PT Já não lia Astérix desde a minha infância. Foi um reencontro agradável.
Estes dois gauleses são, de facto, bastante divertidos, e há algo de relaxante em vê-los arrumar tropas romanas como se fossem baralhos de cartas.
Astérix é verdadeiramente intemporal — enquanto houver banda desenhada, haverá Astérix.

These two Gauls are genuinely entertaining, and there's something relaxing about watching them take down Roman troops as if they were decks of cards.
Asterix is truly timeless — as long as there are comic books, there will be Asterix.

Asterix und Obelix haben Geburtstag! Zu diesem Ehrentag haben die Dörfler nicht nur ein großes Festmahl organisiert, sondern auch noch die Mütter der beiden Krieger eingeladen. Als Geschenke bringen die beiden Damen einen goldenen Helm (für Obelix‘ Sammlung) und ein reich verziertes Schwert (für Asterix) mit. Ein römischer Legionär habe die beiden Prachtstücke in ihrem Laden zurückgelassen, erzählen sie. Was niemand weiß – die Waffen gehören eigentlich dem römischen General Pompeius, der sie gerne wieder zurückhätte.
In einem scheinbar genialen Plan schicken die Römer eine als Falbala verkleidete Schauspielerin ins gallische Dorf, um die Waffen zurückzuholen. Gute Idee, schließlich hatte Obelix schon immer eine Schwäche für die hübsche Gallierin. Und die Mütter von Asterix und Obelix sind sowieso gerade dabei, die beiden Junggesellen zu verkuppeln. Aber die neuangekommene Falbala kommt den beiden gleich seltsam vor – die soll sich lieber fernhalten von ihren Buben!

Aaaaahja, dieser Kindheitsliebling ist als Erwachsene leider nicht mehr ganz so geil. Ich glaube, wie alle kleinen blonden Mädchen war ich früher einfach fasziniert von Falbala und mochte den Band deshalb sehr gerne.
Beim Reread fällt ist mir Folgendes aufgefallen:
- Warum haben Asterix und Obelix plötzlich am gleichen Tag Geburtstag? Es gibt doch irgendeinen anderen Band, wo nur Obelix Geburtstag hat, oder? Kann es sein, dass der Herr Uderzo sich am Ende in seinem eigenen Universum nicht mehr ausgekannt hat?
- Mama Asterix und Mama Obelix sind leider ziemlich sexistisch. Ja, die Buben sollen heiraten, aber das vor allem, damit sich die werte Ehefrau dann um die gesunde Ernährung und die Sauberkeit in der Hütte kümmern kann. Na, das liest man doch gern als Frau im 21. Jahrhundert 🙃.
- Wo kommen jetzt plötzlich die Eltern her? Wir haben 30 Bände nichts von ihnen gehört und plötzlich erfahren wir, dass beide Gallier quietschlebendige Eltern in einer Stadt haben, die sie selbst in vorigen Bänden schon besucht haben?
Versteht mich nicht falsch, ich liebe Backgroundstories von Charakteren und freue mich darüber, dass wir die Eltern kennenlernen, aber irgendwie ist es auch seltsam, dass die plötzlich so aus dem Nichts auftauchen.
- Mir gefällt es leider immer nicht so, wenn Männer eine schöne Frau sehen und infolgedessen dann vollkommen den Verstand verlieren und für nichts mehr verantwortlich gemacht werden wollen.
Die Geschichte selber habe ich immer noch einigermaßen gerne gelesen, ist halt bisschen trashy, aber auch recht unterhaltsam. 3 🌟 von mir.
(In meinen Augen ist dies übrigens der letzte richtige Asterix-Band. Der Kurzgeschichtenband ist halt ein Kurzgeschichtenband und keine vollständige Story, Gallien in Gefahr war so scheisse, dass ich seine Existenz leugne und alles danach wurde ja eh nicht mehr von den ursprünglichen Autoren verfasst).

It's a very happy birthday to Asterix & Obelisk, our dynamic duo have apparently been joined at the hip, being born on the same day. The whole village have come together to celebrate this joyous. (Not that the Gauls need any special reason to hold a banquet).
We have some surprise guests for the birthday boys. Asterix's mother Sarsaparilla & Obelix's mother Vanilla have come to visit them. With their fathers Astronomix & Obeliscoidix on the way. They've come bearing gifts. A jeweled golden roman sword for Asterix & a Gold gelded roman helmet for Obelix.
Alas, amidst all celebrities, trouble brews. The presents that their mothers brought for them, belong to the Roman General Pompeii who had arrived to raise an army to usurp Caesar. Hence Pompeii and his forces are scrambling to find the very distinctive items, before its presence alert Caesar to their machinations. Learning where the items are presently, they lock up the fathers, and arrange for an actress to play the role of Panacea, seduce the boys and steal the items back.
All while the mothers are hell bent of having their boys meet woman of marriable age, with the prospect of marriage. Something which the duo seem to vehemently be against.

The story this time around, introduces some new characters, and brings back the patented Roman absurdity and hilarity. It is straightforward, and still lacking that secret sauce, that biting satire of Goscinny.
But a good read, giving it a tentative 4 out of 5, while being seriously miffed that my man Cacophanix barely gets to do anything nowadays.

El legado de los romanos (y un padre)
Ya lo sabemos, un padre es una máquina de transferir gustos y creencias a sus hijos, en el mejor de los casos, sin suerte.
Después de insistir con los Beatles, ahora llegó el turno de Asterix. A mi #Hijode5 empecé a leerle los comics. No sé bien para qué, tal vez para compartir algún código. Luego tocará Mafalda y más tarde, quien sabe, tal vez lo pierda en el desarrollo del gusto.
En fin, que anoche empezamos por La Traviata. Traté de sacarle esa idea tan extendida e inevitable entre los productos para niños de buenos y malos. "Sí, acá los romanos son malos, pero esto porque lo escribieron los franceses" le dije en algún momento.
Leído desde mis 43 años, me pareció un poco pavo, pero al menos me parece que sirve para que empiece a interesarse en la historia que se mete por los resquicios de las viñetas.
Las cinco estrellitas se las puso el niño que renació en mí mientras se lo leía. Ya veremos qué le queda a mi niño de toda esta sopa que le estoy sirviendo.

On continue la descente aux enfers...
C'est pas bon, pas bon du tout. l'apparition des parents d' Astérix et Obélix, sortis d'on ne sait où puisqu'on ne nous en a jamais parlé avant (en même temps on s'en foutait non ?), ne suffit pas, loin s'en faut, à sauver cet album. On a l'impression qu'Uderzo, comme dans les films commerciaux ou les séries américaines, révèle des éléments de la vie de ses héros pour maintenir en vie la série...
Je sais pas si ça marche, mais le simple fait qu'on en soit là révèle combien on approche de l'épuisement du filon...

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It's my fourth reading of Asterix. Some finely placed humor and an introduction to the parents of Asterix and Obelix.

My very first Astérix comic!
I would have prefered that it was the 1st issue because this one was not made by both of the original creators. However it was everything that I expected. I look forward to reading more of Astérix.

"Asterix i Latraviata" skupia się wokół urodzin Asterixa oraz Obelixa i przyjazdu ich rodziców do wioski. Obie matki przyjechały sprawnie, ale pojawiają się pewne trudności z przyjazdem ojców. Pojawi się jeszcze w tym całym zamieszaniu niejaka Latraviata, ale jaka jest jej rola to trzeba samemu sprawdzić.
Ocena nie może być inna. W końcu to Asterix i Obelix.

One of the better Uderzo-only volumes but still woefully short of Goscinny standards. I am trying to analyse why the earlier volumes are so much better and have identified 4 factors (someone doing a PhD in Bande Dessine might like to do the detailed research!)
1- PLOTS - the Goscinny plots are stronger and often feature more potent threats to the village which require Asterix’ cunning rather than a deus-ex-machina dose of magic potion (eg Asterix in Britain, Soothsayer, Asterix the Gaul, Olympic Games) The stronger plots are those where the Romans use subtler methods rather than brute force and come closest to defeating the Gauls (Roman Agent, Soothsayer, Obelix and Co, Mansions of the Gods). In many of the adventures involving travel the reason for the quests are solid (Cleopatra, Spain, Britain, Chieftain’s Shield, Switzerland, Goths, Gladiator) whereas in the weaker travel adventures the reasons for setting off are rather contrived (Great Crossing, Belgium, Corsica, Magic Carpet, Chariot Race, Odyssey)
2 - ROMANS - Relating to the first point, the central joke and appeal of the series is that a small village of Gauls resist the mighty power of Rome. Consequently the volumes are at their funniest when it is the Romans getting the beatings. As the series goes on we run short of story lines and methods by which the Romans can try to defeat the Gauls and so they become more peripheral (Great Crossing, Falling Sky, Picts). The best volumes are where the Romans are front and centre as the fall guys and the series touches the heights where this is most the case (Britain, Roman Agent, Big Fight and, of course, the sublime Legionary -voted best Asterix on Goodreads for a reason!)
3 - PUNS - These are the great strength of Asterix but you can over do it. Goscinny volumes are noted for both the cleverness and the controlled output. The later volumes overdo it and the puns are not as witty but laboured to the point of tedium sometimes with more than one in a single panel (eg Belgium and, interestingly Chieftain’s Shield which, although earlier in the canon, could not be translated into English for many years because of the difficulties of translating regional French accents)
4 - RUNNING GAGS - these add depth and humour to the narratives but, unless I am mistaken, seem to fizzle out as the series progresses. Goscinny piles on the humour by making them pop up in unexpected places. Off the top of my head, these are the ones I remember, ALL in Goscinny editions and even then, not including jokes derived from the gentle ribbing of National characteristics: Asterix the Gaul - Tullis Octopus is promised a trip to the circus, Sickle - the same patrol repeatedly arrests Asterix, Goths - the sentry reporting the wrong invaders and mistaken identities, Gladiator - parsley in the ears and Obelix “knocking” on doors, Cleopatra - the nose! Big Fight - the owl and colourful potions, Legionary - falling in love continual repetition of the unit designation and “old hairy” insults, Chieftains Shield - Dogmatix as an afterthought, Normans - reporting in triplicate, Switzerland - orgy ingredients, being in a hole and Obelix never sees the country, Roman Agent - the Senator references, green speech bubbles and psychological warfare, Spain - holding breath, Laurel Wreath - Rome (or Lutetia?) as the greatest city in the universe and never having a night’s sleep. Add the pirates and fish fights to all that cleverness!
I notice that The overall rating on goodreads falls below 4 after Belgium (the last Goscinny volume) and never recovers. Also, a lot of reviews here are simply cut and pasted repeatedly across all volumes regardless of their quality, often giving 4 or 5 stars to the whole series. Consequently the later volumes are getting 4 and 5 star reviews, undeservedly. Take these reviews out of the calculation and I suspect the later Uderzo-only and Conrad-Ferri volumes would score even lower. Some reviewers can’t even be bothered to think for themselves but simply cut and paste the Wikipedia plot summaries. This is very annoying!!!!

L’album « Astérix et Latraviata » raconte les péripéties des habitants du célèbre village gaulois lorsque les mères d’Astérix et d’Obélix débarquent pour fêter l’anniversaire de leurs fistons et leur offrent un glaive richement décoré et un casque romain dérobés à Pompé, l’ennemi de César qui veut absolument et discrètement récupérer ses biens afin de ne pas trahir sa présence en territoire romain.
Dans cet album, je n’ai pas retrouvé les répliques d’Astérix et d’Obélix qui me font tant rigoler. Par contre, j’y ai rencontré les parents de mes deux Gaulois préférés qui m’ont fait sourire avec les petits surnoms qu’ils donnent à leurs rejetons.
Ce ne sera pas mon album préféré.

Uno de los volúmenes llevados a cabo por Uderzo solo. Gráficamente, impecable, como siempre; es la historia lo que hace un poco de agua. Además, es bastante reciente (de 2001), y creo que el bueno de Albert debió de estar un poco grande y cansado.
Parte del puntaje se debe a la óptima edición de Salvat, con tapas duras, gran calidad de impresión, la traducción española de siempre y un sorprendente tramo final del libro con notas y bocetos. Excepto por los libros del galo que ya tengo, seguiré la colección.

Je ne me rappelle pas beaucoup de celui-ci, à part qu'il était different des autres et moi intéressant pour une enfant qui recherchait de l'aventure et du danger avec les romains. Il me semble qu'il y avait quelques "nouveaux" livres d'Astérix, sortis bien après les premiers, qui avaient une touché un peu trop moderne, et ils étaient nettement moins bons. Je ne me souviens pas avoir déjà possédé celui-ci, j'ai dû l'avoir emprunté à la bibliothèque il y a longtemps!

A part un air de déjà vu (positif) avec les romains qui se tapent les uns sur les autres, le reste de cet album n'est franchement pas une réussite ! Le scénario est assez pauvre et tiré par les cheveux et certains personnages sont ratés (les mamans de nos héros par exemple)...et encore, on ne parlera pas de ce dauphin sauveur qui frole le ridicule !

AWESOME!!! There is nothing that comes close to Asterix - I have the whole series, both on e-books and hard-copy and they are some of most treasured possessions. I grew up with them and they are simply the best!

Cant say much because to be honest the basis of the books are all the same but usually quite enjoyable anyhow. Thought the actress got away with it more than she should have.

Hacía mucho que no leí de Astérix y Obélix. Para quienes no los conocen, sus historias se sitúan en la antigua Galia, y se encuentran rodeados por los romanos para su gran pesar.
En este capítulo, es el cumpleaños de Astérix y Obélix y en la aldea les hacen una fiesta sorpresa, invitando también a sus familias, que hasta el momento sólo han llegado sus madres. Ellas les regalan un casco y una espada, que los padres de estos dos jóvenes obtuvieron en el mercado. Lo que no saben es que pertenecían a Pompeyo y este buscará todos los medios para recuperarlos, apresando en primer lugar a los papás de ambos.
Me gustan estas historias porque tiene muchas referencias históricas y parodias al respecto, así como sucede con los nombres de algunos de los personajes elegidos.
Al final hay varias páginas donde se aportan datos de interés referidos al carácter de los protagonistas, y también acerca del contexto histórico.

Historia un poco cutre, pero que se lee de maravilla gracias al buen ritmo que tiene. Las madres de Astérix y Obélix visitan a sus hijos e intentan que se busquen una mujer con la que casarse. Mientras tanto, una doble de Falbalá llega a la aldea con intenciones ocultas. Divertido.
