A Matter of Time Story

After years of domestic partnership, Jory Harcourt and Sam Kage are finally going to make it official in their home state of Illinois. It’s been a long and rocky road, and nothing—not disasters at work, not the weather, not a possible stalker, not even getting beat up and having to attend the ceremony looking like he just got mugged—will make Jory wait one more day to make an honest man of the love of his life.

Should be a piece of cake, right?

This was okay, but it was kind of bland. Nothing really happened and we sort of just sped through the whole thing. It had no stand-out moments, although I wouldn’t say it was really boring either. It was just okay.

ALL that matters is that it's Jory & Sam...and they're THEM...and it's MORE of THEM. And it's EVERYTHING.

I loved it.

I loved appearnaces by Duncan and Aaron and Miro and Ian and Aja and Dane and the kids and the folks and everyone was as true to their character-selves as they were throughout all the books before this. *breathe*

It was a TOTAL TREAT for fans of the series.

I repeat...EVERYTHING.

This was adorable. And ridiculous. And awesome. And FREE . And that's all I'm going to tell you about it.

C'mon people, it's really not long enough to describe without spoilers and I don't want to be that asshole. I want to be the asshole that says I HAVE AN ARC.

(Of course, I was off visiting friends a week ago when I got the ARC so I couldn't read it immediately and then I forgot I even had it until this morning so really I'm the asshole who has an ARC as well as the idiot who forgot she had a new MARY CALMES ARC just SITTING on her KINDLE and yes, all this yelling is necessary. WTF, Rosa?!)

But I will say it has Sam growling "Goddammit, Jory!" and Jory blinking innocently and saying "How is this my fault?" and both Duncan and Aaron (from Parting Shot) squinting at him suspiciously. And I'm sure you'll all be relieved to know that Jory still enjoys being violently pounded by his man as his channel spasms. And Sam still likes to look deep into Jory's eyes and say he loves his baby and I just want to upchuck and giggle with joy at the same time because, as stated above, it's ridiculous and awesome and adorable.

And I love it so much.

Re-read 2nd May 2019

Re-read 11th September 2018.

Fabulous end to this fabulous series. I’ve grown to love not only Sam and Jory but also their assorted friends and family.
This was the perfect way to end their story (is it the end? I’m always open for more) Jory is still getting a trouble magnet and they both still absolutely adore each other.
I just can’t get enough of these guys.

Jory and Sam are getting married (again)!

We have lots of people trying to kill Jory, and Sam coming to the rescue.

It was awesome.

OMG this was "quintessential" Jory and Sam and I got so much glee out of this. It's absurd and over the top, but hilarious because every single character is just.... well if you've gotten this far in the series, then you know exactly what I mean.

Even after all these years some things haven't changed. Jory still gets himself into one ridiculous situation after the other. Sam has not taken down his alpha possessiveness one notch. Their friends and family are the best to have around and it was great to see all of them in full form!

Very romantic and sexy and hot! A perfect indulgence in so much crazy fun!

Such a sweet wedding day follow-up to Sam and Jory. Honestly, even though things have bugged the shit out me about this series, and I still keep my knives handy in case I need to use them on Sam, I have truly enjoyed this series. I can see myself rereading it in the future...well, when I need to rage.

A nice sweet, short and funny ending to Jory and Sams story. I'll sure as hell miss them, but thank god we still have Ian and Miro's second book coming out soon. Maybe we'll still get some glimpes about Jory and Sam :)

Good wrap up story for Jory and Sam. Deep thought-filled characters, interesting tale, and hot M/M romance make this worthwhile. I won't go into as much detail as others, but I really enjoyed this short story. I like Mary Calmes writing.
* The characters are what make it amazing. True love, twists and turns, great interactions, and acceptance.
ENJOY !!!

The perfect little nugget with a "blink and you miss it" view of everyone important (inluding all side couples) from the Matter of Time world. I was very happy for a glimpse of my favorite couple Jory and Sam. They will always be my first love.

Merged review:

I absolutely loved seeing some of my favorite couples in one book. I needed the happiness that, at times, only Mary can provide.

I needed to REALLY suspend my disbelief about Lily Beck. Because, really, it's been over 15 years, and that's a long time to hold a grudge.

Other than that, this is classic Sam and Jory. And we get to see Aaron and Duncan, and Dane too.

After being together for almost 20 years, Jory mentions almost daily sex. WOW! Go Sam and Jory. Kudos! And we get the proof too. Mary writes those scenes so well!

Caution - don't read if you haven't dived into Matter of Time world.

5 Good old memory - flash back

I fell head over heels in love with Jory and Sam and these short reads just make you miss them a little less. It's good to know there lives continue even though the books concluded. It makes them feel real, you know?

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Might contains spoilers*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Jory Harcourt (40?) and Samuel “Sam” Thomas Kage (50/51?) are back with their last book (I think) and we now finally get a conclusion/real ending of the couple. The kids are now 11 (Kola) and 9 (Hannah), becoming more and more like their parents, Daddy (Sam) and Pa (Jory). This is a fast forward ending for the couple where they get re-married, though not without some kinds of trouble that seems to be following Jory around: someone hired a hitman to kill him, but Jory's got Sam, so....
“You’re it,” he whispered. “My love. You have my heart.”

We got our first... look/hearing of Miro and Ian from the Marshals series, as I have been waiting for it, and I was disappointed. I had hoped that we would've seen Sam becoming their boss, or Miro and Ian coming to work for Sam (I don't remember if we ever get to know that), but what to expect when Mary Calmes seems to be skipping the important stuff throughout the whole series. Overall, it was a nice conclusion for Jory and Sam's journey. They have been through a lot and now they are living their happily ever after.
“Sam was going to say something, but I touched his arm and put a finger to my lips. He rolled his eyes as I put my hands together in the sign of prayer. I was dying to hear their clearly romantic banter. They were adorable.
“Just tell me what the hell you want me to say to our boss,” Doyle said crankily.
“Gimme the phone,” Jones directed, and I could hear the warmth and amusement in his tone clear as day. It was quite obvious that Marshal Jones had it bad for Marshal Doyle.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/M)
Series: - Series, Book Eight
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Sam Kage.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Unsure.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.

Deleted original review because it was embarrassing. 😏

I was introduced to Mary Calmes because of this book. It was a free read on Amazon, and I guess still is. My first read all those years ago was great. I hadn't been jaded by MCs writing style yet haha. Now, upon re-reading the series, my pleasure has dimmed. This series (and MCs style in general) is very much over the top, improbable, and borderline abusive at times. My taste has changed and this type of story no longer appeals to me. I am reducing my rating to 3 stars because now that I am older and wiser, I see the flaws. If I were to delete everything I didn't like, this of course would be 5 stars, and a book of 5 pages. 😁 For those who have not read MC before, give her a go. I read this story never having read the preceding books and followed along just fine. It's only now that I have read books of different talent that I see how very rigid to type MC stories are.

Nope. Not crying at Sam and Jory getting married... again.

“I don’t remember you being this romantic when we were married the first time.”

“That’s ’cause before, it was about beginnings and hope, but now it’s just us and the kids and life, right? It’s forever.”

This was everything with everyone and it was wonderful and honestly it will never be enough no matter how much I get of Sam and Jory and this crazy, insane, sexy and hopelessly romantic world they live in.

Their song? Yeah, that did me in and the tears flowed. I have no shame admitting that. This was so good and talk about love from an author to her readers, it was free. I am just... Le sigh.

Man, I love these guys, all of Mary’s guys, but Sam and Jory? Yeah… *sigh*

It was so good to be back in Jory’s head for this little peek into the chaotic perfection that is their lives, and, of course, their wedding. The blurb killed me…Should be a piece of cake, right? Ha! We’ve all met the hot mess that is Jory Harcourt. Smooth sailing isn’t usually on the menu, but the adventure is unforgettable.

Mary Calmes has gifted us with a fabulous little wedding novella for our heroes. A Piece of Cake takes us from the wedding planning, through to the ceremony, with no shortage of shenanigans along the way. Jory, as usual, finds himself in the midst of some drama, and it takes Sam and a parade of our favorite characters from the series to get things sorted out. I loved all of the cameos in the story – Duncan and Aaron, Dane and Aja, etc. – but, my favorite was the hilarious little scene with Miro and Ian. I want the next Marshals book, like, now!

I was cracking up on page one:

“We’re still getting married, right?”

Swooning at the end:

“’You’re it,’ he whispered. ‘My love. You have my heart.’”

And, loved every page in between.

Now, I want to go back and start their story all over again!

OH MY GOD!!!!

I can't. Just...I can't. This entire series is beyond phenomenal and reading this book was the holy grail of miracles. Duncan & Aaron, Dana & Aja, Jory & Sam (AND THEIR KIDS). Funny, sarcastic, and overall the best thing since sliced bread xD

My only complaint was Chilly's absence. Le sigh.

Darn it .... despite my overall extreme dislike of Jory and just about everything Jory-related .... I liked this. Jory and Sam get married in their backyard, there is the requisite hit man, a tussle resulting in an arrest, cute kids, a hot sex scene ... everything except the Disney fairies and birds gently fluttering as they hold aloft a canopy of roses over Jory's head. Bah humbug - it was cute and touching. There. Are you happy?
