and no brain surgeons that he can find) he even calls out for a witch if any are left for a healing spell, he's willing to pay anything to save her and he has no ideal why she is really there or who she really is. But when she doesn't call Seth , he will call her father, who just happens to be talking to someone when the call comes that tells him he will be going with him because his skills will be needed. He has also told Brendan how important his daughter will be to all the species, if she stays were she is till she find and excepts her true mate. But they must find each other and except each other and when they announce it the world will get a gift like no other. That there are people who don't want that to happen and have tried to stop it already. If anything happens to her like dying the gift will never be given . Can they get help to her in time? Who does she need to meet in that huge hotel? Can she except and give control to any man?She hasn't been able to yet except to Seth in his bedroom only, but as much as he wishes he was, he has told her he is not her true mate but it hurts to let her go. Is Cassius the man he says he is or the man Basilius says he is, because only one can be telling the truth.

Brilliantly different read by AK Michaels. Set in a dystopian future rather than a paranormal present day, this book had an entirely different feel. It felt quite dark and gritty but still with the edge of humour you expect from Ms Michaels.

The world has been plagued by a inter-species war and witches have been hunted to almost extinction due to a dark prophesy. Rose is part witch, part werewolf and the survivor of a witch hunt when she was a young child. Left with a guardian whilst her father hunted those who hunted them, she is trained well...too well you could say by her fathers friend, Seth, and becomes a lethally effective assassin - The Black Rose.

She is sought out by the Demon, Basilius, to take down a rogue Vampire, Cassius Allarde, who is seeking to unite all "supers" under his commend and take over the world and hunt humans without regard. But Rose does not follow orders blindly, she researches her targets well and only kills when she knows, without doubt, that they are worthy of death.

When she goes to meet the engimatic Cassius, under the guise of working for him, she is hurt by a "super" and wakes up under Cassius' care. The man she meets has little in common with the intel she has been provided. So Rose gets to work determining the fate of Cassius and his followers before she concludes her assignment.

NO spoilers here but there is a cliffie (damnit!!!). I loved all these new characters. Rose, mysterious hybrid assassin; Seth - Ex Special Forces Soldier and Witch; Cassius - Vampire High Duke and all around hottie and Basilius - the new power hungry Demon leader of the Council (think paranormal UN).

There are also great secondary characters that I hope we see more of in the other books in the series such as Sue and Valentine (who I think are adorably self effacing). There are also a slew of icky bad guys that by the end of the book you will be making up your own tortures to inflict on them (Ms Michaels writes really good slimebags!!!!)

I read this in one go as I could not put it down and it was a well paced story with snappy dialogue and great interplay between the characters - both allies and protagonists! There are also nods to other paranormal authors throughout the book, Ms Michaels is not afraid to highlight the work of other authors to her large fanbase or to take a pop at certain sparklies! Roll on book 2!

I was given a ARC of this book by the author for an honest review.

******OMG A K MICHAELS A NEW BREED OF BOOK AND A NEW SERIES BUT SHE HAS TAKEN IT WHERE YOU WOULD NOT EVER EXPECT IT TO GO AND TAKE YOU !!! **************
I received this amazing book as an ARC from the very talented and out of this world Author A K Michaels in exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey's very honest opinion of " THE BLACK ROSE CHRONICLES, DECEIT & LIES".
Ms. Michaels is the famous author of the HIGHLAND WOLF CLAN SERIES - along with 5UPERNATURAL ENFORCEMENT BUREAU SERIES-THE WITCH, THE WOLF & THE VAMPIRE BKS 1-3 and so many others. Having read and followed the Highland Wolf Clan along with the SEB series. Ms. Michaels now has me hook-line & sinker with this amazing one.
From the very first page you are captured and held there until the end. From the beginning of each page to the next you are left on the edge of your seat/edge of the page. Left wanting more and more of this fabulous story.
The Black Rose is a truly wonderful story about a young women by the name of Rose - her full name is Rose Marie O'Connell. She is known as the assassin the council-only they know who she is but not what she looks like.
The council has chosen a new King- his name is Cassius. Someone wants him dead. They have called in the Black Rose- to do the job. What they haven't realized or didn't know about her is that she always does a recon about her mark. The Rose gets to know her subject well before she moves in for the kill.
During this time Rose has gone under cover working for the new King as a computer geek. Little does he know that she is working under cover and also a witch.
You see the vampires over the years have been killing off the witches along with other paranormal's. Now the King has new ideas and new rules that he is putting into action.
The Black Rose has a lot of twist and turns in it. This is a fang-tastic read. This is one book you have to read. Does the Rose kill the king? Or is there something else for them together in their future? Why would the Rose be lied to ? And what is the real reason the demon wants Cassius dead?
For all these answers and more you HAVE TO READ THIS STORY!! I recommend it to everyone -especially those that love Paranormal!! Mismousey gives a firm rating of 70 out 5 stars.

What a good surprise! I wasn't sure I would like it (solely based on the cover because I'm superficial okay; Nice photo but dat font doe) but I loved it! I loved Rose's character: badass, funny, smart, and lethal. Weak heroines bug me to no end. My favorite character was Orthon (surprise!) because he was always on point! Oh, and Kuan. Dude is mah homie. Let us all take a moment to appreciate Valentine's loyalty and make him winner of the best heterosexual life mate award. AK Michaels has overall great characters.

This is a very short novel and I wanted more so I will definitely be picking up the next installment. This novel reads like a movie. Think Charmed meets Kill Bill. It also has multiple story lines that all come together and that helps add a level of complexity. The only reason this doesn't get all five stars is because of the lack of mystery. The story is written in third person omniscient and the reader is privy to all the details withheld from the characters; in a series, I am accustomed to uncovering things as the books go on. I also wasn't too excited about Rose and Cassius' uncharacteristic behavior toward the end. Some of their actions seemed hurried and illogical and Rose lost some of her ferocity as soon as she began her big mission. However, I was hooked from the beginning because of the nonstop action and general badassery. The Black Rose Chronicles has my recommendation.

I was given a free copy of this book by the author to review.

This is an amazing book. The author has created a whole new series that will keep you begging for more. One I started the book I couldn't put it down. It kept me captivated from the first page until the last.

After an awful war, the US is in shambles. Few places have electricity. It is a struggle to find food and water. There are rogue vamps, wolves and other creatures causing mayhem. There are several who want to rule. A new vampire leader has been elected. A demon has been named head of the council. They have very different agendas.

As a young child Rose's mother was taken away. Witches were being hunter over a rumored prophecy. When he father came to, he rushed her to his friend Seth to take care of her until he could come back for her. When her father doesn't return she takes to training. By the time she is an adult she is a trained assassin referred to as The Black Rose.

She is asked to take on the hardest mission she has ever been offered. She doesn't know if she can trust the person giving her the assignment. As she only kills those who are deserving of being taken out, she isn't sure her new target is as bad as she is told.

Will she be able to take out her target?

I am looking forward to the next book to see what happens next.
I highly recommend this book to paranormal lovers.

This is the first book in a new series and boy did it kick off with a bang! Once again AK Michaels has left me gob smacked, with every book of hers that I've read so far I've been able to picture it all as if it was playing out as a movie before me and this one is no different, the detail is just incredible.

The story had me caught hook, line and sinker by the end of the first chapter, I was intrigued by not only Rose but by the whole war ravaged world! I loved how all the different species had their own unique characteristics and communities, it made them stand out more as individual species and it even made them easier to identify. It's written in the third person which helps with that movie effect that I mentioned earlier.

Rose is quite frankly brilliant... I mean what's not to love? She is a total badass!!! Cassius was by far my favourite character... I just adore him. His compassion is the thing that cemented him as the front runner for me, so not what you'd expect from a vampire!! All the characters are fully formed no matter how small their role is, Kuan is one of my favourites he is just something else and gives the book a touch of humour at times!

Overall I found this to be a gripping read that held my attention from the very first page, thank you for another great story Ava, I can't wait to see where this series takes us.

This is going to be another exciting series I just know it, for once I started reading the beginning, wow! It just grabbed me and I couldn't put it down.
The story is set in the future and the world is a mess. There's a shortage of food and water and very few have electricity, and the streets are not always safe as rogue paranormal creatures roam the night causing chaos.
A new leader has been chosen to rule, and a head of the council also has been I named.
But they are very different with different plans.

Rose is a young woman who is half wolf and half witch. As a child witches were being hunted because of a prophecy and her mother was taken away, but Rose's father was able to safely take her to his friend Seth and ask that he take care of her until he could return. As the years pass she begins training and by the time she becomes an adult she's trained to become the deadly assassin named The Black Rose.

When she is ask to take on a mission that is the most difficult she's ever had, she thinks she should check it out well first before completing it. She doesn't know much about her target, yet, or the person who gave her the job. And when she does it's a life changing choice for everyone.

This was a thrilling story. Great new characters, intriguing plot and hot, steamy sex scenes, what more can you ask for. But even warned it's a doozy of a cliffhanger.

The world is not what it used to be. All manner of supernatural creatures came out of hiding and started a war that has destroyed almost everything. Humans are definitely not at the top of the food chain anymore. Due to a mysterious prophecy the one thing all these creatures agreed on was that witches could not be left to live and were hunted to near extinction. Rose is one of the few witches left, and in order to protect herself and rid the world of the evil that had taken so much away from her she trained night and day and became The Black Rose. She is now one of the most lethal and sought after assassins in the world. But will it be enough to save her?

Absolutely fantastic start of a new series by A.K. Michaels!
I have read quite a few of her books and enjoyed them all but I think this might be my favorite one yet. She sucked me in almost immediately with Rose's story and has created a rather impressive landscape for the story to take place in. The characters are very interesting and before I had even realized it I had finished the book. It definitely has a lot of potential and looks like it is going to be an amazing series as the story moves forwards and I am eagerly anticipating the next book in this series.
If you are a lover of paranormal books this one should not be missed and in my opinion The Black Rose Chronicles: Deceit and Lies is absolutely recommended!

Wow!!! What a fantastic start to an exciting new series Ava K. Michaels. I couldn't wait to read this book and devoured it in one sitting. I just could not put my kindle down and can't wait to get my hands on book 2 :)

Set in a dystopian future. Where a inter-species war between all supernaturals, has left death and destruction in its wake. Food and all supplies are really hard to find. If that's not bad enough. Due to a prophecy foretold, the Witch's have been almost wiped out....

Rose a kick-ass hybrid (witch/werewolf) assassin, has spent her whole life hiding the fact she is part witch. Seth her mentor, has taught her everything he knows to survive. He is a full witch with super fighting skills and ex special forces....

As her reputation proceeds her. Rose is given a lot of jobs to take out the evil that plagues this new world. So when she is given a job by the new head of Council Basilius, to assassinate a vampire. She jumps at the chance of the huge payment of food and supplies....

Her target Cassius Allarde is very old, powerful, deadly and sexy vampire. He could prove to be her hardest mission yet....

Can Rose take out her target? Can she survive her mission?

This is the first foray into the dystopian genre for this amazing author and I must say that she has done an really fantastic job of it. The Black Rose is the name of an assassin, and young woman, and in a world left in turmoil after an inter species war she is practically the last of her kind, but with a bit extra mixed in as well. The story has all the usual suspects, demons, shifters, vampires, and fairies to name but a few. The story takes you behind the fortified walls of a city in the US that is run by vampires and is one of the very few places that still has power. What she finds there she just cannot believe, but cope with it she must!! A truly great start to a new series that is looking like it will be very good indeed and I cannot wait for the next bool. As usual our author has left us with an exciting cliff hanger as is her want in most of her novels, but they just leave you panting for more!!

Loved it!!! This book starts with a bang and doesn't let up. You have Rose who seems like just your average young woman trying to make it home in this messed up world that has been torn apart by war when she encounters these vampires up to no good. Needless to say all of her bragging that they should know what she was going to do to them was not made up. She is a true warrior and knows how to fight. She seems like a true hard ass until she gets home to Seth and there you can see her emotions about this man. I must admit at first I was a little tripped out with their relationship but after getting more into the story I can now understand how their relationship came to be what it was. This book made me run through so many emotions and now I am on edge for book 2. I would recommend this for everyone.

First I have to get over the way Ava ended this book!!! Yes it's a cliff-hanger, and a good one at that!! I don't like to talk about what specifically happens in a book because I feel it spoils it for people about to read the book. I like to say how the book made me feel and if I think it is good enough to recommend. Well this book put me through a lot of emotions, from being quite aroused (the erotic parts are THAT good!!)to angry, to frustrated, and I was even brought to tears!! I love a book that puts me through so much because I read to escape and to get lost in the story, and that was very easy to do with Rose!! I highly recommend this book, but I am going to warn you, you will be screaming for book 2 when you finish!! I will be waiting for book 2 very impatiently, so PLEASE hurry Ava!!!!

A k Michaels has truly excelled herself

What a fantastic start to this new series. Some books you know as soon as you start reading them that they are going to be epic, this is one of those books.

Rose is a kick ass heroine and Cassius (ancient vampire) and Seth (witch) will be your new book boyfriends, throw in a powerful Demon ( Basilius) with a hidden agenda and with a whole host of other supernaturals added to the mix, believe me when I tell you that you will not want to put this book down till you've turned the last page, (2am I finished)
As for the ending OMFG ! Edge of the seat stuff.
I cannot tell you just how awesome I think this book is except to say it's a must read and 5 stars just isn't enough.

Ava K Michaels is an exceptional author.
I wasn't sure where this series was going but I can tell you, so far I love it.
Rose is an assassin and can kill just about anything.
Cassius is an ancient Vampire who wants peace in this damaged world.
Rose is hired, for all the wrong reasons, to kill Cassius. Can she do it?
Is she, strong enough to kill demons as well?
Definitely a must read.

I always know I'm going to enjoy Ms Michaels books, and this one was sheer brilliance. In a new world where supernatural creatures live openly, danger is always lurking. Black Rose never backs away from danger, and she usually comes out on top. She knows something isn't quite right with her latest assignment though.

Five stars are never enough for Ms Michaels books. Each one deserve a minimum of ten!

I loved this book. It was an amazing dystopian paranormal book. Witches, Vampires, Wolves, Fae, and more. This end of the world story is gripping and will have you turning page after page. We follow Rose, a witch, an assassin, who finds herself caught in a web of twists and turns. This was one of those stories that won't let go of you. It's a great tale that I fully enjoyed!!

Wow, what a fantastic read!! Different from A.K.Michaels usual books as it's set in a dystopian future rather than a present day paranormal novel. I was hooked from the first chapter, completely intrigued by the kick ass Rose and I couldn't put it down. The cliffhanger at the end had me shouting out loud and I can't wait for the next in the series!!

CAPTIVATING, SEXY, AND FABULOUSLY ENTERTAINING !!!
Title: Deceit and Lies
Series: The Black Rose Chronicles
Designation: Book One of Series, NOT A STANDALONE
Author: A.K. Michaels
My Rating: FIVE SPECTACULAR STARS*****
WOW! A.K. Michaels has dazzled us with yet another spectacular series and what a sparkler it is! Deceit and Lies is the first novel in her recently revamped series, The Black Rose Chronicles, and Ava totally rocked my world - again! Please be forewarned, this release is part of an ongoing series and is NOT a standalone read. And just for the record, folks, it does include one heck of a cliffhanger, and I can hardly wait for the release of Book Two! Now we have that out of the way, let's talk some specifics. The book is exciting, unique, interesting and well crafted. It grabbed my attention right out of the gate and held my interest from the first page till the last. The dialogue is smart, well executed and flows effortlessly. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with multiple points of view, five and counting, but all are clearly defined by chapter. Most authors stick with one, maybe two if they're feeling adventurous, but three or more is a lot of work, especially if it's done well and Ava does it without missing a beat! I find that it not only adds to the depth and complexity of the story but to a greater understanding of the characters as well. And speaking of the characters, they are quite simply magnificent. I would describe them as fascinating, captivating, intriguing, well developed, and engaging. And did I say sexy? No? Well, they are sexy as sin. *swoon* Heck, even the villain is hot - and I do mean that quite literally since he is a demon, after all. But all joking aside, the characters literally explode from the page, demand your undivided attention, capture your heart, and hold you prisoner from beginning to end. Michaels skillfully combines these elements into a superbly crafted paranormal romance filled to the brim with danger, drama, adventure, suspense, intrigue, deceit, heartbreak, passion, and romance. There are dark elements and some violence, but there's also a small smattering of humor included that provides a little comic relief. So, what didn't I like about this book? Not a darn thing! I loved it!

Our story begins with Rose Marie O'Connell, a wolf/witch hybrid, living in a future dystopian world that has been devastated and ravaged by a war between the species. Luxuries and prosperity no longer exist and supernatural beings roam freely without fear. Very few places have any sort of law enforcement and crime, chaos, and destruction reign over most of the world where men can be anything from a Wolf to a Fallen Angel with every species in between - except witches. Witches have been hunted to near extinction and the only witch, other than her now-deceased mother, Rose has ever met is Seth, her protector, mentor, savior, and lover. Seth, a friend of her father, took her into his home when she was only eight and gave her shelter, guidance, safety, and love for the last twenty years. But he has also given her another gift - he has trained her to defend herself, and now she has become a legendary, hard-as-nails, deadly assassin known as 'The Black Rose', one so successful she now can name her own price for a job. Rose works mostly for The Council, a group based in Washington in what used to be the White House consisting of members of almost every species, who attempt to maintain some order. Unfortunately, with very few resources, there's little they can do other than the elimination of the occasional bad guy, which is where Rose comes into play. Rose, however, is very selective when choosing her assignments. She will only accept a contract for someone she has vetted herself and determined to be guilty of the crimes for which he has been accused. And once she accepts a job, there is no reprieve; she dispatches them to their death swiftly and without remorse. But Rose walks a very fine line between life and death. She is half witch which she must keep concealed at all times. If her secret were ever to be revealed, she would be in danger of being the one hunted - by the Witch Hunters, the same group who murdered her Mother and the reason she can have no contact with her father, Wolf-Shifter Brendan O'Connell. Rose lives a lonely existence with Seth being the only man she trusts and loves. But it's never enough to fill the emptiness inside her heart and soul. She always feels desperate to find something or someone else - a release from her self imposed prison of control. But little does Rose know that fate has much in store for 'The Black Rose'. She has a destiny to fulfill; the future of humanity and the peace of the world may very well rest on her small shoulders. Unfortunately for Rose, there are forces in play that seek to stop and destroy her because of a misinterpreted prophecy. There are two other men involved in Rose's life and future. The first is Vampire Cassius Allarde, the newly elected High Duke and leader of the Vampires, who wishes to restore peace, order, and prosperity to not only the Vampire race but also to every species across the world as well. The second is the Demon Basilius who is Head of the Council. His only goals are power and prosperity for himself and ensuring his position as leader of the world. Unfortunately, in order for Basilius to accomplish his objective, he must destroy the one man standing in his way, Cassius Allarde. And this is where Rose enters the life of these two powerful adversaries. Basilius contracts Rose to kill Cassius. But he's a good guy, right? At least, everything Rose turns up in her investigation of Cassius Allarde indicates he is. Nonetheless, Basilius wants him dead, but he can't afford to do it himself and certainly not under the purview of The Council. Basilius lies to Rose about Cassius' true intentions and persuades her to accept the job, but Basilius never anticipated Rose's determination to learn the truth and the unfortunate unfolding of certain events, allowing Rose to not only meet her handsome target but also get to know him - intimately. Oh my! Now three men desire Rose but all for different reasons. Two men care deeply for Rose, one desiring her heart, love, and acceptance with another desiring her love, happiness, and safety, but a third desires only her body, skill, services, and unquestioned loyalty. But whom will she choose and how will her decision affect the future? No spoilers from me but I will say this...Beautiful, deadly Wolf/Witch hybrid assassin-check! Handsome, sexy Vampire-check! Handsome male Witch protector and savior-check! Sadistic, maniacal Demon-check! Vampires, Demons, Wolves, Witches, Fairies, Witch Hunters, and a Chinese God-check! Danger, death, drama, destruction, suspense, intrigue, adventure, a ravaged dystopian world, immoral depraved villains, and evil machinations galore-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, explosive chemistry, heartbreaking angst, a light sprinkle of BDSM, a large helping of romance, and some steamy dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Whew! What a mouthful! Captivating, compelling sexy and most definitely entertaining! Oh my goodness! I can hardly wait for Book Two!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review. I am a member of the review team at the paranormal bookshelf.

Book #1 of the Black Rose Chronicles

Rose is an assassin, one of the best around. But she has massive control issues. Basilius is a demon and the head of The Council. Cassius is a vampire and the recently elected ruler of the Vampires. These three people are the centre of this story. Basilius hires Rose to assassinate Cassius. Cassius is one of the oldest vampires around and wants to restore peace amongst all species. Basileus is determined to be the one and only ruler with his demons the top of the food chain. Rose is the best assassin around but she only takes jobs she deems are necessary, the targets beyond all evil.

This is the first book in an amazingly different series. It's set in a world that has gone to hell. Witches have been persecuted over a rumour to near extinction. And the world is little more than a kill or be killed situation. You have to be tough to live in this world and Rose is one of the toughest. She is often overlooked because she is a female and she uses that to her advantage. Cassius is one of the oldest vampires alive and he is so different to many of the rumours being spread about him. There is a lot of intrigue and rumour in this book. Beware of the cliffhanger ending though.

Lies and deceit is the perfect name for this book, as these are in abundance and only a few are rectified by the end. A definite must read for those immersed in the paranormal book world, it's different and will swallow readers whole from the first word. Ava Michaels has created another masterpiece in this new series. The characters are so well written you can't help but be invested in their lives and hoping against hope and the evil in the world created that they can succeed.

Never has a female lead character been such a pure badass! A K Micheals is an exceptional supernatural, romance and thriller writer with an infinite imagination and she has proved this yet again in her new novel/series: The Black Rose Chronicles: Deceit and Lies.

Rose or The Black Rose as she is known to those who get on the wrong side of her blade, is a young woman who has grown up in a new world, a world where the supernatural roam free and out in the open, where humans are no longer the dominant species or power they once we're or had. Growing up in this new dangerous world Rose was ripped away from her life by her father to protect her and taken to live with Seth for her protection, you see Rose is not like other humans in fact, she isn't human......

Witches have been hunted to extinction due to a prophesy, a prophesy that will supposedly end them all. Taking on "contracts" Rose works to help keep her and Seth in food, fuel and water. All the skills Seth has taught her has turned her in a formidable fighter who's name strikes fear into the hearts and minds of those natural and supernatural alike.

Taking on a contract from a Demon to kill a Vampire was not something Rose thought she would ever be doing but when the Demon Basilius, head of the council od rhe supernatural comes to visit claiming the head Vampire Cassius Allarde is a danger to humanity, Rose feels it's her responsibility to go in and fulfill the contract that the Demon Basilius is offering her.

What Rose doesn't expect is Cassius himself, and after meeting him and spending time with him she sees that this contract is nothing like the others and she is in trouble and that trouble has a name.... Cassius Allarde

An exceptional book and an explosive beginning to a brand new series that I am already hooked on! Cannot wait for book 2 and I hugely recommend you read The Black Rose Chronicles: Deceit and Lies you will not regret it and you will be as captivated by it as much as I was!

As much as I always enjoy a good A.K. Michaels story, I've got to say I LOVED the first story in the Black Rose Chronicles! Once I was hooked into it, I couldn't put it down. The world has imploded, the supernaturals are running amuck and killing humans. Rose, being an assassin for the Council, only agrees to take out targets that thoroughly deserve it; the despicable nasty supernaturals who prey on weaker targets. She had a good teacher in Seth, who is everything to her. The Black Rose was created and is feared. When a demon, Basilius, takes over as head of the Council, he has his own agenda and plans to use Rose to further that agenda. Sending her on a mission to rid the world of the newly appointed head vampire, Cassius, Rose agrees, but all is not what it should be, leading to a huge cliffhanger. Can't wait to read the next in the series to see how this kick-ass heroine escapes her fate. Deceit and Lies is a fluid story with a great plot and secondary characters that are a treat.

My Review
This is something very different for Ms Michaels, her first hoorah into the dystopian future and frankly...one of the best attempts at it that i've read by any author!

We're transported into a era where the supernatural is as standard as rain is in England! Everything's out in the open in plain sight. We meet a young, tough and seriously kick ass assassin called Rose, her failure rate is pretty much zero, she's assigned to kill a vampire called Cassius, she's told he is out to enslave the population...and yet everything she learns about the elusive character suggests otherwise.

Cassius isn't your stereotypical vampiric character, he was written with compassion and understanding which only adds to his appeal. He's living in a world that seems determined to destroy itself and he wants to do something to bring the human light back from the darkness.

There's a lot more to the plot line but i don't want to give too much away...Exceptionally well written as always, a fabulous read with an ending that will leave you panting for more! Highly recommend!
4 1/2 stars!

What a fantastic start to another great series by A.K. Michaels. I always get so excited when she starts a new one cause I know it's going to be awesome. I so love how she mentioned Author Eden Elsworth in there, another of my favorite authors.....

Rose Marie is a very ruthless well known assassin, "The Black Rose", but no one knows what she looks like, not even her employers. Now she is given an assignment, but she must as always do research on her target because she will only "take out" those deserving in a world that has been overrun by evil and not even water is available to bathe! What will she find in her research, will she discover things she never dreamed possible?

There is so much intrigue, mystery and hope in this riveting story.....I can't wait for the next book.

I was given this book I exchange for an honest review.

My Rating: FIVE SPECTACULAR STARS*****
A.K. Michaels has dazzled readers with yet another spectacular series and what a sparkler it is! Deceit and Lies is the first installment in her recently revamped series, The Black Rose Chronicles, and Ava totally rocked my world - again!

In a devastated new world where all kind of creature roamed, Rose Marie was forced to hide her true nature. Witches were hunted and Rose Marie’s protector did his duty training her to protect herself and eliminate the wrongdoings. A lethal weapon known as the Black Rose she was. But when her circumstances obliged her to accept a suspicious mission, new choices were offered to her also, a new destiny. An intriguing and compelling story with lot of action, suspense, mystery, strong emotions, violence and passion. From the beginning the characters intrigued me. Witches, wolves, vampires, demons and a mysterious old man in what seemed a dangerous new way of surviving. Exciting and intense descriptions and narrations that kept my attention all the time. Interesting how Rose was struggling with her emotions but was looking for answers that satisfied her inner conflicts.

Blurb

My thoughts
I need to start this review off by saying WOW! Rose is one kickass assassin.. surrounded by smoking hot men!

A.K.Michaels did not disappoint with this exciting new series, to be honest I would give more stars if I could! When I first started reading this book I could immediately tell that it had a different kind of feel to the story than previous books... this book is in a league of its own and pleasantly surprised me.
