Messed Up and Magic

Rate this book
Friday nights are about fish and chips, not finding sexy boys on your doorstep, particularly when the boy in question seems so lost.

Jack's been Amy's customer for years so they're not exactly strangers, but he's stunned when he finds himself homeless and she offers him a place to stay.

Amy's desperate for change. Fed up with fulfilling her father's expectations, she’s struggling to see a way out without letting him down. Suddenly faced with more issues than she can cope with, Amy turns to Jack for comfort. But as they get closer, and Jack's troubles get deeper, he’s reluctant to make promises he can’t keep.

One lonely boy, trying to do the right thing.
One girl used to pushing her dreams aside.
Two hearts struggling with life and love.
Things are about to get all kinds of MESSED UP and MAGIC.

Didn't like it. Both h/H had some toxic people around them and I hated that not only did they not get away from them, each of them seem to actively encourage the other to keep those persons in their lives, even when it seemed unhealthy.

Keeping friends and family around is not always good or what a good psychiatrist would encourage , especially if they are dysfunctional or toxic - and I dislike it when authors espouse that family/friends-are-always-good-for-you-irrespective-of-the-circumstance message. Thats just ignorant BS.

This was a sweet story about two people trying to please everyone while no one was trying to please them. Jack had been kicked out of his house and with nowhere to go it is Amy that takes him in. Jack and Amy grow closer and love begins to bloom but there are so many obstacles in their way I often wondered if they were going to make it. I liked this story a lot. There was a slow build to the story that I appreciated and a lot of twists that kept it interesting. I hope to read more from this author.

Jack has been going to same fish and chip shop for years and served by Amy neither talking to each other except when Jack is ordering his food and Amy is taking his order.

One cold night Amy is locking up when she notices Jack curled up in a door way with what looks like all his belongings. The reason Jack is out there is that once again he's had a fight with his alcoholic mum's latest boyfriend and been thrown out.

Amy offers Jack a settee for the night. Right from this point you are hoping that Amy and Jack get together.

Whilst Jack is having problems at home he realises that Amy is also under pressure from her dad and then Amy is put into a couple of situations where she finds herself finding comfort in Jack.

This is a lovely read and you feel both Jack and Amy's life's struggling not only with life but love.

This is the first book I have read from Holly Stone and won't be the last

Gifted a copy during a contest on Facebook:

From the synopsis I was expecting the book to be intriguing and capture my attention. What I found was a book that is slow but detailed. It is about finding themselves all while dealing with their individual families. It was more about the growing up of Amy and Jack more than it is about them as a couple. To me it was an alright book for what it is. We each like different things in a book and I have to commend the author when it comes to making it authentic on wording for UK but as for romance or suspense this story lacks what I was looking for. This book will not be the last I read of the author since I do like how she develops the characters and her writing capabilities.

If someone would ask what my most memorable moment in the book it is when the saying Messed up and Magic was brought into the book.

This is the first book I have read of Holly Stone. The book was a little slow with lots of detail. In the story we follow Jack & Amy. We watch them find themselves as they are dealing with their families. We watch Amy and Jack grow as individuals and as a couple. I would have loved to see more of them growing as a couple, I felt as it was missing something. I loved when the author added Messed up and magic in the story. Would I read another of her books? The answer is yes. I love the development of the characters and all the details

This is the first book Iv'e read by this author, who lives across the pond. I liked it and like her style of writing and wisdom. This book is about Jack and Amy, both hard working, and under appreciated by their families. Kind of Cinderella meets Cinderfella. Neither one is happy and living the life they want. When Jack gets kicked out of his house it's Amy who brings him home with her. So begins their relationship and growing process. A story of love and learning.

Messed Up and Magic is a really good book by Holly Stone. I think Amy is someone we can all relate to on some level, pushing what we want aside for what others want. Throughout the whole story I kept rooting for Jack and Amy to find what they needed to make them happy. This is the first book I have read by Holly Stone, but it will not be the last.

I had a hard time feeling a connection with the characters but enjoyed the storyline and how everything kinda came full circle. At times I could follow along easily and at other times I felt scattered, but overall I liked the book. *ARC received via author in exchange for an honest review.
