I crouched in the tree, breathing heavily and watching the man below me. “Tristen,” he sang. “I know you’re here somewhere. It won’t take me long to find you.” He climbed around some large rocks, looking in crevices like I’d managed to shrink myself. “I don’t know why you bother running,” he said. “Don’t you know that we’ll kill you eventually?” I breathed in sharply. Then he was below my tree and he looked up, straight into my eyes. I felt my hold on the branch slip and I gripped it tighter, clinging onto it for my dear life. “Do you know why I’m going to kill you, Tristen?” I shook my head. “Not because it’s my task or because they want me to kill you. No, I want to kill you, boy. And you know why?” I could only stare at him as he taunted me; I was frozen in fear. “I’m going to kill you because your dad is the reason I’m an orphan.”
Now that Tristen knows he’s the Last Seeker, his mission is clear: to stop the Tingui from killing important people in the past. However, everything else in his life isn’t so straightforward. His best friend is suddenly acting mysterious and winning his true love’s heart isn’t easy. When Tristen begins having strange dreams again, an old enemy arises to threaten Tristen again. Then Tristen and his friends travel to Nineteenth Century Maryland and they’re horrified to find that they’ve appeared in the middle a great race war. There, Tristen is thrust into a world of spies and intrigue to find the Tingui. Everyone is a suspect and trusting the wrong person could kill one of the greatest Presidents that’s ever lived. Tristen must discover the Tingui’s plans in a world where one wrong move could get them all killed.
Why does Tristen feel like his best friend is keeping secrets? How will Tristen figure out who to trust? And ultimately, will he be able to save Abraham Lincoln from dying before the Civil War?
I am the author of the TRISTEN book series. I like to travel, hike, read, paint, be healthy and read boring economic reports. I am the wife to an uber-cool and sexy husband and a mom to two awesome children.
I practice positive inevitability and believe passionately in following your dreams. Even if you don't accomplish everything you want, you can still enjoy the journey.
When I read the first book in this series, I was pulled into a very interesting story with great characters and I absolutely loved the entire premise behind it. This book however, enraptured me; it was compelling and emotions ran higher than ever before (I'm not afraid to admit that I laughed like a lunatic and cried crocodile tears). I congratulate Fleur Camacho on her achievement. There are some minor typos and missing words throughout, but nothing that inhibits understanding. On a whole it's wonderful, though there are a few things I would've liked to see more of. First of all, the "main" villain of the story is very rarely seen, in the beginning he veritably haunts Tristen, but once the story gets going, he seems almost an afterthought till the end. Second, we are introduced to Isolda's family, but only briefly and I'd like to learn more about where she comes from. Tristen and Ailey's backgrounds, that they know of concretely, have been explained thoroughly, but we know very little about Isolda except how she handles things and that she loves Tristan & Ailey. I loved this book very much, and I can't wait to learn more as I continue the series!!
A very special thank you to the wonderful Author who allowed me an advance copy for reading and reviewing purposes.
Tristens adventures continue as the seeker in this sequel. Despite all the adventures he had been on and amazing things he has witnessed, Tristen still has to deal with normal stuff, like trying to ask the girl he likes out and his best friends odd behaviour. I really enjoyed this book. It was great reading about Abraham Lincoln and that era before the war. The author has clearly put in the research. I would definitely recommend this book.
Once again, Tristan, Ailey, and Isolda are thrown into the past to save a significant historical figure's life before they do what they need to do to preserve and/or change history as we know it. Book 1 it was Joan of Arc. This time it's Abraham Lincoln.
This book is a bit more of a drama than the first, and there is a deeper level of hatred in those who oppose and want to kill Lincoln. Tristan still faces his nemesis from book 1, Isolda is still jealous of Ailey, but each woman finds out the reasons of love, jealousy, and competition aren't what they think, and Tristan still has several internal conflicts going on.
The history is well researched. The author could have been very basic and just used information everyone pretty much already knows, but there are several details that stick out as key points that only add another layer to the story.
I particularly liked that all men swore oaths. Tristan asked himself on several occasions "What is it with these people and their oaths?" Well, once upon a time a man's word was his reputation. It actually MEANT something! Not like today where people lie constantly and don't give a crap about their reputation. Sad really...
The plot thickens. Characters full of teenage angst overshadowed by danger and the struggle to understand what has just happened to their lives. The peripheral characters have all the earmarks of an approaching tsunami. Looking forward to more.
