*Edit 2020 All parts of the Imperfect Chaos serial have been edited with tons of new content and combined into one full length novel. Imperfect Chaos is available now.
The only thing Nixon Bennett ever excelled at is fighting. No one ever understood him, especially his parents and sister.
Then Brooklyn Davis walks into his gym, and his world shifts.
Brooklyn is just like him in so many ways, and yet so fragile in others.
Can she fix this broken boy even though she's broken herself?
Wow!!! That ending was unexpected!!! It left my mouth hanging open!!! Wow!!! I knew that something was really worng, but i wasn't imagining something like that!!! The thing is that novel was so small and it wasn't enough... I needed more, but i'm pretty sure that my countless questions will be answered in the next book!!! Right??? I could name that book like an introduction to what will have to deal after and i think that it has so many potentials!!! I'm looking forward for the next part!!!
I have to tell you the truth... In the first two chapters, i almost hated Viper. He was arrogant, cocky... He had a big impression about himself and he was using women. He was a pig!!! He thought that woman was just a body with a hole!!! What a jerk!!! And, yes, i realize very soon that he had big issues with his family and he was acting childish and with malice toward her sister... and i didn't like this attitude!!! But as i was reading, i started to change my opinion for him, even though i still don't know the reasons about all this malice.
Oh!!! Did i tell you that he is an MMA fighter and in his free time he was working as a personal trainer??? Yep!!! And now after all the above, in his messed up life came Brooklyn to mess it more!!! Oh!!! And his anger and frustration was the main reason for fighting or fucking!!! Hahahaha...
Their first meeting was a little bit awkard. She caught him to use a woman's hole for realise in the gym's parking lot and he had the nerve to wink her... while he was in action!!! The next day, he realized that she was his new client!!! Just great!!! But she got clear with him that she will never be another hole for him to use... I think that declaration intrigue him and she stuck on his mind badly!!! And from that moment everything went south!!!
Well, we didn't find out much about Brooklyn, but it was so obvious that this girl was having serious problems and at the end we manage to take a glimpse about those problems... And not only that, but she also seemed to have self-esteem problems and she didn't trust easily other people... What the fuck happened to her???
I really wondering what will be the end about those two!!! I like them and i want to learn everything about them and their story!!!

'Viper' is a clichéd, hypocritical, pathetic dickhead manwhore who has NO redeeming qualities what-so-ever and I wish he would turn into a male honey bee just so his testicles would explode after sex
Mine by Marie York Series: Imperfect Chaos (book one) Connected Series: Perfect Chaos Stars: 2.75-3
I am a little torn over this book. In the end, I want to know what happens next but that is mostly due to wanting to know the whole story rather than feeling connected to the characters or the story itself.
We start off with Nixon Bennett, personal trainer and MMA style fighter and all around asshole type male. There are sure signs that he is damaged goods and that there is something in his past that has shaped him in this way. Although this is the type of hero I love, with Nixon he just lacked any real redeeming qualities that made me look past his behavior. It was like a jerk book boyfriend on steroids.
For Brooklyn, there is one helluva story there. The early hints were there, but the meat of her story hit at the very end with a pretty big cliffhanger.
So for me in the end, I am going to read the next one and probably will pick up the Perfect Chaos series because I can sense that there is an experience to be had when reading these as a whole vs. as in installments. I’ve become picky with novellas after being duped in the past by never ending cycles of stories, so I really need to have some closure with each installment. I need mini stories within each installment and one bigger picture type event to tie it all together. For me, this lacked that mini story part but it did capture my attention enough to want to see it all play out.
I have a feeling that once I get further into the story, looking back, my opinion on this first book will probably change and I’m looking forward to it!
There was really no point to this one. Hero is a manwhore. The hero was not likable by the way he treated other people.
The hero is a trainer and he fights. I think he is an MMA, but not sure. He named his car Tanya. he talks about the car as if she was a person. Sometimes, I thought Tanya was an actual woman. The heroine comes in to train. She wears baggy clothes. She has some history. You find out something about her in the end, but not much. The hero begins to train her. He has sex with anything that moves even after he meets the heroine.
The heroine first sees the hero having sex with a girl in the back alley. It was just all blah.
"A few workouts with me and she'd be on her way to being the next Kim Kardashian." (loc 107) The verbiage and behavior felt awkward and uncomfortable. The hero had no redeemable qualities. This may work for you, but the story and characters did not work for me.
What!?!? As soon as I get into the book it ends with the biggest cliff hanger. Grrrrr...
Nixon (AKA Viper) is an unbeatable cage fighter. He is all in for the sport. Nothing can hold him down. Not family, education, work, friends, or women. Honestly, he is a jackass. He does sexual things with women and then leaves them.
As he works as a personal trainer, he gets distracted when he is hired to train Brooklyn. There is just something about her that gets him worked up. Nixon actually attempts to get to know her and help her with self defense. It's clear they have some attraction, but they don't do anything sexual together.
I don't fully understand Nixon or Brooklyn... probably because it was so short. Hopefully the next book will help me get to know them better.
This one didn't blow me away. The H was a manwhore but it was so bad that I was grossed out by him. He thought nothing of taking a random woman and having sex. He even used casual sex as a way to cope with the things that were happening in his life. He was pretty disgusting. The h was ok and there are no intimacy scenes with the H and h in this book. I am on the fence about continuing the series.
Nixon Bennett is not the man you think he is. He's tough, mysterious, dangerous, a fighter. He doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, especially his family. He'll do what he wants, when he wants, how he wants. Same goes for the women he uses; they are only holes for his please anyways.
All is right with the world, well except that his attempt to tarnish his sister's reputation didn't work, but that is when everything changes. He's got a new client and she's getting under his skin and into his head, much to his dismay.
Nix and Brooklyn have a fire and ice relationship. He wants to help her because it's clear she's been hurt. She wants his help, but there is something in her past that she uses to keep Nix at arm's length. However, Nix is determined to break through her walls, but when he attempts to get ahold of her, he learns something massive that could change everything!
This first installment of the Imperfect Chaos series is, in short, electrifying. Nix is defiantly someone that I cannot wait to get to know more. He may be dangerous but I think there may be more than meets the eye. Brooklyn is hiding something and scared. She's either been hurt or still getting hurt on a daily basis, which has lead her to Nix.
This series is looking to Marie York's hottest series yet! That ending alone is killer!!

I wanted to beat the author with her own book by the time I got to the end of this one!!!
Did you ever meet a guy that was an all around jerk? There wasn’t even one thing you could say that was nice about them? That is Nixon, also known as Viper in this book. Nixon is beyond what I would call a manwhore. He not only uses woman he has no regard for their feelings, that is until Brooklyn shows up for a personal training session and knocks him off his ass.
“I almost lost a fight because you’re in there.” I jabbed my finger at my temple. “And I don’t know how to get you out.”
“I don’t pay you to be a dick.” No you don’t, but lucky for you, I throw it in for free.”
Writing a book in a male POV doesn’t always turn out so good when done by a female. Sometimes the male sounds more like a girl, but that wasn’t the case in this book. Viper was all male and a majority of the book I wanted to junk punch him. He used his clients he personal trained for sex and would just toss them to the side when done. He had basically no respect for woman.
“Today was the day that I was going to work Brooklyn to her breaking point, and I couldn’t fucking wait.”
The story was fast paced and there was a few parts I thought maybe were a little rushed but let me tell you this. I did not see that ending coming and I am still sitting her wondering what the hell is going to happen in the next book. I had a feeling there were things about Brooklyn that didn’t make sense but that was not one I saw coming. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book because there are so many questions I need answers too.
What a cliff hanger. Is it Aug 5th yet? I'm rather intrigued as to where this story is going to go. I feel like I didn't learn enough about Viper/Nixon or Brooklyn but I have a feeling I will in the next instalment. Viper is a hot Cage fighter who obviously has some rage issues. He uses his personal training position and his cage fighting to aleve his growing anger. While performing some extra curricular activities in the lane way, he eyes a brunette with come hither eyes and is immediately intrigued. Only to find out the next day his new client is the one and only Brooklyn who he saw the previous night while enjoying himself with another woman. He can't seem to get her out of his head. She seems to be quite the lamb to his Lion. The sexual tension is building between these two-even though I feel like Brooklyn has som serious issues in this department that may run very deep on the emotional scale. We were left with a cliffhanger too big to assume what might happen next. Can't wait to find out.
Cocky, self-absorbed Nixon aka "Viper", cage fighter by night and personal trainer by day is truly something else. Plenty of eye rolling was done while reading this. He has this love/hate personality.
"I didn't run after girls. They came to me".
Whatever!! But of course here comes Brooklyn, the one and only girl he wants but can't have. They both have issues, that's a given but hers is more serious. Just as the book was getting interesting, the author drop kicked me in the gut and left me hanging. Just like my review.
What?? Is this .......THE END........NO IT'S A FREAKING CLIFFHANGER........WTF!!!
Nixon was difficult to warm up to. The scene in which he's having a conversation with his mother revealed him to be spoiled, self-indulgent and without the kind of self awareness that drives both character development and plot. The author alludes to Nixon being a disappointment to his parents and less favored than his sister. But they're still sending checks for his college tuition. That's it? That's the angst?
The female character, Brooklyn, does a slow reveal by removing layers of clothing (but not thinking or emotions) and freaks out twice when touched. Again, that's it?
I think the biggest issue I had with this book was Nixon's view on women. He calls women 'sluts' and 'skanks' and 'whores' for doing less and the same as what he does. I'm not going to get all politically correct here, it's not the time or the place for it, but when my hero thinks the way he does, it takes so much enjoyment out of a book for me. Since it's a series though, and not a bad one, that issue withstanding, I'm hoping for some redemption on his part where this is concerned... we shall see though. But, I will continue the series, especially since all of them are on KU.
Mine has this girl with self-esteem issues, probably a broken heart and I think other damages. A hero who stops his whoring ways the moment his eyes lock on her, and a little bit of family drama to keep my attention. First impressions are everything right? Well Brooklyn first impression of Viper/Nixon is finding him on a parking lot sticking it to a client. Nixon can’t believe that the girl with baggy clothes and newest client is the same that saw him smashing into a girl last night. He’s used to hitting and quitting, but for some reason can’t get this woman out of his head. He spends his days thinking about her not a great think to do when he’s on the cage. And when they have like this moment she back off. He wants to get to know her and like get her out of his system but dang surprise he goes to her house and she has a husband WTF?
This all sounds great on paper and part of it was and besides it’s told by Nixon’s POV but it just didn’t completely work for me. Nixon swears too much and I don’t think men do that like every 2 seconds. Nixon is a whore man no kidding and I loved that Brooklyn called him on it, but it still drove me crazy. He kind of always doing something jerky. I don’t like jerky men. That being said, it was still an okay read. I think it has potential and I curious about what’s Brooklyn hiding. If you have some time to kill, and you like the tropes I mentioned give it a go.
When I first started reading, I wasn't sure how invested I would be with the characters and plot in Mine. I was worried after the first few chapters that it was just going to be a quick novella filled with a erotic scenes and vulgar words but not a whole lot more. Don't get me wrong - that type of story is entertaining but I like my serial series to be more. I need to truly be enticed into wanting the next installment. My mind needs to be tempted while my lady bits are tingling.
So I was more than pleasantly surprised when I kept reading Mine. The characters turned out to be alluring as well as arousing. Nixon and Brooklyn share an undeniable connection - one you want to spend more time with. It's awesome.
They both clearly carry emotional scars from their pasts and have too many secrets. I felt more than curious to know them better - by the end I was desperate for more and for them to give into their attraction to one another. These two - holy hotness!! I cannot wait to experience their passion when it is finally released!!
AND THAT ENDING - OMG!! I am hooked. I want the next installment in this series and highly suggest you find out why. Definitely start reading the Imperfect Chaos series today.

Brooklyn is walking to her car when she hears somthing, she looks up a right in front of her is a couple going at on the hood of a car, she's shocked and can't seem to look away , that when she notices she been caught starring by the male stranger having sex, he just smiles a cocky grin. Brooklyn the next day joins a gym and as she getting ready in walks the sex god from the car last night and wouldn't you know he's her personal trainer. Nixion, they have smart remarks back and forth but seem to form a type of friendship and he helps her with some one on one training and notices that somthing isn't right about her or the way he feels for her. Will he go with it or will her secrets stop him.
Brooklyn seems sweet, funny take no crap off people but at the same time fragile, timid, afraid. She hiding something painful in her life. Nixion is a sexy mma fighter who doesn't do relationships. Will these two play nice? I really enjoyed this book, can't wait for the next one.
This was a difficult book to rate. I was completely torn about how many stars to give it....let me explain.
First off the characters. Well you have the hot fighter/trainer and he was the kind of guy your mother warned you about, even if Brooklyn doesn't think so. I liked him as a character but I just think he was missing....something. I don't even know how to explain it, he was the bad boy who was rough and didnt need anyone...but I just felt he needed a little bit off the softer side, something to endear me to him more. And Brooklyn was sassy....but she was kind of an easy target. She acted strong but I found she put up with a lot from a guy she didnt know. I mean would you really put up with a guy who did what he did at the dumpsters. So the characters had many many good points...but also negatives that drove me crazy!
The upside was the story, I really enjoyed reading it even with the things that made me grind my teeth, one thing for sure is I enjoyed it enough to read the other parts!
Mine is the first book by Ms York that I have read. Let me say that I love serials and this one is a great sexy read. Viper is a MMA fighter and works at a gym. He is also sexy and gets his way with any woman he wants: that all changes when Brooklyn walks into the gym. You can tell that he likes her from the beginning and she appears to be completely uninterested in him.
This book had amazing flow; I read it in one setting. The characters are well written and easy to connect with. Brooklyn is very aloof, a little shy and I get the feeling that she has been abused or attacked in the past. Viper is a tough as nails, love them and leave them guy. He is also a dirty talker and doesn’t care what anyone thinks type of guy.
Mine does end with a pretty major cliff hanger. If you like serials and sexy MMA guys; I would recommend you one-click Mine. I cannot wait for the next installment of this serial to release; I have to know what happens next with Viper and Brooklyn.
Mine is about Nixon "Viper" who is a cage fighter and personal trainer and Brooklyn who is a quiet shy kinda girl. The meet whilst Viper was in a compromising situating with a girl in the parking lot and he thinks nothing of her until she turns up at the guy the next day booked in for a PT session.
Viper is your bad boy type who sees woman as a love em an leave them, and he definitely doesn't come across as the type to want a relationship - that is until he meets and stars working with Brooklyn. He is confused as to why he is suddenly stating to feel for her.
Brooklyn on the other hand has some sort of issues going on that we don't really know the ins and outs of as yet, some things come to light when she wants viper to help with self defence lessons and she has a mini meltdown during on such session.
Gifted from Netgalley for an honest review - 3 stars
Hhhhmmmm, I wasn't really bowled over by this book, I had read something with a similar plot line last week so perhaps another time I would have faired better with it, who knows. I couldn't get on board with Nixon whatsoever, I found him brash, childish and completely arrogant. I couldn't find anything that made him endearing to me, so no hook. Brooklyn too, there just simply wasn't enough there, the development seemed weak in the characters. I understand this is part one but it needed more to captivate me. The plot was predictable but as I've said previously that is not necessarily a bad thing if an author can make it their own and unfortunately I didn't see that so much. I didn't mind the cliff hanger as I do love a really good one but this just didn't set me alight I'm afraid. I do want to continue with this story however as some serials get better as they go, I'd like to follow it....
~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~
I started reading this book last night and in about an hour I was done! It wasn't because I quit the book, it was because I read it so fast, I didn't put it down. And when the book was over, I instantly needed more. I need to know what happens. It left me needing more Viper and Brooklyn. In a way this is like your typical MMA fighter book, but in a huge part it isn't. Yes, that is one aspect of the book but, this is just one installment of the series. I can't wait for more from this series.
Marie York has become one of my favorite authors to read. She never disappoints in her books. If you haven't read any of her work, you are missing out!
Nixon aka Viper is one hot alpha cage fighter hell bent on being the best. Undefeated and determined to keep it that way, he spends his days working as a personal trainer and his nights training. Women practically throw themselves at him and he has no problem taking what they have to offer and feels no remorse discarding them after until he meets Brooklyn. She wants to get into shape and learn how to defend herself. After an uncomfortable first meeting she agrees to let Viper train her. He becomes fascinated with her and can't get her out of his head and quickly suspects that she is hiding something. The ending is quite a surprise that leaves you wanting more. This is a well written first installment of a serial that I can't wait to read more of.
Thank you Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for my honest review!
I really enjoyed reading this book. I only wish it was longer.
The story follows Nixon 'Viper' and Brooklyn. Viper is a fighter and personal trainer, and an apparent emotionless asshole. Brooklyn is a quiet, more closed off, girl that starts going to Vipers gym looking to get in shape. But Viper wasn't expecting to actually feel something for once while working with Brooklyn.
I enjoyed reading this more than I expected to. I wish there was that it was longer however cause I was definitely left wanting more. I would recommend this read and will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next installment!
Nixon (Viper) and Brooklyn meet when she has the unfortunate luck to see him screwing one of his trainees on the hood of her car when she is leaving the gym. Nixon thinks he is God's gift to women and doesn't care where he takes them or how mad they are when he walks away. Brooklyn has been through some trauma and Nixon offers to help her learn self-defense after they get to know each other a little bit. If Nixon would think with the head on top of his shoulders, he could probably figure out what happened to Brooklyn and why she is so skittish and hot and cold with him. I have a bad feeling about how the book ended and hope that Nixon doesn't regret it.
What happens when you put two broken people together? Do they become a whole? On one side of the ring we have Nixon aka "Viper" a man that had two lose his best friend. Someone that was not good enough for his parents, and the person who hates his own sister.
On the other side we have Brooklyn, a woman who had been shamed to believe that being curvy means fat. A woman who hides behind baggy clothes. Someone that hides her true self.
When Nixon meets Brooklyn, something deeper than desire unleash. Nixon being Nixon doesn't know how to respond or act on this new feeling he yet to discover. Will these two make each other complete or will her secret keep them apart? Find out!
OMG I did not see that coming. Mine is the story of a guy who loves to fight. He always wins, and nothing gets him down. Used to being the disappointment he has nothing to lose. Until one girl changes everything. How can one girls disgust and disapproval mean so much to him?
Brooklyn has secrets. She wants to lose weight, tone up, and not feel so weak anymore. Then ending will leave you wanting more and have your mouth dropped open asking WTH? Can't wait for more.
Wow, I can not wait for the next one! Viper is at the top of his game, the only problem is that you know he will fall at some point and i am on pins and needles, because I want him to stay there. I am so hooked on this book it is insane. Brooklyn is the perfect heroine. She isn't annoying or needy but has a past you are just waiting to hear about. I would love to see how Viper makes the journey into her heart. LOVE LOVE LOVE this one!!!! ONE CLICK MUST!
Sooo, I wasn't a fan of Nix initially. He was over the top alpha. He was crude and I just couldn't picture myself being attracted to him. Now, that being said, he did grow on me. Brooklyn settled him down a little bit. I loved the fact that although she was timid, she didn't let him walk all over her. There's some mystery behind her past/current relationship which added some edge to the story as well.
Be forewarned....This is just the first book in the series and it will leave you hanging, wanting more. But that is a good thing. Marie York is very good at getting you hooked into her characters, wanting to know what happens next with them. Before I knew it, I had finished the book and was left wanting......As soon as book 2 in the series is out, I will be reading it.
