Bound and Bonded #5

No Mate of Mine

Rate this book
Bound and Bonded Book 5
(Can be read as standalone)

Everyone at the Bound and Bonded Club, and the Washington Pack believes that Roger has never wanted to have a mate because he is too busy having fun with the variety of subs the club has as members. No one knows that Roger did in fact meet his mate, ten years before. Problem was, the boy was literally that, only twelve years old, and Roger left him alone thinking his mate would be safe in his home pack until he was ready to settle down. He was wrong.

Cameron Slater didn't want to be born an Omega wolf, especially not in a homophobic pack. When he was kicked out after his first shift, he spends two years on the streets before being taken in someone calling himself Master Donoghue. Four years later and Cam was wishing for death - anything would be better than having to service his sadistic Master and his sick friends.

A rescue mission, rabid vampires with a taste for Omega blood, and an overly possessive sub are just some of the obstacles standing in the way of an HEA for these two men. Is being Fated Mates enough to withstand the storm, or will Cam be dead before he and Roger have a chance to build a life together?

Warnings - this is a gay shifter true mate story. Includes BDSM references although no actual scenes, reference to past abuse, a sweet Alpha wolf who will do anything for his mate, and a poor Omega too afraid of his own shadow half the time and who just wants acceptance.

Reread

I loved Cam he was a great character and I liked that Roger felt guilty about leaving Cam to his situation. On entertainment value this one was well done, so long as I don’t think too much about it. There just wasn’t any real reaction from Cam to what he had lived through, he just kind of got over it pretty quickly with only a couple of times that he reverted and reacted to past experiences. I just expected more reaction from him considering he had spent a number of years stuck
Overall it was still a good enough read and enjoyable enough for me

This is the second book from Lisa Oliver's Bound and Bonded series I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed getting reacquainted with the hunky Washington Pack Wolf Shifters and all their gorgeous mates, including a feisty kick ass feline and a deceivingly twinky vamp you would NOT want to mess with if you EVER threaten his nearest and dearest! *Gulp!*

The central MC's in this are wolf shifter Roger, and probably one of the sweetest, saddest little Omega subs I've ever come across; Cameron Slater, who (bless him) really pulled my heartstrings with what he'd had to endure before his late in claiming him, guilty wolf enforcer in shining armour, finally found Cam and took him back to his rightful place in the Washington Pack. He was so adorable, I loved Cam!

But if you know Lisa's books, you'll also be aware there's generally some form of intrigue and nefarious goings on in the background to sort out, before the two main guys can finally relax and enjoy their new found love and sexy times together in peace.

In this case they have to get past Cam's awful years with his cruel captor, the pain of him being rejected by his old pack for being an Omega (being gay in this shifter world is not accepted) and Rogers guilt over unknowingly leaving his gorgeous little white wolf to suffer so long, before the two of them reach that perfect moment in their partnership....

I think has been my favorite of the series so far. I really loved Cameron and felt so bad for all the things that he was forced to endure. I liked that he was strong despite everything that he went through. It was a bit unrealistic how fast he got over most of his issues, but that didn’t bother me too much. Roger on the other hand, I didn’t like quite as much. Sure, he felt guilty for being a horn dog and leaving his mate to a fate worse than death, but I thought he got off way too easy. If I was Cameron, mate bond or not I don’t know if I could have forgiven him as easily.

I liked the over all story. It was nice to see all the characters from the previous books show up. I would really love a book where Jules gets his happy ever after. All in all, a great addition to the Bound and Bonded series that I highly recommend.

Read this as a 'rejected mate' trope suggestion, and this isn't quite that. Roger wasn't so much rejecting Cam, as he was letting his mate live a little before claiming him later.

That wasn't really my issue with this though, and I read well past when my brain and heart told me enough.

If you enjoy/are looking for insta love and healing dick, this is probably a book for you.

If you don't like 'it's my mate' as a short cut to trust, you won't like this.

Big spoilers ahead.

Cam endures some heavy stuff between the time Roger sees him first, to the time Roger rescues him from a BDSM 'club'. Cam has essentially suffered most of his life. His prior pack let him starve, then he was raped and abandoned when he was 16 years old. He spends two years homeless which aren't touched on. Finally ends up with a 'Master' at a BDSM club for food, where he ends up trapped and basically tortured for six years.

But except for being confused about being treated like he deserves respect, Cam isn't really affected by his trauma. He's never enjoyed sex, never been touched intimately in a way he consented to first, sex had ALWAYS been accompanied by pain and fear. Yet he is begging for that big Alpha cock within 24 hours of being rescued. He even clearly articulates exactly what he wants and how he wants it. I can't suspend my disbelief enough to believe that.

So not a book for me.

Enjoyed the story of Roger and Cam. Though, to be honest, I really disliked Roger for the first part of the book. I thought the explanation of why he did what he did was just too lame given what occurred. However by about 25% the book redeemed itself (and Roger did too) and I enjoyed how things evolved and how healing happened. I have not read any of the other books. I was looking for an abused character story and this was right up my alley!

A wonderful mm shifter romance

Another great book in the series. Roger, one of the pack enforcers has known for several years, when visiting another pack, that he had a mate who he had scented when Cameron was only twelve years old. Roger was having nightmares that his mate was in grave danger. Cameron had presented as an omega on his first shift at 16, was beaten and banished from his pack. Roger had delayed going after Cameron thinking there was plenty of time now he does not know how to find him. Of course the pack joins in to find and then rescue the omega wolf. There is danger, surprises and heartache over the cruelty Cameron had suffered at the hands of abusive vampires. We do get our HEA but it is hard won. This author never disappoints and I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

Loved this one!

Lisa Oliver has managed to weave this engaging world of wolf shifters, their fated mates, love unbounded, passionate lovemaking, with action and intrigue along within the family of the Washington pack! We see the members of the Bound and Bonded BDSM club find their fated mates and enjoy lives filled with love and happiness with a healthy dose of dominance and submission involved. I loved reading about this world of paranormals, their rules and their mates! I’m sad to see the series end with the next and final book in the series but I’ll just have to read others written by Lisa Oliver!

I actually really didn't like this series. Every book was a novella. They were very under developed. But as series progressed the stories them selves were just awful. The first couple were ok but by the time we got to the vampire and then the Omega. Books the inconsistencies were just frustrating. Why these strong subs were allowing themselves to be abused n scarred by humans is beyond me? The stories just sucked. The constant abuse to explain it then they are mated n boom fixed. The fact they were novellas, rushed, seemed so farfetched.

The omega earns your loyalty

This author continues to astonish me with the way she can pull your emotions into a story. The omega finds more than love and finally sees his worth. Something we all need to have. A family and to know what we are valued as. Looking forward to the next story and unfortunately the series finale

WOW

In this book Lisa Oliver covers sexual abuse in a BDSM scene and slavery to vampires. The last part unbeknown to the sub victim. This young wolf shifter is a very special wolf which also he doesn’t realise about himself.
I really enjoyed reading this book.

This is a little tougher to review than other works for me. While it covers one of my favorite themes (Omega wolves) and it's by an author I generally really like, but I also find her works often walk the line between really fun, fast-paced, and sexy with corny and/or short-shrifted plots and characters, and sometimes the balance swings one way (enjoy the escapist sizzle) or the other (disappointed by simplistic conflict/character/relationship resolutions).

I much prefer the author's other BDSM M/M wolf series (the Cloverleah Pack) which is basically set in the same universe. However, I was excited to read about an Omega in this Bound and Bonded series, but I found the results to still be a little uneven, or at least not quite as compelling as I have found some of her other sexy/BDSM/wolf shifter escapist reads.

Overall, fans of this author, and especially the Bound and Bonded series, should enjoy this book, especially if they like an occasional Omega story in amongst the general focus on very strong and in-control hot Alpha/Dominant wolves. While some of the plot and setting twists were nicely fresh for an "Omega-in-distress" setting, the focus of the work was his true/fated-mate dominant who had semi-abandoned the weaker wolf years before. Watching Roger work through his issues was interesting, touching on plenty of issues, although not extremely deep (so not as compelling as it could have been). To be fair, the strength of this author usually isn't the great detail of slowly evolving and challenging character and relationship angst, but rather presenting a decent premise of a "fated mate" relationship conflict, following with several twists and turns, but each eventually each obstacle worked through somewhat quickly.

In other words, this author presents decent character, relationship, and setting issues but generally tackles them relatively efficiently and sometimes a bit perfunctorily, and always includes some nice explicit sizzle. Her stories are best for those looking for some escapist, heated reads that combine simple but intriguing, character, setting, and plot and plenty of male/male sizzle, but nothing overly compelling.

This work fits that mold fairly well, making it a 2.5 to 3.0 star read in terms of quality and and 3.5 to 4 star read in terms of just escapist enjoyment and reading pleasure. So overall, I'm giving it a 3.5 star rating (because I often enjoy these types of works, including this one) rounded up because Omega wolves - and a sprinkling of vampire themes in a wolf shifter story- are among my favorite themes.

My biggest criticism would center on the Omega's recovery from horrendous abuse. The author is careful to have the newly mated Alpha/Dominant to be caring, considerate, and backing way off typical Master/service (or Dominant/submissive) etiquette as the Omega is not in need of harsh domination - quite the opposite. There are hints that D/s activities outside of those that mimic the worst abuse previously meted out on the Omega would be pursued. (In other words, things like extreme pain, harsh verbal and physical Domination and humiliation, blood play, etc., would be avoided, but other D/s activities were likely to be pursued.) Again, the author was careful to give plenty of power to the abused submissive to help shape their future play, but the discussion of it while he was basically in immediate recovery from horrendous abuse just set my teeth on edge a bit.

(Again, like others in the series, this is a relatively quick and escapist jaunt into wolf shifter culture where BDSM is keenly integrated their culture. Therefore, I'm not expecting - nor am I really strongly criticizing - the lack of depth and nuance with which some character and BDSM issues are handled. Overall, the author does a nice job at touching on important safety and relationship concepts in BDSM that are brief but fit nicely into short, escapist sexy works involving the topic. However, even though the author took great pains to have Roger be an extremely caring and understanding dominant wolf who rescued his abused Omega mate, my honest reaction to some of the BDSM discussion at the end was both *too soon* and whether the Omega would be interested in that type of play at all given what he had been through. Just my honest $0.02. This should not detract from how, overall, the author handles BDSM tactfully, especially for a setting where extreme-tough and resilient supernatural wolf-shifting men enjoy rough physical play with each other.)

4.5 Heart Review by Vicki

WOO-FREAKING-HOO! This book made me so happy!

I love a shifter story, I love a shifter story with a big wolf and a little wolf, I love a shifter story with a big wolf and a little wolf where the little wolf has been abused or injured. I love a story with a big wolf and a little damaged wolf, where the big wolf heals the little wolf with his magic sex and love….

So this was right up my alley. I have read the other books in this series, I’ve liked them but have had issues with the poor editing.

I am very happy to say I LOVED THIS BOOK! The plot was exactly what I love in a shifter book. Big werewolf Roger, an enforcer for the Washington pack, finally decides to look for his mate. He met him ten years ago, but his mate was a 12 year old boy and Roger took off, giving Cameron a chance to grow up and experience life. Unfortunately Roger can’t find anything about Cam, and he’s understandably concerned. Pearson, the Alpha of the pack finds Roger in a funk, gets the story out of him, and calls in reinforcements. The men we have met in the previous books all step up to help Roger find Cam. Which they do, but he’s being held in a BDSM club by a human in New York. A plan is developed and off they all go to rescue Cam.

Cam is one fucked up man. When he first shifted at 15, it was apparent that he was an Omega wolf, a male, gay Omega wolf. So his Alpha raped him, beat the shit out of him, and dumped him at the edge of their pack lands. He made it to New York, lived on the streets, was rescued by a nasty piece of work, and has been abused and used ever since. He shifted one time at 15, and hasn’t since. He’s now 22. He’s been beaten so many times he has scars on his back, and a high pain tolerance. He’s scared and alone. Until he is rescued by a bunch of wolves, then he’s even more scared. Wolves have only done bad things to him.

So Roger finally gets ahold of Cameron, and the healing starts. And this is when my love for this book kicked in. A damaged, submissive, Omega shifter? Love it! I loved Roger’s careful handling of Cameron. He’s so gentle and sweet, but also strong. He defends Cam when others in the pack look down on him, not understanding his situation. He treats him so gently, feeding him, cleaning him, walking him through his first real shift… it all just melted my heart! I loved the plot, I loved Cameron and Roger, it was nearly perfect. My only issue with the plot is Roger falls for the dumbest, most obvious thing ever. I did not buy it at all. I like what this thing lead to, a nice bit of drama, but there is a thing that happens that had me rolling my eyes.

Let’s talk about the writing quality. 95% better than anything I have read from this author before! I’ve liked Lisa Oliver’s other books, but they have mostly been 3.5 heart ratings for me, due to the poor editing, and the use of non-American words and phrases. This book was soooooo much better! Seriously better. Still a typo here and there, the big one was a misuse of you’re in place of your, but I can totally look past that. I am so happy with this one! The plot was great, the writing was great, the editing was almost great, I loved the characters, the sex was sweet and hot, it was just an excellent story!

If you have read the others in this series, I can’t wait for you to read this one. It is so great. If you haven’t, you could probably read this one as a standalone. The characters from the previous books are in it, but I don’t think you’ll miss huge amounts by not knowing their stories. I would read them, I liked them just fine, but be prepared for some issues. This one did not have any of those issues though, it was so good!

Yeah! Can’t wait for the next one!

Cameron was kicked out of his pack because it was revealed during his first shift that he was an omega wolf. Being taken in by a vampire named Master Donoghue he mistakenly thinks he’s safe. Roger met his mate Cameron years earlier but couldn’t claim him because he was still to young. Roger has decided it’s time to be with Cameron but is surprised to learn he is being held captive by a vampire. Cameron is then rescued by Roger from the torture inflicted by Master Donoghue and his friends. Cameron knows he’s safe but he still finds himself wary after years with Master Donoghue’s punishments. They don’t have it easy with a jealous submissive wanting Roger and Master Donoghue wanting Cameron back no matter what.

Spoilers/Thoughts: I loved how protective Roger was and didn’t tolerate anyone insulting Cameron. Getting to see Cameron grow from jumping at everything to confronting Master Donoghue was nice. I wouldn’t change a thing it had a combination of romance and action. Giving me a satisfied HEA I would totally recommend this if your looking for a protective Alpha and strong Omega.

Each book keeps getting better and better! So far, NMOM is my favorite of the Bound and Bonded series. I liked Roger and his protective ways and I fell in love with Cam immediately. As an Omega wolf, Cam should have been treated with the utmost respect, but unfortunately as a male Omega, in a homophobic pack, that wasn’t the case for poor Cam and the first few chapters broke my heart. Once Roger rescues Cam though I was bombarded with feelings of joy and love between the two characters. I felt as if I had my own mind link with the couple throughout the entire book, and the shifting? All of the yes’s! I wish I had my own Omega wolf. Needless to say this was a definite five delectable stars from me!

This is book 5 in the Bound and Bonded series. Rodger was searching for his mate whom he had not seen in years. Cam was needing somewhere to go when he was banished by his extremely abusive Alpha, he also discovered he was an Omega. Those sound like the makings of a strained relationship. There was lots of action, guilt, betrayal, angst, jealousy, relationship building and romance. This pack is captivating and the interactions of all the characters will keep you reading and on edge awaiting the next book. Lisa Oliver writes great relationships, they don't always go the way you think they should or expect, but the tales are always satisfying.

Another great story!

I love this series! And this one as well. Roger and Cam finally together, although not without angst and drama. Can kicked out of his pack for being an Omega, has been on his own for six years. Roger thought his mate was in his home pack being taken care of. When he finds out that isn't the case, the pack go on a rescue mission to bring Cam back to Roger. Their road to happy is fraught with evil Vampires, jealous twinks and Cam's own insecurities before they can have the life they want. Well written, great characters, I love the Washington Pack and all the pack members!!

Another great addition to an amazing series

This is another great addition to an amazing M/M paranormal romance series! A great blend of romance, drama, humor, action and suspense. Cam is a gay Omega who had a very hard life...kicked out of his pack, homeless then turned into a slave to a sadistic master. Roger has known he has a mate in Cam but chose to leave him because of his young age and when he decides to claim him, he finds out that Cam is no longer part of a pack and he has no idea where to find him. Building a relationship will take a lot of work and patience. Well-written and a great storyline.

Roger a Pack enforcer for Washington Pack and His Omega Wolf Mate Cameron. Omega wolves are treasured, but Poor Cameron wasn't treasured by the pack he was born in. Thrown out of the pack before his 16th birthday for being a Male Omega. Roger had meet Cameron when cam was 12 and Roger 48. Roger leaves him in the pack thinking he will be safe and well looked after. After 10 years he searches for Cam and finds him in a BDSM club not being well looked after and suffering. Good story. Well written. All great characters throughout the Bound and Bonded series.

No Mate Of Mine
By Lisa Oliver

Roger found his mate years ago, but he was only 12 years old at the time. When his wolf decides he's done waiting for his mate Roger finds instead of being safe with his pack he was banished for being gay and is nowhere to be found. Only with the help of his friends do they find him. Cameron has had a horrible life, but when Roger finds him he realizes things can only get better.

I love Roger and Cameron as a couple despite the horrible experiences Cam went through. The story was engaging and definitely on my reread list.

Loved it!!

I was so pleased when the book came out. It was interesting to read the struggle that the Alpha was dealing with and to read the struggle that the Omega dealt with. Yes, they are two sides of t he same coin. I can not wait for all of the rest of the books in all of the series including the book with your son.
