When a skin-changer looking for passage to Lake Ponchartrain collapses at her feet, Willa Arch finds herself drawn into a conflict between the iron-willed Queen Elsbett of Brittania and Queen of the Dead, Marie Laveau. But survival means coming face to face with Willa's own deadly legacy of fur and teeth.
A.G. Carpenter writes fiction of (and for) all sorts. She's had Twitter fiction published at One Forty Fiction and Trapeze Magazine. Her short stories have appeared in Daily Science Fiction, Goldfish Grimm's Spicy Fiction Sushi, Abyss & Apex, and Stupefying Stories Showcase. Individual novelettes are available as eBooks through most electronic vendors.
She loves movies where things explode, strong tea with milk and sugar, and cool, gray days. Her favorite color is black.
Brilliant! But, annoyingly brief. A.G. Carpenter left me wishing there was more within minutes starting the book, and by the end... oh boy was I frustrated! The good kind of frustration, mind you, of a book well done that you didn't want to end, at least, not when it did. I'm not bashing the ending, either, it's just the world and the characters sucked me in so deep I had to claw my way out when it was over. I highly recommend this story.
