when Time stood still

Rate this book
Our lives are spent watching the clock.
We go to sleep by it.
Wake up to it. Rely on it.
Race it.
It's easy to forget that we're only given so much.
We ignore it because we're convinced we'll always have more.
I am proof that we aren't promised anything.
The clock owes us nothing.
I know this because not only was Time my name, I wasn't given enough of it.
Sure I had challenges but I vowed to make the most of it, of my young life.
My limitations wouldn't hold me back.
Time was on my side.
Then I was told otherwise.
Now the clock was working against me.
I would face this disease alone.
Then he walked in and changed everything.
He gave me a reason to fight.
He helped me prepare.
Like others before me, when time slowed I wasn't ready.
I begged for more.
But the clock, it stopped for no one.
On the day my world went black, I refused to take him with me.
Only he didn't listen.

I was a doctor.
A bringer of bad news.
I read the chart.
She was fucked.
My hands, they were tied.
I was a doctor who could not heal what was beyond that door.
I had no hope to offer her.
But I wanted this over with.
The sooner the better.
I walked in, looked up and saw color.
Not one.
All of them.
They surrounded her.
She was a patient.
You did not cross that line.
I would not cross that line.
I should have kept my eyes closed.
Life was easier when you didn't see.
But they were open now.
They saw her.
They saw everything.
Suddenly invisible lines ceased to matter.
For me, Time mattered.
How far would you go to make sure the one you loved had enough of it?
Would you challenge the clock?
Help them prepare?
Could you watch them suffer?
Could you accept a life without them in it?
Or, would you follow them into the darkness?

I did.

This is our story.

It’s definitely one of the greatest book I’ve ever read.
Oh boy, Time and Drum are one of my favorite couple.
Don’t forget the As*hole Dad! He’s my second favorite hero who helped them find each other when they lost their ways.
I adored Drum’s wows written below:
“Wherever you go, I’ll be there, whatever you face, I will face. When you fall, I will catch you. When you cry, I will comfort you. I promise you to be your navigator, your compass, you will never be lost. Through the difficult and easy, my eyes are your eyes. You will never be without sight.”
I know it looks like heart wrenching story as you read the synopsis about the young man who loses her sight but it’s not! When you finish the book, you feel more hopeful and ready to fight against the obstacles, you feel more strong and you start to believe the power of love, compassion and trust.

Such a beautiful and poignant story!!!

God, I cried for the whole book, even in the epilogue (there is a HEA, now worries!).

Ms. Adkins, what did you do to me?!?
So touching, so heartbreaking and at the same time so beautiful!

It may started as OTT insta, but it turned out to be very deep and tender book.

We’re going to see the world together. You’ll be my eyes now and I’ll be your eyes later.

I loved it.
Strong and powerful passages. This author’s writing is probably not for everyone; I learned to enjoy it.
A perfect mix of humor (sometimes odd, sometimes odder *lol*), sweet moments, big love and passion, angst and fear, faith and love, friendship and love, and family.

Despite I cried my eyes out, I still had a big smile on my face after I finished this book.
I can’t even write a long review, the quotes make me cry again.
I leave it with the last lines of the story.

The world was mine for the taking, until it disappeared, or so I thought.

The day the world lost color, was a hard one.

But as it turns out, I had to lose something.

I lost my sight but gained so much more.

Like Drum said, I wasn’t one color, I was all of them.

I no longer mourn my vision because I see it all through him.

I see.

***** 5 "Color of Life" Stars *****

 photo TIME_zpsqrjn50uw.jpg

I don't want to give much away on this book because this book is so beautiful and heart wrenching.

What would you do if the person you loved is losing their eyesight? Would you love them no matter what and help them no matter what? Would you be able to understand their loss or help them understand the loss you are feeling watching your love suffer such a tragedy?

This is the story of Time and Drum. Drum is Time's doctor and he has bad news for Time. Being a doctor, he is crushed in knowing he can't help this woman. He should be able to but Time's eyes are in God's hands. He can't do anything about it, except fall in love with her. A love so amazing to read. Where live and love is not always butterflies and a huge bank account making things better.

"I knew what my life had been missing....color. She was color, not just one, but all of them."

Their story will move you to tears, laughter and annoyance several times. KS Adkins you nailed this story perfectly and once again I found a book where the epilogue was just as amazing as the entire story.

5 beautiful, heart-melting stars!

I love KS Adkins and her badass writing. She’s the ultimate queen of kick-ass romance, and a welcoming breath of fresh air in the book galaxy. Seriously. If you still haven’t read any of her books, then you don’t know what you’re missing. Detroit After Dark (#1-4), Motown Down (#1-4), 8 Mile & Rion, Convincing Bet and Mercy F*ck. She writes from her heart and soul, no superficial shit, bypassing the surface and going straight for the essential. It’s rough, gritty, hilarious, hot, sexy, raw, just perfect. She’s an amazing storyteller and one of my cherished one-click authors.

When Time Stood Still took me by surprise, in a really, really good way. It is not your usual KS Adkins book, because it's so far from what she usually writes, yet there are similarities that let you know it is KS Adkins: Detroit Rock City, a quick-witted mouthy badass pretty heroine and a big broad hot sexy handsome hero, both partners in crime; a crew of friends, mix of vets, retirees and hipsters.

I.
LOVED.
IT.

5% in the book and I couldn’t stop laughing out loud! Jesus, I love the way KS Adkins writes about serious matters in a totally hilarious way. Then BAM, I never saw it coming, the god damned humbling story. I started crying, big fat tears pouring out of my eyes.
« We’re going to see the world together. You’ll be my eyes now and I’ll be your eyes later. »

20% in the book and I couldn’t not fall in love with her characters. The delicious banter between Time and Drum, Time and Drum’s dad, Drum and his dad. Totally hilarious. Cracking jokes one minute and drowning in despair the other.
« I was losing my sight but the only thing my vagina was losing was patience. »

Time and Drum’s story was absolutely beautiful. Sad. Emotional. Hopeful.

And.
Unputdownable.

Favorite excerpt #1:

« So much white, » she says with a sad smile. « The thing about white is it’s a base, a canvass to add color to. The trick is to find the tones that compliment your surroundings. When I see white walls like this, I want to grab my paints and tell a story. There’s no story here, it’s depressing. »
Right then and there when she spoke, I knew what my life had been missing… color.
She was color, not just one but, all of them.
Standing up she extends her hand and in a clear voice introduces herself. « Hi, I’m Time Taylor and you are? » taking her hand was as far as I was able to get. She was so pretty, so thin and so… bright. Leaning into me, she squints at the stitching on my lab coat and continues, « Dr. D. Green, » then lets out a laugh, « My favorite color. »

Favorite except #2:

« I have to say, I’m not sure what to think of you right now. »
« Funny, » he says reaching for the parmesan. « For once I’m not thinking and I like how it feels. I like how being near you feels. Now shut up and hand me the strainer. »
Sticking my arm out, he takes it and pours the noodles in. « Hang on, did you tell me to shut up? »
« The look on your face says kick him out, but your body wants sex on the counter. Quit thinking so hard and help me finish dinner. We’ll only break in the table if you ask nicely. »
After the shock wore off I started to laugh. When he winked at me, I laughed even louder.

“…you don’t need sight to see.”

Kelly is by far one of my favorite authors. I didn't think she couldn't possibly shred my heart and stir up my emotions any more than she did with Convincing Bet, but she somehow managed to do it.

when Time stood still is simply a beautiful and heart wrenching story. This book will have you searching for the color in your world. It will have you thinking about what's really important in life and realize how much we take for granted. You will appreciate the simple things because the simple things in life are more precious than you think.

But I do have to say that while this has very unique story line and I really enjoyed it, I’m a bit disappointed at the same time. The story at times was simply told and straightforward. I wanted more depth. And, I wish that the attraction between Time and Drum had developed more slowly and was drawn out more.

I did quite a bit of this:

So make sure to grab a bunch of these:

Drum... Sigh & Time.. Heart melting!

Five star! Definitely a Must read!!!

This book has me seeing life in a whole new light!

KS took something that had such an ugliness to it and made it so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.

This is not your usual KS book, it's so far from what she writes, yet a similarity that lets you know it's our KS. She rocked this book from beginning to end I was engrossed.

If you're looking for a book that will absorb into your soul this is a definite must read

The blindness is inevitable but guess what,so are we...

What a amazing story. I really fell in love with this story and I couldn't stop reading. This is story of woman called Time and her journey when everything changed. Time is loosing her eyesight and we get to see what she's going through. Luckily she will meet Drum who will help her. They fell in love pretty quickly but it fit to this story and it didn't feel too much. Ending was beautiful. This is K.S. Adkins' best book so far.

When Time stood still begins when Time finally admitted to herself that she needed to go tot he doctor for her problem. She knew she didn't have much Time left and wanted to make the most of it. At the doctors office, she ends up meeting her doctor, Drum, and they instantly have a strange connection to each other than neither one could ever imagine would happen. But it did.

And now Time will do everything she can to enjoy what she has left, and Drum will do everything he can to make his woman happy for as long as he can.

These two have a lot to work on, but in the end it may be wroth it after all.

This book blew me away with its magnificence. It was utterly breathtaking, refreshing, intriguing, and totally devastating as well.

I adored the hero and heroine in this story. Both were very strong, and did everything they could to make their lives together better, but sometimes it wasn't it, actually that's an understatement. But both of them prevailed and made it through to the end.

This story had romance, but it wasn't just about that it was more than that. It's not your typical boy-meets-girl-fall-in-love type of story. It was MORE than that. We read about them falling, but then we have to watch them survive together.

This is probably one my favorite books ever now, and I'm super thankful to the author for creating this story.

I am sorry.
But I just can’t read this book.
It’s sad.
Vision loss.
No
I’m coward.
I’m not strong enough to read books about health problems.

From what I read this book is very beautiful. The hero is a dream come true.
I hope others enjoy this book.

*Vision problem is something too close to home. Lots of triggers and depression.
Sorry.*

5 Colorful Stars!

Not your average KS Adkins style but kicks ass in a whole new way.

This is all you need to know. This is a fast paced romance but for good reason (and it totally works), when you're running out of time...why waste it?

This book really made me feel, made me think, and made me embrace life with a whole new outlook. Life is short, we take so many things for granted, so why don't we make the most of it while we still have time!?!?!

Apart from the ridiculous names of the main characters (Time and Drum) this was a pretty good book but it wasn't over the top great either.

I went into this thinking it would be depressing considering the premise but the turn it took was suprisingly pleasant.

Would have icked a bit closer to a five star if the relationship between Time and Drum was more gradual.

Also was genuinely suprised to see the multiple time skip thing work.

One things this book missed was how dating/marrying a patient had no impact on Drum's career.

This book was so heart warming. The romance was really fast but then to watch them as a married couple, dealing with Times issues and being their for each other was amazing. I loved the banter, the romance was really Beautiful and inspirational. There’s so much that I could say, but the easiest thing to say it that it was an extremely beautiful heartwarming book. I have to say; the epilogue was one of the best ones I’ve read in a while. 4 Stars #2OCCJD

When you look, but don't see.

I never thought I would love a book about a tragedy occurring to a character, but therein lies the story. Is it a tragedy or a stepping stone in life's journey. I won't give anything away but I adored this book and K.S. Adkins knows how to tell a tale, you fall in love with her people. Drum and Time's story is glorious and fanbloodytastic. Read it.

This was my first book by K.S. Adkins. I picked it up and couldnt put it down! What an emotional rollercoaster I just rode. This book was very well written, flowed perfectly, not once having to back track to figure out what just happened. What a great love story showing that even though we have hurdles to jump over...Love can still happen if you find the right match! Thank you K.S. Adkins for a very well written, highly recommendable book!

Every book I read from this author gets better and better. But this one is my favorite. The relationship between everyone gripped me and never let go..I loved every word of this story. The visions painted within the pages evoked emotions...told their own story...and connected me to all the characters portrayed in a way that held me captive. LOVED

Super cool beans

I like knowing the real struggles of both people in the relationship, so it's very eye opening for me to finally get that. I completely enjoyed this entire read. For all those who know someone who has any type of disability, I think this book will help heal your worries.
